Jason Horton is my first guest this week. Jason is with the Michigan Bowfishing Association. He talks about the appeal of that sport and how to get started. “Mr. Angler Quest“, Brad Dupuie is up next. He has an update on the progress toward coming out with his own line of fishing pontoons. Hour two features “Uncle Ted”, the “Whackmaster” Ted Nugent. Ted talks about the role of hunting today and how the Fred Bear song came to be. Chad Fedewa from the Michigan DNR is up next. He talks about the springtime whitetail fawning season. The hour wraps up with this week's “Ask Avery” segment. The question is answer by Sgt. Mark Papineau of the DNR. We're talking fishing in Hour 3 with Lance Valentine of Teachin Fishin. Lance is wrapping up his season on the Detroit River and heading north to Saginaw Bay for the summer trolling season. Next, Justin Tomei from MUCC joins me with an update out of Lansing. We also talk about the charity golf outing in July to benefit their Youth Camp. "There's a lot of male yelling..."  This week on VPR, Scheana and Brock are on the rocks, Katie is a sexy gem, and Sandoval is throwing stones. And on The Valley, there's a distressing defecation (marine biologists please weigh in on this one). Amanda and Ann discuss it all! Then they talk to fellow VPR podcaster and comedian Jason Horton about his time at E! “If he had HR, he'd be fucked.” This VPR episode is a doozy for our dear Ann. She's "professional and prepared," but she's also fired (or is she?!). There's a kitchen interview (that leads to an outburst about Ann), a sparkling water tasting party (where the VPR gang inquires about and then Ariana and Tom fight about Ann), and then a cursed beach day (during which another argument breaks out about Ann). Mercury is in fact in retrograde. Ann is here to share her side of the story and Amanda is here to defend her friend to the ends of the Earth."SECOND of all," the gals sit down with Rebecca Leib (42:06), former celebrity psychic's assistant and current ghost girlie. She shares some of her favorite anecdotes from her support staff jobs, including a game show hosted by Jane Lynch and a ghost hunting show that had her stay at an extremely creepy haunted mansion while tipsy. They also talk about how teeny tiny Lala, Ariana, and celebrities in general are in real life. Before class is dismissed, they play a new game, “True Crime, Fake Crime,” (1:24:36) and tell a truly unhinged tale about Taylor Armstrong of Real Housewives fame and her imagined untimely death by candle. If you don't understand it, you're paying attention.Rebecca's plugs:If you want more Rebecca in your ears, you're in luck! On this episode of Hustle Inspires Hustle, Alex Quin interviews Jason Horton, a director, writer, and producer who has been making movies since 2003. Jason explains the importance of luck, hard work, and creativity in filmmaking, as well as the need to understand when to step away from a project and move on. He also discusses the importance of paid advertising, such as using Facebook and Instagram ads, as well as influencers on platforms like Instagram and Facebook.Wisdom NuggetsImportance of Luck and Hard Work: Jason emphasizes that while luck plays a role in filmmaking, it is crucial to combine it with hard work. Filmmakers need to constantly hustle and create opportunities for themselves.Multitasking and Learning Multiple Skills: Jason advises filmmakers to learn multiple tasks themselves, such as editing, to save costs and have more control over their projects. Being versatile and adaptable is key in the independent filmmaking industry.Paid Advertising for Movies: Jason highlights the significance of paid advertising, particularly through platforms like Facebook and Instagram ads. Utilizing influencers on social media can also help reach a wider audience and generate more interest in the film.Choosing the Right Distributor: Filmmakers should carefully consider their options when selecting a distributor. Jason recommends distributors like FilmHub and Indy Rights for starting filmmakers, as they have no upfront fees and take a 20% back end split. It is important to be cautious of distributors that may take a higher percentage and charge additional fees.Challenges of International Distribution: Jason discusses the challenges faced by independent filmmakers when it comes to international distribution. He suggests registering an LLC for each project and obtaining proper release forms for everyone involved in the film, whether paid or unpaid. Additionally, he advises against relying solely on fair use in documentaries, as it may not provide sufficient legal protection.Power Quotes"Luck plays a role, but you have to combine it with hard work. You have to hustle and create opportunities for yourself." - Jason Horton"Learn multiple tasks yourself. Learn how to edit, learn how to do sound design, learn how to do color correction. It saves you money and gives you more control." - Jason Horton"Creativity is key. You have to stay creative and manage all these moving pieces in filmmaking." - Alex QuinMeet our guesthttps://www.instagram.com/thejhortonhttps://www.tiktok.com/@thejhortonhttps://twitter.com/thejhortonhttps://www.imdb.com/name/nm1862032/https://youtube.com/@JHorton*This page may contain affiliate links or sponsored content. Somewhere between the Hollywood sign and the Pacific Ocean, underneath the palm trees and above the crowded highways, there they are. You may have seen one in your favorite movie, or walked by one a thousand times. They're the landmarks, buildings, storefronts, and vintage signs that are part of what make LA and its surroundings so iconic. Not only can you see the history of Los Angeles, you can see history. Every historic location, abandoned storefront, and vintage sign is a lesson in LA's past. Among the flickering neon portraits are essays, anecdotes, and stories from artists, writers, actors, and musicians about their own personal LA. Take a journey to the towns, cities, and neighborhoods that define Los Angeles culture, one photo at a time. Author Jason Horton discusses his new book, Abandoned and Historic Los Angeles: Neon and Beyond with writer and comedian Rebecca Leib. ________________________________________________ Produced by Maddie Gobbo & Michael Kowaleski Theme: "I Love All My Friends," a new, unreleased demo by Fragile Gang. When someone has achieved success, people don’t see the things that ran behind. The thoughts that came across that person’s mind, or the rocky roads he/she has to overcome. In reality, though a person’s facade may hide it, behind that success is a lot of trial and error. For this episode, we will meet Jason Horton — the founder and podcast host of Ghost Town Podcast which currently has 136 episodes. He started his YouTube channel doing comedy videos and now he has built a 130k subscribers over time. Jason also has a Facebook page with over 170k followers, Instagram and Twitter accounts which both garnered 28k and 21k followers, respectively. Recently, Tik Tok has been a boredom killer around the globe — all regions, races, ages, and gender are using Tik Tok nowadays. And Jason is one of them. You can also check out his Tik Tok account with over 14M likes and over 500k followers. Jason, as a kid, loved comedy itself. Way back in high school, he has experience doing theater plays. And the insane amount of experience in sketch & live comedy across the country has enabled him to find this passion and excitement to show up in the social media world.  “And I realized I needed my own content, not just being part of somebody else’s content, which is great. But you need to have your own content. So you could get some of that equity, I guess.” But things weren’t smoothly running. Jason, at some point, has undergone self-deprecating. But it didn’t stop him from moving forward. He’s met a YouTuber friend who got 2 million views eating a cheeseburger — and at that moment, he started to ask “why is this a thing? Why are they watching that? Can I do that and bring people to me?” Sometimes, those questions we ask of ourselves are our stepping stone to do what we wanted to from the start. It’s just somehow concealed by our fear and self-doubt. Well, Jason believed he could do it. And so he started putting himself out there. “It really doesn’t matter what the numbers are as long as you enjoy doing it. But if you put work into something, you want the most amount of people to at least give it a shot.” People who are afraid of putting something out there are people who usually think that they’d be bombarded with negative comments, or none would listen to them at all if they come out of the social media world. But for Jason: “Not everyone’s going to love it, in fact, still to this day, I am inundated with negative comments.” But a way to start podcasting or showing yourself to people is to find that passion, that thing that you love doing! Something that excites you every day. Not something that would just produce money for you, but something that would energize your being. Because if money is your gauge, and your “passion” no longer generates income for you, what you’re doing would eventually die.  “Yeah, I would say you know, put out as much stuff as you can. But with that, put your best authentic, real, for better or worse, self into all of those things and let that be the deciding factor… More you, more real. But I’m always encouraging like, there’s a lot of stuff out there and you should be a part of that as much as humanly possible.” Spare some time to pause and think of your “why”. The more genuine you come out to the outside world, the more people would be drawn to listen and check out your content. It doesn’t matter how much your content actually makes sense, but if they saw your excitement towards it, that energy and authenticity would be conveyed to them in many ways you can ever imagine. In this interview, Jason shared how important authenticity, energy, and passion are in sharing who you are to everyone. Jason’s story is inspirational and this episode is definitely worth a listen! Ione, California exists in the shadow of a beautiful castle with a dark history, Preston School of Industry. Built as a school to reform young men on the path to a criminal life, Preston School of Industry was formed with ambition and optimism. Unfortunately, that optimism soon devolved into military drills and harsh punishments. Apart from the general horrors of the facility, violence was rampant and sometimes deadly. The history holds a famous unsolved murder alongside the other mysterious and tragic deaths. Is Preston Castle haunted by the memories of a violent past? Or is it something more sinister?
