From [Wendy's Coffeehouse Blog](https://wendyscoffeehouse.blogspot.com/2018/02/love-and-saucers-romances.html) - Experiencer David Huggins pulls no punches when relating the reality he lives or in painting the images caught in his memory. Love and Saucers details David's extraordinary revelations about the various Aliens he has encountered and their (continued) presence in his life...from childhood. Greetings, and welcome back to Horror Business. We have one awesome episode in store for you guys. On this episode we’re discussing Jacob’s Ladder and They Look Like People, and we were lucky enough to be joined by Jon The LitCritGuy! First and foremost we want to give a shoutout to our sponsors over at Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, the premiere screen-printing company of the Lehigh Valley. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a t-shirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. Thanks! We begin by talking about what horror related things we had done lately. Jon opens the conversation by talking about recently teaching Alien and Ex Machina to his classes and hosting screenings of those films. We briefly discuss the intellectualization of the horror genre and the nature of horror fandom in America. Liam talks about seeing Brawl On Cellblock 99, and Justin talks about seeing Phoenix Forgotten, The Open House and Before I Wake. There is a brief discussion on the Truth Or Dare trailer and Godzilla: Planet Of Monsters, and Liam mentions the trailer for the upcoming ‘Bigfoot behaving badly’ movie Primal Rage. Up first we talk about 1990’s Jacob’s Ladder. We begin by talking about our initial exposure to this film. Jon talks about specific scenes in the film that had an effect on him, especially the ‘gurney’ scene in the hospital. Justin talks about the impact it had on the aesthetics of horror films in the 1990s, especially the ‘headshake’ effect the film pioneered and that many films and music videos went on to use. Liam talks about seeing the film on late night basic cable as a kid. Jon talks about the impact the film had on the video game franchise Silent Hill, as well as the overall bleakness of the film. Tim Robbins’ performance is discussed, as are the numerous twists and turns the film takes. Some of the deleted scenes and the strength of having them removed are discussed, and the nature of the cinematography (quick flashes of something horrific as opposed to long looks at something horrific) is discussed. The existential nature of the film, in that it examines the horror and anxiety of every day life, is examined. Liam briefly talks about the weirdly optimistic ending. Jon compares the gurney scene in which Danny Aiello’s character rages against the hospital staff as another example of we, in every day life, cling to our every day life despite it being horrific. Some of the theological aspects of the film are examined, including those of Meister Eckhart who is quoted in the film. There is a discussion on whether or not Louie and Jezzie are separate entities from Jacob Singer i.e. the film is entirely psychological and NOT mystical in nature, with Justin arguing the former and Liam arguing the latter. The plotline of drugs being used on unknowing soldiers in Vietnam being somewhat unnecessary and weird is discussed. We talk about the legacy this movie has, in that it had a tremendous impact on a certain age group while remaining somewhat obscure to the younger generation. A comparison to Wes Craven’s The Serpent And The Rainbow is made, in that both films are non-traditional and non-linear approaches to the genre. Jon talks about the nature of horror film ascribed to each decade and how this film kind of bucks that trend. We discuss the possibility of the finished product being somewhat different from the screenplay and that it was a result of “director vs. screenwriter”. Up next we talk about 2015’s They Look Like People. Jon opens up the discussion by approaching the film’s take on alienation from a Marxist perspective, as well as commenting on the intimate look of the film in that it is a very tightly shot film. Liam talks about the “smallness” of the film, in that it has a small budget and a small cast and turns that “smallne...

So here we come to the third part of this episode, #82, and also the third in this return to HORROR in APRIL! And sure it may technically be now May, but a) we recorded this in April, gosh-darn-it, and b), hey, it's still April *somewhere* at the moment (thank you, west coast!) And one day if one finds this and they have no idea what month is which, this can fit in just fine.... Anyway, now Jack and Andrew simply talk about a whole host of horror fare, and it's all movies that have come out in the past ten years (some are even more recent as Jack explores a Netflix title and a new release that went under the radar, thanks Ridley Scott!) This time, unlike the previous two outtings, Andrew takes the lead with SIX of the eight films! Woot! Horror! Movies! A treasure-trove of discussion awaits you with the WAGES OF CINEMA! 1) THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE (2010) 2) THE INVITATION (2015) 3) PARANORMAL ACTIVITY (2007) 4) PHOENIX FORGOTTEN (2017) 5) IT FOLLOWS (2015) 6) THE WITCH (2016) 7) EVIL DEAD (2013) 8) THE CONJURING (2013) wagesofcinema@gmail.com https://facebook.com/wagesofcinema https://twitter.com/wagesofcinema https://tumblr.com/wagesofcinema All clips from the original trailers for films, except for "Rock & Gravel" at the end by Syd Vallentine (public domain)
On this week's episode of the Horror Junkies Podcast our host Mike is vacationing to Spain, so we decided that the best topic to discuss would be about horror movies that take place on vacation. The discussion begins with us talking about what Vacation Horror means to us and what are go to horror movies are within this genre. During our news segment Patrick, dug deep into the news reel to find out what's happening in the Horror Culture. First up on the chopping block. Alien Day is here finally and with that came a plethora of awesome news about the anticipated Alien: Covenant (May 19, 2017). There we numerous streams of the original movies, as well as interviews from the cast and crew. Also released were a new ling of Funko Pop figures, that include two different variations of Xenomorphs. Also announced, M. Night Shyamalan gave us the title to the sequel of Unbreakable and Split, Glass, which is going to coming to us hopefully in 2019. And unfortunately, the Horror world lost an iconic director, Jonathan Demme. The director of the truly terrifying Crime/Thriller Silence of the Lambs. In the Indie world, Camera Obscura directed by Aaron B. Koontz, starting Christopher Denham (Shutter Island & Argo) will be hosting its final screening at the Enzian Theater tomorrow Thursday 27th at 915. Camera Obscura is a movie about a young man who gets a pre-World War II camera from his fiancé. He was formerly a war photographer who has been experiencing PTSD. The new/old camera is not helping as it photographs events which have yet to occur. If you would like to find out more information about this movie head over to Paperstreetpictures.com In our Horror History segment show it was time to look into what the hell happened on this day in the world of Horror. First up, the 1953 Mark of the Vampire, directed by Tod Browning, starring Lionel Barrymore as Professor Zelin. Another film was release this day is the 1956 third adaptation in the Creature from the Black Lagoon series titled The Creature Walks Among Us, directed by John Sherwood. We also have some other death's in the Horror world. Broderick Crawford passed away at the age of 74 and Louis Peraino, producer of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, passed away at the age of 59. On this week's Versus segment, we took the beloved Griswald Family and put them up against The Strangers. The Twitter polls were super close with have the Griswald's at 42% and The Strangers at 58%. We all deiced that the Griswald's would try their best to survive The Strangers, but would suffer heavy casualties, in this weeks match. Shout out to all the people who voted this week and gave us their responses. We introduced a new segment this week called "What did we Watch". Where we try to guess each others movies, based on some criteria we came up with. But it didn't work out as we hoped, because we chose hard movies to guess. So we are going to restructure the segment. This week we watched two movies to review Phoenix Forgotten directed by Justin Barber and we also watched Pool Party Massacre directed by Drew Marvick. If you have yet to watch this go do yourself a favor. As usual everyone, hit us up, join the conversation, and Stay Weird --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/horrorjunkiespodcasts/support
