Welcome to the third in the series: Being the Child God Made You where we're exploring how we fill God with joy. Excerpts: It is as if John the Evangelist, John who had laid his head on the heart of Christ at the last supper and listened to the love that beat in his Lord's most sacred and divine Heart, was trying to find the words to convince us that we are God's children. Certainly, we've heard that a billion times before: with baptism we become God's children. Do we consider how BIG A DEAL this is? My niece and nephew often played fondly with children of their friends. But now that they have their own child, it is a different story altogether. This is THEIR CHILD.... Ask the Holy Spirit to help you slow down enough to catch the thoughts you say to yourself about what things mean and who you are. Notice which type of thoughts make you feel happy, rested, trusting. And which thoughts depress, sadden, and frustrate you. Make a list of each. At the beginning of the day visualize two or three things you know will happen that day and watch yourself internalizing the thoughts of a CHILD OF GOD. At the end of the day you can look briefly back at these same situations and notice where the other type of thoughts snuck in. Relive the situation in your mind at that point internalizing the attitudes and beliefs of a CHILD OF GOD.... To connect to more resources for spiritual formation: www.touchingthesunrise.com

My guest, Stephanie Malia Krauss, is an expert on helping you help your kiddos to thrive in this complicated world! How do we make sure our kids are well? We have a youth mental health crisis. How can we support them to support their mental wellbeing?  Stephanie, as a mom, she wants her own kids to thrive so what she shares comes straight from her mama heart. She starts by looking at the whole child. Who there are in their entirety. Then she looks at practices they can adopt for a lifetime to help them in areas such as mental health, and relationships. From there, she builds a plan for wholeness and wellbeing for the rest of their lives.  In this episode we look at these areas while Stephanie provides a roadmap for all parents to help their kids even if they are struggling, suffering or traumatized. The brain body connection is something we dive into because there are EASY things, we can be doing with our kids physically, that support their bodies, development, ability to learn and help them to thrive.  Also learn more about: Injury, Illness and Inflammation and why they can influence your child's behavior, mood and emotions. This episode is from a video I did called "10 Things Dads Should Never Say to Their Child". Words can be damaging and can potentially have long term effects on the child. We do need to be careful about what we say to our children and be mindful of how our words can effect them. Of course as they get older we teach them resilience and that words aren't as important but because we are their parents, what we say has a lot of value. I hope you enjoy this episode. Parenting Mindset with Cindy Brown It's utterly crushing when we hear our children speak negatively of themselves or fixate on something that they think they didn't do well enough.  We swoop in as their biggest cheerleaders with loads of positivity and evidence that they are worthy and amazing.  We react to these moments whenever they pop up and put the sunniest bandaid on that moment hoping it's enough.  As a veteran educator and family mindset coach, Cindy Brown shares that these moments stem from the child's internal thoughts and beliefs that come from their experiences and the messaging they receive.  Even if they are surrounded by cheerleaders and loving adults, their internal thoughts can often be fixed and negative. Cindy explains that unless we work on developing a mindset as a family, the supportive parenting strategies may not be as effective. Family mindset is a common language, shared values, and a practice that is a foundation for encouraging our children's confidence and grit.  From the adults all the way to the littlest of children, everyone has the tools, understanding, and safe space to practice exploring, experimenting, and sharing experiences and emotions rather than expectations.   Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Hear how Cindy pivoted from being in education for 30 years to creating her business at the beginning of the pandemic. As a result of everything going online, she was able to extend her reach well beyond her network and community.   Discover strategies to relieve the stressful tension around expectations and assumptions in us and our children as we move back into the classrooms. Be inspired by Cindy's mindset and practices around being in the early stages of development as an entrepreneur. In the last seven years as an educator, Cindy's observations of how children's environment and experience deeply affected their internal thoughts led her to mindset development work.   Cindy began planning her move into entrepreneurship two years before her planned retirement.  She had little to no experience in business so she focussed on finding women who had success in this area.  She joined The Junior League of Phoenix and the Powerhouse Women Community.  These spaces gave her opportunities to grow in diff areas--committee work, social media, fundraising, promotion, marketing, networking, etc Pivoting at the Beginning of a Pandemic As Cindy's pivot coincided with the pandemic and everything going virtual, she began to build her cache of video content. As a result, she was able to share her message and program well beyond her built-in community in education in her local area.   She spoke at conferences with participants from all around the world.  Her videos are also viewed around the world.  Common Block for Parents with Tweens and Teens Awareness--Internal thoughts start at a very early age and mindset development needs support much sooner than we notice. Convenience--It seems easier to make choices for our children regarding schedules, activities, and their path.  But this doesn't create space for a child to develop a sense of responsibility, agency, or worth.    Communication--Parents often make statements instead of asking supportive and open questions.  Statements and expectations mold the internal thoughts and messages while open questions allow for exploration, curiosity, and connection.    Tips for Parenting that Empowers Know your internal messaging and history of messaging as a child.   Become an emotional scientist by asking questions that inspire curiosity around an upcoming experience (new experiences in school as we transition to in-person this fall).  “I wonder who you'll get for math?”,  “I wonder if there will be new clubs to join?”, “I wonder what xyz will be like?”, rather than “The first day will be so great!”, “You're going to do so great!”   Talk in terms of goals we have as a family for school, friendship, community, etc.   Have a family charter of three main values and talk about what this looks like and means for each member.  It becomes a reference point or guidepost to support conversations and experiences we have.   Cindy's Entrepreneurial Mindset When entrepreneurship is a roller coaster, Cindy remembers “Even though I'm ready I have to wait until they're ready.” “What I'm doing is going to make a difference.  I know this because I did the work and I live it now. I felt the change and more balanced and less stressed--I taught it for years but it wasn't until I walked through it and lived it...when it became more than words”   “They might be small steps in the big picture but I am going forward because I keep showing up”   Cindy's Non Negotiables A firm but flexible routine and schedule.  There are things I want to get done and I make time for movement, quiet time like guided meditation, or watching the dog explore, and journaling. Recording everything on all the calendars and keeping all engagements on Calendly.   Cooking and eating well and not on the run. For the Parent that is Struggling with Their Child(ren) Start with self by observing and remembering your own internal messaging.   Reflect on how you communicate.  Are you trying to be a cheerleader while coming off as a judge? Reflect on whether you are making more statements or asking more questions?   About Cindy Cindy Brown is a Family Mindset Strategist who works with parents to identify their unique vision and goals for their family.  She is an award-winning veteran educator with 30 years of experience and 24 years of experience raising her own children.  Her experience and coaching expertise guide parents, school districts, and other educators in creating empowerment and fulfillment in children's lives.   Cindy is actively involved in serving her community, supporting many organizations  that support women, as well as, disadvantaged children.  She is an active member of Junior League of Phoenix in a leadership role, serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented, and Chairs the statewide Parent's Institute Conference.   Cindy Brown offers a highly personalized 10 week one-on-one coaching package for families that can include co parents, grandparents, etc.  She also does group sessions and public speaking for parent groups, school districts, PTOs, and nonprofits.   Enjoy the Podcast? *** Disclaimer ***  This episode contains talk about death and losing a loved one/child I get to talk to Roni Lambrecht about her real estate business and losing a child.  About Roni:      My husband and I lost our only child 5 years + 11 months ago in an ATV accident. Since then, we have really taken notice of families not paying attention to each other; either distracted by activities, books, or electronics/cell phones, yet spending lots of money going out to dinner or traveling to wonderful places, only to find themselves still "connected" to everyone other than their children. That said, I spend a lot of time working with and speaking to, parents about valuing the small moments within the daily chaos of life versus always working toward the big things/events/vacations. While it's important to have goals to work toward, we must always remember that it's really about the small moments in each day, as those are the moments where real memories are made. Gain knowledge about taking advantage of the small daily events that life gives us; doing chores together, reading/music/learning together, planning events/trips together, etc. Learn how journaling has affected our lives and hopefully choose to journal to their own children… tangible and emotional benefits. Reminders that their words and actions toward and in front of their children do matter. Roni and John have been married since 1995 and live in Castle Rock, Colorado. The woman who wants to be known simply as "Their Child" emailed me asking to read aloud her email text. I don't have time, so I used text to speech instead. As always, I am putting this out there as "Catholic vs. Other" without rebuttal. God help us all.

The woman who wants to be known simply as "Their Child" emailed me asking to do Part 2, so I agreed. She says she had a private revelation from her Father about the symbolic meaning of the human umbilical cord. I let her talk without interruption.

Today's Extraordinary Women Radio interview with Roni Wing-Lambrecht will touch your heart and have you hugging those you love! I'm deeply moved by Roni's story - she lost her son Dalton in a tragic ATV accident. Dalton, lived his short life creating smiles, laughter, and happiness by sharing his kind spirit and helping others through tough times. Roni and her husband, John, now continue his legacy by practicing random acts of kindness in Dalton's memory each day. Roni knows first hand, how important it is to cherish every moment we get with our loved ones, and has written 3 books to help parents live in-the-moment with their own children by sharing their truths about regret and finding beauty in the everyday chaos of family life. She published 3 books since Dalton's passing, Parenting at Your Best; Powerful Reflections and Straightforward Tips for Becoming a Mindful Parent; A Parent's Guide for Journaling to Their Child; Simple Strategies for Writing Heartfelt Love Letters to Your Child; and A Parent's Journal to Their Child; With Simple Strategies for Writing Heartfelt Love Letters to Your Child. Roni’s story will touch your heart and have you hugging those you love. And for me – that’s what life is about. Let’s meet Roni Wing Lambrecht.

1 in 5 Parents Think What They Say Has Little Influence on Their Child's choices. Wrong. Even if you feel that you and your teen are not connecting on the level that you may wish you would, your words stick in their brains, whether they want them to or not. The issue here is not that teens do not know right from wrong, but that adults hardly take the time to gently nudge them in the right direction. Ultimately, their choice is their own, but if you think your words have no impact on a child, think again. Children tend to think that their actions are of little consequence. After all, they’re just a kid. No one listens to them anyway. It's important, not only for them to know that we are listening, and that we care, but to see that their peers are listening as well.

Arrows—not real arrows which is a simile—Your children are like arrows, you need to make sure you aim them in the right direction. I like to say don’t use correction without direction. If you are going to tell your kids what to do, make sure you give them the proper equipment or directions before sending them out into the world. Stats * ⎝ Kids/teens are twice as likely to be aggressive and disruptive if they had parents who were violent, critical or inconsistent in what they allowed them to get away with at home. * ⎝ 1 in 5 Parents Think What They Say Has Little Influence on Their Child's choices. The reverse is also true. For teens whose parents were involved during key moments, not only were teens less likely to participate in those same behaviors, but teens were also happier people.
