On November 30th, 1999, a huge movement spanning labor, environment, human rights, fair trade and more literally shut down the World Trade Organization in Seattle. It was milestone in the growing anti-corporate globalization movement and challenged the inevitability of neo-liberalism. In a new series of episodes, we're looking at the 25th anniversary of the "Battle in Seattle" talking with a number of people who participated in the organizing and its aftermath. In this episode, we talk about the influence that Seattle had on our own organizing in Houston, TX. In 2001, we officially formed the Houston Global Awareness Collective with our comrades. We focused on political education around corporate globalization, empire and anti-capitalism (sound familiar? maybe you heard something of this on a podcast). After 9/11, our emphasis shifted to the anti-war movements and eventually began a local campaign against corporate war profiteer Halliburton. Life Group Northwest Indiana - A Young Adults Small Group in Northwest Indiana

In times of troubles or trials, it's fair to say we usually go into self-preservation mode. We do what we can, with God's help, to make it through it. That was always God's design when He sent the trial. However, when we come out of the trial, we certainly realize the amazing love of God to bring us through, but we are also more aware of His working in the world on a grand scale. In today's lesson, we'll pray with Hannah as she praises God for His goodness to her, but also of His amazing working in the world.

Parents Defending Education's new report, “Little Red Classrooms,” offers some worrisome information about China's reach in U.S. K-12 schools through so-called Confucius Classrooms. The report notes that Parents Defending Education “uncovered contracts that show Confucius Classrooms, or other Chinese government-backed programming, are still in operation” in a number of schools throughout the U.S., including Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma. “On July 11, 2022, the Tulsa Public Schools board of education approved entering into an agreement with the Confucius Classroom Coordination Offices, which [operate] out of the International Leadership of Texas Global nonprofit,” the report says. “The Chinese International Education Foundation would cover the cost of the program. Carver Middle School offers students a ‘Confucius Connection' through its ‘Global Awareness' programming.”Ryan Walters, Oklahoma state superintendent of public instruction, says, “What we did is, we — immediately upon finding this out — we have required the district to turn over any contracts, any curriculum, anything that's been handed out through this course.”“So, we are actively compiling that from the district right now to do a deep dive into, ‘Hey, what was the Chinese government trying to get in this classroom? What were the teachers discussing in these classes?'” Walters says, adding:So that's what we've required of the district right now. So, we are going to be looking for that information to have a better understanding of what was being funneled into these classrooms.Walters joins today's episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the Parents Defending Education report, whether he has spoken with any teachers, parents, or students at Tulsa's Carver Middle School, and Tulsa Public Schools' response to his Twitter video, “China will not be allowed in Oklahoma schools.” Hosted on Acast. This episode is a very concise and basic review of Ukraine's history in the past 100-ish years: Part 1 covers the late 1800s to 1945, and Part 2 covers 1945 - early 2022. In the U.S., we aren't taught much at all about Eastern European countries, like Ukraine, in school. They are largely mysteries. My hope is that these episodes change that. Albert Einstein said, “The definition of genius is taking the complex and making it simple.” I am no genius, but I definitely tried to do the genius thing here. It was a challenge. Obviously, I leave a LOT out and I gloss over tons of things we could spend days and weeks learning about. But I did my best to share historical facts as we know them currently. Not all of my episodes will be this date and history-heavy—many will share more personal stories. But this moment in history demands context and background, so I went for it. I hope it helps. SourcesInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/wiserworldpodcast/Website: https://wiserworldpodcast.com/To join the email list, click on the website link, and it will take you there! Song credit: "Heart of Indonesia" by mjmusics

SourcesInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/wiserworldpodcast/Website (sign up for email newsletter): https://wiserworldpodcast.com/To join the email list, click on the website link, and it will take you there! Song credit: "Heart of Indonesia" by mjmusics

Why do we need to know about countries, culture, governments, economies different from our own? In this episode I give you four reasons for why having a regular diet of world material in your life benefits not just you, but everyone. *CORRECTION: At the end of this episode, I say I will launch in Season 1 on the Middle East in Episode 3. Instead, I'll be doing a 4-episode mini-series on four major countries and their history so we can follow our current events situation a little more easily. Then I'll do Season 1.  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wiserworldpodcast/Website: https://wiserworldpodcast.com/To join the email list, click on the website link, and it will take you there! Song credit: "Heart of Indonesia" by mjmusics
