Sure, there's no one right way to write an argument paper. It can be three paragraphs, nine, or even seventeen. It can be loaded with research. It can be full of voice and personal anecdotes. It can be intensely academic, with a formal objective perspective and thirty-two sources cited with MLA. We want our students to understand the rich palette of tools available to them, and mentor texts, varied writing assignments, and encouragement to try new things are all so important. But so is a place to start. Just as I think the 5 paragraph essay isn't dead, because we need it sometimes for skill foundations, I think a clear and simple formula for introductions can be really helpful for students who are struggling to write and organize a coherent argument. Honestly, it's the base I used for my English papers through my B.A. AND M.A. in English literature, and the one I made sure all my students knew how to use when they needed it. It's the foundation for more complex options. So today, I'm going to talk you through it. Go Further: Explore alllll the Episodes of The Spark Creativity Teacher Podcast. And in the last budget, the Government announced funding for four new adult ADHD teams. But what does an adult diagnosis of ADHD – a common neuro-developmental disorder which makes it harder to concentrate and manage time – mean for a person's life? Why are more adults choosing to be assessed for the disorder? And does a diagnosis have a positive impact on a person's life? For Mairéad Deevy, a Waterford-based barrister, her ADHD diagnosis seven years ago brought a “sense of relief”.“There was probably a sense of hopefulness that things would improve,” Ms Deevy told the In The News podcast. “For me, and I think for a lot of people, when they get the ADHD diagnosis, other symptoms of anxiety and depression very much go into the background. Those looking to pick up a pair of the brand's Air Jordan 1 High sneakers could shell out an extra $18 on top of their current $180 price tag after the new tariff goes into effect April 9, industry sources told The Post. The 46% tariff on Vietnam would add another $8.28 to the total cost per pair, which adds up when its multiplied by 8,000 – or the number of sneakers that can fit in to a shipping container. In this episode, Jeff Frazier discusses the complex issues facing Haiti, emphasizing the importance of understanding the existing puzzle pieces of governance, rule of law, and economic development. He highlights the critical role of humanitarian aid and the need for self-reliance initiatives to create sustainable growth. The conversation also touches on the interplay between these elements and the challenges posed by corruption and governance failures. Jeff concludes by outlining future discussions on the Trump effect and ethical obligations towards Haiti. Takeaways The world is moving too fast for traditional approaches. Good governance is essential but not sufficient for progress. Haiti currently has zero elected officials, indicating a governance crisis. Tax collection is crucial for providing basic societal services. Corruption is a pervasive issue in all developing nations. Rule of law is necessary for entrepreneurship and investment. Economic development must be prioritized over security concerns. Humanitarian aid must be paired with self-reliance initiatives. The disparity between Haiti's economy and population growth creates scarcity. Understanding the missing piece is vital for sustainable development. The conversation explores the importance of talking to kids about disabilities and how to approach the topic. Amanda Owen, who has a brother with a rare chromosomal disability, shares her personal experience and passion for advocating for individuals with disabilities. They discuss the need to normalize disabilities early on, finding common ground with individuals with disabilities, and the importance of open and honest conversations. They also touch on the generational shift in attitudes towards disabilities and the impact of societal norms on children's perceptions. In this conversation, Amanda Owen discusses how to address children's curiosities and teach empathy and inclusivity towards individuals with disabilities. She emphasizes the importance of recognizing similarities and finding common interests, as well as using moments of curiosity as teaching opportunities. Amanda also suggests using the phrase 'excuse us while we're learning' to address inappropriate comments and engage in a respectful conversation. She encourages parents to have scripted conversations with their children about differences and to model empathy and inclusivity in their own behavior. Amanda also shares her books, 'Owen the Wonder' series, which teach children about disabilities and promote understanding and acceptance. Her big brother, Nick, was the 11th person in the world diagnosed with his rare chromosomal disability, which meant Amanda grew up as an advocate. She became a special education teacher to help students like her brother, but desired to offer her students and their families more. Taking a leap of faith, Amanda left the classroom 11 years ago to launch Puzzle Pieces, a Kentucky-based nonprofit that serves individuals with disabilities, offering them targeted autism services, residential living, vocational training, supported employment, behavior services and more. Amanda's work has become a state and national model for disability services, allowing her to speak all over the country on advocacy, provider services and her perspective as a sibling. She inspires everyone she meets to dream big, work hard, own their mistakes and learn from them, be themselves, and most of all -- laugh! Amanda loves to connect!
