Hours after Japanese sensation Yoshinobu Yamamoto agreed to terms on a 12-year, $325 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, longtime national baseball writer Barry Bloom visits the Jack Vita Show to break it all down! Yamamoto, age-25, posted a sub-1.70 ERA in Japan in each of the last three seasons. He is a three-time MVP and three-time pitching Triple Crown winner. The Dodgers are pairing Yamamoto with newly-acquired, two-time American League MVP Shohei Ohtani. Nine months ago, the duo won the World Baseball Classic as members of the Japanese National Team. Now, they will try to make a run at a World Series title, as teammates once again. In less than two weeks, the Dodgers committed over $1 billion to just two players. Barry and Jack discuss the Dodgers' aggressive offseason and assess the potential risks and rewards attached to both free agent signings, in addition to the acquisition and corresponding extension of Tyler Glasnow. Will the Dodgers run away with the National League in 2024, and win their first championship in a full, 162-game season since 1989? Will the Dodgers win a handful of titles in the coming years? How much pressure will the club be under in the upcoming season, coming off their big offseason moves? The San Francisco Giants continue to struggle to land big-time free agents, striking out on Ohtani and Yamamoto. The club did however agree to a six-year, $118 million deal with Korean star Jung Hoo Lee. Elsewhere in the National League West, the San Diego Padres are slashing payroll, dealing Juan Soto, and bidding farewell to free agents Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, Blake Snell and Josh Hader. Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks are building on to their young core which reached the World Series in 2023, re-signing Lourdes Gurriel Jr., trading for Eugenio Suarez and agreeing to a four-year, $80 million deal with Eduardo Rodriguez. The club has also been linked to free agents JD Martinez and Justin Turner. Barry and Jack cover all things NL West (except for the Colorado Rockies)! Barry analyzes the Soto trade from both the Padres' and the New York Yankees' perspectives. He discusses where Soto, Trent Grisham and Alex Verdugo will fit into the Yankees' lineup in 2024. Barry and Jack comment on other free agent signings from around the league, including the moves that the Kansas City Royals have made. Later, Barry shares about his career and his Hall of Fame ballot. Barry used all ten of his votes this year, voting for Adrian Beltre, Todd Helton, Joe Mauer, Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Andy Pettitte, Gary Sheffield, Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Billy Wagner. Barry makes a compelling argument for both Wagner and Pettitte. Wagner is in his ninth year on the ballot and is gaining momentum. Last year, he received 68.1% of the vote. Pettitte, in his sixth year, has been entirely overlooked. He received just 17.0% last year. Now 72 years-old, Barry is entering his 49th season as a Major League Baseball writer. He was the San Diego Padres beat writer for the San Diego Tribune from 1982 to 1998, and has since written for Bloomberg News, MLB.com, Forbes and SportBusiness. He currently is a senior writer at Sportico. You can follow Barry on Twitter (@Boomskie) and check out his work at Sportico!
The New York Yankees are 100 games into the season, and we're wondering, are they a disappointment, or is this what everyone expected? We discuss our biggest disappointments and surprises (some may be surprising, and others not so much). The Yankees hired Andy Pettitte as an advisor for the rest of the season, and he will be with the team when he can be. Is this a good move for the team? What's your ideal outfield? We go through all the guys in the outfield on the current roster and on the 40-man, and Steve goes through the combinations he thinks are ideal right now, with the roster not exactly where everyone expected it to be. Then we preview the second half of the Subway Series and give everyone our bold predictions. This week, the Consig made a call to the neighborhood & got a guy to to speak softly with the boys. THIS IS THE SHOW. Frankie Whispers, the senior gambling and fantasy insider at Sports Illustrated, joins Dave, Carl and Neuby with the Belmont edition of the Cash Considerations Show.Listen as Frankie tells the boys how he went from Brooklyn, NY to Las Vegas sportsbooks. After college at Villanova, Frankie avoided law school and went to work for a soccer team front office. A few corner kicks later,Whispers made the trek to Las Vegas and started making moves. Combining fantasy expertise with sports book savvy, Frankie used his New York street smarts to land a gig with the iconic Sports Illustrated brand. With connections that run deep, Frankie has info and shares the knowledge with all of us, including the Belmont breakdown. Frankie is not a horse whisperer, but you get a tri from a guy who hit both the Derby and the Preakness loud and clear in the interview. Pat’s wins, no wiz and he is all in on the thing #AnybodyButTheNets.Whispers sticks around with the boys to talk sports, gambling and life. First stop is the NBA. The Nuggets & Jazz are in, while the LA teams trail in their series. Before the end of the show, the Lakers are eliminated. Will the Clippers beat the Mavs? Frankie and the boys give you their pick. The Nets face the Bucks in the East, but Neuby has to be consoled about Jo Jo Embid’s knee injury for his Sixers. Dave knows what to do to help and the boys PLAY THE SONG. With everyone feeling better, the boys go from the court to the ice.The Stanley Cup playoffs are the best playoffs, and the “Pulling the Goalie” segment does not disappoint. Dave looked at each series, and Carl and Frankie each took a shift. Boston keeps winning, Marchand keeps scoring and Carl had Neuby play a different song. The hit in Montreal is discussed before the boys touch up and ice this segment. The baseball talk, newly dubbed “Good morning , Good afternoon, Good night,” is all heat. Frankie nails the first pitch right out of the park when Dave asks the boys about the NL West. Neuby is all about the lax, but gives you what he has. The NL East is next, and Frankie makes a case to add another song to the board. The Mets? The Braves? Lastly, it gets all heated when the boys discuss the AL East. A couple brush back pitches are thrown between Boston Carl and NY Frankie, but it’s just “sports hate” and fun talk. Names get brought up like Pettitte & Pedro, but like any baseball brawl, no punches are thrown, and the show goes on.Lastly, the coordinating producer/social media manager/co host Carl H-A-S-C-A-L-L went with a graduation question on the “Carl’s Corner” segment of the show. Tell us your personal, best, pranks you pulled or had done to you. Dave had a few from Penn State days, Neuby had one from high school, Frankie pleaded the fifth rather than incriminate himself, and Carl put shit in an office and then followed orders and left nothing in the office. All jokes aside, Carl nailed the read and kept the show moving. As it always does, The Take a Minute segment closed the show on Cash Considerations. Carl splash dunked people instead of hating, Neuby spoke with passion about without being a jagoff, and Dave had a Dad moment but kept his shit together talking about Big Consig graduating from high school.Sit back, listen in & laugh a bunch to this Belmont Stakes, June episode of the Cash Considerations podcast. Andy Pettitte is one of the most accomplished pitchers in recent baseball memory, playing 18 season — 15 with the New York Yankees and three with the Houston Astros. He won five World Series championships with the Yankees, was a three-time All-Star, led the American League in wins in 1996, and was the 2001 American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player. He is the all-time leader in postseason wins with 19. His No. 46 is retired by the Yankees and he's enshrined in their Monument Park. He shares with Scott how his faith led him through his baseball career and how he had Godly discernment about when to retire and that coming out of retirement to play again was what he needed to do. He talks about what he's been up to since officially retiring following the 2013 season, how much he's enjoyed coaching his sons, and how his walk with Jesus has grown. The past few months have been challenging on Pettitte and his wife Laura, mainly due to the fact that she lost both of her parents within hours of each other due to COVID-19. He and his family were also in a bad car accident that left them injured. "God puts us through trials," he said. "He gives us pain, I believe, so we can use that to help others. That goes back to what you're talking about — serving and trying to figure out what you can do for others. We are in a culture and a world that's so 'promote yourself, think about yourself, whatever you can do to lift yourself up.' That's so far away from what God's Word tells us to do." My guest today is a former big leaguer, Houston Astros Draft Pick in 1999 and proud Long Beach State Dirtbag. Mike is part of the illustrious group of major league players to come out of LB St. He explains his upbringing and how he came to be a pitcher in junior college. Then he goes through the process of becoming a Division 1 pitcher and eventually getting drafted by Houston. He has plenty of great stories for us and really dives deep into his somewhat unlikely rise to making it in the show. Make sure to stick around toward the end for some real insight into those great Astros teams in the mid 2000's including guys like: Biggio, Bagwell, Berkman, Clemens and Pettitte. That group made it to the World Series against the Chicago White Sox, and Mike got to pitch in the Fall Classic himself.Enjoy the episode! RXVIP Co-Founders Launch the CareONE Concierge Academy to Set a New Standard of Patient and Student Experiential Engagement to Help Address the COVID-19 Damage to the Pharmacy Educational System RXVIP Concierge Chief Pharmacist Officer and Founder Ken Sternfeld announced today that the open enrollment period for the CareONE Concierge Academy has been set for June, July and August 2020. With the hope of having a full class by the September back to school timeline, RXVIP will be promoting this new experiential eLearning platform through a joint marketing alliance with Life Improvement Media to deliver the entire curriculum over the internet on Helium Radio. RXVIP Concierge will also work with the Pharmacy Podcast Network to create content and career development podcasts that will bring experts and thought leaders in the pharmacy profession into the academy as CareONE Concierge adjunct professors. This new strategic partnership with PPN will also allow CareONE Concierge Academy to offer Certifications and CE Credits as part of an online subscription service. "Words cannot express how excited and grateful we are to be partnering with Ken and the team to help raise awareness and promote the CareONE Concierge Academy across all of our demographics. Our goal is to improve the quality of our listener's lives, and by adding a health care eLearning platform, we have the ability to not only enhance the career path of PharmDs, but also to connect our internet radio network to information that is pertinent to all listeners who need help during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic," Chief Creative Officer of Life Improvement Media and Founder/CEO of Helium Radio, Erik Remmel commented. "To support the content, we have created a separate channel on Helium just to focus on delivering the courses, lectures and podcasts and certifications that the academy has already so that it reaches the students who will tune in to our station as part of their educational pathway, and hopefully throughout their career and life," Remmel concluded. PharmD candidates and Alumni from Colleges of Pharmacy and Universities nationwide can receive mentoring and eLearning plus job training by joining the CareONE Concierge Academy. The course of study will align to traditional IPPE, APPE and Residency timelines that PharmDs usually follow, plus there will be a new 'MAPPE', which is a Master of APPE Proficiency course that will guarantee a position with RXVIP Concierge as a PharmD Provider upon completion. The strategic partnerships now in place enable RXVIP Concierge to play an integral role in the education and training of future PharmD candidates as well as any licensed Pharmacists or PharmDs who want to practice at the height of their profession. The CareONE Concierge Academy will utilize the skill sets plus leadership and mentoring talents of the current PharmD candidates from the Class of 2021 and past graduates of RXVIP Concierge rotations. The company has selected four charter members as the first of many who will be given the opportunity to participate as we shape this non-traditional eLearning and education solution. The CORE FOUR charter members include women from various colleges, with unique and forward thinking ideas that they want to use as advocates for Provider Status. They have shown extraordinary passion for enhancing the role of Pharmacists in the healthcare continuum for their peers graduating next year and beyond. They include Bittany Olbert, Krystal Hughes, Jessica Whetzel and Paige Zwicker as charter members of the CareONE Concierge Academy who will help develop the innovative programs which they will then share with colleges and universities across the country. They will focus on COVID-19-centric eLearning modules and core initiatives in Telemedicine, Testing, Tracing, Transition of Care, plus the need for next-generation Doctors of Pharmacy to deliver remote monitoring to provide better outcomes for Medicare patients with chronic diseases. "COVID-19 has caused us all to look to the future with hope that there will be advancements in healthcare," stated Ken Sternfeld, RPh and Chief Pharmacist Officer of RXVIP Concierge. "The time is now to fuse a group of young and older Pharmacists looking to win the battle with the coronavirus that has changed our world," Sternfeld added. "When the Yankees needed to return to greatness, they played rookies like Jeter, Pettitte, Posada and Rivera to move the franchise to the top. I figured that if it worked for them, it could work for us, so these women are the CareONE Concierge Academy Core Four," Sternfeld continued. "They show care, compassion and empathy in every aspect of their persona and they are extraordinary future leaders. It is my pleasure to mentor them and watch them lead the profession to a higher ground as part of our team," Sternfeld concluded. "When I started my rotation as an APPE student from Howard University College of Pharmacy, I knew that my passion for helping patients and members of our profession was very similar to what I saw at RXVIP," stated Brittany Olbert, a CareONE Concierge Academy charter member. "I also realized very quickly that Ken was eager to learn about what I thought and how I could help make these rotations more meaningful, not only for my career but for all my fellow APPE colleagues," Olbert continued. "I have been given many opportunities to grow during this rotation and want to help inspire others to join us in creating an Academy that meets the needs of every student," Olbert concluded. "The CareONE Concierge Academy allows us to put our pathway to provider status, developed over the years, into an eLearning remote platform that guides students through their requirements during and beyond the years spent in school," stated Crystal Cruz, ExVP/COO of RXVIP Concierge. "By completing the courses we offer to IPPE, APPE and Residents, we are able to help our students secure high paying RXVIP PharmD Concierge Provider positions the day they graduate," Cruz continued. "By having the Core Four adding their perspective as PharmD candidates, we feel confident our message that Pharmacists can practice at the height of their diploma is in good hands," Cruz concluded. "My interest in pharmacogenomic and its benefit to patients dealing with adverse drug reactions was why I chose RXVIP for my rotation, but after a few lectures, I quickly learned about the vision of the 'concierge' approach where Pharmacists could help more patients by collaborating with physicians," stated Krystal Hughes, PharmD Candidate 2021 from West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and Core Four charter member. "Ken was passionate about advocating for pharmacist provider status and has given me an opportunity to become a leader by collaborating with my peers. Together, we can help shape future rotations with a student forward manner." Hughes continued, "I am grateful that my efforts can be impactful to other students as we all adjust to a new model of telemedicine, testing and tracing in a time of COVID-19." "Pharmacy is at an incredible transformative inflection point. Those who question the need to change will be left behind. Ken recognized the coming change from transactional prescription based environments to patient focused value based payment & concierge style services enabling pharmacists to practice at the top of their license," stated Todd Eury, Founder & Publisher of the Pharmacy Podcast Network. "With the RXVIP Concierge Pharmacist Movement gaining momentum, the Pharmacy Podcast Network is proud to continue to support the crucial messaging from Ken & his team helping other pharmacists with a thirst for patient care to become advocates for better pharmacy care through the CareONE Concierge platforms," Eury added. "This is an exciting time to be in the pharmacy industry." "The millions of people already tuned into Helium Radio are potential new PharmD candidates or licensed PharmDs and Pharmacists who want to enhance their career by becoming a provider. Having our course on Helium Radio helps take us to the top of the educational spectrum," stated Jason Cavolina, PharmD and Co-Founder of RXVIP Concierge. "Patients are now listeners of podcasts and have a thirst for information on the new COVID-19 world, so this experiential pathway was developed for those suffering from the chronic disease states that our graduates of the academy can help. The listeners who dial in for our free content on ways to test, trace and use telemedicine to stay alive allow RXVIP Concierge to expand our mission to support our national population health initiatives with these strategic alliances." Cavolina added, "We are setting the stage to deliver evidence-based, expertise-insights, and editorial commentary to the public for the active 300,000 provider pharmacists in the U.S. today. I believe that this new platform is not just the pharmacy profession's top pathway to provider status for students, but now we are positioned to be the leading pharmacy radio information resource for our profession." Shelene and Barbara welcome Laura Pettitte into the splash zone to share the joys and struggles of living in the spotlight as the wife of a Major League Baseball player.
Dana Cavalea spent his career with the New York Yankees Organization as the Director of Strength and Conditioning, training the likes of Jeter, Pettitte, Rivera, and Posada during their greatest years. Dana wanted to work with the Yankees from a very young age. First, as a player, but later he realized where his passions truly lied: in training, preparing, and coaching others. He says he manifested a spot in the big leagues, but that doesn't mean he waited for that opportunity to come to him; “Whatever you do, to do well and to be great at it, there's a commitment that goes towards that.” Today, Dana is a high performance speaker and consultant for Pro Athletes, Entrepreneurs, Business Executives, Workforces, and Universities. He helps implement lifestyle strategies to reduce stress, improve work/life balance, and most importantly, improve daily performance and outcomes; AKA Performance Enhancement. One of the things that Dana is most outspoken about is that running a business is, in many ways, more difficult than being in pro athletics – and it takes conditioning to achieve peak performance there, too. Dana's work is based on four principles, or four drivers of performance: Training your mentality / mindset Training Fueling Recovery We often think of training as just something you do with your physical body, but it's really more about your mindset. In order to be great at anything, you have to have a great mindset, and “mindset is really about teaching yourself to frame things appropriately, and giving things the appropriate weight that they should have in your life.” -- Resources: Learn more at https://danacavalea.com/ (DanaCavalea.com) Connect with Dana: Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube -- We are brought to you by the Lawton Marketing Group, a full service advertising and design agency serving companies and entrepreneurs at all levels. The Bronx Pinstripes Show Extra! Yankees legend, Andy Pettitte interview by Danielle McCartan of Bronx Pinstripes. On April 13, 2016, hundreds of people lined the sidewalk at a strip mall in North Jersey donning their pinstripes and clutching precious items to be autographed by one of the pillars of the Yankee Dynasty. In fact, according to Christopher Jones, co-owner of All Star Collectibles in Pompton Plains, the first excited fans started lining up at 5pm to meet Andy Pettitte, scheduled to arrive at 7pm. He told me: “[Today] brings a star athlete to a community that hasn’t seen many star athletes in a while”. Actually, according to a representative of Steiner Sports, also in attendance, Pettitte has not made a public autograph appearance in New Jersey since the late 90’s.
