“Catch and revoke” — the phrase sounds like something from a dystopian thriller, but it's Secretary of State Marco Rubio's very real characterization of the Trump administration's new one-strike visa cancellation policy targeting foreign students. A State Department spokesperson said that "full social media vetting" will be used for visa interviews and will be ongoing while the student remains in the U.S. for studies. On this week's episode of The Intercept Briefing, host Akela Lacy speaks to anthropologist Sophia Goodfriend and Chris Gelardi, a reporter for New York Focus investigating surveillance and the criminal legal system. They unpack how AI and surveillance technology are being weaponized to silence dissent on American campuses and fuel the deportations of immigrants nationwide."In the past few months, as we see the expansion of government surveillance, the crackdown of ICE on both legal residents and undocumented people in this country, we see these technologies lending a veneer of algorithmic efficiency to increasingly draconian policies," says Goodfriend. To understand more about the tech infrastructure powering deportations and what this digital crackdown means for everyone, listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen. Voice Of GO(r)D is proud to present Mr Mike Williams, one of Australia's most infamous truckers and political commentators, and host of the On The Road Aussie Trucking Podcast. Mike has spent a lifetime “On The Road” Down Under, and has also been podcasting about it for a number of years now. You may have seen Mike expounding online in his ‘Minute with Mick' video segments, or having his advocacy read aloud in the Australian Senate. Maybe you passed him on your way to Port Hedland as he was towing four of the bastards loaded with Iron Ore.I appeared on Mike's show not long after I began writing about the Freedom Convoy, and have been long overdue to return the favor. Mike didn't disappoint, and fills us in on the history of Surveillance Tech in Oz, The Razorback Mountain Truckies Blockade, life in Oz under their insane Covid Regime, how their graduated licensing system works, (or not), various issues unique to Ozzy truckers, and in particular with driver shortage narratives and driver ‘replacement' by drooling morons that appears to be the same no matter where you go.Is there no escape? You can find Mike all over the Internet. On Twitter - https://x.com/theoztruckerFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/otrpodcastausSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/7gqE7DetB7p7MYu3uhvpHu?si=a1c7cb8d281047b3Here is Australian Senator Glenn Sterle reading Mike's comments into Parliament -https://www.facebook.com/SenatorGlennSterle/videos/503818531182425/This is the Audiobook recounting of the Razorback Mountain Truckies Blockade -https://open.spotify.com/episode/26OmJkgEEnmlkzwVm4ARtd?si=409837e518f847d2I'm writing a book on the fate of the trucker in 2025 - https://autonomoustruckers.substack.com/p/book-project-announcement-and-a-majorIf you've got a couple of bucks to spare to help me get the book out the door -https://www.givesendgo.com/EndOfTheRoadAs always, questions, comments, suggestions, corrections and Hate Mail are welcomed and strongly encouraged - gordilocks@protonmail.com
Surveillance technology like automated license plate readers has become commonplace in policing. India can't get enough of surveillance technology.Indian startups, meanwhile, are making the most of this trend by securing high visibility government contracts. But while these can boost a startup's profile, government projects are unpredictable and often difficult for smaller startups to win. As a result, there is a shift underway — private clients are becoming increasingly crucial for profitability. This divide between public and private contracts is forcing India's surveillance startups to do a fair bit of monkey balancing. How are they pulling it off?Tune in. U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's promise to deport millions of people draws attention to longstanding practices of tracking and intercepting migrants using artificial intelligence and high-risk surveillance technologies. Petra Molnar, human rights lawyer and anthropologist, underscores how border surveillance tech firms drive and profit from the U.S., Canada, and the European Union's criminal migration policy agenda. Yet the application of these insidious technologies, largely developed by Israeli tech firms and billionaire Peter Thiel's Palantir, is not limited to borderlands and has dystopian human rights impacts in everyday life.
On this week's MACRODOSE, James Meadway dives into growing concerns over the use of surveillance technology by US supermarkets and how it's being leveraged to drive price gouging (1:14), before turning to a recent BBC report on the UK's health crisis and it's economic fallout (5:29). The recent pager explosions in Lebanon have led the Indian government to fasttrack the implementation of its guidelines regarding surveillance equipment, which came out earlier this year. The fresh guidelines are likely to come into effect this month and will likely affect Chinese vendors who make up a bulk of the CCTV market in the country. The new guidelines prioritize security, data protection, and the promotion of “Make in India” products. In this episode, we discuss the implications for Chinese players like Hikvision and Dahua, the rise of domestic companies like CP Plus, and how these measures are in line with other governments too which are cracking down heavily on Chinese CCTV equipment. Host Dia Rekhi is joined by Varun Gupta of Counterpoint Research and Ausma Bernot, Expert of Surveillance Tech & Governance to understand how India is reshaping its surveillance landscape. The impact of the Israeli occupation of Palestine extends far beyond the disputed borders of the region. Israeli companies – many with close ties to the government and military – export weapons and surveillance technology across the globe. Palestinians and their communities serve as test subjects, where potential clients can witness the impact of Israeli technology in an urban warfare setting. Award-winning journalist Antony Loewenstein details this dynamic in his book "The Palestine Laboratory: How Israel Exports the Technology of Occupation Around the World". It was published by Verso earlier this year. The Palestine Laboratory: How Israel Exports the Technology of Occupation Around the World, is a groundbreaking book by independent journalist and best-selling author Antony Loewenstein. In this global investigation, Loewenstein uncovers the hidden world of Israel's military-industrial complex and its use of the occupied Palestinian territories as a testing ground for surveillance technology and weaponry. Through secret documents, revealing interviews, and on-the-ground reporting, Loewenstein exposes how Palestine has become a perfect laboratory for Israel's military-techno complex, shaping the architecture of control that is exported worldwide. The book sheds light on Israel's role as a global leader in spying technology and defense hardware, supplying tools that fuel some of the most brutal conflicts and authoritarian regimes across the globe. https://twitter.com/antloewenstein https://www.versobooks.com/en-gb/products/2684-the-palestine-laboratory https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/dec/06/rohingya-sue-facebook-myanmar-genocide-us-uk-legal-action-social-media-violence https://mondoweiss.net/2014/09/blackmails-palestinian-informants/ https://www.vice.com/en/article/av8b5j/gay-palestinians-are-being-blackmailed-into-working-as-informants ----------------------------------------------------- DONATE and help the channel grow - https://donorbox.org/help-me-buy-stuff PRE-ORDER MY GAMESTOP BOOK - https://wen-moon.com Buy Brexit: The Establishment Civil War - https://amzn.to/39XXVjq ----------------------------------------------------- You can listen to the show on Spotify, Apple, and all major platforms - https://chatterpodcast.podbean.com/ Watch Us On Odysee.com - https://odysee.com/$/invite/@TheJist:4 Join My Mailing List - https://www.getrevue.co/profile/thejist Follow Me On Twitter - https://twitter.com/Give_Me_TheJist ----------------------------------------------------- Website - https://thejist.co.uk/ Music from Just Jim – https://soundcloud.com/justjim Extract Labs CBD - https://extract-labs.pxf.io/n10JMa Canva Premium Graphics - https://partner.canva.com/b3A9X6

Thought Surveillance Tech Launches This Year; China Could Trigger War Ahead of 2025
Tools to monitor your brain activity are set to release this year, and already there are groups proposing how it can be used by businesses to monitor the thoughts of employees, and by law enforcement to spot potential criminals. The technology and its potential uses were discussed at the recent World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Meanwhile, a four-star general in the U.S. Air Force sent a memo to his officers, warning that the United States could be at war with China by 2025. The warning comes alongside news that American military support to Ukraine has drained its military stockpiles. In this live Q&A with Crossroads host Joshua Philipp, we'll discuss these stories and others, and answer questions from the audience. ⭕️ Stay up-to-date with Josh with the Crossroads NEWSLETTER

Every time a new technology that collects, stores, and analyzes our data is released to the world or permitted a new role, we are promised that it will work as intended and won't cause undue harm. But writer, professor, and speaker Dr. Chris Gilliard has found that this is rarely how these stories actually end. In this discussion with Senior Fellow Arthur Holland Michel, Dr. Gilliard explains why the arc of surveillance technology and novel "artificial intelligence" bends toward failures that disproportionately hurt society's most vulnerable groups, what this means for our notions of "responsible tech" and "AI ethics," and what we can do about it moving forward. He previously was a professor at UC Irvine and director of UCI Health's Medical Ethics Program before he was fired for refusing vaccination. “I think this biomedical security state apparatus that has been put in place during the pandemic will remain in place and will be redeployed for other purposes,” says Kheriaty. We discuss egregious violations of medical ethics he's seen over the course of this pandemic and the deadly consequences of these policies. Among working-age Americans, there's been an unprecedented 40 percent rise in all-cause mortality—most of which is not due to COVID-19. “Something is going on that is producing catastrophically bad outcomes.”
It’s going to be a minute before the contours of an actual collective bargaining agreement come into focus for workers at the Amazon fulfillment center in Staten Island, New York, who voted to unionize Friday. Amazon says it’s evaluating options to contest the election. But the union drive has put workplace conditions in the spotlight, including how the company uses technology to monitor its warehouse employees. Lisa Kresge, a researcher at the UC Berkeley Labor Center, said there’s a long history of unions negotiating management’s use of tech in the workplace, and Amazon warehouses use plenty of it.

A “digital border wall” has been steadily built along the U.S.-Mexico border for the last four presidential administrations, overseen by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and supported by Democrats and Republicans alike. The Biden administration plans to increase this digital border wall funding, marketing it as a “gentler” or “smarter” alternative to Trump's border wall. But these technologies are an extension of the Trump administration's border infrastructure buildup, not a break with it. In this episode, we dive into the 14 most important pieces of surveillance technology that make up the US 'digital border wall,' according to immigrant-rights groups. Africa has longstanding and deep partnerships with Chinese technology companies—Huawei famously began developing its telecommunications networks in rural Kenya in the 1990s. Today, African governments are among the top customers for Chinese surveillance tools, from “smart cities” to media monitoring. These partnerships have come under increased scrutiny and criticism for two main reasons: domestic human rights abuses committed with the help of surveillance tech in China, and allegations of government spying (in 2018, Le Monde reported that the African Union headquarters communications network, built by Huawei, was leaking data to Shanghai). This raises the question: is China exporting its surveillance apparatus to Africa? It's more complicated than that, according to Jili Bulelani, MERICS Futures Fellow and Harvard PhD candidate. In this conversation, he offers insights in how to conceptualize these issues, with emphasis on the motivations of local actors and the race to regulate surveillance technology.
