SISTERHOOD OF SWEAT - Motivation, Inspiration, Health, Wealth, Fitness, Authenticity, Confidence and Empowerment

Are you interested in improving your relationship?  Have you been worried about your past trauma? In this episode, I talk with Nischa Heron Phair. She is a somatics researcher, pleasure activist and the author of Fawn: When No Looks Like Yes; a rousing call to celebrate our authentic sexuality and invite more integrity into our bedrooms and pleasure into our lives. A trauma-informed embodiment coach for 14 years, Nischa first began studying the role of fawning and intimacy in 2016 to better understand her own experiences and soon after started sharing her findings and recovery practices with her clients to great acclaim. We discuss the struggles of freezing and fawning. She shares the practice to help set better boundaries in relationships and where we may need boundaries in our lives. This is a deep topic on abuse, trauma, and how to please yourself instead of everyone else. Questions I asked: How's the weather where you are? Can you tell us about yourself and your book? Can you tell us what fawning is? How can we focus on pleasing ourselves? How can we get people to stop freezing in situations? How can we build firmer boundaries with people? Why do people need to learn to say no? Why is it important to switch from people-pleasing to pleasing ourselves? What would you like to leave with people today? Where can people find you and get your book? Topics Discussed: Freezing & Fawning. Trauma response. Domestic violence. People Pleasing Relationships. Abuse. Quotes from the show: “The book emerges after I got out of my abusive marriage.” @nischaphair @SisterhoodSweat “I was just doing whatever I needed to, in order to satisfy him.” @nischaphair @SisterhoodSweat “I didn't know how to say NO to him.” @nischaphair @SisterhoodSweat How you can stay in touch with Nischa: Website Facebook Instagram Get her book   How you can stay in touch with Linda: Website Facebook Twitter Instagram Pinterest YouTube SoundCloud   "Proud Sponsors of the Sisterhood of S.W.E.A.T"   Essential Formulas   My daily energy stems from mushrooms... mushroom coffee that is! KEY TAKEAWAYS Fawning is a relatively new term, and is used to describe a stress response - a thing we do in order to feel comfortable and safe that seeks to limit the amount of conflict or harm we may experience. The health of our relationships is inextricably linked to our ability to become the person we were meant to be when we arrived on the planet. Women often feel the need to go along with something they might not feel comfortable with in order to make a situation acceptable. This can often become apparent in a sexual senario. TRIGGER WARNING - We discuss abuse and trauma in this episode, so if that content isn't for you, please exercise your discretion with this episode.   This might have been one of the most important conversations I've had about healing your trauma yet. Learn about fawning as a trauma response.  Why it's likely that you have done this, or might still be; and why it's important to acknowledge the behaviour and stop it.   This is a podcast for anyone who finds themselves dating “down” or who feel unworthy of love - wholly.  ** “Have self-compassion and self trust for all of those voices that are untrue because they are the voices of your wounded child or the wounded part that was injured by abuse. It could be physical, emotional, sexual and even substance abuse.” -Nischa Phair  Nischa Phair is an author, researcher, trauma informed sex educator and the founder of  SomaBody Trauma Informed Pleasure Work®.  She has been a trauma-informed teacher, facilitator and  embodiment coach for 14 years working with thousands  of clients in that time.  Nischa initially began studying the connections  between fawning and sex in 2016 to better understand  her own experiences. She now works almost exclusively  with female survivors and those recovering from toxic  relationships to help them address fawning during  intimacy and heal their relationships to pleasure.  “Fawn: When No Looks Like Yes” is the first book to  ever be written about fawning in the context of sex  and consent. In addition to sounding the alarm, Phair  attempts to answer the million-dollar question: “how  can sex and intimacy thrive in a post-#metoo, post pandemic reality?” Part exposé, part self-study guide,  part memoir, “Fawn” is a rousing call to celebrate our  authentic sexuality and to invite more intention and  integrity into our sex lives and relationships, whether  they be casual or long term.  Connect with Nischa Phair: https://www.nischaphair.com/ https://www.instagram.com/nischaphair/   Grab your copy of Nischa Phair's book Fawn: When No Looks Like Yes here: https://www.nischaphair.com/fawn-book We love our collabs!  Check this out! https://www.awakeningthewisewoman.com/a/2147504394/p9ZFkwiZ   Awakening The Wise Woman: https://www.awakeningthewisewoman.com/she-awakens   Rachel Shumway - How to Bad-Ass It By Your Boundaries Starter Kit: https://www.thebadassacademy.com/ Dr. Mikolaj Raszek (Merogenomics Inc.).: https://merogenomics.ca/ https://www.youtube.com/c/Merogenomics **   “21 years ago I survived a sexual assault from my boyfriend.  14 years ago I decided not to kill myself.  11 years ago I was left with 350 k worth of bad debt.  9 years ago I walked away rather than endure sexual coercion and harassment from my boss. 7 years ago I welcomed my beautiful daughter into the world.  5 years ago I left my marriage to fall in love with myself. 3 years ago I allowed myself to fully heal and reconnect with my feminine;  2 years ago I rebuilt my life, moved into my own tiny home and found my Lifetime Love.  Last year, I started my podcast and welcomed my baby boy earth side." Candice is a mom, podcaster, social marketer and essentialist who loves to engage in interesting conversations with other influencers and entrepreneurs.  Her favourite conversations are the ones that take courage to engage in.  (Check out her podcast, Create the Ripple Podcast)   She has learned the power of saying no, listening to your own heart and speaks openly about subtle abuse as it occurs in relationships - personally and professionally.   She's become a voice for listening to your own truth and speaking it clearly, powerfully - at home, at work and in your life.  She spends her time living - in a tiny home (250 sq ft), traveling, speaking and sharing candidly with others how to live life after betrayal, to trust themselves, to speak up for themselves and set powerful boundaries.    After a narcissistic partner cheated on her with multiple women, left her (and the country!) With over 350 thousand dollars worth of bad debt, Candice was forced to rebuild her life, her credit and her trust in herself. Coming out of this, she encountered her own “Me Too” moment dealing with sexual coercion and harassment in her professional life; saying no resulted in her being the target of gossip that tarnished her reputation.    Deeply affected by the gaslighting and the experiences, she adopted a minimalist lifestyle, leaned on her personal network and practiced radical personal forgiveness, acceptance and responsibility.  The journey was not without its impact and Candice shares powerfully about dealing with anxiety, depression, shame and learning to let go.   When grief rocked her world a little less than 2 years ago, Candice knew it was time to stop her life, hit the pause button and finally do the deep work to heal her heart, self and mindset.  Emerging from this place, Candice has begun to embrace her fierce and receptive feminine nature.  The journey to be and embrace all the parts of herself has led her to the place to start her wildly successful Create the Ripple Podcast; Trust the Niggle and Tell the Truth - where she features other amazing guests who are not afraid to do the hard work of personal development, listen to their own minds/heart and then speak up and out for those things that matter; to themselves and to make a difference in the world.   Candice loves her essentialist lifestyle for the beauty and freedom it offers her.  She can never resist the urge to take off her boots to walk barefoot into a clear mountain lake or stream. When she is not connecting or writing, she can be found disappearing into the backcountry trails of Canada with her life-love Mark and losing herself exploring waterfalls and mountain trails. She is a quiet introvert who adores eating clean foods and reading a great book.     For Website and Social Links: https://candicesmiley.carrd.co/       DISCLOSURE: I USE MY WEBSITE  AND SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS TO CREATE THE INCOME THAT SUPPORTS MY LIFESTYLE. You've probably heard of fight, flight, or freeze, but did you know that fawning (going out of your way to please someone) is also a trauma response? While fawning is a common stress response for many women, it's especially prevalent after infidelity or betrayal. Learn how to identify, manage, and stop fawning behaviors so you can create and hold better, more authentic boundaries. Top take-a-ways: Why so many women claim the “don't like sex,” and how to reclaim and reorient to pleasure by understanding the difference between the “stress management mode” and the “pleasure production mode.” Reveling in the pride of surviving your trauma and releasing shame when you wake up one day and wonder, “How did this happen?” by understanding that fawning in a biological stress response (not an emotional defect) that it is trained into us as women, as our instincts are slowly trained out. The reasons why we can't see red flags in relationships until it's too late, and why we explain away unhealthy, toxic masculinity and behaviors. Top tip! The power of the “Somatic Pause” (which is a body-full, instead of mindful break) and how to incorporate little moments of pleasure throughout the day. How pleasure helps us see the truth of who we are and what we need to do to heal ourselves and feel better. In this episode, I invite Nischa Phair back for a deep dive on receiving pleasure, authentic sexuality and how they are related. Nischa tells us about how pleasure “is relational thing” — it is an outward thing that we share. She talks about how authentic sexuality is a commitment to a process — something we might not always practice well, but try our best next time. She also speaks to some other off-topics like “collapsing the vanilla-kink duality,” “tend and befriend” behavior, and how breath and pleasure work together. All of these topics can be found in her book: FAWN: When No Looks Like Yes, available where books are sold. Don't forget to catch Part 1: #49. "Fawn: When No Looks Like Yes" — Her new book on the nervous system, ignoring red flags, and fawning — where we unpack the definition of fawning. How our nervous system is informed by the outside world. What happens in our body when we fawn — a shut down below the diaphragm. She tells us how this might be the reason women are without libido and disconnected from their pleasure and erotic energy. Nischa tells us her story and direct experiences of fawning. Coming from an abusive relationship, Nischa found herself into understanding the many aspects of what a healthy relationship is all about. When I say healthy, that includes also the sexual aspect of it. Sexual dysfunction is prominent in our society. Erectile issues with men and women unable to orgasm because of emotional tension blurring their minds 24/7. It is becoming harder for people to perform in bed because of social media sharing how men or women should look like physically. Now with the addition of pornography, men idealize women to look like the women they see on the sites, expecting perfection from their significant other. This constant idealization creates a disconnect between couples, where women feel m ore insecure about themselves and men unable to perform in the bedroom. This vicious cycle keeps on turning and turning with no end in sight. Nischa Phair provides interesting insight on how she helps her clients overcome these feelings of insecurities through different strategies that most can adopt and feel more connected with their partners. Most important strategy to start experiencing changes is to work on your addiction and seek the help of a therapist to address the problems you face daily. This in itself will allow breaking the link so that vicious cycle can be interrupted. If you start with this, you can experience incredible changes in your life and your relationship --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/happinessjourney/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/happinessjourney/support

Nischa is passionate about helping people understand the role of the nervous system health in sex and pleasure with the view to make sex safer and more enjoyable for all, especially for survivors and women. What We Discuss In This Episode: Nischa Phair shares with us how we, as women, can enjoy sensuality not just through the shared intimacy of sex, but even when it comes to enjoying all our senses and pleasures that will lead us to a healthier, more confident, and happier life. She talks a little about how she helps women after severe trauma, as well as that reconnection to ourselves and to others. As women, we are sensual and emotional beings, and Nischa shares how we can enjoy a healthier sense of well-being just by using some simple techniques that involve every  part of our being.
