A fitting three-part epic after an unforgettable 24 hours, Pilgrims Podcast regulars Archie and Chris are joined by Belgian football expert Scott Coyne and performance analyst Brandon Liss to discuss Plymouth Argyle's new head coach, Miron Muslic. Renowned for his "courageous football style" and expertise in youth development, the 42-year-old has earned a reputation as a highly rated and forward-thinking coach. The guests offer valuable insights into Muslic's tactical acumen, his success in nurturing young talent, and if his bold attacking philosophy aligns with Argyle's ethos. We also delve into the challenges Muslic may face in adapting to a squad built for possession-based football, and how long it might take for his influence to be felt on the pitch. We also analyse the pitfalls Muslic must avoid, the mistakes of his predecessors, and the lessons that must be learned to ensure success. In Part 2, friends of the pod Seve and Dan put this into perspective, discussing the opportunities and challenges ahead as Argyle face a crucial second half of the 2025 season, as well as the bold decision to turn down fan favourite Steven Schumacher. And in Part 3 (1:08:34), the focus shifts to the incredible FA Cup performance that headlined Match of the Day—a huge team effort building on two solid displays under the guidance of two Argyle legends.Next up: a massive run of home games. Join us for an in-depth Millwall FC manager discussion as we break down the final three candidates rumored to be on the shortlist: Alex Neil, Matt Bloomfield, and Steven Schumacher. We dive into each coach's EFL Championship and League One managerial records, tactical approaches, and their potential impact on Millwall's long-term goals. We'll compare their strengths, evaluate their Championship promotion credentials, and consider which candidate could best align with the club's vision. If you're interested in the manager search, want the latest Millwall news, or crave insightful football analysis, this is the episode for you. Alex Neil: Pragmatic and Adaptable: Alex Neil is known for his pragmatic approach, often adjusting his tactics based on the opposition and his team's strengths. Formation Flexibility: He has used formations like 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2 but is not rigid, often switching between systems within games. Counter-Attacking Style: At Norwich and Preston, he leveraged fast transitions from defense to attack. His teams are often well-organized defensively but quick to exploit any opportunity on the counter. Set-Piece Focus: Neil places significant emphasis on set-pieces, both offensively and defensively, using them as a key part of his strategy to score or prevent goals. Matt Bloomfield: Progressive and Player-Centric: Bloomfield emphasizes a modern, engaging style of football that focuses on player development and tactical adaptability. Flexible Formations: He tends to favor a 4-3-3 or 3-4-3, promoting a high-press system when possible, but he's known to adapt based on the squad's abilities. Possession-Based Play: While not strictly possession-oriented, there's a focus on maintaining the ball with purpose, moving it quickly to create openings. Youth Integration: His tactics involve integrating younger players into the first team, promoting a style that encourages creativity and expression on the pitch. Steven Schumacher: Dynamic and Attack-Minded: Schumacher's tactics are characterized by an energetic, attacking approach, aiming to dominate possession and create scoring chances. High Pressing: His teams at Plymouth were known for their high energy and pressing game, trying to win the ball back quickly in advanced areas. Formation Versatility: He often used a 3-4-2-1 or 4-3-3, focusing on width and creativity from the wing-backs or wingers to stretch defenses. Tactical Fluidity: Schumacher likes to keep opponents guessing with in-game changes, often switching formations or tactics to exploit weaknesses or counter opposition strategies. 0:01 – Intro and Welcome 1:12 – Overview of Final Candidates & Betting Odds 1:18 – Spotlight on Matt Bloomfield: Background, Style & Record at Colchester United & Wycombe Wanderers 14:00 – Discussing Millwall's Direction: Stability vs. Long-Term Vision 19:00 – Ambition, Resources & Realistic Expectations at The Den 26:28 – Steven Schumacher Analysis: Plymouth Argyle Success & Stoke City Tenure 33:00 – Alex Neil's Championship Credentials: Norwich City, Preston, Sunderland & Stoke City Insight 45:00 – Comparing Bloomfield, Schumacher & Neil: Pros, Cons & Potential Fits 52:00 – Final Thoughts, Fan Expectations & Holiday Wishes 53:28 – End of Show "The ultimate podcast for passionate Millwall FC fans!

SummaryGraphs and Charts for Episode 67 (Ignore the numbering on the document lol)In this episode, Tom Butterfield and David Bromley discuss the impact that Regis Le Bris has had on Sunderland so far this season and whether Sunderland are a good bet to continue their good run of form regardless of the recent surprise loss away to Plymouth Argyle F.C. They also take a deep dive into the recent surprise sacking of Steven Schumacher at Stoke City F.C. Most fans and Championship followers seemed to be surprised by the timing of the sacking..... and the sacking itself..... but the numbers never lie, so David looks at the attacking output Stoke have served up so far this season to see how they stack up to the rest of their competitors. Was there a power struggle between Jon Walters and Steven Schumacher? Can all of these managers who have come in and out of the Stoke City revolving door be bad managers? Or should we now take a closer look at those in charge of player recruitment? An improved performance but a galling result with the return of Steven Schumacher.A slow start was followed by an entertaining game and an improved performance, which bodes well for the future but is frustrating in the present. Solid performances—especially from a rejuvenated Adam Randell—raise the question: is it really about being more clinical? In part two, there is excitement around deadline day and good wishes to those going out on loan. The consensus is that it's too early to meltdown, with some frustration that not all supporters are in the mood to back the team.Sticking with the theme, a hokey-cokey signings quiz sends everyone into the international break frustrated but not panicked. In todays episode we take a look at some completed transfer deals and a few interesting transfer rumours that are flying around in the January transfer window. Here are the charts and diagrams from this episode. We look at three players today who have either moved on to a new team, or are strongly rumoured to do so in this January transfer window. So how will the teams losing these stand out players manage to fill the gap they leave behind? Those who have listened to the podcast will now that we look at things from a different perspective. We don't want to know who the good players are..... we want to know who the most APPROPRIATE players are to fill that specific role they leave behind. In order to do that our resident guest David Bromley works his magic and turns the columns and columns of data that would melt your brain in five minutes, into a visual chart that allows us to see how similar one player is to another. First we select the main key performance indicators that contribute to their individual playing style. In short, the things that make them play the way they do. Each player that makes the long list of around 250 players is plotted on a scatter graph along with our individual players we have chosen to focus on this week. We then find our selected player and draw a circle around him. The closer another player is positioned on the graph, the more alike these players are. We then make a short list of 20 players which we would look to send to our technical scouts to view recorded footage..... and maybe 1-3 of those players would be considered viable to have our in person scouts to watch and assess. David explains it much better than me! It's an episode that is well worth watching through our youtube channel so you can follow us as we walk through the charts. Just click here. Jobe Bellingham is reportedly interesting Newcastle United FC. We take a look at the young player who has been, in spite of his young age, an effective contributor for Sunderland FC this season. The classy Crysencio Summerville has been the class act from an attacking perspective in the EFL Championship this season. It's no surprise to see our number one ranked attacking contributor attracting the interest of the mighty Liverpool FC. Finn Azaz has completed a move from Aston Villa to Middlesbrough... but really the biggest loser here is Plymouth Argyle where his outstanding form has no doubt won him this move from the South West to the North East. Hayden Hackney has also been causing a stir of late with top EPL teams flocking to watch him and we felt it would be interesting to see whether he and Finn Azaz were similar.... and whether Boro saw Azaz as the replacement for the inevitable outgoing Hackney. It was a theory that we thought would be interesting, and it was. Another player leaving via Plymouth was Wolverhampton Wanderers' Lee Cundle. We thought it only fair to talk about his move to Stoke to reunite with his previous manager Steven Schumacher..... did Schumacher know that Cundle and Azaz were likely on their way out the door before he left for Stoke? We find some really interesting players that are maybe not even on your radar. Players like Jesur Jalollidinov who some call the Uzbek Messi..... will he be a household name one day? Or another player that when thoroughly assessed will be filtered out with countless others. I guess time will tell. We also pay tribute to the great Franz Beckenbauer, a true legend of the game and someone who David and I feel changed the centre half/sweeper position from one of destruction, to one of creativity and class. To think that Bayern Munich were a 2nd division team before Beckenbauer pulled them to greatness, and they've stayed at the top of the German game ever

There's only one Mark Hughes. Well, that is not strictly true, but there is only one who had the career that our Hughesy has had. The Argyle assistant manager came through the ranks at his beloved Everton, but in this enlightening interview he tells us what led to him making the decision to leave the Toffees, aged just 20, and forge a career elsewhere. That career led him to nearly 600 professional appearances, including a stint Down Under, several captaincies, title victories and more. More notably, Mark has been associated with Steven Schumacher at four clubs: as youngsters at Everton, team-mates at Bury and Stevenage, and now as a management duo at Argyle.  This is Mark's story.

Break the Ice Media team members Rhonda Cardenas and Brittany Lynn attended the Georgia CVB annual conference and discovered a wealth of inspirational stories and ideas that the state has to offer. With a positive momentum coming off of a strong 2022, there is a lot of optimism for a bright future in Georgia tourism. The state's beautiful outdoors continues to attract visitors, with state parks seeing large numbers of visitors and new apps featuring outdoor experiences like canoe and kayak trails. The conference attendees described the event as exciting, innovative, collaborative, and like a family, making it clear that Georgia's tourism industry is evolving and staying relevant in a changing world. In this episode, you'll hear from seven Georgia tourism leaders: Joe Marinelli – President, Visit Savannah Kat Hoyt – Visitor Center President, Discover Darien Sam McDuffie – Director of Tourism for Discover Dahlonega Sandy White – President & CEO Alliance for Dade, Chamber of Commerce & Welcome Center Stephanie Stuckey – CEO of Stuckey's Corporation Steven Schumacher – President, Cartersville Bartow CVB Tyler Bryant – President & CEO, Visit Hawkinsville Collaboration and Learning The Annual Conference organized by GACVB offers an excellent chance for professionals in the tourism industry to upgrade their knowledge of destination marketing and management. At this conference, industry suppliers, travel and hospitality affiliates, and tourism professionals come together to discuss successes and explore solutions related to the travel and tourism industry. It is a fun and informative event that offers ample opportunities for collaboration and learning with like-minded professionals across the state. Joe Marinelli – President, Visit Savannah Joe shares one of the many successful partnerships that his organization has fostered in Savannah. He explains how they work closely with the leadership of the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and formed an Air Service Task Force made up of representatives from the airport, Visit Savannah, and Hilton Head to attract new air service to the region. By working together, they have brought in new airlines and expanded the number of destinations the airport serves. Kat Hoyt – Visitor Center President, Discover Darien Kat shares why it's about more than just visiting attractions, but getting outside and enjoying Georgia's beautiful natural spaces. Whether it's hiking through the mountains or paddling down a river, visitors are increasingly interested in connecting with nature and exploring the outdoors. Kat also describes the potential she sees in the use of technology to enhance the visitor experience. For example, the riverkeepers are developing apps that offer information about canoe and kayak trails in the state. This kind of technology can help visitors plan their trips more effectively and make the most of the available destinations. Sam McDuffie – Director of Tourism for Discover Dahlonega Sam shares his successful collaboration and partnership experience in using Over-the-Top (OTT) Television for their destination's tourism promotions. He emphasizes the importance of adapting to new technologies to cater to the ever-changing preferences of their target audience. With more people now using streaming devices for their TV viewing, his DMO has been trying to reach its target market by promoting its commercials and brand in streaming services through OTT TV. Sandy White – President & CEO Alliance for Dade, Chamber of Commerce & Welcome Center Sandy shares her excitement for tourism in Georgia in 2023 and notes that the trend of outdoor activities continues to gain momentum, with state parks seeing large numbers of visitors. She believes people are rediscovering the joys of road trips and staying close to home due to lingering concerns about air travel. As a result, small communities and outdoor destinations in Georgia are poised to benefit greatly. She also observes that the market is shifting towards more family-oriented weekend trips that involve outdoor activities. Stephanie Stuckey – CEO of Stuckey's Corporation Stephanie believes their brand is all about the freedom and independence of exploring America, which is at the core of tourism. Stuckey is excited to see a revival of the road trip in the country, as people are enjoying the joy of getting in their cars and exploring. In terms of changes in the market, Stuckey has noticed an increasing interest in small-town America. The sense of belonging and connection to a place is becoming more important to travelers, which makes Stephanie optimistic about the future of tourism in America. Steven Schumacher – President, Cartersville Bartow CVB According to Steven Schumacher, one trend that's new to the market and booming right now is the popularity of platforms like Airbnb for renting homes and cabins. In the past, hotels were always the main focus for CVBs to earn occupancy taxes. However, in recent years, with Airbnb's contributions to CVB funding, it has expanded their reach to those who may not want a traditional hotel stay. By partnering with both hotels and home-sharing platforms, CVBs can attract a broader range of travelers. Steven believes this trend enhances their ability to appeal to people who are interested in experiencing destinations in a more home-like setting rather than a traditional hotel. Tyler Bryant – President & CEO, Visit Hawkinsville According to Tyler, the word that best describes the GACVB annual conference is “collaboration.” This conference is all about sharing and learning new ideas from each other and working together towards success. The attendees collaborate with one another to grow and prosper in the industry. He shares why the conference offers a great opportunity for professionals to network, exchange knowledge, and find ways to work together toward a common goal. Forward Momentum for Georgia Destinations Our attendance at the Georgia CVBS conference has revealed some exciting insights into the state's tourism industry. Georgia is experiencing positive momentum after a successful 2022 with a promising outlook for 2023. Visitors are drawn to the state's natural beauty, with outdoor experiences remaining a top priority for many. Furthermore, the revival of road trips and interest in small-town America is playing into Georgia's strengths, making it a compelling destination for visitors. The state's tourism industry is continuously evolving to remain relevant in a changing world, and we're excited to see what the future holds for Georgia. Our latest Bred a Blue podcast guest is currently spear-heading Plymouth Argyle's League One promotion push. Steven Schumacher never made a First-Team appearance for his beloved Everton, but he went on to play 500 games as a professional and is currently in charge at Home Park as The Pilgrims look to lift themselves up into the Championship. The former midfielder harbours no grudges about not making the grade at Everton. “I was eight years old when I first had a trial at Bellefield and I stayed until I was 20, so it's a massive part of my life and I loved every minute of it,” he says. “I thought I would get a chance when Walter Smith was the manager.  I was a midfield player who liked a tackle and would have suited Everton's style of play at the time.” That Schumacher never got an opportunity in the Premier League maybe, albeit inadvertently, down to Wayne Rooney! Rooney burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old after helping Everton to the final of the FA Youth Cup in 2002. Schumacher was a team-mate who, like the other nine players who played in that final, got released before playing for the First Team, and he analyses the situation 20 years on. “We all knew that Wayne was special, everybody did, but I don't think anyone honestly would have 100% said that he would go on to become England's leading goalscorer and one of the best players this country has ever produced,” Schumacher added. "You could see the talent, but it wasn't the Wayne Rooney show and ten others. “It probably went against the rest of us because we were all measured against Wayne, and that was tough for the other ten. "Wrong place wrong time, if you like, with regards to my Everton career.” From Everton, Schumacher played for Bradford City, Crewe Alexandra, Bury, Fleetwood and Stevenage in the Football League. He cut his teeth in world of coaching at Finch Farm with the Everton Academy, before returning to the professional game with Bury and then Plymouth Argyle, assuming the top job when Ryan Lowe joined Preston North End in December 2021. “My tenth game as a manager was Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup,” he recalls. “One of the coaches at Everton text me and said, ‘you've gone from managing against Burnley Under-11s to the Champions of Europe in four years!' and that's how quickly football can develop and change. “There are some massive budgets in League One but we're enjoying the challenge. We've just got to keep competing with them and keep fighting with them as long as we can.”
