Should they rely on the expertise of industry juries or should we let the people decide? We explore the evolution of Eurovision's constantly evolving selection process, and talk about the different implications of its varying forms.   Then we talk to Gjon's Tears, whose song Tout L'universe was a favorite of the juries, but was prevented from winning because of the televote-- eventually placing 3rd overall. We talk about everything from his experience at Eurovision, to his search for identity and belonging through music, to how his 2021 performance helped him overcome his body insecurity.   Finally, we chat with Michael Hsu Rosen who performed with the NYC Ballet, before going on to star in several popular Netflix hits (Pretty Smart, Glamorous). He draws on his experience operating in artistic worlds that are ruled alternately by expert and public opinion to explore why certain songs are jury favorites, and why others steal the heart of the people.   SONG LINKS   Mentioned in Deep Dive Loreen - Tattoo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3vJfR81xO0 Kaarija - Cha Cha Cha - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJHe-iZ5HSI   Gjon's Tears - Tout L'Univers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuimHmJMEFA   Mentioned in the Game   Keiino - Spirit in the Sky (Norway 2019) - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x799hq2 Zdob si Zdub - Trenuletul (Moldova 2022) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9RJQPZsj8E Il Volo - Grande Amore (Italy 2015) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TOMqZV2jA8 Destiny - Je Me Casse (Malta 2019) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TdBbLVCAzk Tamara Todevska - Proud (North Macedonia 2019) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sw-NQ1a1zZ0 Konstrakta - In Corpore Sano (Serbia 2022) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odFhYxoXiuo Teya and Selena - Who the Hell is Edgar? Joel is a beautiful ballet dancer that has trained extensively with The Australian Ballet School and Queensland Ballet Academy. In fact, we both share a deep love and respect for Paul Boyd who listeners of the pod are well acquainted with having both been taught by him for many years. During our conversation we dive into Joel's experience as a Prix de Lausanne finalist and how he has decided to move away from the traditional route of becoming a professional ballet dancer to explore feature film opportunities, event management and anything else that tickles his fancy when it comes to shaking up this industry. Can you see why I'm a big fan of Joel? Young and full of spirit with just the right amount of rebel in him that shows respect to the dance industry whilst simultaneously questioning past practices and look at reinventing the wheel. Because of this I'm officially a Joel fan and I think you will be too after listening to this conversation. Joel's most recent endeavour is to bring the most talented ballet dancers from across the world together to showcase their incredible ability over a series of two intimate evenings at South Bank's Piazza Auditorium, which is an incredible outdoor stage that's fully undercover. Perfect for covid times! Shortened to BIG, the Ballet International Gala is the perfect mix of international and local partners with Julian Mackay (Principal dancer with San Francisco Ballet) and Lauren Lovette (former Principal dancer with NYC Ballet) amongst others bringing some international heat with the local likes of Mia Heathcote (Senior Soloist with Queensland Ballet) and Victor Estevez (Principal with Queensland Ballet). Attracting art and ballet enthusiasts, this event is actually going to be like no other. Joel wants you to feel like you're at a ballet festival whilst celebrating the artists like rockstars and highlighting the importance of bringing ballet to the people. BIG is on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th June of this year (I'll actually be attending the Friday performance!) and you can purchase tickets from balletinternationalgala.com - I hope to see you there and whilst I have only met Joel the once for this interview, I am so proud of this young mans ability to form an amazing team around him and shoot for the moon. __________________ Get your FREE Balanced Ballerinas 'Intention Setting' worksheet HERE and start kicking GOALS: https://www.balancedballerinas.com/product/balanced-ballerinas-intention-setting-worksheet/ You can find more resources at www.balancedballerinas.com Instagram @thebalancedballerina Podcast @balancedballerinas Facebook - Balanced Ballerinas (ensure you join the *SECRET* Facebook group too!)

Shania wishes to inspire those that see her, encouraging them to “not be afraid of who you really are and to work hard to be the best version of yourself”. Ava Holloway has performed with Central Virginia Dance Academy since 2009 and is a member of Joni at St. Catherine’s School, where she served as Co-Captain and was awarded the Creative Crystal Dance Award. She enjoys hanging out with friends and making crazy dances and recently co-authored a book, My Ancestors’ Wildest Dreams. In this episode, Shania and Ava talks about their goals and visions for BBFC, their reactions for being viral (being painted in a mural and being on the news?), and what they think will never get out of fashion.

Georgina Pazcoguin, now playing Victoriathe Cat in Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic musical CATS joins host Robin Milling. For the sake of familiarity, Gina met Robin for an informal chat in Central Park with her adorable black Labs in tow, Jett and Marco, to talk about her turn as the white cat. Gina tells Robin walking in the park is essential for her to wind down on her days off from her hectic Broadway schedule; doing eight shows a week. A day in the life of CATS for Gina begins with ballet class where she puts on her pointe shoes so she can keep herself in shape for the vigorous Andy Blankenbuehler dance work-out followed by acupuncture and physical therapy. On hiatus as a soloist for The New York City Ballet, she had to learn how to apply her own Victoria make-up which proved to be a learning curve for the self-described “rogue ballerina.” While still working with NYC Ballet, she practiced in her dressing room psyching herself up with songs like Cat Scratch Fever and What's New cat. Cat themes are all the rage backstage at the Neil Simon Theater where becoming a cat entailed studying videos and channeling your inner feline nature. Gina tells Robin she modelled Victoria after a close friend's cat named Emma, “she is this beautiful white-gray cat who is kind of like a dog. She come when you call. She is a little shy. And kind of my inspiration for Victoria.” Listen here for more behind-the-scenes stories including “owning her body in a white unitard” and a very special opening night gift Gina gave her CATS cast mates.
