Just how safe is your business online? Fraud cases have more than doubled in recent years, while AI-driven scams are only growing more sophisticated. Today's guest shares how you can protect your business. John King is an experienced business executive and IT consultant who has worked with many small, midsize, and Fortune 1000 companies. He has held various management positions including Controller, CIO, Director of Applications Development, and president of his own consulting company. His book The Compass Approach provides techniques for managing a business around the four points of the compass to achieve improved results. Staying Safe Online John is a founding member of TrustedAndTrue, a one-of-a-kind matchmaking service that addresses a growing concern in the dating industry: fraud and theft. TrustedAndTrue's rigorous enrollment process eliminates the risk of individuals using fake identity credentials, giving users the security that everyone they interact with is who they say they are. TrustedAndTrue stems from John's work at The Authenticity Institute, an organization working to implement authenticity solutions in different industries. One of their latest innovations is the digital signature, which requires an in-depth identity verification process. To keep your business safe from scams, you could require a digital signature to access certain materials. Unlike traditional passwords, the digital signature is virtually impossible to hack. Most information security technology aims to catch scammers after they've already broken into your records. Digital signatures could potentially prevent these crimes before they happen. Marketing Across Industries Because their technology can apply to so many industries, The Authenticity Institute looks for entrepreneurs with deep experience in a particular vertical. Those experts become the marketing team, spreading the word about authenticity technology in banking, healthcare, law, real estate, and even the music industry. Each industry has a unique perspective business plan. Enjoy this episode with John King… Soundbytes 16:24-16:39 “If you have a business and you're counting on the person that you're working with from a vendor, that they're legit, right? You may not be successful with that. You may end up with a write-off you don't really want to have.” 22:00-22:17 “If you look at the information security market, it's growing by leaps and bounds. But they're operating on a premise where they ‘catch the bad guys' after the fact. We're saying we don't want to do that. We want to catch you before you go in.” 31:40-32:03 “What happens is one of your vendors gets their email address hacked and they send you a request to send some information and give you a fake number, and all of a sudden, you send thousands of dollars to an address that you've not sent before. And you've got a problem.” Quotes “The key is having an entrepreneur who understands the marketplace and can say this is how it should work and this is how we can bring value to that particular marketplace.” “They're operating on a premise where they ‘catch the bad guys' after the fact. We want to catch them before.” Links mentioned in this episode: From Our Guest Website: https://trustedandtrue.net/ Connect with John King on LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/johnwkingii Connect with brandiD Download our free guide to learn 16 crucial website updates that attract more leads and convert visitors into clients: https://thebrandid.com/website-tweaks/ Ready to elevate your digital presence with a powerful brand or website? The ONLY 3 Reason Businesses Fail Ever wondered why so many businesses collapse, even when they seem to be doing everything right? Join us on A New Direction as we dive deep into Larry Mandelberg's eye-opening book, Businesses Don't Fail, They Commit Suicide. Larry Mandelberg has taken his years of experience, and his own coaching case studies to ask the burdening question... Why do businesses fail? So often we want to blame failure on financial reasons, but are finances the problem or merely the symptom? Who is in control of the finances? Who hired them? As Larry Mandelberg points out so often we blame the fail on the symptoms of the company, and we never get to the real problem. No doubt we will work through the uncomfortable truths most entrepreneurs and business owners ignore. From poor decision-making and resistance to change to leadership blind spots, we'll explore the real reasons businesses fail—not because of market forces, but because of leadership sabotage. Larry Mandelberg's book, "Businesses Don't Fail They Commit Suicide: How to Survive Success in Good Times and Bad" is not just another business book. In fact, it is the results of Larry Mandelberg's research with over 100 companies and 250 Business Executives. The title is luring, for sure. However, when you consider that every business failure is not a result of money, but a result of poor leadership, we come to realize, we don't kill the business, it's our behavior or lack thereof why the business commits suicide. This book not only helps you understand the "only 3 reasons business fails", but then it moves you to understanding how maturity will affect what you do in your business and how in ever step of business maturity (from "youth" to "adulthood") where you can fail. Coupled with that he identifies the 3P's of success that are critical to business majority and where these fail, so do our business. Finally, Larry takes us through the 8 index identifiers that can trip us up and keep us from being successful, maintaining success or committing suicide. Fantastic book, deep, insightful, tons of knowledge and will change your perspective. It begs us all to ask the questions are we treating the symptoms or are we truly diagnosing the problem? Get a copy of "Businesses Don't Fail They Commit Suicide by clicking here! Hey friends, viewers and listeners of A New Direction I really do appreciate you! Tony Coelho has spent his entire adult life helping advance the lives of people with disabilities. He calls this his “ministry”. Congressman Steny Hoyer, former House Majority Leader, says that the disability community call him their “voice” and “champion.”Diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 22 years old, Tony's ministry is marked by significant milestones: primary author and sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) — the most important piece of civil rights legislation in the last 40 years; advocating for the ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; and convincing President Bill Clinton to establish the Office of Disability Employment Policy at the U.S. Department of Labor. Tony continued to advocate for civil rights for individuals with disabilities by convincing President Barack Obama to issue an executive order enforcing Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requiring federal contractors and subcontractors to hire people with disabilities as they have been doing since 1973 for women and minorities. He went on to work with the Biden White House to improve access to the internet for individuals who are blind, deaf, and physically impaired.Tony is a former six-term United States Congressman from California, elected in 1978 and serving until 1989. He served on the Agriculture, Interior, Veterans Affairs, and Administration Committees during his tenure, specializing in disability rights. In 1986, Tony was elected House Majority Whip, the third most powerful position in the House of Representatives. After leaving Congress, Tony joined Wertheim Schroder & Company, Inc., an investment-banking firm in New York, where he served as a Managing Director and then as President and CEO of Wertheim Schroder Investment Services, a firm that he grew from $400 million to $4 billion in managed investments. He formed ETC w/TCI, an education and training technology company in Washington, D.C., where he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Currently, he serves on a number of corporate boards of directors and i the founding partner of a national public affairs firm.© 2024 Building Abundant Success!!2024 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23bAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud
This episode of Raise the Line is special for a couple of reasons. Our guest, Toh Hong Keng recently graduated from medical school at the age of seventy, making him one of the oldest medical students in the world; and Shiv Gaglani is taking a break from his 3rd year of medical school -- which he is completing at the age of 35 -- to make a rare appearance hosting the show so he can compare notes with Toh about being a non-traditional med student and to learn from his inspiring example. Toh is a retired tech sales executive who earned his medical degree this summer from Southwestern University PHINMA in the Philippines after a long career in the Asia-Pacific region. As he tells Shiv, Toh brushed aside the opinions of acquaintances that pursuing a medical degree in his late sixties was a little crazy. “I'm a firm believer that at this age, we should be able to do what we like to do, not what people think we should be doing.” Tune in to find out what sparked his interest in getting the degree, what his biggest challenges were, how his classmates interacted with him, what he considers highlights of the experience, and what he plans to do next. You'll also learn about the concept of “sayang” which Toh relied on when he was facing doubts along this very difficult, but rewarding journey.
