Stardust City Rag (Star Trek: Picard, S1 E05) was recommended by Khaki (he/him), who said: After an off-putting opening scene, the episode unfolds into something we get far too little of in Star Trek: a costumed caper! The stakes are high, the emotions are profound and the hats, oh god, the hats!Lauren Rivers she/her, An obsessive Star Trek nerd from Texas., recommended PIC 105 Stardust City Rag, saying:"This episode was just so much fun. Not only did we get to see Picard really ham it up in his undercover disguise, but we got to see Seven of Nine proper for the first time since Voyager ended. It was so exciting to see these characters on screen together, and that alone was just so exciting. This week on Episode 479 of Priority One --- We ‘Trek Out' Star Trek's Emmy Haul, Noah Hawley's shelved Trek plans, Star Trek Universe's New York Comic Con offerings, and Nostalgia at the movies! In Star Trek gaming, Timelines releases “Neither Created Nor Destroyed” and one of our audio editors, Gray, is stepping up to the mic for a look back at Gaming in the Star Trek Multiverse! Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Question Is: CQ: How do you feel about Noah Hawley's Star Trek Film? Do you like the idea of moving away from Kirk and Picard? Do you think Federation Ideals should need to ‘be saved'? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Star Trek's Emmy Showing 2020's Creative Arts Emmy Awards show was a lot like the year itself - unorthodox. The awards ceremony, which ran from September 14th to September 19th,  “honor[ed] outstanding artistic and technical achievement in a variety of television program genres, guest performances in weekly series, as well as exceptional work in the animation, reality and documentary categories.” The awards streamed throughout the week, and aired its final night on FXX ”Virtually-Live”. All nominees were required to pre-record an acceptance speech, the winners being played and the rest discarded. There was even a snafu when announcing the “Guest Actor in a Drama” - Ron Cephas Jones won, but Jason Bateman was announced the winner. Star Trek's showing at the awards was much like the 2020 Creative Arts Emmy Awards Show and 2020 itself - a bit of a letdown. First, the good. On Wednesday September 16th, Trek took home its first Emmy Award. The crew behind “Star Trek: Picard” won the “Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Limited Series, Movie or Special” for it's work on the episode “Stardust City Rag”. The episode faced - and bested - some stiff competition, including  “The Mandalorian” and “ Westworld”. We would like to extend our congratulations to the team for its impressive win. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RM8EVFlRM4 For a full list of the winners, trek out our link to Variety in the show notes at priorityonepodcast.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07HjZKe-0ls Noah Hawley On His Trek Offering We've discussed unmade Star Trek movies Ad nauseam. Whether it's S.J. Clarksons Kelvin IV, Tarantino's piece of the action, or Noah Hawley's recently shelved - and mystery shrouded - Star Trek offering; many many hours of talk have been had about zero hours of visual media. Guess what we're going to do now? No, we're not going to perform the Star Trek theme as a polka. Right? No? No. We're going to talk about unmade Star Trek movies! But this time, we're getting to pull back the veil of Noah Hawley's script thanks to Hawley himself. Get your favorite sauce ready - we've got trek nuggets! On September 15th. Variety released an interview with Hawley, mainly talking about the upcoming fourth season of “Fargo” - of which Hawley created and serves as showrunner. Guess what else came up? No, not Polka Trek? What's with you? He talked about his “in stasis” Star Trek script, saying ”We're not doing Kirk and we're not doing Picard. It's a start from scratch that then allows us to do what we did with ‘Fargo,' where for the first three hours you go, ‘Oh, it really has nothing to do with the movie,' and then you find the money. So you reward the audience with a thing that they love.” Hawley With EW.com Later in the week, on September 18th, Entertainment Weekly released another article with the Writer/creator/showrunner to once again discuss Fargo's fourth season - and Star Trek.  When asked about the script, Hawley explained ”I can't say much about it except it's an argument for why humanity should prevail and why we should come together and unite, which I think is important – to look at the United Federation of Planets and remember at some point Earth is what we are now and then we invented warp technology and met extraterrestrial life and everybody came together. But how? How did we get from where we are now to where they are then? And what happens if that utopian reality is challenged? There are times of challenge and war when we have to prove our values all over again. Maybe there's a time in the Federation where this ideal is challenged and it won't survive on its own. It needs to be saved.” Star Trek Universe's NYCC Plans In episode 473 of Priority One, we talked about the Star Trek cinema shuffle, including Noah Hawley's script rumors. We also discussed the cancellation of New York Comic Con's in-person festivities. This week, ViacomCBS released its plans for the New York Comic Con Metaverse online portal! Starting Thursday October 8th at Noon - and totally ignoring Priority One's production schedule - Star Trek takes the virtual stage with its Star Trek Universe offering. “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and “Star Trek: Discovery” are set to do the heavy lifting, with StarTrek.com saying in part ”Join the creator of Star Trek: Lower Decks, Mike McMahan, and series voice cast for a special edition of CBS All Access' official Star Trek after-show, “The Ready Room,” as they dive into the season one finale with host Wil Wheaton.”. The website continues ”Be the first to learn the latest about Star Trek: Discovery before season three premieres on Thursday, Oct. 15, exclusively on CBS All Access, in Canada on Bell Media's CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave, and on October 16 on Netflix in 188 countries. Join series stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman and Wilson Cruz; new cast members David Ajala, Blu del Barrio and Ian Alexander; and series co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise, for an exclusive conversation on what's in store for the U.S.S. Discovery crew.” If you're interested in trekking out ALL of ReedPop's New York Comic Con offerings, TVLine posted a concise listing of the schedule. We'll link that, and the other articles discussed, in our show notes. CBS Sunday Night Movies Returns If you grew up in the 80's and 90's, you likely had a few VHS tapes of your favorite movies, and some were probably recorded from their broadcast television airings. As such, you probably knew some - or all three - “Night at the Movies” Bumpers! Well break out the VCR, some Keebler Magic Middles Cookies, and your favorite Cabbage Patch Kid - CBS is about to get nostalgic. Sunday Night Movies is making a limited-run comeback! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK0B8jdKKBA In the face of the current epidemic, Viacom CBS has decided to fill some scheduling holes with the old favorite - CBS Sunday Night Movies - using the recently-re-acquired Paramount Pictures library. Starting on October 4th at 9:30-11:30PM  ET/ 9PM-11PM PT with “Old School”, the movies will run for six non-consecutive weeks - with the first four being thematically scheduled for school release and Halloween respectively. Following “Old School” will be “Clueless”, “Ferris Bueller's Day Off”, and “Scream”. “Coming to America” will round out the offerings on November 29th, but the big news - for Star Trek fans, anyway - is that “Star Trek: Beyond” will get it's Broadcast premiere on November 1st 8-11:00 PM, ET/PT! For a link to the full schedule, trek out the link in our show notes! Star Trek Gaming News by Shane Hoover and Thomas Reynolds Star Trek Timelines “Neither Created Nor Destroyed” From September 24th through the 28th, Ferengi, Augments, and Bajorans will destructively interfere with each other in Star Trek Timelines' “Law of Conservation” Galaxy Event. Casey King Interview. When the fifth episode of Star Trek: Picard, “Stardust City Rag,” was released, it immediately became one of the most talked about and controversial episodes in Star Trek's 53-year history. A main focus of the discussion and controversy was the first scene, in which Icheb—returned as a Starfleet officer—suffers a brutal dismemberment and a heart-wrenching death. In this episode of The Line, hosts Chrissie De Clerck-Szilagyi and Justin Oser interview Casey King, who plays Icheb in the episode “Stardust City Rag.” We talk with him about acting in one of the most intense scenes in Star Trek: Picard, working with Jonathan Frakes and Jeri Ryan, the fan reaction to Icheb's death, the backstory he created for the character, and much more! Midseason Supplemental. The first season of Star Trek: Picard has passed the halfway mark, and each episode has led to a lot of discussion. The fifth, “Stardust City Rag,” was particularly controversial, and we wanted to take this opportunity to dive deeper into some of the debates it has generated. In this supplemental episode of The Line, hosts Brandon-Shea Mutala, Justin Oser, and Chrissie De Clerck-Szilagyi debate whether Seven of Nine's actions were justified, ask if the Una McCormack's tie-in novel The Last Best Hope is essential for watching Star Trek: Picard, and explore the differences in the portrayal of sex and violence. AND CQ: What do YOU want Star Trek's next two shows to be? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Bob Bakish Hints at 2 New Trek Shows in the Works ViacomCBS has big plans for streaming. But we'll get to that in a minute, because they ALSO have big plans for Star Trek! In a live-tweeted earnings call held on Thursday February 20th, ViacomCBS Captain - Bob Bakish - said of the IP ”Take Star Trek as an example – a globally enduring franchise that we'll make even bigger. [...] On the heels of Star Trek: Picard on CBS All Access– which broke our records for total streams & subscriber sign-ups – we're now taking the Star Trek franchise & extending it across the house. [...] Building on Discovery & Picard, we now have 2 additional series in production at CBS All Access & Nickelodeon, & 2 more series in development; plus, a series of Picard novels being rolled out at simon and schuster, & a highly anticipated new StarTrek film at Paramount Pictures” Woah. Okay, let's parse this. The series' in production are likely Michelle Yeoh's “Section 31”, Mike McMahon's animated comedy “Lower Decks” and the Hageman Brothers' animated Nickelodeon series, rumored to be named “Star Trek:Prodigy”. But what about the 2 series that are “in developement”? Well, rumors continue to swirl that Anson Mount will take the center seat for a Pike-led series...and evidence continues to...mount? When asked earlier this month what she has been up to, Pike's number One - Rebecca Romijn - let slip to the Daily Front Row ”I've also been working on Star Trek here and there, but I can't really talk about that.”. Then this week, gossip site Giant Freakin Robot reported that the Pike rumor was confirmed by 2 different sources - but you'll  need to take that report with a side of salt. So even if Pike IS one of the two series, what is the other? Starfleet Academy? Khan? Something else entirely?  And the movie - is this Trekantino or the Noah Hawley led maybe-reboot-maybe-Kelvin Star Trek IV? So. Many. Questions. ViacomCBS “House of Brands” ViacomCBS' Bob Bakish announced the company's newest streaming initiative, its three-pronged  “House of Brands”. The company will leverage its ad-supported VOD service PlutoTV, along with its “broad pay” CBS All Access and premium Showtime offerings to bolster its streaming offerings. From the previously mentioned earnings call ”We will add significant content from Nickelodeon, ComedyCentral, MTV, BET, and the Smithsonian Channel – in addition to popular films from the Paramount Pictures library. And we will do this at scale -- to the tune of approximately 30,000 episodes of TV & up to 1,000 movies. [...] This differentiated offering will provide the powerful combination of live linear via over 200 local CBS stations, plus on-demand content spanning news, sports, films, dramas, reality, kids, & more.” So what does that mean? Well, it means that ViacomCBS has the ability, and the interest, in leveraging all of its combined properties to bolster its All Access, PlutoTV, and Showtime streaming services. Now, the question - what will it cost US. We don't know yet, but rest assured we'll be watching for details. Frakes on the Scene Roddenberry WOULDN'T Have Approved Of This week on Star Trek: Picard's fifth episode, “Stardust City Rag”, there was torture, murder, and revenge. But Star Trek royalty - and the director of the episode - Jonathan Frakes  thinks that the late Gene Roddenberry would have had a problem with something else altogether - Interpersonal Conflict Frakes spoke with the Hollywood Reporter about the episode, and in particular the scene in which Picard and Seven discuss how they never fully regained their humanity after assimilation. ”We never could have done [a scene like] this on our show” Frakes clarified that he felt Picard honors “Gene's Vision” [UGH], saying ”In this new version of Star Trek, which honors what Roddenberry laid out — in terms of the optimism and respect toward themes like racism — all of those elements are sort of strongly rooted in this show, but the notion of self-doubt, the vulnerability — especially for a [character] like Picard — the damage of past experiences, are so much more compelling to watch … It's a denser show than Next Gen, I think that's fair to say. Pushing Picard to these places, watching Patrick act that out -- and he was in the writer's room as they developed this story — it's all so rewarding to see” Star Trek Online and Gaming News by Shane Hoover STO Legendary Ship Side-By-Side Comparisons Captains, it's a remarkably quiet week in gaming news. So let's spend a little time looking at just how Star Trek Online's new Legendary starships compare to their other T6 C-Store counterparts.  This week, we're going to look at two of them, so let's dive in. The T6 Assault Cruisers First up, let's look at Elijah's favorite Star Trek ship - the Sovereign-class. This was released in the Legendary bundle as the Legendary Miracle Worker Assault Cruiser. And we're going to compare it to the Tier 6 Fleet Intel Assault Cruiser, which is the highest tier version of the Sovereign you can buy from the C-Store. The weapons layout on both of these is 4 forward and 4 aft, so no difference there. The turn rate of the Legendary Sovereign comes in at 8 to the Fleet Intel's 7, while both carry an inertia value of 40. So the Legendary ship handles a little more tightly. It's also a little sturdier, with a slightly greater hull and shield modifier. Both ships have identical console item layouts, but the Legendary ship offers an extra Universal console slot. Now, we get to the maybe more interesting differences in these ships. To begin with, the Legendary Sovereign comes with a total of +30 bonus subsystems power, split evenly between Weapon and Engine power. The Fleet Intel Sovereign, instead, comes with +20 bonus subsystems power, with +10 to Weapon power, +5 to shields, and +5 to Auxiliary.  Next, let's look at those Bridge Officer layouts.  Both ships' primary slots are Commander level Engineering slots, but the Legendary ship's slot is also a Miracle-Worker specialized slot. The Legendary ship further carries a Lt. Commander Tactical, Lieutenant Engineer/Pilot, Lieutenant Tactical, and Lieutenant Universal slot. The Fleet Intel Sovereign's other Bridge Officer slots are Lieutenant Commander Universal/Intelligence, Lieutenant Commander Tactical, Lieutenant Engineering, and Ensign Tactical.  So, besides the specialization changes, the Legendary ship swaps a Lieutenant Commander slot down to Lieutenant in order to upgrade the Ensign slot to Lieutenant. And, of course, the Legendary Miracle Worker Assault Cruiser comes with the Miracle Worker “Innovation” mechanic. The T6 Defiants For our next comparison, we'll look at a favorite for all of our Captains out there who are Niners. Let's compare the T6 Legendary Pilot Warship to the T6 Fleet Defiant Tactical Escort. This might be the biggest rework of a ship in the Legendary Bundle, because they've changed the entire type of the ship.  Where the Fleet Defiant is an Escort, the Legendary Defiant is a Warship. That's most obviously reflected in the weapon layout. The Legendary Warship has a 5 forward, 3 aft layout, compared to the Fleet Defiant's 4 forward, 3 aft layout plus 1 experimental weapon. The older Fleet Defiant, as an escort, is a bit more nimble when compared to this Legendary Warship. The Warship, though, is a “tougher little ship” with an improved hull modifier; though, you sacrifice on some shielding when compared to the Fleet Escort. In terms of consoles, the Legendary ship has 5 Tactical slots, 4 Engineering, and 2 Science, compared to the 5 Tactical, 3 Engineering, and 3 Science slots of the Fleet Defiant.  Both ships have Commander Tactical Bridge officer slots, with the Legendary ship's slot specialized with Pilot skills. Both ships have a single Lieutenant Commander slot - Engineering on the Legendary ship, and Tactical/Pilot on the Fleet Defiant.  The remaining three slots on each ship are Lieutenant seats. On the Legendary ship, these are Universal/Pilot, Tactical and Science. On the Fleet Defiant, they are Universal, Engineering, and Science. The Legendary Warship also (FINALLY) gives the Defiant the Pilot Maneuvers abilities, and several optional bits of cosmetic Nose Art. EVENTS PC players can enjoy a Borg Red Alert event this weekend, February 27th through March 2nd. And if you need to start a new Captain to fly any new ships, then next weekend is a great chance. From March 5th through March 9th, STO will have a Bonus XP weekend, with double payout available for skill points and experience.  PRIORITY ONE ARMADA NEWS Join us for TFO Tuesday - each Tuesday we team up with other Armada members to earn marks and dilithium.  We are on Discord! The Armada made the official move to Discord last week. So far it's been great, there's been a lot of people joining the server - we've even combined the podcast and Armada into one server.  The House of Martok 3nd Tier V Colony is available - just needs provisions and dilithium.

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Stardust City Rag. Star Trek has rarely shown us the fringes of the galaxy without at least some of the perspective coming from Starfleet characters. In Star Trek: Picard, we're seeing 24-century life in more parts of the galaxy that are far from the oversight of the Federation, and where few interactions with Starfleet officers occur. In “Stardust City Rag,” the crew of La Sirena go on a mission to find cyberneticist Bruce Maddox. They trace him to a city where it seems almost anything goes and any sort of official law is a distant memory. In this episode of The Line, hosts Brandon-Shea Mutala, Justin Oser, and Chrissie De Clerck-Szilagyi discuss the fifth episode of Star Trek: Picard, “Stardust City Rag.” We explore the controversial opening scene as well as the important roles of Bruce Maddox and Seven of Nine. We also talk about colorful and seedy Stardust City, the heartbreaking reunion of Raffi and her son, and where Dr. Agnes Jurati's goes after a big change for her character. This episode also includes the first volley of custom jokes from Dan, fulfilling his ongoing obligation to reward reviews on Apple Podcasts with bespoke humor. We apologize in advance for the length of the episode - the content is solid throughout, but the increased availability of snakeleaf appears to have contributed to a disruption in our perceptions of time and space. Note that this and all episodes of the It's Got Star Trek podcast contain explicit language and, frankly, an unnecessary amount of offensive content, so the show is intended only for adults and really really cool kids.
