What Does a Technical Theatre Director Do? Technical theatre directors oversee the operations of all technical equipment and systems during a performance, such as a music concert, theater show, play, or other artistic production. In this role, you manage the schedule and quality of the lights and sounds during the show, making sure they work properly and are turned on at the right time. You also collaborate with the set designers and technical professionals to build the set and scenery, construct props, and make the lighting design from the director or producer's vision drawings. During production, you may also offer advice about the feasibility of design ideas.

FADING LIGHTS - THE TRANSITION FROM CANDLE TO LED With Chris Van Goethem Powerpoint: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hsb8ba6etjozedu/Fading%20lights%20Kulturakademin%20v1_51.pdf?dl=0 Organizer: Kulturakademin in collaburation with YRGO, Folkteatern & Svensk Teaterteknisk Förening ”Lighting has always been an important part of theatre performance and changes in light sources have influenced the way performance, costume, sets and staging have developed. The joint research project of RITCS - School of Arts, Brussels and SADA - Stockholm, focusses on these changes and how practitioners dealt with them. The practice based approach, research by doing, is derived from the day to day research that is done in every theatre company when developing new techniques or effects. The goal is to develop useful insights for the contemporary practice. In this lecture we give an overview of the most important changes in lighting technology and the way they were implemented in theatre practice. The focus on the change processes and the issues and failures that came with them will throw a different light on contemporary and future challenges in changing technology. It will show the importance of understanding our heritage and history for the new innovative practice. Fundamentally, the history of lighting is about taking control over light as a physical phenomenon. It is the path from “turning on the light” towards “designing light”. It is about making magic with an untouchable element.” Chris Van Goethem Lecturer: Chris Van Goethem teaches at the stage management and technical theatre department of RITCS (EHB), Sabbattini Antwerp en Marotech Oujda (Marokko). He is a guest lecturer at Pianofabriek, Arteveldehogeschool, SFP, Accademia Teatro alla Scala, YRGO (Goteborg) and Frans Schartaus Handelsinstitut/Business Institute in Stockholm. He teaches History of Technical Theatre, Research skills, production management and Special Effects. He is responsible for the expertise centre for technical theatre of RITS, school of arts, Erasmus University College Brussels and is involved in research on education, competence management, history and technical theatre. (https://www.podiumtechnieken.be/en ) He researches the history of technical theatre and was part of the “Changement a vue” research project. At the moment he is part of the Fading lights project. This week Ralph sat down for a chat with British-born and expat-to-Portugal photographer Anna Gunn.Anna was born in Birmingham, England, in the 80s. Graduated in Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering, but the aerospace industry crash in the beginning of the 21st century forced her to look for other avenues. The passion for the performing arts, especially Stage Lighting, took her to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, where she graduated in Stage Management and Technical Theatre. After some time spent on tours and slightly tired of the constant cold and the rain, Anna packed all her stuff and moved to a nicer climate, settling down in Maia, Portugal, in 2009.Since then her journey has taken her on a path to creating the very first Porto Photo Fest due to launch in September 2017.The Porto Photo Fest is an event where people can learn more than what’s already available online – content that you can’t get anywhere else. This festival will give you the unique opportunity to go deeper into the creative process with a group of talented and accomplished professionals. And you’ll do it in a UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Porto is a very special place where you can virtually step back in time. There is huge pride in this city, its stories and traditions. Its colour, texture and design make every corner of the city a photographer’s dream backdrop.Aside from the festival, the conversation touched a number of topics regarding Portugal and the city of Porto, including its culture, food and wine, and the best spots for photography.Duration 41m 11s.Music for this episode: “Zanzibar” Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/Links* Porto Photo Fest Website* Facebook* Instagram See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
