I came into farming really, as I got into it, being like--I'm a grower. That's where I want to grow my expertise; how to be a better caretaker for these animals, how to be more efficient with my time, with the land that we're using. To lean on people who are in processing, lean on them because their resources, their expertise are in processing or on the kosher side, lean on those people who really know what is required for it, bring them in and have them apply their expertise. The growth for me has been really needing to not just understand those other pieces much more, but also get much more directly involved. Robert Friedman is the founder and owner of Robariah Farms. Located in the Connecticut River Valley of Western Massachusetts, Robariah Farms specializes in local, pasture-raised, kosher-certified poultry and other meats. Robariah Farms raises slow-growing poultry breeds that thrive on pasture. Sustainable pasture management practices, including daily rotation of mobile shelters, provide animals with continuous access to fresh pasture, sunlight, and clean air, supporting healthy, vibrant life. For processing, Robariah Farms applies an ethical, humane framework through its kosher certification. Local, kosher supervising agencies oversee the slaughter, plucking, evisceration, salting/brining, and packaging of each animal, certifying a higher standard of quality for the meat. Robariah Farms offers CSA meat shares directly to customers, as well as wholesale discounts to food co-ops, farm stores, caterers, and institutions across New England. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Robert Friedman discuss:Focusing on the client and what their needs are, both physical and psychographic. The five questions Robert asks each of his questions. Setting your aperture appropriately. Understanding your positioning and making it work for you. Key Takeaways:When you can position yourself precisely, you won't attract everyone, but you will attract the right clients to your firm. You have to do both the strategy work and the research work to know that you're landing in the right space with your branding. If your message is not resonating with your potential referral sources and clients, then workshop it. Ask for feedback and be willing to listen. You don't want to spin your wheels when a simple change could bring business growth. Focus on what makes you unique and make sure that comes across to your clients and potential clients. "The number one way to differentiate is to really think about what you value and what you stand for and put that upfront." — Robert Friedman Take the BE THAT LAWYER challenge at Fretzin.com! I work with experts in law and consulting who are at the top of their game, but whose firms are not realizing their full potential. They want bigger clients and more lucrative cases/engagements but they struggle to get traction with their ideal clients. Here's what I find: Frequently, professional services and consulting firms deliver powerful, unique expertise but they don't reap the rewards because the way they define their value is generic. They're not controlling their own narrative. For over 20 years, I've worked with expert firms to transform the way they present themselves to their market. We define their unique brilliance and develop a winning narrative that answers their prospects' most important question: “Why should we choose you.” My work delivers a complete brand transformation: I deliver firms a new way to talk about themselves and position themselves precisely in the minds of their ideal clients. Deliverables include brand identities, website (including all messaging), thought leadership marketing and guidance for the right language for business development conversations. Results are significant increase in average engagement size, driven by increased clarity and confidence. Before Fearless Branding I was in brand management for Kraft and other major food companies, and I was a “Mad Man” for big New York City advertising agencies. Federal prosecutors say the man accused of attacking Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, told police he wanted to hold the speaker hostage and “break her kneecaps.” David DePape has been charged with two federal crimes and a state count of attempted murder. Nancy Pelosi says her husband is making progress and thanked those for sending messages of support. Chicago Police say as many as 15 people were injured in a drive-by shooting Halloween night, including three children. A new study suggests vaccinating pregnant women protects their newborns from the common but scary respiratory virus called RSV. There were no big treats from the Halloween night Powerball drawing, as none of the tickets sold matched all six numbers. The lack of a winner means the next drawing Wednesday night will be for a massive $1.2 billion jackpot. Hard of hearing, Thomas Edison found a unique way to appreciate piano music. As someone played, the great inventor would lean in close to the instrument, right above the keys, and he'd bite the piano. Robert Friedman recently showed off marks on a Steinway grand piano once owned by Edison — a cluster of shallow indentations roughing up the black lacquer above the keyboard. Former President Donald Trump is going to the Supreme Court, again, this time to try to stop his tax returns from being handed to a congressional committee. Millions of Americans can begin selecting their 2023 health insurance plans on HealthCare.gov on Tuesday. With some help from Twitter's new owner, misinformation about the grievous attack on U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband is surging online. A federal judge has blocked Penguin Random House's proposed purchase of Simon & Schuster. The judge issued a brief ruling Monday, agreeing with the Justice Department that the joining of two of the world's biggest publishers could “lessen competition” for “top-selling books.” Members of the Supreme Court's conservative majority are questioning the continued use of affirmative action in higher education. In lengthy arguments Monday, the justices wrestled with persistent, difficult questions of race. A former Michigan police officer who shot a Black motorist in the back of the head will stand trial for second-degree murder. That's the decision a judge in Grand Rapids, Michigan, announced Monday morning. David DePape faces charges following an attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Authorities have arrested a drugstore worker in the slayings of two teenage girls who were killed in the woods outside their small town in Northern Indiana nearly six years ago. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are defending a decision by OPEC and its allies to cut oil production. The development came on Monday at a conference in the United Arab Emirates — even as an American envoy warned of “economic uncertainty” ahead for the world. President Joe Biden plans to raise the possibility of imposing a ‘windfall tax' on oil companies if they don't boost domestic production. A massive barrage of Russian strikes has hit critical infrastructure in Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities in Ukraine. The attacks on Monday morning knocked out water and power supplies in apparent retaliation for what Moscow alleged was a Ukrainian attack on its Black Sea Fleet over the weekend. Intellectual property rights provide intangible yet valuable assets that multinationals can leverage in the 21st century. One such exclusive property right is trade secrets. Almost every business has the potential to create trade secrets. What is a trade secret and how can companies acquire and, more importantly, protect these intellectual property rights? Joining me for this conversation is Robert Friedman, who provides a roadmap for employers looking to properly care for, protect, and possibly defend their company trade secrets. Robert is a partner and Practice Group Leader of the Business Trial Practice Group and is based in the Sheppard Mullin New York office. He is also head of the firm’s South Asia team and a member of the White Collar and International Arbitration groups. Robert focuses on business and corporate litigation matters and internal investigations. He has tried over 70 cases and regularly represents financial institutions, technology companies, media companies and litigation trustees in significant business disputes, including those involving trade secrets, software theft, non-compete, securities and license agreements. What We Discussed in This Episode: What is a trade secret? Is there an intersection between trade secrets and patents? Are there mechanical checks that companies must follow to maintain their trade secrets? How can companies enforce and defend against trade secret violations? What type of actions give rise to trade secret disputes? What are some considerations a potential trade secret plaintiff should consider prior to filing a complaint? If a company finds itself as a defendant in a trade secret lawsuit, what protocols should it follow to help their case? How should a company approach arbitration when dealing with international litigation? What are some general guidelines companies should follow to ensure proper care and protection of trade secrets? Extreme Genes - America's Family History and Genealogy Radio Show & Podcast
Host Scott Fisher opens the show with David Allen Lambert, Chief Genealogist of the New England Historic Genealogical Society and AmericanAncestors.org. The guys open the show with news that the National Genealogical Society conference for 2020 is going virtual. Hear when it is and how you can be a part of it. Then, a “social distancing happy hour” has resulted in a couple of families getting to know each other and learning that they’re related… and not that far back… in Norway! Next, it’s amazing how close America came to losing baseball great Babe Ruth in the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. Hear the story of how close he came, and how close America came to never having seen the later “Sultan of Swat.” Another cold case has been solved and it never gets old. Find out about the latest crime breakthrough using DNA. Next, Photo Detective Maureen Taylor talks about creating a “pandemic archive” or “coronavirus photo album.” We’re each having our own experiences in this mess. Maureen has some great thoughts on what to photograph and how to put it all together for the benefit of future generations. Then, Chris Desmond from Memory Web and Robert Friedman from Permanent continue the photo theme. Visiting with Fisher, they explain the new group they are a part of that will hopefully result in the creation of standards so that metadata… all the information about a photo such as who, where, when, what, etc…. stays with the picture as it is shared from platform to platform. Without the metadata you lose all context about a picture. It’s an important project that we can all play a role in. Next, David Allen Lambert returns to join Fisher for Ask Us Anything. The guys tackle a question on an odd DNA result as well as another on pension records from the Spanish American War. That’s all this week on Extreme Genes, America’s Family History Show!

Bob Friedman has been at the forefront of building wealth in low-income communities for decades. He founded Corporation for Enterprise Development in 1979, (recently renamed Prosperity Now) to develop, test and implement the strategies needed to move low-income people into the economic mainstream. These strategies, now proven to be highly effective, have and continue to be the foundation for Prosperity Now's public policy advocacy at the local, state and federal levels. Bob talks to Power Station about his new book, A Few Thousand Dollars, which, through stories, illustrations and well-tested theories, provides a template for building wealth and creating a more equitable America. Despite our nation's wealth inequality and racial wealth gap, Bob's hopefulness is unfaltering. He agrees with Sen. Cory Booker, who wrote the book's afterword, that we know how to address the challenge. The question is whether we have the will. It takes determined organizations, individuals and elected officials to invest in and bring strategies, such as Matched Savings Accounts to life and to scale. The stories and data are irrefutable. The next steps rest with us. A Few Thousand Dollars: Sparking Prosperity for Everyone, was published by The New Press, a nonprofit, public interest publisher.

For the first time ever, bestselling author Eckhart Tolle brings the core of his teachings to children, ages 7 to 100. Beautifully illustrated and artfully expressed, this charming story will bring joy to children and their parents for decades to come. Milton, who is about eight years old, is experiencing bullying on the school playground at the hands of a boy named Carter. Because he is being picked on, Milton no longer enjoys going to school. In fact, he dreads each morning because of his fear of Carter. By discovering the difference between Then, When, and the Now, Milton is able to shed his fear of being bullied. Living in the Now, he no longer dreads encountering Carter--and this changes everything. Milton's Secret will not only appeal to the millions of adult readers of Tolle's other books, but also to any parent who wants to introduce their children to the core of Tolle's teachings: Living in the Now is the quickest path to ending fear and suffering.
