Episode 87 - Murdock and Marvel: 2014 Part 2 2014 saw some sales figures that had not been achieved in decades, and pop culture was filled with comic book related movies and merchandise. Marvel was dominant again, and along with DC again climbed back to nearly 70% of the total market share in comic shops. This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2013. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil v3 #33-36, Daredevil #1.5, Daredevil v4 #1-9, Daredevil: Dark Knights #6-8, Daredevil: Road Warrior Infinite Comic #1-4 (or #0.1), Fantastic Four #2 and 5-6, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #200, Origin Sin #2-3 and #3.1, She-Hulk #4 and #8-9, Black Widow #7, Hulk #4, Captain America #25 Writer: Mark Waid and Chris Samnee (#33), Waid (#34-36 and #1-9) Pencils: Jason Copeland (#33), Javier Rodriguez (#34 and #6-7), Chris Samnee (#35-36, #1-5 and #8-9), Inks: Jason Copeland (#33), Alvaro Lopez (#34 and #6-7), Chris Samnee (#35-36, #1-5 and #8-9) The year picks up right where we left off in 2012 — Matt Murdock was in Kentucky looking for info on the Darkhold, a ancient mystical book tied to the Sons of the Serpent. He was looking to track down Jack Russell, a.k.a. Werewolf by Night, hoping for answers. But before finding him, Daredevil ends up in the middle of an angry mob attacking some so-called “monsters.” He tries to stop it, gets shot, and the “monsters” — led by Russell — end up saving him. Even using some sort of restoration spell on him. Once he's patched up, Daredevil learns about missing Darkhold pages connected to a sorcerer named Lucien Sinclair. After a few magical trials, Matt takes Sinclair down, destroys his house, and handed Sinclair over to Russell — but keeps the pages for himself before heading back to New York. Back home, Matt and Kirsten McDuffie go bold — they take to the rooftops and broadcast a live message calling out the Sons of the Serpent. The Jester, who kicked this story off with a fake TV broadcast, is strung up on the side of a building which suggests Dardevil may be walking into a trap. Despite that, Daredevil wipes the floor with them and saves Kirsten from being gunned down by a helicopter for good measure. Meanwhile, Foggy's cancer takes a bad turn. Two Serpent members step in with an experimental drug that temporarily saves him — but they want Daredevil's help in exchange. One has a son on death row for a fire that killed twelve people, and they're hoping Matt can help clear his name. Matt investigates the crime scene with Elektra's help, fights Mamba and Constrictor, and then surprises everyone in court by admitting under oath that he's Daredevil. That confession sets off total chaos. The Sons of the Serpent storm the courtroom, a mistrial is called, and Daredevil fights them off. He exposes their infiltration of the Justice Department, but the fallout costs him his law license in New York. Kirsten steps in and says, “Let's get out of here,” and the two of them pack up for San Francisco. In April, we get a Daredevil 1.5 issue with 3 stories that are celebrating Daredevil's 50th Anniversary and looking at possible futures for Matt Murdock. In “The King in Red” Daredevil takes on Jubula Pride (the Owl's Daughter) after the rest of New York is blinded. He takes down Jubula and breaks the machine causing their sight to return. There's a story from Brian Michael Bendis with art by Alex Maleev the form of a letter to a child from Stana Morgan – a woman who married Matt Murdock/Daredevil and was likely killed by Bullseye. Finally, in “The Last Will and Testament of Mike Murdock” has Matt and Foggy watching a video tape of Mike Murdock from back in the day. Written and Penciled by Karl & Kurt Kesel, Inked by Tom Palmer. In Daredevil Road Warrior – a 4-part limited series released digitally in February and March (and later reprinted as Daredevil #0.1) in which we get the trip from New York to San Francisco for Kirsten and Matt Murdock which was far from ordinary and included several stops and plenty of fighting. In May, we got the start of Volume 4 of Daredevil – with the same creative team that ended volume 3. Matt Murdock and Kirsten McDuffie are in San Francisco and started their own law office and Daredevil is fitting right in by saving little girls from kidnappings and/or bombs. Over the next few issues, Daredevil goes up against SF's new kingpin of crime – The Owl – with the help of another blind vigilante The Shroud. At times it seems like Shroud and Daredevil are working together, other times they are fighting it out. It's complicated, I guess. They take down the Owl but Max/Shroud is still looking for Julia Carpenter whom he's in love with. Meanwhile Foggy, in a wheelchair and fake beard, comes to Matt's and Kirsten's new law office. In issue 5, we get a funeral for Foggy Nelson (though he's not actually dead) after he confessed to wanting to “go out like a superhero” and then jumped into a big green machine Leapfrog used to attack San Francisco and was equipped with a bomb. His jump allows the machine to explode safely while allowing Foggy to die a hero. In issues 6-7, we get a two-part story as part of the Original Sin crossover event. Daredevil is back in New York and has a vision of his father hitting his mother while he was a baby. He seeks out his mother for answers and finds out she's been arrested and is being sent to Wakanda. He investigates and uncovering a potentially illegal plot involving a US General and Wakandan officials, he confronts Queen Shuri about it and secures her release. Finally able to ask about the vision, he learns she left due to postpartum depression. The story ends with a heartfelt reconciliation between Maggie and her son. The year wraps up by setting up the next big arc — Kilgrave, the Purple Man, and his superpowered children — which spills into 2015. Which we'll need to wait until then to discuss. Lastly, we'll talk about the Daredevil: Dark Knights limited series. This 8-book collection contains three stories – the first story “Angels Unaware” is write and penciled by Lee Weeks and is about Daredevil braving a snowstorm to get a heart from a crashed helicopter meant for a young girl. The second story, titled “A man named Buggit” written and penciled by David Lapham in which Daredevil follows a 10-inch man who has stolen evidence needed to save a client. The final story is titled “In the Name of the King” and shows a team-up of Daredevil and Misty Knight in the Caribbean written by Jimmy Palmiotti and penciled by Thony Silas. Honestly the less said about the last story the better. This Week's Spotlight: No Spotlight This Week! Sorry. Episode 54 - Murdock and Marvel: 2001 Part 2 The year 2001 has a dark shadow over it, and there are elements of this year that are pretty rough, because as the year closed comic books were trying to make sense of and deal with 9/11 just like the rest of America. But the start of the year brought a lot of great entertainment and for the first time in years sales held steady (mostly) This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2001. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil #14-26, Daredevil / Spider-Man #1-4, Daredevil: Yellow #1-5, Daredevil: Ninja #2-3, Marvel Knights #7-9 and #11-15, Black Widow #2-3, Spider-Man and Mysterio #1-3, X-Men #109, Big Town #4, Deadpool #52, Black Panther #31, Elektra #1, Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #7-8, 100 Greatest Marvels of All Time #1 and 4, Marvel Masterworks: Daredevil #2 and Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor #3. Writing: David Mack (#14-15), Brian Michael Bendis (#16-19 and #26) Bob Gale (#20-25) Pencils: Joe Quesada and David Ross (#14), Ross (#15 and #23-25), David Mack (#16-19), Phil Winslade (#20-22), Alex Maleev (#26) Inks: Mark Morales (#14-15) David Mack and Morales (#15) Mack and Pond Scum (#17) Mack (#18-19), James Hodgkins (#20-22), Hodgkins and Mark Pennington (#23), Pennington (#24-25), Alex Maleev (#26) After the wrap-up of the Parts of a hole storyline that included a trail of Kingpin before he's eventually blinded by Maya Lopez aka Echo, we get our first story from Brian Michael Bendis with David Mack moving over to art. The 4-book story, Titled Wake Up, is a fantastically told and beautifully brought to page by the creative team. It doesn't really have any action and is really only loosely about Daredevil. Interesting, right? This is, without a doubt, worth spotlighting this week – so we'll talk more about it then. The other main story we get this year is called Playing to the Camera in which Daredevil is sued by rich philanthropist Samuel Griggs and wants to retain Nelson and Murdock (specifically Matt Murdock) as his lawyer. Matt reluctantly agrees as he knows he wasn't involved with destroying the man's greenhouse and plants and wants to figure out who's behind it. As Daredevil, he hires a lawyer and they have their days in court surrounded by a media circus. The trial ends with 3 daredevils in the courtroom - Murdock as himself holding a video tape of himself as Daredevil earlier that morning, Peter Parker in a Daredevil costume with the defense attorney and a third Daredevil who crashes a window, admits to the property damage, offers the $50k needed to fix it and then reveals his true identity as Terrance Hillman. Confused? So is Murdock and Nelson. Apparently, Hillman decided on his own to dress up as Daredevil and crash the courtroom. He then used the reveal and announced retirement to swing fame and fortune (and help out the real Daredevil). We also learn that Hillman didn't destroy the property either and that the Ringmaster was behind everything. He was testing his ability to implant false memories in people. One interesting side note about the first issue of the Playing with Camera storyline. A second story appears in the issue “My Brother's Keeper” written by Stan Lee and Kevin Hall with art by Gene Colan. In the short story, we see Daredevil and Spider-Man during a night out. We did get one more book in December from Brian Michael Bendis but we'll save that for next year's discussion. Finally In Daredevil: Yellow we get a 6-book story in which Matt is writing letters to the late Karen Page about the early days of Daredevil and the Nelson and Murdock law firm as a way to find forgiveness for everything that happened between them. The story, by Jeph Loeb, artist Tim Sale and colors by Matt Hollingsworth, is another retailing of the first handful of issues from Daredevil volume 1 that ends with the Purple Man story and Matt finding the forgiveness he needs. Gdaaaay livin legends!!! It's time for a brand new horror Creepypasta!!! This time we have purple men with green gooey mouths, mysterious missing people, strange corporations, and.....a rural dating event?? Mates I bring you a truly eerie and creepypasta for your lovely ears! Been trying a new Gating technique to cut out audio levels at a certain range. I'm going to see how that performs in todays episode, and doing my utmost to tweak it back if there are any issues or feedback
It's been a while since we read something from the Marvel Graphic Novel series, so we're going back to read Emperor Doom, a story where Dr. Doom steals Purple Man's powers and takes over the world. Doom actually does a pretty good job, until the Avengers screw everything up. It's really all Wonder Man's fault that world hunger is still a thing. Then we move onto Earth X #5 in which Uatu continues to be very mean to X-51. Next Time: The Superior Foes of Spider-Man #1-6

Few Marvel heroes stretch back as far as Namor: The Sub-Mariner does through canon, and a year into Daredevil's run, the two characters come against one another! In Daredevil #7, Namor WIPES THE FLOOR with Daredevil, kicking his ass in the air, on land, and underwater. But despite this power imbalance, Namor sees the worth in Daredevil and treats him with dignity, only leaving him in defeat, instead of destroyed. Then – Marvel's first family made contact with Daredevil back in DD #2, our second episode. Once again, the FF & DD find themselves teaming up, and this time MM, RR, SS, & Co are facing off against D(r)D for the BB. Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Matt Murdock, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Doctor Doom, and Baxter Building, respectively. The story here focuses far more on the FF with DD in more of a support role, which suits him just fine. Stepping in, and once again hopelessly outmatched, against Doctor Doom while a powerless Fantastic Four flounder, Daredevil gives a solid 20 pages in this two part Billy Club Bonus appearance! Last – Daredevil's rogues gallery is known for a number of incredible, threatening villains, representing menaces of all kinds. Whether it's Kingpin, Bullseye, or yes, even The Beast of The Hand, the villains of Daredevil cover the peak-human, the not-so-human, and the all-powerful. However, none of those guys show up until later. And for every early Purple Man and The Owl, there's Stiltman, the most under-appreciated Daredevil villain of them all. In a story full of twists and turns and a pivoting point for the awkward trio-romance, more than just the Stiltman comeths. Cometh? Comeths. Sure. Join Daredevil fans Nico & Tori as the two begin a journey through the History of The Man Without Fear (or as he starts out, The Yellow-Bellied Fear-Man). Each episode of The Billy Club focuses on a single Daredevil story, covering every appearance of Daredevil, Matt Murdock, and more -- from the swashbuckling 60s to the harsh light of the 90s, The Billy Club is your #1 Daredevil hangout for fun, facts, history, heart, and of course, hornhead himself. Then – The journey into Hell's Kitchen continues for Nico & Tori as they examine the UNBELIEVABLE second issue of Daredevil! The Man Without Fear (or as he still is, The Yellow-Bellied Fear-Man) takes on Spider-Man's nemesis, Electro, and even meet The Fantastic Four! But also, throws a car engine, flies a spaceship, and more wildness. Next – An all-time fav foe of Daredevil's flies into Hell's Kitchen as Nico & Tori examine the game-changing third issue of Daredevil, as the book finally introduces THE OWL! The saga of Karen Page and her complicated relationships with the men in her life and her own independence continues to unfold in the pages of one of the most defining early issues of Daredevil ever. Finally – He's here! Run! Hide! It's Killgrave, the Purple Man, in his first absurd, terrifying appearance! Killgrave goes on to menace the Marvel Universe like few foes before, and this is where he gets his start against ol' hornhead. For the first time – and far from the last, Matt's strength-of-self dictates his ability to overcome the odds, and Nico and Tori cannot shut up about ANY of this. I received an email from BamBox saying they were moving offices and found some stuff that had been stashed away and forgotten until they started packing up. One of those items was Devil's Reign: X-men #1 signed and CGC witnessed by Vincent D'onofrio. Devil's Reign is a good story-line from Marvel that centers on Daredevil/Kingpin, but it does crossover to a few other titles (like X-men). The gist of the story is Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin is mayor of NYC. He decides he wants to get rid of all those pesky mutants. How the X-men tie into it is Kingpin wants to get rid of the Krakoan tree portal the X-men have in NYC. There is a fair bit of Emma Frost flexing, Daredevil & Elektra fighting, and a smidgen of Purple Man added to make things interesting. The story alone wasn't enough to make me want to buy this slab. The Vincent D'onofrio autograph on that cover with the amazing artwork depicting Kingpin is what sold it for me. Vincent is a very versatile actor who has portrayed many fan favorite characters in movies and TV. Some of his more memorable for me are Private Pyle from Fullmetal Jacket, Bill Newman in JFK, Edgar in Men in Black, Carl Stargher in the Cell, Vic Hosking in Jurassic World, Robert Goren in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Wlison Fisk (Kingpin) in the MCU. He brings a little something special to each of these characters. I think if you are a fan of both the X-men and Vincent D'onofrio as I am, this signed slab is an amazing piece. Even if you are just a D'onofrio fan, having his autograph on this comic about one of his most popular characters is a great addition to your collection. If you could care less about Vincent D'onofrio or you don't collect autographs, you would be better served just picking up a raw copy of the comic or an unsigned slab. NEW AVENGERS VOL. 1 #2 ‘Breakout' Part 2 Release Date December 29, 2004 Cover Date February, 2005 Writer(s) Brian Michael Bendis Penciler(s) David Finch Inker(s) Danny Miki Mark Morales Colorist(s) Frank D'Armata Letterer(s) Richard Starkings Albert Deschesne Editor(s) Tom Brevoort Nicole Wiley Molly Lazer SCORES: Seren - 4/5, Rey - 4/5 Torn Carnages Remember - To Know Her Is To Fear Her! Enjoy! SYNOPSIS (courtesy of Wiki): Another explosion rocks the Raft and Captain America and Spider-Man watch Electro and his client flee the scene. Seeing that there is no way to catch them, Spider-Man does the next best thing and jumps towards the hole to help people, despite the Captain's warnings to let the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents take point. Spider-Man should have listened to Cap, for instead of people looking for help, he found himself face-to-face with scores of super-villains. Dogpiled by the baddies, his mask gets ripped off and his arm gets broken by Jigsaw. Meanwhile, on the bottom level of the Raft, Matt Murdock is trying to get the Sentry to assist them in escaping when they and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are attacked by Carnage. Murdock tosses Foggy Nelson into the Sentry's cell and closes the door, warning him not to open it, no matter what. Murdock, Luke Cage and Jessica Drew fight Carnage until another villain comes out to join the fight: Murdock's old nemesis, Mr. Hyde. On the surface, Spider-Man is being pummeled by dozens of super-villains when Captain America breaks them up and leads a group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents into the fray. Trapped inside a lightless cell, Foggy manages to convince the Sentry to help. Emerging from his cell, The Sentry grabs Carnage and flies at top speed straight through eight floors of the facility and out into the stratosphere, all the way to outer space. Once there, he proceeds to act as judge, jury and executioner to Cletus Kasady and tears Carnage in half. Cage takes care of Mr. Hyde and Drew tries to fly them out of the exit the Sentry made when Hydro-Man starts drowning them. They get to the surface to join Captain America and Spider-Man in the free-for-all. One of the villains (Ironclad) grabs Cap and throws him high into the sky where he's caught by Iron Man. Cage is confronted by The Purple Man who tells him to kill the other heroes, then himself. VENOM BLASTS (things to look out for in episode)!! The Marvel Obsession continues Brand new Theme music! Enjoy! SYNOPSIS (courtesy of Wiki): With the Avengers disbanded and both the Fantastic Four and the X-Men preoccupied, a mysterious figure hires Electro to perform a job. A big one. Matt Murdock, Luke Cage and Foggy Nelson meet with Jessica Drew on the Raft, the Maximum-Maximum Security Installation of Ryker's Island. The quartet is ushered through the Raft to see Murdock's client. The Raft holds the worst of the worst, eight levels of super-powered serial killing maniacs, including the Purple Man, who Luke Cage holds a personal grudge with. Getting inside an elevator, they travel eight levels underwater to the bottom level where all of the generators suddenly power down. Not restricted to the Raft, the entire city of New York is plunged into darkness. Civilians have a moment to ponder this power outage when a lightning bolt tears into the Raft. Peter Parker first sees the power outage as a blessing as it gets him out of watching a Hugh Grant movie with his wife. A blessing, until he notices the bolt of lightning coming down on the Raft. Spider-Man piggy-backs a ride to the island on the underside of a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicopter, one that gets hit by a stray lightning blast causing it Spider-Man to plummet to the river. Spider-Man swims through the freezing water and is greeted on the Raft by the helicopter's official passenger, Captain America. Meanwhile, inside the Raft, Electro materializes out of a ball of lightning, collects the person he was freeing, and to cover their escape, frees the remainder of the prisoners. As explosions rock the Raft, Murdock makes Jessica Drew take them to his client. Opening his cell, Murdock pleads to the disheveled hermit for help. When asked, Murdock reveals that the man is the Sentry, the most powerful super hero on the planet, serving a voluntary sentence for killing his wife. The Superhero Show Show #466 James Gunn vs X-Men: The Animated SeriesThe Taste Buds discuss a Cyclops episode of X-Men: The Animated Series, and go over James Gunn's big announcements, on an all-new episode of The Superhero Show Show!On an all-new, all-different episode of The Superhero Show Show, Mike and Ryan are left alone to discuss two major life events. The first is, of course, the little video that James Gunn made announcing the projects of the first chapter of the all new DCU: Gods and Monsters. If you want to hear what they have to say about the five movies, you'll have to head over to Patreon. But in the episode proper they will give their hopes and predictions for five new television shows: Creature Commandos, Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Island, and Booster Gold. That's a lot of TV, but most of it will be filmed and then never shown, so it won't be so bad. The Taste Buds are still without any new shows to watch this week, so they turn once again to X-Men: The Animated Series, and it's a Cyclops episode!!! Ladies and gentlemen, Superhero Show Show proudly presents No Mutant is an Island, obviously a stupid title, because Krakoa is a mutant and an island.Still upset with Jean's death, which in the order the episodes aired happened two years ago, Cyclops decides to go back to the orphanage he stayed at when he was a kid. Most of the children today are being adopted by a man named Killgrave, aka the Purple Man. It's up to Scott and the head of the orphanage (who has a little requited crush on Scott) to stop the Purple Man and rescue the children. And next week features the return of television, when a new episode of Harley Quinn mercifully drops! TV EPISODES AND FILMS DISCUSSED:X-MEN: THE ANIMATED SERIES #504Watch X-Men: The Animated Series on Disney+A disillusioned Cyclops leaves the X-Men and returns to the orphanage where he grew up, only to find it under the control of a mind-controlling mutant. Also, don't forget to:Visit Us!Shop With Us On Amazon!Like Us!Follow Us!Write To Us! — contact@yourpopfilter.comListen to more of Cassie and Katelynn on Unnatural 20'sListen to more of Ryan on Movie of the YearListen to more of Mike on The OCDWhile Americans overwhelmingly support the right of an individual to make their own decisions about abortion, unfortunately, that right is no longer protected everywhere in the U.S.The Supreme Court overturned Roe versus Wade on June 24th.Abortion is a basic healthcare need for the millions of people who can become pregnant. This week on the newest episode of Comics and Chronic the guys discuss Daredevil, Yellow! The Marvel comic from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. But first they discuss the Mario movie for the umpteenth time. Did Cody predict Chris Pratt would be the voice of Mario in an earlier episode? What debaucherous shenanigans took place tin Cody's hometown home that Jake brings to light? Who is the greatest duo to have existed and why is it Bananas in Pajamas? Is Daredevil Yellow a good jumping on point for new Daredevil readers? What do we think of Daredevil's supporting cast? What do we think of his villains? Who would win in a fight between Electro and Stevie Wonder? Where does Karen Page rank on superhero love interests? Is Daredevil a player? Is the Owl the perfect villain name (for a guy named Owlsley)? What do we think of the Purple Man? Should David Tennant come back to the MCU? Should Foggy Nelson die? Is Foggy Matt Murdock's Artie Bucco? Do we like Daredevil's villains more than his supporting cast? What are some of the great Daredevil runs? When does a nap just become sleep? Are there not enough superhero gingers? What does this book rank on the Pesci scale? What's with the Pesci scale and does Anthony reveal in this episode the way to unlock the Joe Pesci scale's secrets? Is this a book that needs to be on your shelf? And have you checked out the Comics and Chronic hotline?! Find out the answers to these and more on this week's new episode! Leia and Josh are joined by special guest Patrick Stout Gerrity to talk about Devil's Reign! So many weird choices in this one. Matt Murdock's twin brother has been resurrected via magic crystal and his identity has been wiped from the minds of the world by the Purple Man's children and all of this somehow leads to a storyline involving Wilson Fisk's *reelection* as Mayor of New York. Get ready for a wild ride.

Programing Note:Both hosts will be traveling this summer and we realized we may not be able to record new episodes for a period of two months. In order to keep a regular cadence, we are going to pre-record as much as we can in May, and then drip them to you at a rate of one per week. We hope to pick up the pace again sometime in August or September. In the meantime we hope you will be able to “savor” the episodes on this slower cadence. We have also invested in improved post-production editing. Maybe you noticed a difference in the last half dozen episodes? In This Episode:Mike and Ed discuss the Purple Man, a villain who admits to having the ability to compel people to follow his every verbal command. What is the difference between persuasion and compulsion? Are they different in kind, like running vs flying, or just degree, like running vs running super fast? If someone is persuaded to do something illegal they are criminally responsible for the act, but what if they are compelled? If someone can resist being compelled, are those who fail to resist liable? Where does one draw the line? Can a line be drawn at all? Also: Is the US military secretly experimenting on mind control chemicals? Have I persuaded you to listen to this episode yet?Behind the Comic:This is the first appearance of the Purple Man, who in modern comics becomes a very dangerous, disturbing villain. He is most famous for taking Jessica Jones hostage and under his control for months. The after-effects of that mind-kidnapping were explored both in the comics (Alias #24) and the first season of Jessica Jones (originally on Netflix, now available on Disney+)In This Issue:(Not ready at time of publication. Will be updated soon!) This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit www.superserious616.com

What If... The Purple Man wasn't purple? (or interesting?) A suspected serial killer is apprehended but escapes when the patrol car he's being held in inexplicably drives in front of an oncoming truck. All of the murders he's suspected of—and previously confessed to—have been ruled suicides. Mulder believes the killer is using some kind of power of persuasion to force people to hurt themselves. Mulder and Scully try to track him down and prove that he's a killer before anyone else dies. Originally recorded on 20 November 2021. Originally released on 31 December 2021. Next week is the anniversary of the premiere of the show Gargoyles, an animated 90s series with queer subtext simmering just under the surface — and that's according to the show's creator. In honor of that anniversary, we're diving back into the Sewers archives for a chat with Fazaad Feroze, who became obsessed with the show when he was young. The child of immigrants from Guyana before moving to the United States, he only has to look back one generation on his family tree to see a life that is unrecognizable to him. And as you can imagine, the family's introduction to American culture wasn't always easy and came with frequent surprises — including, when Fazaad was a teenager, the discovery of his real name. We'll have that conversation in a minute. First a big thanks to everyone who supports the Sewers of Paris at Patreon.com/mattbaume. And to everyone who's left a review on Apple podcasts or wherever you listen. Also don't forget to check out my YouTube where I post videos about queer pop culture history — and you can also head over to my Patreon to watch hours of bonus videos featuring stories of queer TV, film, and Broadway history. And check out my cute little newsletter where I share sneak peeks at what I'm working on at mattbaume.com.
