Episode 60: The World of Ouija! With John KozickJohn Kozik's obsession with collecting and researching Ouija began when he inherited his grandmother's board in the late 1990's. He was surprised to discover that Ouija was simply one specific brand of Talking Board, and that they date much further back than the Ouija of Parker Brothers fame. Through years of dedication John is now one of the most knowledgeable people on the subject. In 2013 he became a founding member of the Talking Board Historical Society, a group that researches and preserves the history of Talking Boards. Fast forward to 2019 - John opened the doors of The Salem Witch Board Museum to the public. It is the only museum dedicated to the history and lore of the Talking Board, boasting the largest collection of boards, obscure memorabilia, and ephemera under one roof. In May of 2024 he realized one roof was not big enough for Ouija's rich history, so he opened a second location,Witch Board Museum Baltimore. Whether you believe it's the tool of the Devil or just an innocent kid's game, a visit to the museums will allow you to learn more about this fascinating and iconic piece of Americana.Find his work at https://www.salemwitchboardmuseum.comPoetry today : Sitting Samhain by K. Many people have had otherworldly experiences while using, or right after using this cardboard and plastic "game." Here is what we do know about this thing some say is just a toy while others say it's a tool of the devil.
Sometimes love requires the reminder of sacrifice and power. For the pieces that are red for day three I believe demonstrates both of those things while we are in the beginning of Black History Month, we as black and Writer are possess with a unique reality. For as good as we are with our words, and our ability to adapt, the masters town known as the English language, we are aware that not so long ago it was illegal for us to even do that. let these words remind you that love is why we do most of our art, and love reminds us that there is so much yet to be done and farther to go. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/onthewritersblock/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/onthewritersblock/support

Want to play a game, Creep Street? On this episode, Maureen and Dylan discuss an iconic titan of terror that has horrified folks for decades! Talking Boards have been a method for contacting the other side for centuries, but in 1890 the Ouija was officially released upon the world. Seen as harmless in its early years, the Ouija Board quickly became feared as a tool of evil and an express ticket to demonic possession. More recently a specific demon known as Zozo has begun to plague users of the Ouija Board. Who is this entity? Then we cover Oujia encounters so scary they'll make your blood run cold! Citizens of the Milky Way, prepare yourselves for Ouija!

Spiritualism began during the 1840s in Hydesville, NY and adherents believe spirits of the dead can and do want to communicate with the living. By 1897, Spiritualism had more than 8 million followers, including: Queen Victoria, Mary Todd Lincoln, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Victorian seances were presided over by mediums who could dictate the spirits' message by means of rapping or knocking. Talking Boards, also known as witch, spirit, oracle or channeling boards were sometimes used. As talking boards became more mainstream and needed no medium, they soon found their way into many American homes.

Steve Winninger is the man to talk with about credit union boards and governance.A longtime credit union CEO - 20 years at Lake Trust - now a $1.6 billion institution based in Michigan - plus he also served as CEO at IBM Lexington and since retiring from Lake Trust he has put in stints as CEO at four credit unions (only one of which merged out of existence). But Steve is a rare CEO. He loves talking about the role of the board and - done right - a board should be crucial in a credit union's prosperity. But many CEOs grumble about board meddling. In other credit unions - mainly larger ones - it's the board that grumbles that they are ignored.Sigh.Hear Winninger's views on that dichotomy in this podcast. In this podcast Winninger spells out the four steps a good board must take. Must. No exceptions. We also talk about whether boards are ready and able to help in the immensely difficult decisions that loom as credit unions wrestle with the economic fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic. In this podcast we talk about some writing I did on Partners Credit Union - click the link and read about it. Nikki Folsom - Writer/Investigator https://www.facebook.com/NFolsomWriting/ http://www.thehauntedharlequin.com/ Nikki Folsom is an independent author whose fascination with the paranormal began early. She saw her first apparition at the young age of five. Strange experiences continued throughout her journey into adulthood. With limited resources and a new family, Nikki attempted to ignore the unexplainable activities and force herself into a “normal” reality. Her reality shifted quickly when her daughters began witnessing frightening occurrences of their own. Conflicted, she found herself with one of two choices - continue to pretend this activity wasn't occurring or facing it head on. After twenty seven unfulfilling years in corporate America and an intense curiosity in the paranormal, she made the decision to chase her dreams by diving head first into the world of writing. When she began volunteering at a haunted theater in 2009, she realized the historic location would be the perfect subject for her first publication. For months, Nikki invested time in researching and writing her first book, The Haunted Harlequin. Now that the book has been released, she plans to continue investigating, researching, and writing about other haunted locations from around the globe.Nikki was born in south central Pennsylvania. After a brief stop in Florida and Illinois, she and her family now call San Antonio, Texas home. When she’s not writing, Nikki enjoys reading, traveling, photography, theatre, and spending time with family and friends. She loves hearing ghost stories from her readers through email, social media, and at appearances. 9 “When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you. 13 You shall be blameless before the Lord your God. 14 For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has not appointed such for you.Deut 18
