Welcome to Mysteries to Die For.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you in the heart of a mystery. All stories are structured to challenge you to beat the detective to the solution. Jack and I perform these live, front to back, no breaks, no fakes, no retakes. The rules for law and order create the boundaries for civil co-existence and, ideally, the backdrops for individuals, families, and companies to grow and thrive. Breaking these rules puts civil order at risk. And while murder is the Big Daddy of crimes, codified ordinances across municipal divisions, counties, states, and countries show the nearly endless ways there are to create mayhem. This season, we put our detective skills to the test. This is Season 8, Anything but Murder. This is Episode 8, where witness intimidation is the featured crime. This is Ace of Hearts by Margaret S. Hamilton“Ace of Hearts” is Margaret S. Hamilton's third published short story set in New Orleans, a city she knows and loves, from the manicured acres of City Park to the potholed streets of the Lower Garden District. New Orleans is a city defined by food: fried oyster po'boys, Abita beer, beignets, and chicory coffee. A city of haunting jazz melodies and spectacular Mardi Gras parades. A city that survives adversity and thrives, like Calliope Hebert, the main character of this story.DELIBERATIONCallie is on a tight timeline with no room for error. She needs our help if she's going to find the flash drive and save her mother. There are the potential locations for the flash drive:House of Rising Sun Dress sign, outside the door to Mama's apartmentKrewe stiletto heel, in the dining room on the shelvesPin cushion, kept on Mama's bedside tableLipstick tube, given by Mama's sisterBroken flashlight, stored in Mama's bedroom Here are the clues Callie has to work with:Ace downloaded business records from John Readon to a flash drive before he disappeared last SpringMama sold the house and moved the family to the duplex. The furniture is new. Only personal items and Mama's dress business were movedCallie saw Mama shove something into the side of the house when she was hanging up her business signCallie's aunt gave Mama the tube of lipstick when she came to the partyThe pin cushion was in the draw where Callie found the queen of hearts playing cardThe flashlight Callie tried to use when the lights went out didn't turn on and sounded like there was something loose inside. When Callie asked her mother about the things Ace left, she didn't seem to know where the information was. The only thing Ace said was “think about our wedding day.”The Reardon's reported a rumor that the flash drive was hidden in the Krewe stilettos.Where should Callie look for the flash drive? About Witness IntimidationWitness intimidation is as old as crime itself. And it actually is a crime – witness intimidation, witness tampering. From the attorney general of Pennsylvania comes the very recent case of Dushawn Ellis who was facing charges of human trafficking. While in jail, he put out a $20,000 hit on the witness. Ellis approached another inmate of the county prison who knew the witness and used that connection and the bounty to video chat with the witness and personally make the threat. The witness held their ground and Ellis was charged with two counts of felony witness intimidation and one count of obstruction of justice. He was convicted by a jury in February 2024, was sentences to 8 ½ to 22 years. The original human trafficking was ongoing as of that time.

I'm coming to you on the other side of a trip where I had the absolute JOY of facilitating a retreat with my good friend, Kaitlin Cox. This was a rare gift that I didn't know I needed, and goodness, did it fill my cup!In today's episode, I want to talk about coming home: politics, purpose, and the ripple effect. After helping Kaitlin with her retreat and hearing the raw and powerful stories from the women there, I was reminded that every single one of us has gone through ‘something'. We've all experienced some kind of trauma or hardship that isn't visible to the outside world, but there is MAGIC when we come together, and share what's on our hearts!I know this to be the ‘ripple effect', and I've seen it play out in beautiful ways in my own life. I've chosen to take action and heal in ways I never thought possible; this has radiated to incredible women like Kaitlin, and the work that she's doing is radiating to the women in HER circle! It may sound a bit cheesy, but if you want to help people and make the world a better place, it starts with YOU. You heal the world by healing yourself, and you change the world by changing yourself. In this episode, I cover:The inner knowing we have when something isn't ‘quite right', and we're meant to pursue something differentRealizing that every single person is carrying something ‘hard' that the outside world can't seeThe power in what is the ‘ripple effect' + how I've seen this play out in my own lifeWhy making the world a better place actually starts with you and your healingWhy it's beautiful + actually normal to not ‘fit in a box' and fully align with one political partyThe collective necessity towards practicing genuine empathy + why I KNOW that my purpose is rooted in healingUnderstanding that while it's great to evolve, you are already worthy and ‘enough', just as you areBe sure to hit subscribe so you never miss the latest episode!Connect with Emily:Follow on Instagram and FacebookJoin my email listCheck out my websiteConnect with on LinkedInRelated Episodes:Episode 089 | Loss, Healing, and Empowerment with Kaitlin CoxResources and Links:Gather in Growth Sponsorship InquiryBook me as a speaker for your next eventGather in Growth podcast produced by: Jill Carr PodcastingMentioned in this episode:Book me as a keynote speaker, workshop host, or emcee for your next event! As the United States approaches one of the most important elections, many people I know are expressing how the current state of affairs is affecting their work, home life, and overall well-being.With the stress and the chaos, it would be easy to shut down and ask, “Why bother?”This is why it feels especially timely to bring back my long-time friend, Iowa state representative and state house minority leader, Jennifer Konfrst, to the podcast.Whether it's a major election, a looming work deadline, or a personal goal, we all carry heavy responsibilities on top of what's happening in our country. I wanted to talk to Jennifer about how she finds the strength to keep going, even when the victories are hard-won or the losses are break-your-heart big.Jennifer shares her not-so-secret recipe for staying true to her values and community, staying open and seeking support, which helps her avoid falling into despair and hopelessness. Her perspective is a source of hope, motivation, and a call to keep fighting that many of us need right now.Jennifer Konfrst teaches public relations & strategic political communication courses at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. Before joining the Drake journalism faculty in 2013, she worked in public relations for 20 years, most recently at Iowa Public Television. She also serves as an Iowa House of Representatives member, representing the 43rd district since 2019. She is the House minority leader, a position she has held since 2021, and she is the first woman to hold this position in Iowa.Listen to the full episode to hear:What the Iowa Supreme Court ruling on abortion taught Jennifer about showing up even when you're devastated and angryThe self-care that is essential for Jennifer in the face of setbacks and struggles at the State HouseHow Jennifer builds trust in her leadership with her caucus in her role as House Minority LeaderHow consistently highlighting and celebrating even small wins helps keep people motivatedHow her personal healing work has helped Jennifer allow for disagreement and conflict within her caucusThe challenges of trust with voters, representatives across the aisle, and within her partyThe case for getting and staying engaged in politics, especially at the local levelLearn more about Jennifer Konfrst:WebsiteInstagram: @KonfrstForHouseTwitter: @KonfrstForHouseLearn more about Rebecca:rebeccaching.comWork With RebeccaSign up for the weekly Unburdened Leader EmailResources:EP 114: Why Bother? Is it real love - or infatuation? It's the same thing in business! How we identify a healthy love relationship is the same same process we use in business. In a simplistic model, we look are 2 criteria:There is a strong desire to truly be a better person/business and we see the same desire in the other partyThe other party would never do anything to put you in danger, and neither would you.The trust build in this type of relationship is what frees us to give and bring our all - in business and in love.Business, if ANYTHING - is personal.

Are you feeling the need for some community right now? Some levity? Some fun? I have created a Facebook Group for us called Live Abroad and Love It (our first party is in a few days — details below).I have made some incredible friendships through this podcast and I want to meet more of you. This group is for serious travelers. The kind who would pack up and move to a new country for a few months or maybe forever.Whether you are a current or aspiring expat, nomad, and/or location independent entrepreneur, the Live Abroad and Love It Facebook Group is a place for us to connect and inspire each other to live our location independent travel dreams. We can share stories of the new cities in which we’re living. Share online business advice to help other location independent entrepreneurs. Ask logistical questions on how to make a move abroad happen. I’d really love this to be an inclusive place where we can lift each other up and help each other live a more freedom-filled life.I know social media can be annoying and a lot of us are trying to get away from it. But as many of us are still locked down during the pandemic, and a number of you have said your craving some human connection, so I’m going to host some online events — and perhaps even in-person retreats when we can travel again. Join the first online partyThe first online event is this Sunday at 2 p.m. Eastern Time, which is 7 p.m. London Time. We will be doing online vision boards, also known as dream boards. I’ve never done one myself, but they are supposed to be fun and visual ways to set goals for yourself. If you would like to join this virtual party, go to postcardacademy.co/party and I’ll send you the information.

What are some of the mental blocks that stop people from moving to the next level in their land business?Listen in as Mark and a small intimate team dig deep into those common mental blocks that are holding people back in this business.Joining Mark are:Scott BossmanTate LitchfieldScott ToddWhile there could be a number of reasons that stop people from progressing in their land business, the guys are going to talk about the most common reasons today, which are:Believing in yourselfThe one-in-one-out approachThe fear of being too late to the partyThe fear of self-fundingLet's dig into the one-in-one-out approach a little. This is where you buy one, then wait for it to sell before moving on to the next property. Why isn't this a good approach? Here is one example:Tate, who has spent the last three weeks recovering from a car accident talks about why he wasn't worried about the money coming in while he was down because he has that passive income coming in every month... which is something that could not happen with the one-in-one-out approach. It can also lead to burnout!Scott Bossman recently talked to a gentlemen who is fairly new to the business. He has been in it for one year and has done 80 deals, but only 2 were on terms. He is making cash on his deals, then redeploying it into more deals, but none of it is passive and he's completely burned out because he has just created another job for himself. Both of these examples make the on-going argument for Mark, that cash is not king when it comes to building that passive piece and why it's crucial to set the systems up and have a portfolio of notes coming in every month.Listen in as the guys dive deep into all of the reasons listed above and show you that the only thing holding you back from taking you business to the next level is YOU.And be sure to stick around for the after chat... it just may save you a trip to Italy!TIP OF THE WEEKMark: Check out the book, Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life by Nir Eyal. It will help you to get your attention back and have this sort of a deeper work in your workday to get more done, be more productive and just be happier overall and not constantly checking technology and having your attention hijacked by something external.Isn't it time to create passive income so you can work where you want, when you want and with whomever you want?
