They dive into the unique features of Silk, such as trustless wallet recovery and sending crypto through email. They also discuss the implications of Silk for the data ecosystem and the future plans for Silk, including integration with traditional payment systems. Renee shares her excitement for the consumer side of crypto and the potential of open data.   Takeaways: Silk is a fully embeddable account management tool that goes beyond a traditional wallet, offering features like trustless wallet recovery and sending crypto through email. The maturity of the Web3 space has led to the consolidation of reputation systems and the emergence of on-chain point systems. Off-chain data and interoperability play a crucial role in the Web3 ecosystem, allowing for more scalable and accessible applications. Silk aims to provide a seamless user experience and increase adoption by integrating with traditional payment systems and enabling easy fiat-to-crypto transactions. The future of consumer crypto lies in reducing friction and improving accessibility, allowing users to easily use their crypto in everyday transactions. Today I'm joined by Renee Davis, Duolingo's Director of Recruiting. In this episode, we address the issues with the old method of targeting a specific subset of students, and how to stay up to date with each new generation. We dive into how to improve the graduation numbers of underrepresented student populations, and debate the merits of recruiting through TikTok! Renee's belief that a recruitment program is about what the students can gain from it has already proven its worth, with seven out of eight interns accepting their offers to come back to work, and she takes me through how she managed this impressive feat. From virtual yoga to why three-year recruitment plans are ideal, join me in a lively discussion about changing the way we find talent.    Key Points From This Episode: An introduction to Renee Davis, the driving force behind Duolingo's modern recruiting operation. Why recruiting is about more than just meeting hiring goals. Tackling problems in university recruiting to impact students' lives. The challenges and rewards of going virtual. Using virtual events to improve outreach. What platforms you can use to improve your recruitment programs. Mamas in Training: Preparing for Pregnancy & Motherhood

Renee Davis, mama of 4 (3 biological and one adopted) and a lactation consultant, is here to share her challenging journey into motherhood along with her passion for helping breastfeeding and pumping mamas. After wishing she had more support when beginning her lactation journey, she realized that she could do so much better! She is so warm and loving and it was a dream to chat with her.  The only support she had had during that time was her mom and she revels in the accessibility that is available to mamas now. Aware that sometimes moms aren't heard and aren't supported enough from the moment that little baby gets placed into your arms, Renee is on a path to change that. She gives advice to new moms for important steps to take that will help keep your lactation journey as smooth as possible including having alone time after your child is born, protecting your milk supply and more.  If you are looking for support and the basic help during the start of your motherhood and breastfeeding journey, Renee is here to help you. Renee Davis talks about educational technology in nursing, its benefits, and how it overlaps with other healthcare education designs and platforms. [01:11] How Renee Got Into Nursing Education [04:03] Renee’s Most Significant Experience in Nursing [09:01] How to Use EdTech in Academic Healthcare Education [12:58] to Integrate EdTech into Clinical Healthcare Education [15:54] Classroom Techniques for Keeping Students Active and Entertained [23:30] Educational Software and Educational Apps for the Classroom [29:36] Major Problems in Nursing Education Renee Davis has been a registered nurse for eighteen years. She became interested in a career in healthcare as a teenager, and initially looked into becoming a physical therapist. When her mother encouraged her to look into nursing, she reluctantly agreed. She knew the difficulties of a nursing career from her sister who was twelve years older and a nurse, and she wasn't sure she was cut out for it. Renee soon found that she liked the nursing course material. After working in various nursing specialties, she developed a passion for education during a stint as a home care nurse which involved patient education. Accepting a gig as a clinical instructor was her first step on the path towards a career in nursing education. As for one of the most significant experiences of her nursing education career, Renee cites an experience she had in Nursing academia. She recalls the first academic class that she taught, where she was shocked to see that most students used laptops or other devices instead of notebooks. This was when she saw the impact and necessity of integrating ed tech in Nursing Education. Renee often includes interactive activities such as polls, games, and group presentations into her nursing education learning environment. Simply “spewing” information does not work, according to her. Instead, educators must be brave enough to switch from the traditional passive “lecturing” mindset, towards engaging their students in active learning. Educational technology can be a marvelous tool to aid active learning. Instead of telling students to shut off their mobile devices during class, Renee uses these mobile devices in her activities. Her classes are often interrupted by polls using the Polls Everywhere software. She sometimes implements a flipped classroom model where students are expected to read up beforehand on a topic, and come to class prepared to present on it, or discuss it. Besides Polls Everywhere, Renee recommends other educational software and apps such as Mentimeter for polling and presentations, and Voice Thread and Flipgrid for real-time video discussions between students and teachers. She also recommends Google products such as Google Slides and Google Docs which allow real-time edits. Although Renee has extensive experience in Education, rather than a clinical setting, she believes that active learning techniques can be implemented in a clinical education setting as well. She cites pre and post-conference meetings, where instructors might give students assignments as good opportunities to incorporate interactive techniques. However, she acknowledges that when actual clinical activities are occurring, it might not be feasible to focus on active learning, because the focus will be patient care. Renee knows that the major hurdle in incorporating active learning techniques and education technology in healthcare education, is not that instructors simply refuse to change. Rather, the instructors get overwhelmed by the novelty and difficulty of trying something new. She affirms Chase’s recommendation that instructors learn one educational software at a time, maybe once a week or once a month, so as to not get overwhelmed. More broadly, Renee wants to see more openness towards educational technology. Even as she speaks at national conferences, she often has to use presentation applications such as PowerPoint instead of other web-based presentation products, due to WiFi not being guaranteed-she thinks this is an area that needs to be addressed,  especially in 2020. The good news first: Head of police chiefs' group Terry Cunningham publicly apologizes for "historical mistreatment of communities of color." Mind-boggling! A former NYPD detective testifies that he helped jail an innocent man. Justice Dept say the poor can't be held in jail when they can't afford bail. Just in time for Election Day, Virginia gave 67,000 ex-felons their voting rights back. This is huge! The bad news: On October 21, Renee Davis, a pregnant citizen of the Muckleshoot Indian tribe, was shot to death in her own home on the reservation. The police claim they were called there to help. NYPD officer who shot and killed 66 year old mentally ill Deborah Danner was sued twice before for abuse of power. Kansas cites the overturned Dred Scot case to make the case for its overturned abortion law. Last Sunday, police brutalized and pepper sprayed peaceful Native American protestors who were praying for an end to the Dakota Access Pipeline, arresting 83 of them. A female activist was said to be beaten and put naked into a holding cell. Human rights lawyers filed a lawuit against the FBI and the Dept of Homeland Security last Thursday for records showing the surveillance of Black Lives Matter activists. All this and more.
