Today, Matt discusses the significance of building coaching cultures with sales leader Derek Bates, VP of Northeast Sales at Alteryx. They delve into the myths of sales coaching, the importance of efficiency and work-life balance, and Derek's unique 3-P (People, Process, Performance) framework. Derek shares insights from his extensive career at Oracle and how he has applied those experiences at Alteryx. Additionally, they touch on personal stories, including Derek's college baseball coach's influence, the role of leadership in retaining talent, and strategies for effective time management.Takeaways:Recognize that money isn't the only motivator. Salespeople are complex, and good leaders need to understand what truly drives their team members beyond just their compensation.Encourage discipline and efficiency to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Overworking should not be glorified; find ways to help your team manage their time effectively.Tailor your coaching approach to the individual needs of each team member. Every person is different; understanding their unique triggers and motivational factors will help you coach them more effectively.Hire and build teams with a diversity of thought. Different perspectives can lead to innovative solutions and a more dynamic team environment.Teach and practice strong time-management skills. Block off dedicated time for key activities like prospecting to maintain a steady pipeline and avoid the rollercoaster effect in performance.Develop and refine processes that support your team but allow their creativity to shine with customers. A good process should eliminate internal inefficiencies.Teach your team to look at the bigger picture in their deals and accounts. Hitting short-term targets is important, but building sustainable long-term relationships with clients is essential.Quote of the Show:“Not everybody works like you, otherwise they would be in your role.” - Derek BatesLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derek-bates-a14a7720/ Website: https://www.alteryx.com/ Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Yb1wPzUxyrfR0Dx35ym1A Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-build-a-coaching-culture/id1699901434 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NvYWNoMnNjYWxlLWhvdy1tb2Rlcm4tbGVhZGVycy1idWlsZC1hLWNvYWNoaW5nLWN1bHR1cmU Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/fd188af6-7c17-4b2e-a0b2-196ecd6fdf77 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-5419703 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Coach2Scale CoachEm™ is the first Coaching Execution Platform that integrates deep learning technology to proactively analyze patterns, highlight the "why" behind the data with root causes, and identify the actions that will ultimately improve business results going forward.  These practical coaching recommendations for managers will help their teams drive more deals, bigger deals, faster deals and loyal customers. 6.11.2024 #RolandMartinUnfiltered: GA's Criminal Reform Hurts Poor People, Trump's HBCU Lie, Get Over It! Caitlin Clark Wasn't Picked A non-profit organization, The Bail Project, which helps thousands of incarcerated people get out of jail as they await trial has closed its Atlanta branch because of Georgia's new Georgia law that strictly curtails the freedom to post bail for others.  We'll talk to someone from the Bail Project about this decision.  President Joe Biden took the time to remember civil rights icon Rev. James Lawson.  We'll show you what Biden had to say.  A jury finds the President's son guilty on all charges in his federal gun case. The Justice Department and a Tennessee school agree on steps to prevent race-based harassment targeting Black students. We will, once again, debunk the lie that Trump "saved HBCUs."  Dr. Walter Kimbrough will be here to set the record straight.  And I have a few words about folks bitching and moaning that rookie WNBA player Caitlin Clark did not get chosen to be on the 2024 US Women's Basketball Olympic Team. #BlackStarNetwork advertising partners:Fanbase

What causes overwhelm? We can become overwhelmed by our should-list, comparing ourselves to others, and fear of not being good enough. At a podcast event I attended, I was overwhelmed with business ideas and felt inadequate when talking to experts. In the world of entrepreneurship, it's easy to look around, consume, and compare. Even the smallest task in our businesses seems overwhelming because it takes so much energy.   But is it overwhelm, fear, or self-doubt? After discussing it with my therapist, Jason, I realized that what I actually felt was fear and my inner critic was holding me back. It wasn't OVERWHELM. (MIC DROP). The analogy Jason used was of a mentally disturbed person on the street corner and how we shouldn't engage with our inner critic, but walk on by and let them get smaller and smaller. That inner voice was so loud that I thought it was part of me, but as I separated it I didn't fight. This immediately released some pressure and I felt less overwhelmed.   The lesson I learned was that we need to PAUSE and observe what's going on. For me, I use overwhelm excuse when I get traction in my business. Because being seen in my mind is scary! This causes me to sit back and binge Netflix while saying I don't have time to build a successful business.   How is overwhelm showing up in your life?
