Give to help Chris continue making Truce A small group of men calling themselves The New Right had a major role to play in bonding some evangelicals to the Republican Party. Yet many Christians don't know who these guys were or how they used money and influence to accomplish their goal. Let's meet the fellas. One was named Paul Weyrich. Weyrich's contribution to the movement is that he knew how to organize people, a skill he learned from watching liberal protests. He was a former radio newsman from Wisconsin, member of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church when he thought the Roman Catholic Church became too liberal. He saw how liberals were organizing in the US and decided to do something similar with conservatives. The goal was to bring together politicians, activists, money, and the press to have a unified front. Organizational skills were his secret weapon. Howard Phillips was a follower of RJ Rushdoony's Christian Reconstruction plan. He gutted the Office of Economic Opportunity for Richard Nixon and then founded a think tank called The Conservative Caucus. He said "we organize discontent" meaning that the New Right used emotional issues to rile up their base. Then there was Richard Viguerie. He was the king of bulk mail. The New Right used his services to advocate for their kind of politicians, for Anita Bryant, and to raise money. His company RAVCO was investigated for fraud. These men and more were vital in bringing some evangelicals into the Republican Party. Our guest today is Rick Perlstein, author of amazing history books like Reaganland and The Invisible Bridge. Trump. On that journey, the author rips away patriotic and pious rhetoric to expose venality and scamming, from the Nixon and Reagan administrations to the Moral Majority, the Christian Coalition, and the Tea Party, which eventually gave rise to the MAGA movement - and doesn't hesitate to identify the most dubious characters, including Roger Stone; Jerry Falwell, senior and junior; as well as Paul Manafort, Richard Viguerie, Terry Dolan, and a list long enough to fill a small city's phone book.Conason weaves a fascinating story of these partisan con artists who ply their seamy trade while stoking political animosity and even hatred, all for personal profit. The epitome and master of this phenomenon is Trump himself, whose rise to power - along with his allies and family - represents a celebration of trickery. Give to help the Truce Podcast Thomas McIntyre stood before the US Congress to deliver a moving speech. The man was being hounded by a fringe movement known as the New Right. The movement came from the work of men like Paul Weyrich, Howard Phillips, and Richard Viguerie. Their goal was to disrupt the Republican Party. They wanted to do away with much of the federal government and program to help the poor while simultaneously cutting taxes and increasing the military. They hoped to accomplish this by controlling direct mail. Direct mail! It sounds silly, but by inundating voters and congressional offices with bulk mail they could control the story. Men like McIntyre and Senator Mark Hatfield didn't know what to do with this influx of petty politics. Someone had even gone so far as to question Hatfield's Christian salvation just because of how we was going to vote on the Panama Canal treaty. What does giving the Panama Canal back to Panama have to do with salvation? Almost nothing. Today, we're going to explore this wacky phenomenon where we call something "Christian" or "biblical" if it fits out politics not if it is addressed in the Bible. How are we being manipulated by propaganda like this? And what can we do about it? Discussion Questions: Was the United States responsible in its claiming the Panama Canal as a territory? Are there things in your life that you mix with Christianity? How have your politics gotten confused with your faith? Does the Bible have anything to say on the Panama Canal treaty? https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/15/opinion/abortion-evangelicals-conservatives.html Thomas B. Edsall writes: Whites who score high on measures of racial resentment and racial grievance are far more likely to support strict limits on abortion than whites who score low on these measures. This is part of a larger picture in which racial attitudes are increasingly linked with opinions on a wide range of disparate issues including social welfare issues, gun control, immigration and even climate change. The fact that opinions on all of these issues are now closely interconnected and connected with racial attitudes is a key factor in the deep polarization within the electorate that contributes to high levels of straight ticket voting and a declining proportion of swing voters. Some of the scholars and journalists studying the evolving role of abortion in American politics make the case that key leaders of the conservative movement in the late 1970s and early 1980s — among them Richard Viguerie, Paul Weyrich, Phyllis Schlafly and Jerry Falwell Sr. — were seeking to expand their base beyond those opposed to the civil rights movement. According to this argument, conservative strategists settled on a concerted effort to politicize abortion in part because it dodged the race issue and offered the opportunity to unify conservative Catholics and Evangelicals. “The anti-abortion movement has been remarkably successful at convincing observers that the positions individuals take on the abortion issue always follow in a deductive way from their supposed moral principles. They don't,” Katherine Stewart, the author of the 2019 book “The Power Worshipers,” wrote in an email. In 1978, the hostile reaction to an I.R.S. proposal to impose taxes on churches running segregated private schools (“seg academies” for the children of white Southerners seeking to avoid federally mandated school integration orders) provided the opportunity to mobilize born again and evangelical parishioners through the creation of the Moral Majority. As Stewart argues, Viguerie, Weyrich and others on the right were determined to find an issue that could bring together a much larger constituency. This, of course, should come as no surprise given that conspiratorial mutterings about globalist elites hellbent on destroying the United States of America has become a hallmark of Trump's base. In fact, one can find ideations of a paranoid variety amongst rather visible elements of the American right-wing going back to the day of Senator Joe McCarthy and the Red Scare as well as in right-wing media outlets and organizations like WorldNetDaily and the John Birch Society. Even prior to Trump, figures like Alex Jones and Jerome Corsi promoted what historian Richard Hofstadter referred to as "The Paranoid Style in American Politics". In the 1990's, the militia and "Patriot" movement were driven by fears that the Clinton administration, specifically after Ruby Ridge and Waco, would usher in draconian martial law with the help of agencies like FEMA or, in some theories, the United Nations. Interestingly, then First Lady Hillary Clinton was roundly mocked at this time for offering a paranoid alternative to the right's vision of dystopia being ushered in by her husband. There existed, she said, a "vast right wing conspiracy" to undermine Bill Clinton's Presidency. This, of course, was roundly mocked as the delusional rantings of a "moonbat" or "wingnut". But was Clinton's accusation completely unfounded? Has the American right-wing been projecting when it lobs allegations of unpatriotic and sinister plots against Democrats and the Left? Veteran journalist Anne Nelson makes the case in her new book, Shadow Network: Media, Money, and the Secret Hub of the Radical Right, that the American Right, specifically through a sorely underdiscussed and shadowy organization, has been engaging in a certain kind of subterfuge that isn't far off from being a "vast right wing conspiracy". In this explosive new book Nelson, whose journalistic exploits includes covering the U.S. support of right-wing death squads in El Salvador during the Reagan Presidency, details the under-the-radar machinations of the Council for National Policy. Modeled as a conservative equivalent to the Council on Foreign Relations, a favorite target of right-wing paranoia, the CNP claims 501(c) 3 status. But, as Nelson notes, the CNP operates in a completely different way than the CFR. According to Nelson, it acts as a network that connects the right's ideologues to the money people that can fund their movements. Anne Nelson joins us on this edition of Parallax Views to tell the whole story of how this organization has sought to undermine democratic processes in the USA for decades. Among the topics covered: How three figures, Paul Weyrich, Morton Blackwell, and Richard Viguerie came together to help form the CNP with evangelical pastor and bestselling author of the Left Behind series Tim LaHaye as its President; Weyrich's curious comments on voting and the electoral majority; Viguerie's book Takeover: The 100-Year War for the Soul of the GOP and How Conservatives Can Finally Win It and the comments contained within it concerning Hillary Clinton's accusations of a "vast right wing conspiracy". - Putting the CNP in context; the war between supporters of the Barry Goldwater campaign and "Rockefeller Republicans" in the era before the CNP's founding; the Southern Baptist Church purges that preluded that CNP's founding; the arch-conservative Phyllis Schlafly, now the subject of the FX TV drama Mrs. America. - The Democratic Party's failures, including the neglect of "Fly Over Country" and the decay of the New Deal Coalition, that Anne criticizes in the book for leaving the CNP with a base to propagandize. - How the CNP ties into the U.S. support of death squads in El Salvador. - The CNP and the media; how the decline of media, journalism, and newspapers has created a fertile environment for the CNP's propaganda efforts; the deleterious effects of Ronald Reagan rolling back the Fairness Doctrine. - How connected are the Koch Bros. to the CNP?; how much of the CNP's agenda is driven by its financial backer's desire profits rather than religious beliefs of its idealogues? - The CNP vs. the CFR; the CNP's 501(c) 3 status - The CNP in the era of Donald Trump; the CNP's initial support of Ted Cruz over Donald Trump; the deal that the CNP cut with the Trump Presidency; the CNP's connections to the coronavirus pandemic through "America's Frontline Doctors" and Dr. [CENSORED] as outlined in her new Washington Spectator piece "Anatomy of Deception: Team Trump Deploys Doctors to Push Fake Cure for COVID" (see: hydroxychloroquine). Expert copywriter Clayton Makepeace is our guest for this special episode of The Copywriter Club Podcast. If there were a list of the world’s most successful (and highly paid) copywriters, Clayton would have a place near or at the top. He’s the kind of expert worth listening to if you want to succeed as a copywriter (and especially if you want to write financial copy). Here’s what we covered in our discussion: •  how Clayton went from running a folding machine to his first copy assignment •  what he learned working in the film industry that applies to copywriting •  how he went from employee to starting his own copy agency •  the raw truth about why he became a copywriter •  what he did to improve his skills early on (and the mentors he found) •  how he went from unknown to the copywriter everyone wanted to work with •  what he did to succeed that copywriters can model today •  the storytelling secret he learned from an old coin •  where you get the best criticism for your copy (it’s not a copy chief) •  Clayton’s thoughts on how you get a prospect to read past page one •  the process he uses with his team today to create a package •  why you need a stick as well as a carrot in your copy •  why leading with a big benefit might not be the best option •  the two ways to overcome objections •  specifics versus abstractions and why one works better in copy •  when you should present the expert’s bio on a sales page •  the “bars on the beach” reason he starts working at 4 am •  the financial copywriting training he’s working on right now We knew this interview would be great the minute we booked it, but the advice Clayton shared was even better than we expected. Darrell Castle talks about the war for the survival of America, the rule of law, and Western Civilization that is now being waged with Judge Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court as one of the battle fronts. Transcription / Notes CHARACTER ASSASSINATION IS A TACTIC OF WAR Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report.  Today is Friday, September 21, 2018, and on today's Report I will be talking about the war that is currently being waged for the control of this nation and its people.  The goals of the combatants in this war are often blurry but the goal of the side that I represent is to preserve as much of the founding principles of this nation as possible, as well as those of Western Civilization and the rule of law.   The goal of the other side but appears to be the destruction of the things I am fighting to preserve.  To this point the war for control of the nation and the future of the nation's 330 million people is mostly a cold one, although that seems poised to change at any minute. War normally brings casualties and lots of them, and this one is no different.  One of the casualties is Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court.  Today's Report will use the battle surrounding Judge Kavanaugh's nomination as an opportunity to discuss the war itself.  Please keep in mind that the real issue is not how Judge Kavanaugh treated women when he was in high school 36 years ago.  The real issue is Judge Kavanaugh's conservative view of the Constitution when he is on the bench today. A war of survival is a war of desperation, and the closer one side comes to losing the more desperate that side will be.  Both sides might respect a set of rules for “civilized warfare”, such as the Geneva Convention, until one starts to prevail and then its gloves off for the other.  Losing means the loss of everything that side holds dear for itself and for future generations, so the rules no longer apply. The Democrats have tried very hard to destroy freedom in America.  I say that with some doubt but it is true from at least one standpoint; we are no longer free to say or even think whatever we want without suffering the most dire consequences.  That seems to be one of the Democrat goals then, to make only expression and thought that they agree with legally and socially possible.  Despite holding all the high ground in the battlefront, such as the media high ground, the education high ground, the Silicon Valley high ground, and the high ground of Hollywood, they can see that they do not yet control a majority of America and their control of America's future is weakening.  This slipping of their control came about because of the election of Donald Trump and his unique opportunity to appoint two and possibly more Supreme Court Justices, thus swinging the ideological scale back toward the side that elected Trump to do just that. Since there is no honest reason to reject Judge Kavanaugh, dishonest ones must be devised. Character assassination is one dishonest tactic that should be expected, after all, in war it's quite a common tactic to use.  When one has no ammunition to win a debate honestly, then one will usually resort to a personal attack against the opponent.  Should we be surprised then when Judge Kavanaugh has his character assassinated, and his reputation damaged or destroyed by people who have no character but do have a lot to lose. The headline in my friend Richard Viguerie's article read, “Democrats Ruthlessly Destroy Bret Kavanaugh”.  Richard then went on to point out that this judge is a man of the highest honor and reputation and all that has been damaged or destroyed by this groundless attack.  All true, and he has also been vetted more than any Supreme Court nominee certainly in recent years.  The FBI has conducted half a dozen background checks without any notice of misconduct, but now the Democrats insist that a new investigation be conducted by the FBI,

Darrell Castle talks about the murder of 20 year old Mollie Tibbetts and asks the question, who else besides her alleged murderer is  responsible for her death. Transcription/Notes THE LIFE AND DEATH OF MOLLIE TIBBETTS Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report.  Today is Friday, August 31, 2018, and on today's Report, I will be talking about Mollie Tibbetts' life and death.  Mollie was a 20 year old sophomore at the University of Iowa who went out for a jog on July 18 of this year, and was never seen alive again.  Local authorities, aided by the concern of local Iowa people, searched high and low for her with nothing to show for it.  A reward of almost $400,000 was raised and offered for information about where she might be. Finally, authorities located a farmer with a farm about an hour from the small community of Brooklyn, Iowa where Mollie lived.  For some reason he had set up surveillance video cameras around his farm amid the thousands of acres of cornfields and along the roads.  It didn't take long to spot Mollie on camera running down an Iowa road with a strange car following her.  The driver stopped and forced her into the trunk of his car.  Her body was found in a field a short time later, so she was kidnapped and murdered and who knows what else.  A preliminary autopsy revealed that she was stabbed to death. Cristhian Bahena-Rivera, an illegal alien from Mexico, has been charged with her murder.  Mr. Rivera confessed to the murder and took authorities to Mollie's body but he said he “blacked out” and didn't remember anything about it.  We know then who stabbed Mollie, but is anyone else responsible for her death? Richard Viguerie, in his publication Conservative HQ, said it best.  “The brutal murder of Brooklyn, Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts casts a harsh and inescapable light on exactly who is responsible for this senseless killing, and from our perspective Cristhian Bahena-Rivera, whom the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has named as her alleged murderer, as the means of her death, the real killers are the politicians who keep our borders open and who continue protecting illegal aliens, especially those with criminal histories. Mollie Tibbetts was killed so that somebody in Iowa could have cheap labor, and she was killed so that the Business Roundtable, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the rest of Washington—Wall Street—Silicon Valley Axis, could hit this quarter's earnings target, and most shamefully, she was killed so that virtue-signaling liberal politicians could get re-elected, and because their bootlickers in the media and their urban elite supporters in the gated communities and the security-doored co-ops and condos feel superior to her, and the other victims like her, and don't think their lives are worth protecting.” Whatever the reason, Mollie is still dead, and her death gives us a chance to look at several aspects of the immigration system that passes laws against illegal entry into the United States and then welcomes the violators with open arms.  Mollie's town of Brooklyn, Iowa was surrounded by sanctuary cities and counties, but on July 1st, just two weeks before her disappearance, the Iowa state legislature passed a law revoking state funding for sanctuary cities and counties in the state.  Two weeks too late and too little for Mollie Tibbetts. Mr. Rivera apparently used a fake or stolen photo ID and a fraudulent Social Security card to get a job at a local dairy farm.  The dairy farm owner admits he did not use E-Verify to check Mr. Rivera's eligibility for employment.  Mr. Rivera, illegally in the United States for 7 years, actually fathered his own anchor baby by one of Mollie's former classmates.  Since the baby was born in the U.S., according to our current bizarre interpretation of the 14th amendment, the baby is a U.S. citizen. The arrest of Mr. Rivera caused him to be separated from his child, and if convicted he will be separated from the child for many yea...

In the late 1970's and early 1980's, right-wing political operatives — like Richard Viguerie, Paul Weyrich, Kevin Phillips, and Terry Dolan—engineered a political takeover of the evangelical movement. This was a radical hijacking of the message of Jesus Christ. Ten years earlier, the movement that became Sojourners was born at an evangelical seminary, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago. We preached the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is transforming both personally and socially — a holistic message aimed to change our lives and the world. In 1973, I worked with Evangelicals for Social Action in a gathering Ron Sider convened, again in Chicago, which produced a document called the "Chicago Declaration of Evangelical Social Concern." In that declaration, we acknowledged the sins of racism and classism and called for repentance. We were hailed as the “young evangelicals” in a “new evangelical” movement. Now, 45 years later, another meeting of 50 fairly diverse leaders met at Wheaton College, a historic evangelical site, to pray and discern together the future of evangelicalism in the U.S. When Fox News, Breitbart, and CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) launched coordinated coverage of the meeting as “ Trump bashing,” featuring the Trump evangelical advisers to the president, you knew the meeting hit a nerve. This disturbing distinction clearly demonstrates the evangelical backsliding we have experienced since the publication of the Chicago Declaration. We are now engaged in “spiritual warfare,” as described in our Scriptures. We don't finally put our trust in politics, but in God who will win with the long arc of the universe that “bends toward justice” as Dr. King reminded us. I only made one comment at the end of the Wheaton meeting when I said, “I have been listening as I hope you all have been too. The question this meeting is asking about the future of evangelicalism has been answered by the voices of color and women in this room. They are pointing us to the evangel, the good news Jesus said he would bring to the poor in his opening statement in Luke 4. That's our future, let's listen.”As one of the white evangelical leaders in the Wheaton meeting had said to me before, “American evangelicalism is destroying the evangel.” Now is the time for the evangel to turn white evangelicalism in America upside down.
