A few years ago we had the pleasure of speaking with Jonathan Ogurchak about the success of his company STACK. Now we have invited him back to see how the business has progressed and learn about his new venture, Zeal Specialty Pharmacy.   As a pharmacist, Jonathan observed significant inefficiencies and a need to modernize processes. This set him on a course to develop and deliver better technology that would ultimately improve patient care. Today, he is a recognized serial entrepreneur, a leader in technology, and a man whose latest endeavor is centered on the delivery of medication to individuals with rare diseases.   Here are highlights of our conversation:   -An Update on STACK: The business has expanded its product offerings including a new product called On Queue, an operations workflow platform to enhance the pharmacy patient journey and capture valuable data. They now have customers in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Dubai.   -Healthcare Compliance: STACK software helps organizations manage compliance by providing easy access to regulations for different states and purposes and automating processes for accreditation, compliance, and training for pharmacies.   -Zeal's Branding Strategy: Jonathan explained the origin of the company name "Zeal" as a play on the term "zebra" in the medical community, representing rare and orphan diseases. The zebra also represents an effort to connect with patient communities through tasteful and purposeful branding.   -Advice for Founders: Finding a mentor and maintaining a network for personal and professional growth is critical for new founders. He shared his experiences as a business owner and entrepreneur, highlighting the need to foster a healthy balance between work and personal life. He shared the significance of family and prioritizing time with loved ones, as businesses and jobs can change but family remains constant.   -Building Culture:  Jonathan discussed the pharmacy's leadership development initiative, which includes a book club focused on customer service and growth. He mentioned the book "Unreasonable Hospitality" and the Disney Institute program. Jonathan also shared that he encourages team members to explore different industries for innovative ideas.         About the guest: Jonathan Ogurchak, PharmD, CSP, CPHIMS, is a specialty pharmacy veteran, having served in numerous roles across pharmacies, associations, and education for the last 15 years.   Currently, he is the CEO & Founder of STACK, a software firm with two commercially available platforms: its namesake, STACK, a pharmacy information management platform designed to curate and organize information necessary to run successful pharmacies, professional associations, and higher education institutions; and OnQueue, a workflow platform built to optimize the patient journey for pharmacies and clinics. He is also the CEO and co-founder of Zeal Specialty Pharmacy, an independent rare-disease pharmacy leveraging both the above technologies to create the best experiences possible for patients, prescribers, and pharma partners across the country.   Jonathan is an adjunct faculty through Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh, precepts pharmacy students virtually at 25 schools of pharmacy nationwide, focused on specialty pharmacy programs and processes, and his specialty pharmacy textbook is in pre-publication.   Connect with Jonathan: Website: https://www.managewithstack.com/ Website: https://www.zealsp.com/   Connect with Allison: Feedspot has named Disruptive CEO Nation as one of the Top 25 CEO Podcasts on the web, and it is ranked the number 6 CEO podcast to listen to in 2025! https://podcasts.feedspot.com/ceo_podcasts/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/allisonsummerschicago/ Website: https://www.disruptiveceonation.com/    #CEO #leadership #startup #founder #business #businesspodcast  Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of the Healthcare Plus Podcast, Quint Studer welcomes Regina Shupe, DNP, RN, and Jennifer Carron Passon, MSOM, CPXP, for a conversation focused on patient experience. Quint, Regina, and Jennifer explore the “patient experience” concept, which has evolved tremendously over the past few decades. Now it encompasses the sum of all interactions from the initial touchpoint when a patient even considers selecting a healthcare organization until the time that they are back home caring for themselves and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. (It's interesting to hear Quint, who has been described as putting patient experience “on the map,” open the discussion with his own history lesson on the field.) They also discuss a 2021 JAMA article—“Criterion-Based Measurements of Patient Experience in Health Care: Eliminating Winners and Losers to Create a New Moral Ethos” by Thom Mayer, Arjun Venkatesh, and Donald M. Berwick—debating the pros and cons of moving away from traditional percentile-based evaluations. Finally, they offer a wealth of takeaways. Listeners will learn from the thoughtful discussion of common barriers people face when working to improve the patient experience and some practical (and doable) tips for overcoming them. About Jennifer Carron Passon, MSOM, CPXPWith 30 years of leadership experience and a Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP) credential, Jennifer is a patient experience officer at BJC Health System, a $6B integrated academic health system that serves millions of patients and families across the Midwest.   Her mission is to ignite a passion for human centricity and to transform the healthcare experience for all. She uses her Disney Institute training and contemporary thinking to design and deploy innovative interventions and digitally enhanced programs that elevate service excellence, hospitality, ownership, and regulatory results. She also contributes to various state-level and global initiatives that aim to advance patient and family engagement, equity and inclusion, and quality and safety in healthcare delivery. About Regina Shupe, DNP, RNRegina works for the Healthcare Plus Solutions Group® team as an advisor, bringing her expertise in emergency services to help our partners assess and improve upon their patient experience and throughput to better serve patients and communities. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and also holds a certification in LEAN for Healthcare. For the past 35 years, she has dedicated her life to caring for patients, families, team members, and physicians. As a nurse, she enjoyed the intersection between the heart and science, healing patients from the inside out. As a leader, she is able to see the positive correlation between the experience of team members and the experience of patients. She believes when we intentionally design meaningful and memorable experiences for team members, physicians, and patients, we are able to heal as well as truly transform healthcare.

Customers First Podcast

I'm thrilled to share with you our latest episode of the Customer's First Podcast, where we had the incredible opportunity to dive deep into the power of having an anchoring word to guide your year and why our Special Guest Angie Robinson, a certified life and leadership coach and Customers First Regular Contributor, and I both choose one. It can transform your life and your business. Angie shares her background in human resources and how she transitioned into starting her own business focused on leadership and life coaching. We express gratitude for Angie's impact on our own life and discuss the energy and excitement of the new year. We both discuss how we prefer living with intention rather than making New Year's resolutions. We discussed the concept of choosing a word of the year and expressed our interest in discussing Angie's process for selecting a word. Angie introduces a handout called "10 impactful coaching questions to help with self-reflection and goal-setting" on her website. (link below) Angie emphasizes the importance of understanding the why behind our goals. We discuss the need to go deeper and ask multiple whys to determine our motivations and desires. She suggested asking ourselves what success looks like and what we wish was different in our current situation, as well as the importance of understanding the risks and obstacles that may arise and planning ahead for how to overcome them. She mentions the concept of commitment and recommends rating our commitment level on a scale of one to ten and then identifying what it would take to go from that rating to a ten, as well as the importance of not using this rating against ourselves and staying grounded in our goals and desires throughout the year despite any challenges or setbacks. She shares that she started doing this about 12 years ago and highlights its power in helping us push through the year and facilitating transformation when we look back at the chosen words. We talk about the significant role emotions play in this process and how understanding the concept of creating desired feelings can shape our thoughts and actions, explaining that once we have established the end result, we can move on to choosing the word. We outline our process, which involves asking ourselves questions about what we want the next year to bring, what we want to celebrate, and what we need more or less of in our lives. She mentioned keeping a list of potential words on her phone and periodically evaluating them, sometimes seeking assistance from Google or AI models to narrow down the options. We describe it as an organic process that eventually leads us to the perfect word for the year. We even share Angie's word for 2024, which is "limitless," revealing that "limitless" represents her desire to let go of limiting beliefs and barriers that hold us back and her intention to make decisions in alignment with being limitless. Angie discusses how, throughout the year, she uses prompts from a project called "One Little Word" to keep her word alive, explaining that she reflects on how the word shows up in her life and even takes pictures that reflect the word. She mentions holding a clipboard with examples of how the word is making a difference and using sticky notes or a vision board to keep the word visible and stay accountable and focused. We mention the importance of checking in with ourselves and having an accountability partner to keep on track. We then shifted the conversation to a more personal note, to our "Spill the Tea" session, where we shared our experience working at McDonald's as our first management job and how it shaped who we are today. One of the recurring themes of this podcast is leadership. Writing and creativity are, of course, a huge part of what we do. But if we want to operate a successful business, we have to be able to manage all the moving pieces in order for things to run smoothly and grow over time. I'm excited to have a guest today who can help us do that. Valerie Cockerell was born and raised in France, where she graduated with a degree in Business Hospitality. She eventually joined Disneyland Paris in 1991 as a retail manager. After succeeding in a number of roles, she eventually oversaw the planning for all Resort merchandise locations in the park. Upon moving to Florida in 1997, Valerie worked as the Assortment Planning Manager at Downtown Disney and Epcot Center, eventually moving to Merchandise Brand Management for both Epcot and the Disney Cruise Line. Valerie left the company and started consulting for outside organizations in the retail world. She returned to Disney in 2013 to become a contract facilitator for Disney Institute, where she facilitated professional development classes and custom programs in both French and English. She drew from her international management experience in retail and operations to teach Disney's approach to Leadership Excellence and Customer Service. Since May 2019, Valerie has been a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator with her husband, Dan Cockerell. In her speaking, she shares her expertise and methodology in leading teams and delivering outstanding customer service. Valerie joins me today for a conversation about her new book, Manage like a Mother: Leadership Lessons Drawn from the Wisdom of Mom, which offers a simple-to-understand and easy-to-implement take on leadership inspired by a mother's playbook. We talk about her career working for the Disney organization, how everyone can learn to become a better leader and manager by borrowing concepts from mothers (even men!), how writers can implement these principles, and more. You can connect with Valerie at https://cockerellconsulting.com. * * * A big thank you to our sponsors, who keep this podcast free for listeners: Vellum is the go-to book formatting software for indie authors who care about creating beautiful ebooks and print books. For Rick Ching, the senior advisor and global mobility board director of Servco Pacific, fostering servant leadership and advocating for inclusivity was all part of the journey. He shares how Servco Pacific drew from Google's principles of respect, service, team work and innovation to create and adopt a servant leadership framework. That work, plus Disney Institute training, has resulted in a workplace culture that goes beyond the traditional corporate paradigm. For example, Servco created allyship groups so that diverse teams can voice opinions on policy decisions. Ching says this demonstrates a commitment to inclusivity and helps spearhead changes meant to foster a more diverse workplace. Ching's personal journey, from starting in 1985 to assuming the roles of CEO and President, reveals the challenges of leadership in a corporate setting. The discussion on decision-making made evident the delicate balance between information gathering and timely execution, with both experience and humility playing pivotal roles. Beyond the corporate realm, the podcast provides a glimpse into Ching's family history, education and career path. And, as he transitions into a senior advisory role, the podcast explores his reflections on retirement, future plans and the importance of family.

"By virtue of being a kid and on the receiving end of mothering, you have learned you know what works and what doesn't work." - Valerie Cockerell This conversation brought me an all new perspective around the ways that motherhood can serve as a powerful foundation for effective leadership in any organization. Valerie Cockerell is joining to discuss her new book, "Manage Like a Mother," where she explores the intersection of motherhood and leadership. Valerie's message is simple yet impactful: leaders should manage like a mother. Valerie Cockerell is a French American former Disney leader who was part of the opening team of Disneyland Paris. She pursued her career at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida and facilitated programs for the Disney Institute. She is now a consultant in Leadership and Customer service excellence for organizations around the world. Today, she is the proud mother of 3 and lives near Boulder, Colorado.  During our conversation, Valerie shares her goal of encouraging men to become advocates for women by reflecting on the impact of their own mothers. She draws parallels between the instinctive thinking and planning that mothers do for their children's futures and the long-term vision that leaders should have for their organizations. There is also value in the different approaches and strengths that women bring to the table.  Many organizations recognize the need for diverse skills and perspectives in leadership roles. Valerie does a great job of explaining that while there are imperfections of mothers, the lessons we take away - good and bad - provide value. By recognizing the unique contributions that mothers make, she hopes to bridge the gender gap in the workplace and inspire men to support and advocate for women. Valerie encourages organizations to shift their focus from experience to a skills-based approach, providing women with a fair chance to compete on an equal basis. This is a great episode full of thought-provoking insight that challenges traditional notions of leadership. In this episode, we go back to the mid-1980s when Michael Eisner decided to bring The Chautauqua Institution's blend of enrichment, entertainment, and fun back to Florida with a “uniquely Disney” touch. Originally conceived to be part of Celebration, The Disney Institute opened in February of 1996, offering “Discovery Vacations” where guests could choose from a variety of classes on the topics of Culinary Arts, Design Arts, Entertainment Arts, Environment, Lifestyles, Story Arts, and Sport and Fitness.

All Home Care Matters is honored to welcome Bianca Padilla the Co-Founder of Carewell to the show. Bianca and Carewell are helping to revolutionize the caregiving space for caregivers and their loved ones.   Bianca became her grandmother's caregiver after major surgery left her nearly immobile. She felt overwhelmed without guidance regarding the products she needed and where to find them. She also had no one to turn to for advice. This experience led her to create Carewell with her now-husband, Jon Malgonick.   She graduated from New York University with a bachelor's degree in economics. Before founding Carewell, she worked as a software engineer at LiveNinja and as an analyst for CCMP Capital Advisors and Pantheon Ventures. She also founded the Charlotte chapter of Aging 2.0, to which she currently serves as an ambassador, and attended the Disney Institute. In 2022, she made the Forbes 30 under 30 list.
