Jim Hill and Len Testa start with Monstropolis, Disney park capacity, Universal patents, and the sort of tequila event that makes you check whether your Epcot admission is included. Then Jim looks back at Disneyland's very first Grad Nite, held on June 15, 1961, when 8,500 well-dressed seniors were locked inside the park until 4:30 a.m. Along the way, they cover Life magazine's lost photo spread, chaperone lounges, forbidden long hair, and the timeless teenage urge to stash contraband somewhere near Autopia. It is history, logistics, and questionable decision-making, which is to say: high school. NEWS • Monstropolis details reveal “Human Day,” a walking route inspired by Mike and Sulley's commute, and Disney's growing fondness for “you're invited to a special day” ride premises. • Grand Floridian Cafe closes July 19 for refurbishment, raising the important question of whether the menu gets more than new curtains. • La Cava del Tequila hosts a July 14 Epcot event with tastings, cocktails, lunch at San Angel Inn, and a commemorative 1982 menu. • Disneyland restores all-day park hopping, while early signs of DisneylandForward construction point toward a new parking structure and future DCA expansion. • Listener questions cover theme park capacity math, House of Mouse villains, Monstropolis pin trading, and whether Universal's latest patents could make vending machines and park transportation a lot smarter. FEATURE • Jim traces how Disneyland's original Grad Nite grew out of Walt's decision to close Holidayland and Jack Lindquist's search for a new after-hours revenue stream. • The first Grad Nite brought 8,500 students from 28 Southern California high schools to Disneyland for $6 each, or about $67 in today's money. • Life magazine sent four photographers and shot thousands of photos, only to bump the planned spread when the Berlin Wall changed the news cycle. • Disneyland's Grad Nite rules included school buses, dress codes, chaperones, locker checks, planter searches, and haircuts for boys whose hair dared to touch a collar. 👹🚪 ¡MONSTRUOS S.A.! Disney may be rethinking Villains Land at Magic Kingdom - and this time, bigger could truly mean better. Lauren and Eric unpack the rumor that Imagineers were told to go bold with budget becoming secondary, and what that might signal about Disney's competitive strategy. They also break down the delayed closure of Monsters Inc. at Disney California Adventure, what that means for the proposed Avatar expansion, and whether Animal Kingdom's attraction lineup justifies its ticket price. Plus, the rise of AI-generated meet-and-greet images and why they might be causing real-world confusion. HIGHLIGHTS A rumor suggests the original plans for Villains Land at Magic Kingdom were scrapped in favor of bigger, more ambitious concepts with budget reportedly becoming a secondary concern. What this could mean for Disney's long-term strategy as new leadership looks to make a defining creative statement. Why Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue at Disney California Adventure may now stay open longer than expected. How the potential delay impacts the proposed Avatar-themed expansion and why some fans question whether the IP fits the park. A breakdown of attraction counts across Walt Disney World parks and the renewed debate over whether Animal Kingdom currently offers enough rides to justify a full-day visit. How recent closures and construction projects are affecting crowd flow and guest perception at Animal Kingdom. The surge of AI-generated Disney character meet-and-greet images online and how they may be misleading guests planning their trips. For this episode's full show notes, click here. Tim and Audrey are back with the second half of their Disneyland weekend recap! They kick things off with some Disney news — Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue gets a closure reprieve until 2027, and what that might mean for Avatar Land. Then they dive into their California Adventure day, which happened to fall on the park's 25th anniversary AND Super Bowl Sunday (a combo they did not see coming). From commemorative maps and Animation Academy to a surprise Phineas & Ferb connection with the show's co-creator, the family packed a lot in. Plus: they witnessed the Super Bowl MVP cavalcade on Main Street, had a standout meal at Pym's Test Kitchen, and capped the trip with their very first character breakfast at Storytellers Café — and why they're making it a new tradition. As always, four kids, big feelings, and plenty of Disney magic (and chaos) along the way.I

They scare, because they care. But do they? Do they really?Animation Season 2026 kicks off with Pixar's fourth feature, turning 25 years old this year, the incomparable Monsters, Inc.In the world of Monsters, Inc., fear is a power source, and children's screams fuel the world of Monstropolis, which is both clever and a bit dark. This is a bright colourful movie, that cleverly hides its darkness from kids, but adults will see it everywhere.James P. Sullivan, as Monsters Incorporated's number one scarer, has no idea that his world is literally about to be changed by a three-year-old human girl, who finds herself in Monstropolis. His best friend Mike Wazowski is an eyeball with arms and legs who just wants to put that thing back where it came from, or so help me!Originally titled Monsters, Monsters, Inc transformed from the story of an accountant in their 30s reliving childhood fears of monsters, to a story about scaring just being the monsters' day jobs. Neither Sulley nor Mike were in the original pitch, both characters evolved massively over time. The production of Monsters, Inc. involved significant technological advancements for Pixar - only six years after Toy Story - especially in fur animation, making Sulley's character feel more lifelike and relatable. And bizarrely, also tentacles.Animation isn't just for kids; it's a versatile art form that can tell deep stories, as seen in the exploration of themes like fear and love in Monsters, Inc. It cleverly critiques societal fears and misconceptions, showing how characters are shaped by the narratives they believe—like the monsters thinking children are toxic.I'm pretty sure kids aren't toxic, though, right? RIGHT?I would love to hear your thoughts on Monsters, Inc. !Verbal Diorama is now an award-winning podcast! Phil and Emily head back to early-2000s Pixar with Monsters, Inc., a movie that feels deceptively simple until you realize how much emotional and thematic weight it's quietly carrying. Joining them is Griffin Newman for a deep dive into why this film has endured as one of Pixar's most humane, rewatchable achievements. The conversation unpacks the movie's elegant world-building, its labor-comedy roots, and how it turns corporate systems, energy consumption, and fear itself into something legible for kids without flattening the ideas for adults. They talk Sulley as an unusually gentle Pixar protagonist, Mike Wazowski as both comic engine and emotional fulcrum, and Boo as a character whose impact far outweighs her screen time. They also explore where Monsters, Inc. sits in Pixar's creative timeline, how its humor is engineered, why its ending lands as hard as it does, and how the film reflects early-2000s anxieties about work, productivity, and empathy. Along the way, the group discusses the studio's voice-casting philosophy, the film's visual softness compared to later Pixar titles, and why its central message still plays cleanly more than two decades later.Whether this was your childhood Pixar favorite or one you've come to appreciate more as an adult, this episode reframes Monsters, Inc. as a quietly radical movie about fear, care, and choosing connection over efficiency. Mentally Gone Ep. 39 - OCCULT SYMBOLISM AT THE VMAS | MONSTERS INC IS DARK | CONSPIRACY THEORIES #conspiracy #satanic #music #occult #hollywood #truth #pixar Join us in our latest video podcast as we unpack the veil of mystique and decode the intriguing symbolism observed in the 2022 VMAs. Discover how artists are seemingly utilized to promulgate the elites' agenda through this globally-renowned platform. We delve into the blatant symbolism punctuating the entire event, such as the distinctive main stage fashioned as a triangle with an embedded eye, the strong emphasis on blurring gender boundaries, and the overt sexualization transformed into control tools. We shed light on numerous performances, unraveling their potential underlying implications and possible ties to powerful systems. Explore how Saucy Santana and Dove Cameron's presentations may be subverting traditional gender roles. We also scrutinize the role of holograms and CGI projections in perpetuating certain messages, paying special attention to Conan Grey's performance under a pyramid structure. Our conversation doesn't shy away from the most controversial moments of the VMAs, like Lil Nas X's arguably humiliation ritual during the award acceptance. We also evaluate the performances of internationally-acclaimed groups like Blackpink and their potential displays of occult allegiance. From Latin music's foray into this agenda, with artists like J Balvin and Ryan Castro, to Brazilian star Anitta's rise under this possible occult regime, we explore the symbolism and the possible attempts at mass indoctrination. Bad Bunny's contribution to the gender-blurring narrative, and Nicki Minaj's potential Freemason ties. "Monsters Inc." is set in the mythical city of Monstropolis, where monsters utilize the screams of human children as a source of energy. Our podcast explores the theory that this 'scare factory' serves as a metaphor for an alleged black market for adrenochrome, a derivative of adrenaline. This theory infers the monsters' exploitation of children's fear in the film as a parallel to the supposed real-world extraction of adrenochrome under duress. As the story unfolds, protagonists Mike and Sulley discover that laughter, a positive emotion, generates more energy than fear. Conspiracy theorists argue that this transformation symbolizes the idea that adrenochrome is believed to be harvested in greater quantities from joy than fear. That and much more!

Once the market opened on Monday, the stock has risen 9%. The full land will open on March 8th — a little over a month after Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is scheduled to open on January 27th. As a recap, we can expect to see an update to Goofy's House with an interactive playground for kids; a new spot for Donald's Boat playground equipment and video portholes; A re-themed Gadget's Go-Coaster focusing on Chip and Dale; And the return of Mickey and Minne's Houses, Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin in addition to dining options at Café Daisy and Good Boy! Grocers. – https://twitter.com/DisneyParks/status/1593620677612998656 We heard this announcement this past Friday, as the park celebrated Mickey & Minnie's 94th Birthday with special buttons handed out at the main entrances and a birthday cavalcade downtown Main Street. The parade featured the Dapper Dans led sing alongs from the Omnibus, the Disneyland Band playing “Happy Birthday” with a bunch of characters, the Mickey and Minnie as the guests of honor before the cavalcade ends with a giant birthday cake for the pair. – https://www.micechat.com/340104-disneyland-news-return-of-the-king-cursed-keys/ Indy is back open after its 3-day refurb, but it's not what we were hoping. MiceChat says many of its major effects are still not working and is in desperate need of a rumored major overhaul. Meanwhile, in DCA Monsters Inc.: Mike and Sulley to the Rescue! opened up over the weekend with updated black light effects, fixed projection effects and some new safety features. The outside also got a fresh coat of paint. – https://www.micechat.com/340104-disneyland-news-return-of-the-king-cursed-keys/ Magic Keys were back on sale at Disneyland for a brief time this week. All keys except the Enchant level were open for new sales. Not long after, the Believe key was sold out and the others followed later. Magic Key sales are closed for now. Disney utilized the online queue for new sales like they have done in the past. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/17/disney-has-paused-select-magic-key-pass-sales/ Disneyland is adapting Disney World's latest cancelation policy for dining reservations. That means reservations must be canceled at least 2 hours prior to avoid a $10 per person cancelation fee. DisneyFoodBlog reports Disney saying this does not apply to Downtown Disney District restaurants, the World of Color Dessert Party, the Princess Breakfast Adventure at Napa Rose, and Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/17/update-made-to-dining-reservation-cancelation-policy-for-disneyland/ We are not even past Thanksgiving in the United States, but Disney is already thinking of the Lunar New Year and the California Food and Wine Festival. In 2023, Lunar New Year is starting on January 20th and running through February 15th. For 2023, it is the Year of the Rabit for the Chinese New Year, which symbolizes luck, but the Vietnamese New Year is the Year of the Cat. Two new Lunar New Year marketplaces arrive this year; Bamboo Blessings and Wrapped with Love. The Food and Wine Festival will run from March 3rd through April 25th. With the Food and Wine festival, Soarin' Over California will return once again. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/11/lunar-new-year-celebration-and-disney-california-adventure-food-&-wine-festival-return-in-2023-to-disney-california-adventure-park/ A week after the rest of the resort, the holidays arrived at Downtown Disney and the resort hotels. Trees, nutcrackers, snowmen and more line the streets of the shopping district. Inside the hotels you'll find the annual staples — the Gingerbread house and giant tree in the Grand Californian Lobby, Mid-Century Modern decor adorns the Disneyland Hotel. Though MiceChat is reporting a rumor that this style of holiday decorations will go away next year. – https://www.micechat.com/340104-disneyland-news-return-of-the-king-cursed-keys/ On November 18th, the Mandalorian and Grogu landed in Star Wars Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland. The duo greeted guests and even interacted with Boba Fett in the land. They should be out and greeting guests every 30 minutes. No news on how long they will be visiting Batuu, so if you are interested in meeting them, get to the parks soon. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/18/photos-and-video-we-met-baby-yoda-in-disneyland/ This past week featured Life Day — the holiday celebration in the Star Wars Universe. You can get a taste of holiday-inspired dishes back in Galaxy's Edge. At Docking Bay 7, you can find Trandoshan-style Past with Braised Bantha — which is a braid beef over Cavatelli pasta with veggies, a zesty avocado sauce, and balsamic glaze. We've heard it's a bit spicy. Or there is a Yobshrmip Mix stew with Swamp Grains — another spicy dish featuring shrimp, sausage, veggies, and rice with a tomato curry sauce. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/20/we-have-one-word-to-describe-these-2-new-disney-snacks-spicy/ Guests who shop early and want to grab their merch on the way out of the park instead of carrying it will now find it at the Disneyland Merchant's Guild, located in the former Guided Tour building next to Disneyland's City Hall. – https://www.micechat.com/340104-disneyland-news-return-of-the-king-cursed-keys/ Discussion: Marceline, MO – https://www.downtownmarceline.org/tour/
