Tiding us over until we get to our Build Fighters wrapup and our next series, here's episode 16 of Kevin and Geremy being confused about Gundam Wing.
Narrated by Abu Hurairah: from Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2646, Book 41, Hadith 2 : The Virtue Of Seeking Knowledge [that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him."] As a rule of thumb, any hadith which contradicts the Qur'an should be considered null and void. Only the Qur'an is the absolute authentic text which has remained intact throughout. Al Qur'an is the word of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى and Hadiths are just for our reference. May we receive mercy from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala and also receive guidance to gather sufficient supplies so that we are safe and comfortable in Mahsyar facing Allah SWT being entered into heaven by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala without reckoning and also punishment. Surah mentioned : - Surah Adh~Dhariyat 51, verse 24 - 25 : (The Winnowing Winds) [ Has the story of Ibrahim's honoured guests reached you (O Prophet)? (Remember) when they entered his presence and greeted (him with), “Peace!” He replied, “Peace (be upon you)!” (Then he said to himself,) “These are an unfamiliar people.” ] - Surah Adh~Dhariyat 51, verse 26 - 27 : (The Winnowing Winds) Then he slipped off to his family and brought a fat roasted calf, and placed it before them, asking, “Will you not eat?” ] - Surah Adh~Dhariyat 51, verse 28 : (The Winnowing Winds) They did not eat, so he grew fearful of them. They reassured him, “Do not be afraid,” and gave him good news of a knowledgeable son. ] - Surah Adh~Dhariyat 51, verse 29 - 30 : (The Winnowing Winds) Then his wife came forward with a cry, clasping her forehead in astonishment, exclaiming, “A baby from a barren, old woman!” They replied, “Such has your Lord decreed. He is truly the All-Wise, All-Knowing.” ] - Surah Hud 11, verse 70 : [ And when he saw that their hands did not reach for the food, he became suspicious and fearful of them. They reassured him, “Do not be afraid! We are angels sent only against the people of Lut.” ] - Surah Hud 11, verse 71 : [ And his wife was standing by, so she laughed, then We gave her good news of (the birth of) Ishaq, and, after him, Ya'qoob. ] - Surah Hud 11, verse 72 : [ She wondered, “Oh, my! How can I have a child in this old age, and my husband here is an old man? This is truly an astonishing thing!” - Surah Hud 11, verse 73 : [ They responded, “Are you astonished by Allah's decree? May Allah's mercy and blessings be upon you, O people of this house. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, All-Glorious.” ] - Surah Al Hijr 15, verse 54 - 55 : (The Rocky Tract) [ He wondered, “Do you give me good news despite my old age? What unlikely news!” They responded, “We give you good news in all truth, so do not be one of those who despair.” ]

Hello everyone! This is just a quick announcement to let you know that Ryne will be crowdfunding on Indiegogo this Thursday, 21st of July. Head to our pre-launch page if you want to find out more, and get notified when we launch! Ryne is the game that we played during our first season, Tiding. We've been working on it since before we launched that series in 2018. All told, we've spent probably five years turning it into the game that we want it to be. We feel like it's reached the point where we're ready to bring it to print. We're really proud of it and hope, especially if you're a listener, that it's something that will provide the perfect companion to our show with details about the world and rules for playing your own games of Ryne. We'll bring some more news once we go live, but for now we'd appreciate people signing up for our pre-launch. Basically, the more people that sign up before we launch, the smoother everything goes for us and it becomes more likely that we hit some of our more exciting stretch goals! We'll also be giving one person who signs up a free fabric map of Ryne, added to their pledge. - adam

Hello everyone! Unfortunately, there's no new episode today. Thryn is in the middle of submitting their PhD and then taking a well-earned break, so instead we'll release the next part of Embrace either next week or the one after. Sorry if you were looking forward to finding out what's happening with the Lodge and Ash and the horrible, possessed carousel. You'll just have to wait a little bit longer. In other exciting news, we've just released the new playkit for Ryne, the game we play in Tiding! This is the final major update before we hopefully Kickstart next year, so we wanted to tell you about it. We're really proud of the were it is. We've spent a lot of time finessing and reworking its core systems so that it works for the kind of thoughtful fantasy we want to tell (and we hope other groups will want to tell too!). The playkit has four rolebooks (the Guide, Heart, Tethered and Weaver), two ways to play including a quickstart and a load of advice for the Fates to help you run the game. Please, check it out and let us know what you think. You can get the playkit for free here.

Episode contains spoilers for Tiding season one. Hi everyone! Due to a combination of deadlines and illness we're not releasing a new Embrace episode this week. We're going to take a little bit more time to put the episode together, we'll be releasing it next Sunday instead. We're releasing this bonus clips episode in its place. It's a collection of outtakes, goofs, and pre-recording chat that didn't make it into the episodes. Enjoy! If you're part of our discord you might have heard these clips before. If you're not, come and join and chat about the show. We often share little bonus bits like this there, whether that's silly clips that were too good to leave unheard or behind the scenes looks at These Flimsy Rituals. Also, if you're into the rules for Tiding and want to know more about the game, Ryne, Adam shares glimpses into the development of the game there too. As always, we wanted to say thank you for continuing to listen to and support the show. We've been doing this for nearly two years now and getting shares, reviews, and feedback from our fans is the thing that motivates us to keep doing this. One of the genuinely nice things about doing both Tiding and Embrace has been seeing you all talking about the characters and scenes you've enjoyed! Cheers from The Flimsy Rituals crew!
Tides rise and fall. Believe it or not, we can tie tides to the discussions of loans and toilet paper during this strange time, when so many of us are being asked to stay at home.
Employees across most industries are experiencing one of the three situations— indefinite leave without pay, deep pay cuts or layoffs. Salary cuts and job loss definitely means changing the way you live and spend, but you need to play smart to tide over the situation with minimum pain. On this episode, Mint's Disha Sanghvi tells you how to deal with the two situations.
The past decade has seen the mobility sector undergo rapid change and transformation towards a more sustainable and efficient paradigm. However, the outbreak of the coronavirus has thrown a spanner in the works. Both the demand and supply-side disruptions have resulted in mobility ecosystem players scrambling to improve their operational and financial impacts, while minimising the impact on workers. What does this mean for the Future of Mobility?

“Belka, you asked me before about my exile, about how I came to join Vilte’s parish, about why I left Embrace. I think I’m just about ready to tell that story. Now, there’s a lot to hear - about the revolution, about the Ginnels and the Swifts, the bastard nim Shifs and the defiant Maybes. First though, let’s start with what’s important: that city is a fucking hole.” ~~~ Welcome to season two of These Flimsy Rituals: Embrace. We’re playing a game of Blades in the Dark by John Harper, telling the story of a revolution in a city built on the corpses of two dead gods. This season takes place in the same world as season one, Tiding, but it’s telling a stand-alone story. You don’t have to have listened to that season to listen to Embrace - in fact, we feel that Embrace to be a really good point to jump in. It’s set 25 years before the events of Tiding, it’s a little bit faster-paced, it’s going to be shorter and more focused. This is the first of our worldbuilding episodes. We play The Ground Itself by Everest Pipkin, a game about places over time. In this, and the next two episodes, we’ll be focusing on one part of our city - Atrium - to build a picture of what life here is like. "Where their corpses lay, an island formed. And then a city. Its citizens named it for the remnant's struggle, they named it Embrace." ~~~ Hey! We're excited to share the trailer for season two of These Flimsy Rituals, Embrace. We're going to be playing a game of Blades in the Dark by John Harper, following a crew of radicals fighting to change Embrace - a city formed on the bodies of two dead gods. It's a stand-alone season. It shares the same setting as season one, Tiding - but it's set twenty-five years earlier. You don't have to have listened before, it's designed to be a good point to jump in. We'll be kicking the new season off on the 22nd of March. ~~~ Follow the show on twitter @flimsyrituals Find our website at flimsyrituals.com Chat to us on Discord ~~~ Series art by Ben Swinden Hosted by Adam Dixon. “Friends, I don’t know how much you’ve heard about this place. I don’t know whether you’ve heard the stories - the rumours - about what has happened here in the past. This is the story of Carn’s Brook. You’ve heard of this surely?” *** Around a crackling fire, four storytellers gather - maybe in a cabin, perhaps beneath uncovered stars. There they share stories - of singing sheep, of the biggest squash you've ever seen, of a painted mountain. We play a special game of HISTORY IS GONE BUT WE REMEMBER by Ben Roswell. It’s a game about histories shared and created through oral storytelling. It’s set in the same world as Tiding but is a stand-alone story. If you’re new to These Flimsy Rituals, this could be a good starting point! *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). "As the eater of gods approached, Duier set out its last will and testament - and Corpus would be stricken from it. Carn Vers was its bastion and from that broken mountain it directed its servants. Those who could rushed to the borders, carrying Cenja’s secrets with them. That which was left behind, Grafan buried - so deep as to never be disinterred. Duier's great library was unwritten, given to Belka, the only person used to carrying such sorrow. Its buildings were torn down, gravestones shattered, engravings uncarved themselves. One by one its envoys became a part of Duier once more. Then, when it could hold Corpus back no longer, it brought about its own end. Keen, once a priest of a ghostly moon, saw to both of their unravellings." *** Hey all, this week's episode is a special one. It features three stories, each tying up some the events of the first season. With the final episodes each being individual ones, we wanted to bring everything together and give an impression of where all the pieces ended up. We also wanted to share a few production updates, which are gone into in more detail in the episode, but essentially: This Tuesday, 11th February, we're doing a Q&A about our first season. You can join us live at 9pm GMT - we'll link from our twitter - or we'll be releasing it as a later episode. We're going to be taking some time before releasing season 2 - we want to make sure that that season is the best it can be. We have some episodes lined up before we kick off - the Q&A and a Shard & Fragments episode - so we'll probably be sticking to our release schedule. Season 2 is Embrace. We're going to be playing Blades in the Dark, by John Harper. We'll be telling another story set in Ryne, but around 25 years earlier. The second season of Tiding will be after Embrace - we're imagining it'll be sometime in 2021, depending on how long the next season is. As always, thank you so much for listening. We wouldn't be doing what we're doing without you. x *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: Death “...Belka, when the earth around it has dried too completely to sustain it, the stone fern gathers up its leaves close and pulls up its own roots from the earth - we cannot hear the cries of plants, but we must assume that it hurts it some to do so - but still it does so, and it lets the winds take it with them until it finds what it is looking for. And perhaps it settles there or moves on again and again, but each time it must it takes the risk - because staying where the dry stone sucks the life away from it is undoubtedly the worst fate it can imagine” - Karuum, the Heart of Growth *** Belka, following Duier's request, arrives at the top of Carn Vers. There they meet the remnant formed of fog and mist, grief and memory. There Belka gets a glimpse of Corpus' dark path. There Belka hears Duier's final words. Belka meets an old friend, sort of. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). "Tomorrow we’re going camping! Bris promised forever ago and is finally going to take us. It’ll be me and Korrin, but Venz, Belka and Femrir are coming too. I’m not sure how many tents we’re taking, or even if we’re taking tents. I hope Bris doesn’t try to make us sleep outside again. It’s going to be great. Bris says that she’s going to show us a waterfall and teach us about some of the plants and animals she’s found. I’m going to add them all to the book. Maybe I’ll even be able to come up with some new recipes too!" - Challa *** Caught stuttering in the chains, Challa must make her choice. To stay with the caravan or to find her own path. To go alone or let Strael come with her. At the edge of Cenja, she must decide where to go next. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: death (from opening), moderate violence "I know you won’t want to talk to me after I tell you, or even listen. So, I’m writing - in case I don’t make it, in case that one day after you want to read it. Maybe when the day comes that I’m gone and Korrin is grown, you might let him read it too. It’s dangerous out here, doing this. I do it because it’s what I know. It’s what I’m good at. Out here the winds seem to grow colder and colder; knowing that you’re safe, the both of you, warms me against them. Stay warm by your fires. Stay safe." - Bris *** Sistre's chains lead Bris to the Jackal, Rowl Estvelryn. The anger and hatred that she has carried with her over these past years has boiled over. She has chosen revenge. She wants justice - for what was done to the Sharrow, for what was done to her family. Bris prepares to fight. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). "I think that was when I began to question my place in the Splintered Breath. Funny really, that when you joined was when I first thought about leaving. It wasn’t that I disagreed with what we were trying to do - Calloa did not deserve its imprisonment. However, seeing Ferrox Urstraet’s unwillingness to consider that the citizens of Frailty would be punished as much as its rulers, terrified me. I saw then that she would put her ideals above the safety of others." - Venz *** The group are pulled different directions by Sistre's chains. Venz wishes for a moment of peace, of quiet and solitude. He uses it to read the book that he claimed from the library - a grimoire filled with Serrata Paige's memories. He's determined to discover what happened under Carn Veskl, to find out who is responsible for Corpus. *** Notables Corpus, the god under the mountain. A counterfeit remnant. The Splintered Breath, a group of renegade snarls trying to find their formed leader, Ferrox Urstraet. Serrata Paige, a scientist and sole survivor of the experiments on Corpus. The Entwined Form, a fringe organisation that want to heal the cleaved remnants - uniting spirit and matter. Provenance, an old empire ruled by a remnant and its envoys. A group aiming to restore it. Ven, the slayer of the remnant of Provenance. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). "Other rogues began to create counterfeits. A great shadow industry of fakes and forgeries blossomed. While most peddled shoddy imitations and bluffed at their provenance, experts made sure to replicate every detail. To their books, they would attach chains and etch tell-tale insignia down the spines. They would use glues to emulate the strange fusion that was the inevitable fate of all of Eulogy’s tomes." - Avyn Fiir Vorunt *** The Conclave are dealt with, the Splintered Breath have departed. The group are left alone at the bottom of the Helctic Library. They have a moment to reflect and make choices about their next steps. But whatever they decide, Sistre's chains are waiting. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: blood, violence, death With a single word, Compli Xender Bross ends the Splinter's spells. The web of spirit that is everywhere, that connects everything, is gone from the room. The snarls are left vulnerable. Venz tries a new kind of weaving, Bris offers a hand, Challa faces the worst choice and Belka makes sure that Eulogy will remember them. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: blood, violence, child endangerment, off-screen death “I remember them telling me, we might run into the Conclave. If you see someone dressed in gold, stay away. If they talk to you, keep your head low and do what they say. Don’t try to reason with them, don’t answer back.” - Ayof *** There is no more time. The agents of the Conclave - Compli Xender Bross and Rugate Terella Awl - launch their attack. One of the snarls has already fallen, blood has been spilled. The Splintered Breath make their stand. Bris squares up for a fight, Challa gets in a tangle, Belka makes the catch, and Venz gets in the groove. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: Death, violence, memory loss "It is hard, to rewrite what has been written. To change the thing completely is a long and weary task; harder still alone. A myriad of paths which must be followed to their ends, a detangling of possible and probable and maybe. The more you try to alter in that moment, the further out the tears will spread. Still. With time, with patience. With purpose. Yes. I suppose it can be done" - Belka *** As everyone converges on the Helctic Library, chaos rules. The opportunistic forces of the Satraphy, Splinters and the Conclave all make their moves. The monks, and our party, are caught in the middle. Challa looks for a librarian, Bris turns down a free meal, Venz enters the vault and Belka rewrites the story. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: death, mild horror You're crouched outside the lair of the Mustang, near the burned tree. Your friends are with you, exchanging nervous looks. Like you, they’re having second thoughts. Like you, they smell death in the air and wonder if it’s their deaths. Keen has a big piece of sheet metal with a rope across the back, because the Mustang breathes fire. Niamh has a rifle, because the Mustang is far too swift to catch. Yelena has the teachings, because maybe the Mustang can still be reasoned with. You have a knife because, in the end, someone has to cut the Mustang’s throat. It’s the witching hour, the moon is full, and fresh blood is on the ground. The Mustang will surely run tonight. *** This is our Halloween Special, focusing on a younger Venz as he, and a group of snarls and weavers, wait warily beneath a full moon. They have come together to find and kill the Mustang, a snarl who has unravelled and sowed destruction over this land. For now though, they wait. Steeling themselves for their confrontation. This is the second Shards and Fragments - one-shots set in Ryne, showcasing a different part of the world to Tiding. They're designed to be stand-alone, you can listen to them out of order. They're good entry places if you've not listened before. In this episode, we play a slightly modified version of The Mustang by John Harper. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). Hi, I'm Thryn. I play Belka on These Flimsy Rituals, a narrative-first actual play podcast focused on telling small stories in big worlds. We launched in 2018 and are just nearing the end of our first campaign, Tiding. It explores a decaying, autumnal world shaped by huge, shambling god husks. We follow two caravans, banded together by disaster, trying to forge a new life beneath the shadows of the titans. We're playing a custom powered by the apocalypse game built around spirit, body and emotion. The episode that you're about to listen to is Tiding 18, Forces at Play. Storyteller Belka, Scout Bris, Spellweaver Venz and tenacious child Challa, have been travelling to the town of Eulogy in the hope of finding help. After resting for the night at the perplexing, haunting home of Tiller Bract - a rancher whose memories have been taken from them - we begin with a knock at the door. http://flimsyrituals.com
C/W: Memory loss, snakes "But there’s only so long you can go on doing heists and scores and schemes. It was like we were just snapping branches off of a tree, but what we needed to do was to chop that tree down. But what we needed was stop that tree from growing in the first place." - Ferrox Urstraet *** Carried by the chains, Belka and Venz are carried away from the threat of the Conclave's agents. Separated in the library, both get their chance to face their past. Meanwhile, arriving at the library, Challa stumbles into the bothersome Captain Aloma Labrencis and must try to find a way past. The caravan, led by Bris, come to Eulogy and find it worse for wear. Bris scouts, Challa shows off her meek side, Belka gets patched up and Venz bumps into old friends. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). Featuring Ryan Evans (@brainxray) and Thryn Henderson (@thairyn). Produced by Thryn Henderson and Adam Dixon. Cover art by Allissa Chan (@formyths). Rules are available at adtidi.itch.io/ryne. Sound clips from sagetyrtle and fthgurdy at freesound.org
CW: Violence, memory loss "My own mission progresses. I am closer to Venz than ever before. You may question the wisdom of focusing on him and not the Splinters, but I suspect a connection their. That their paths lead to the same place. If strength and conviction were the weapons of your other soldiers, patience is mine." - Rugate Ullun Bakkal *** Everyone begins to converge on the Helctic Library, where beneath the ground, Venz and Belka face off against dangerous foes. Something is happening at the bottom of the library's great staircase, and whatever it is has pushed several factions into action. Meanwhile, at the caravan, Bris finds themselves embroiled in politics. For the first time in her life, she seems to be enjoying it. Challa takes in a festival, Belka steals a book, Venz gets chained up and Bris finds family. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). Featuring Ryan Evans (@brainxray) and Thryn Henderson (@thairyn). CW: Violence, memory loss “If you’re reading this, if you’re the one they’ve sent, this is my record. If this monk does their job right, after this I won't remember any of what happened. I don’t know who I’ll be, but I will be no threat to you. I beg you to take this book, and destroy it if that’s what you want, but let me live out whatever life I have left.” - Serrata Paige *** A great rumble spreads from beneath the Heltic Monastery, causing its great dome to crack. The negotiations between The Obeyant Auscult Calsun, and Belka and Venz are put on hold. They rush to find the cause. The library of the Revenant Chorus is under attack. Belka searches for Tiller Bract and Venz shows off a new trick. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). Featuring Ryan Evans (@brainxray) and Thryn Henderson (@thairyn). “I stand before our village’s council to relinquish my claim to become elder of the Derral family. I understand that my claim will be passed to my sister Aya, or otherwise the next person to come of age. I reaffirm my commitment to my family and will continue to serve them in other ways.” - Bris *** In the aftermath of the Jackal Dorish's attack, the caravan tries to make sense of what happened. The wounded must be tended, sides taken and questions about Challa's part in this answered. Bris and Challa find themselves making decisions about the future of themselves and the caravan. Challa loses a friend and Bris talks to a tent. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). Ben and Drew continue to interview Allan as he teaches listeners a new language, and gives the wrap up of his time in rehab. You know it’s rough when you’re sneaking the Left Behind books into your room…
C/W: Violence “Our practice is about untangling memory. Done well, the petitioner should have no sense of the memory they wanted rid of. This means that our work will often be tedious, we must cultivate patience. Learn to see that network of roots attached to each memory, and work slowly to pry each one free leaving stone intact.” - Notes on Our Practice by the Judgemental Observer Axenius *** Eulogy sits at the heart of Cenja, a small town governed by the monks of the Revenant Chorus. At its centre is the Helctic Library, a monastery where they practice their trade - the taking of memories, to assuage the pain of the grieving. Escorted by Captain Aloma Labrencis, Belka reaches Eulogy with Venz not far behind. Meanwhile, the rest of the camping trip head back to the caravan, where trouble awaits. Bris gets told off, Belka refuses to budge, Challa shows uncanny potential and Venz gets sassy. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). Allan is once again joined by Ben and Drew to give the next installment of his addiction story. This time we go deep inside the inner walls of the institution in which Allan resided for his rehab. You get to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly…and the ridiculous. And I love ya.
"But to do this is to ignore all of the different forces in play. It ignores the Splintered Breath, that group of renegade snarls, already planning their audacious robbery of the monk’s library - willing to risk everything to find a trace of their absent prophet. It ignores those opposing them. Snarl-hunters from the Conclave of Sima, who would let the library go up in flames, if it meant catching their quarry. It ignores too the ambitions of the monk’s supposed allies, the Satraphy of Pheretrere, who, fearing the Conclave’s interference, moved to reaffirm the loyalty of the Revenant Chorus - by whatever means that would take.” - The Counterfeit God: A History of Corpus by Avyn Fiir Vorunt *** After a night’s rest on Tiller Bract’s farm, trouble catches up to the camping trip. They find themselves caught between their melancholy host and people who would do them harm. Bris babysits, Challa sings songs, Venz makes threats and Belka stands firm. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: terminal illness, death, bugs “I never thought I’d be able to think of this place as a home, but it wasn’t half bad for a while. But life being the way it is, the things we were running from caught up with us. And now, as I find myself desperately wanting to forget, to leave this place, I find myself weighed down - as if by stone.” - The memories of Tiller Bract recorded by The Distractible Sepult Charus *** The camping group find shelter in the house of Tiller Bract, a rancher living near Eulogy. For the first time in a long while they are well-fed and rested. However, like leaves in the gutter, gloom and memory weigh down this house. Sensing something strange, the group attempt to investigate the farm and their forgetful host. Bris investigates, Venz takes it all in, Challa discovers strange animals and Belka learns about omelettes. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). “But, Corpus did not lie idle. It had begun to proliferate outwards from Carn Veskl; folded the power claimed from Slumber and Strael into its whole. And by spore and ice wind and tunnel, spread. In the Sharrow it found easy pickings, the land defenceless following its remnant’s murder. Now in control of Strael’s frozen wake, it stretched itself over the territory. Then, it turned East. Began to track those who had eluded it in the caves, the ones that had turned its powers against it. It put its newfound strength to the test against Cenja. And, while Duier did its best to hold back Corpus’ fury, its victory seemed an inevitability.” - Avyn Fiir Vorunt *** Ahead of the caravan, the camping trip starts proper. Venz and Challa attempt to get answers from Strael; first though they’ll have to avoid Belka and Bris’ suspicions, as well as the attention of dangerous strangers. Venz finds time for his hobbies, Belka cooks potatoes, Challa rides a moth and Bris goes chasing waterfalls. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: upsetting scenes “I knew then that if I was to do this right, I would need to get close. I would have to map the full extent of Venz’s influence - find out whether it spread elsewhere, to see whether the two children might be redeemed under the Conclave’s tutelage. And only then, I would strike. I would destroy the stem of weed, but destroy it right down to the roots. Yours in faithful service, Rugate Ullun Bakkal” *** Challa and Bris gather people, ready to go camping. First though there are permissions to be asked and conversations to be had, Secrets unfurl, spreading their shadow over the whole trip. Belka investigates Strael, Challa gets a ghostly surprise, Venz hides behind a secret and Bris loses her temper. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). In this episode, Keeshon Washington tells his story of being drawn into the Kingdom of God. As he was raised in a non-Christian family, there were a few Christians who showed that they cared about him by being willing to spend time with him, and to invite him into their homes. C/W: Mention of family death "When a remnant demands beauty, give your eyes so it can see its land. When a remnant demands expression, give your tongue so it can speak. When a remnant demands knowledge, give your thoughts so it can understand. When a remnant demands service, give your body so it can act. When a remnant demands certainty, give your spirit so it can judge. When a remnant demands death, give your life so it can be put to a higher purpose." - a prayer recorded on a Voek grave, Cenja *** Amongst the stone and root of Cenja, Belka meets envoys of the remnant Duier. They barter for the caravan's right to cross its land. Meanwhile, at the caravan, Strael repeats their demands. Belka shares a name, Challa asks for help, Venz meets Strael and Bris agrees to a camping trip. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: discussion of grief “Vassan, Lef. My hope is that you’ll never have to go through this. That we’ll find a home you’ll never have to leave unless you choose to.” - Jeddah Assum *** The caravan continues its journey through the grave-strewn landscape of Cenja. They head towards Eulogy, following the trail of a scientist who was seen fleeing Carn Veskl. There an order of monks, devoted to capturing memory and assuaging grief, make their home. But, there is much road still to cover between here and there. Venz shares his burdens, Bris hears harsh truths, Challa demands Strael's attention and Belka investigates a grave. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). “Your book is an incredible thing. I recognise so much of my home in it, even a few things I didn’t know. I’d been planning to keep it, but as you’re still around, I thought you might like it back. I hope you continue to work on it. I fear that the place we both know is lost with the Sharrow’s death. The book is a fitting tribute.” -Venz *** Having decided to head East the survivors of Carn Veskl gather their belongings. Soon they’ll climb the steep path out of the valley into Cenja, a territory devoted to mourning. A forested landscape dotted with graves, tombs and graves from a thousand cultures; where fruit grows bland and grief lingers like a thick fog. As the caravan prepares to leave there are a few moments - to heal wounds, to make plans, to catch-up with old friends. Venz returns a book, Belka reunites with Vilte, Bris shares unwelcome wisdom and Challa sees a bird. *** As mentioned in the episode we recently created a Discord - a place where you can chat about the podcast. You can join at https://discord.gg/bTQdKmU. We’ve also released the draft rules for Ryne, the game we play on the podcast. You can get the playtest version at adtidi.itch.io/ryne. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: NPC death “But my eyes were drawn to another figure, who sat in their midst. An anathema, the monster I'd come to know as Venz. From the moment I set eye on him I knew I had to act. That if I didn't, all of these people would be doomed.” -Ullun Bakkal *** Having escaped the strange remnant Corpus, the people of Ninut gather at the confluence of three territories. They rest, shocked by the dark events under the mountain, waiting to see if all of their loved ones make it out of Carn Veskl. A small group, gathered by Jeddah and the now-awakened Vilte, are asked to make a decision about where to go next. Do they go north into Irravence’s untamed forests, or east into the grief-touched Cenja? Venz shares news of the Sharrow’s fate, Belka puts their foot down, Bris gets emotional and Challa climbs a tree. *** This is the start of Tiding's second arc. We're excited to pick up the adventures of Belka, Bris, Challa and Venz again. We also wanted to share some news! We've just released the rules we've been playing with, you can download and view them at adtidi.itch.io/ryne. They're WIP, but we'll be continuing to update them on that itch page. If you want to chat about the rules or podcast, we also have a new Discord server - https://discord.gg/bTQdKmU. Come and discuss the episodes, share your non-canon remnants and argue about which character is the best. *** Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: Trypophobia, discussion of death “Eolith whispers slow. Setting sun, rays lie thick. Cool, harden, coat the tongue. Long, dry exhale, salt-heavy funeral sigh. Atrophy creeping. Old crystalline veins, crumble dust-like, flake and fall. Decay extends, searches. Hide the heart. Calm the pulse, slower, slower. Extend the reach. Split the chrysalis. Wake the hive. Grasp the roots outside the edges - unheeded time, more use here. Others waste, redirect. Bind the wound. Brace.” This is the first of a three-part special focusing on the Jackal’s attempts to bring down Relict. We play the game The Harder They Fall, a game of final battles for the fate of the world, by Jay Iles and UFO Press. In this episode we build the landscape of Eolith, a preserved landscape of amber mountains, tar pits and salt flats. We share the characters we’ll be playing - the remnant Relict, its envoys led by Mell, and the Tenders Flint and Oaken. It’s set in the same world as Tiding, but is a stand-alone story. If you’re new to These Flimsy Rituals, this might be a good entry point. Featuring special guests Beck Michalak (@R_Michalak) and Nate Crowley (@FrogCroakley), alongside Thryn Henderson (@thairyn). Bris makes some choices. This is the final episode of Tiding's first arc. C/W: Death, trauma "Realise this. Realise that despite your training, killing a remnant will not be easy. They are living gods. C/W: death, dead body "Every settlement here has its own ways of celebrating our remnants arrival, because we know that with it comes Spring. That in its tred wildflowers grow like footprints, birds settle to nest and the land begins to warm, ready for the sewing of the year's first crops.Spring spreads through the land in a great circle. The Sharrow's passing is a signal for life to wake. I have spent half a life trying to trace the Sharrow, to give detail to its movements. This is what I know." - Cast Under Carn Veskl, the scouting party try to convince Calyn and Madi to move on - before the shadows that haunt the mountain's tunnels claims them. C/W: Horror "High above, split from the knowing, the body walked in circles around the world thread, and from its being and its witnessing the world was born. Everywhere it passed, the thought of things solidified, and wound another thread around the world’s string." - Belka The world reveals dark omens. The scouting party finds something worrying growing under Carn Veskl - the mountain the caravan approaches. On the surface, a storm's name is revealed, and its intent. Belka swaps stories, Challa fights a storm, Venz eases doubts and Bris draws her sword. Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). C/W: Horror “Even the world itself can catch a sickness, once the wound has festered, hidden, for too long. I wonder now how I didn’t feel the fever burning in its caverns. How I could not see the threads of fate there, cut and twisted out of shape.” - Belka The scouting party reaches Carn Veskl's caves and, inside them, find an unexpected presence. C/W: minor horror, implied offscreen death "This is not the first time we've been forced to leave our homes behind. Nearly fifty years ago - before most of us were born - we lived in a different place, way to the west. There, on an island blanketed in colourless fog, our parents and grandparents lived in a town called Brisal. They didn't need to wear veils, their eyes perfectly suited to the shifting shades of mist." - an excerpt from the letters of Jeddah Assum As the storm gathers behind it, the caravan heads towards Carn Veskl. There the scouting party hunt for the caves that will give the travellers protection from the winds. The caves that are rumoured to lead out of the Sharrow. Bris builds bridges, Venz soars like an eagle, Belka listens to a dead fox and Challa starts a blaze. Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). “Beginnings are always hard. There’s never a perfect place to start a story. The moment we pick is a choice that says as much about us as it does the history we tell.” - Avyn Fiir Vorunt The people of Ninut abandon the village of Etrys. They load their carts hoping to outrun the oncoming storm. Bris struggles with responsibilities, Challa soothes the weaver, Belka packs for an adventure, Venz decides to stick around - for now. A group is formed to scout the looming mountain, Carn Veskl. Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). Featuring Ryan Evans (@brainxray), Steve Martin (@purple_steve), Thryn Henderson (@thairyn) and Ziz Simoens (@seasylphgames). Produced by Thryn Henderson (@thairyn). "I kept a record of every day, overwrote each one the next. Not the normal practice, but the days all seemed like one: a heavy pause, a stutter. I replaced all of our yesterday's like I could erase this endless hesitation, as though the village wasn't there at all." - Belka The first play episode of Tiding - a story of a community doing their best to survive in indifferent landscapes. Two weeks ago the people of Ninut fled their homes to avoid a deadly storm, following the mysterious Parish to Etrys. There they wait, hoping for more stragglers to follow them. Challa uncovers a strange secret in the basements below Etrys, Bris meets a familiar stranger, Venz searches for flinthooks and Belka discovers stew. After a dire warning is shared, the people of Ninut face a difficult decision. Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). A storm sweeps over the Sharrow, different to any that has come before - haunted, deadly, alive. A caravan flees its wake, formed of the people of Ninut and the mysterious Parish. Leading them a reluctant guardian, outcast storyteller, rebellious kid and an unravelling spiritweaver. This is the world building episode for our first season, Tiding - set in a world of broken gods, wild landscapes and living spirits. In it we introduce our setting, rules and characters. We’re running a custom Apocalypse World hack, also drawing inspiration from Monsterhearts, Sagas of the Icelanders and The Veil. Hosted by Adam Dixon (@adtidixon). Featuring Ryan Evans (@brainxray), Steve Martin (@purple_steve), Thryn Henderson (@thairyn) and Ziz Simoens (@seasylphgames). Produced by Thryn Henderson (@thairyn).
