Today we dive deep into Idle Hands (1999), a dark comedy that blends stoner humor, supernatural horror, and teenage rebellion into one twisted package. Directed by Rodman Flender, the film follows Anton, a slacker high schooler whose right hand becomes possessed by an evil force, turning it into a murderous, rogue appendage with a mind of its own.We discuss how Idle Hands became a cult classic despite its initial mixed reception, exploring its quirky tone, memorable performances, and how it balances horror and comedy in a way few films from the '90s managed to pull off. From Devon Sawa's portrayal of Anton to Seth Green and Elden Henson's roles as his bumbling stoner friends, we analyze what made the film stand out—especially in a decade where horror-comedy was still finding its footing. We'll also chat about the film's blend of gore, humor, and coming-of-age angst, and why Idle Hands remains a beloved oddball entry in the genre. Whether you love it or hate it, there's no denying the lasting impact this weirdly wonderful film has had on horror fans and pop culture.Join us for a fun and dismembered look at Idle Hands—the film that proves sometimes the most dangerous thing in the world is a lazy, possessed hand.
Comedians Doug Uram & Cam Leedy join Zac Amico this week to try their hand at a fantastic 90's horror comedy! A teenaged Anton (Devon Sawa) is diverted from his lifestyle of marijuana and cartoons when his right hand becomes possessed by a murderous demon, leading him to do things he never would. From killing his own parents, to fumbling his way into the good graces of his very attractive neighbor Molly (Jessica Alba), Anton must fight tooth and fingernail to vanquish the entity. With plenty of laughs, gore, and exciting cameo performances (Seth Green, Vivica A. Fox, and more), this movie has its finger on the pulse of the 1990's. "Idle Hands," a 1999 horror-comedy film directed by Rodman Flender, is a delightful departure from traditional horror movies. It stars Devon Sawa as Anton, a teenager whose life takes a bizarre turn when his right hand becomes possessed by an evil force, leading to a string of gruesome murders. What sets this film apart is its clever blend of horror and humor. The plot revolves around Anton, a slacker with no ambition, whose life unravels as his malevolent hand embarks on a murder spree. The dark and absurd humor prevalent throughout the film is one of its defining features. "Idle Hands" doesn't take itself too seriously, embracing its own absurdity and delivering a polarizing experience. While some viewers may find the campy and unconventional nature of the film entertaining, others might be put off by its graphic violence and occasional juvenile humor. Over the years, "Idle Hands" has garnered a cult following, primarily because of its unique fusion of horror and comedy. While it may not be considered a cinematic masterpiece, it provides a refreshing and unconventional take on the horror genre. Devon Sawa's portrayal of the unwitting and hapless Anton further contributes to the film's charm. "Idle Hands" is a film that caters to those with a taste for dark humor and a willingness to embrace its absurdity. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's a worthwhile watch for those seeking a different and somewhat offbeat horror-comedy experience.
In this episode, we continue our October celebration with more films set on or around Halloween. This time Dustin's pick takes us to the end of the 90s for Rodman Flender's cult horror comedy Idle Hands. Dustin finds it hard to struggle against his love for the movie and trying to give anything close to an objective take. Meanwhile, Jason offers a more grounded view praising where the film succeeds, but questioning some of its stumbling moments. This leads us to briefly discuss the idea of pet movies: the films you can't help but love even despite their flaws. And so much more! It's Halloween all month over here at the BSFS studio and we couldn't be more excited! We're starting the spooky season off with 1999's extremely stonerific horror/comedy, Idle Hands . Starring Devon Sawa, Jessica Alba, Seth Green, Vivica A. Fox, and Elden (Foggy) Henson.
It's time to get handsy this week on the Devil's Work! PsydeShow's pick is the 1999 horror comedy cult classic Idle Hands, directed by Rodman Flender! And we're joined by a very special guest, Brannon of The John Candy! With their particularly fun brand of metal (dubbed “nostalgia-core”), they emit the same energy as this film: chaotic, familiar, and hilarious. Anton is your stereotypical, trashy high school burnout: he smokes weed every day (we see nothing wrong there), he hangs out with his friends, his hand gets possessed by a demon and murders people, he has a crush on the girl next door. You know, high school stuff. There's an argument to be made here that this is the stoner horror comedy to end all stoner horror comedies, but that might be the nostalgia bias talking. Star studded cast, excellent physical acting/practical effects, and no moral compass. Need we say more?! A sobering reminder of why Jessica Alba became a superstar after this. Hint: It's not her acting chops. Got a suggestion? Email us at houseof1000horrors@gmail.com. We'll get around to it eventually.
In this, the scariest of seasons, we decided to soften the spookiness with two horror films that lean into the funnier side of the holiday. We start off with 1999's "Ernest, Scared Stupid" from director John Cherry and starring the late great Jim Varney in the role that made him a star. It's a sweet-tempered movie aimed at a younger crowd, but at least two of us found it completely charming. We follow that up with 1999's "Idle Hands" from Rodman Flender and featuring a great cast of young actors turning in impressive comedic performances. There's also top-notch makeup effects and some very grisly moments, but we also get to see Jessica Alba in her underwear, so things are definitely balanced. We then launch into our roundtable discussion of the other things we've seen lately. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. You can email us at flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. You can also reach us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Hack to School month continues with Idle Hands from our hosts' awkward adolescence, and yours too (probably). The film was directed by Rodman Flender, who had a tremendous amount of restraint in taking the chance to reshoot the entire ending to ensure that it was tonally accurate to the remainder of the film. Idle Hands was written by Terri Hughes and Ron Milbauer. The team started with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and have gone on to write and produce tons of content. We talk about all of the uhm... influences? that the film relied on, perhaps too heavily in some ways, including most famously An American Werewolf in London. *Cough* Seth Green is basically just Jack, but also really good *cough* Devon Sawa plays Anton Tobias, who perhaps is named after Anton Levay... perhaps. Seth Green plays Mick alongside Elden Henson as Pnub. The team embody stoners as well as Jay and Silent Bob and spookiness as well as Reaper, Deadbeat, and even Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Vivica A. Fox is violent, beautiful hand-hunter, Debi LeCure. She aligns herself with Jack Noseworthy as Randy, the heavy metal heart throb, or whatever. This week on Total Movie Recall, Steve and Ryan wonder why kids are scared of the stupidest boogeymen. The Leprechaun haunted Ryan for his entire childhood, waiting in dark corners, making it unable for him to pee in the middle of the night. If only he had watched the movie when he was seven years old, and seen how stupid, unscary, unwitty, and half-assed this boring, lazy movie is, he wouldn't have wasted another second being scared. The Leprechaun can't even be bothered to turn limericks into dirty rhymes. Nantucket! It rhymes itself! Leprechaun (1993) d. Mark Jones Starring: Warwick Davis Jennifer Aniston Ken Olandt Dan O'Grady steals 100 gold coins from a leprechaun while on vacation in Ireland. Um, so, this movie happened. This week we watched the second movie in the Leprechaun series, the oh so cleverly titled, “Leprechaun 2.” We were pretty disappointed that the Leprechaun didn’t showcase any of his thespian roots in this one but we did learn that he is a dentist so, he’s really a trick of all trades. Join us as we discuss terrible, terrible acting, our love for gold and caves, and leprechaun anatomy. Be sure to rate and subscribe or we’ll make you sneeze three times, thus becoming wed to a leprechaun. Stats/info: 1994, directed by Rodman Flender, starring Warwick Davis, Shevonne Durkin, Charlie Heath, and Sandy Baron (Intro music from https://www.free-stock-music.com)

We Lepre-can’t believe that it is St. Patrick’s Day weekend and we’re celebrating with our first legacy film, LEPRECHAUN 2 (aka One Wedding and Lots of Funerals)! Directed by Rodman Flender and starring Warwick Davis, Shevonne Durkin, Charlie Heath & Sandy Baron, this follow-up has little in common with the first film and isn’t even as fun. Warwick Davis does his best to carry the movie but it ends up being a boring mess with some unfortunate sets that don’t hold up. We talk the movie then learn about the skeleton puppeteer and what the original plan for the film and its sequel were. Did you have your iron today?

We're back from a mini vacation and I gotta say, we needed a vacation from this vacation! The theme for this week was POSSESSION and you fans all agreed that we needed to watch the stoner horror teen comedy IDLE HANDS. Idle Hands (1999) dir. Rodman Flender. Seventeen year old slacker Anton Tobias wakes up one Halloween morning to discover that both of his parents have been turned into two headless Halloween decorations. After speaking to his equally irresponsible friends, Mick and Pnub, he discovers that his right hand has a blood-thirsty mind of its own and is hell-bent on wreaking havoc whether he likes it or not. In Episode 14, Alex, Clíona & Sean tackle Rodman Flender's 1994 horror comedy sequel Leprechaun 2.
Steve Cooper talks with actor/comic Erica Rhodes. Erica Rhodes started her entertainment career by voicing the conscience of legendary humorist and writer, Garrison Keillor on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion and has worked on that show ever since. In 2012, she also became a writer for the show when it toured Houston, NYC and San Francisco. She starred in the cult horror film Plague Town and recently wrapped a supporting role in Play Nice, directed by Rodman Flender and starring Mary Lynn Rajskub. She also starred in Big Sky, an indie road trip movie that followed a young couple's journey from L.A. to Montana. She co-created and starred in the award-winning web series Apt. 45, but is probably best known for the character of Sandy in Iron Sink Media's web series Upstairs Girls and her own hit spin-off Sandy's Channel. She produced and starred (with Ray Wise and Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland) in the short film Posey which premiered at the 2013 Idyllwild Cinema Fest and made the festival rounds, garnering many awards. She was also nominated by the 2015 Los Angeles Short Film Festival as "Best Actress" for her work in The Platinum Plan. Recent TV credits include Fox's New Girl, IFC's Comedy Bang Bang and Comedy Central's Why? With Hannibal Buress. She has also guested on The Howard Stern Wrap-up Show on Sirius XM after being named on his site as number one of the top nine comics to watch and has had appearances on AXS' Live at Gotham and the syndicated Comics Unleashed.
