A couple of months ago, I made up my mind to begin learning the guitar. For over 45 years, I've owned a guitar. Not the same one the entire time, but I've always had a guitar (in a case) sitting within 10 feet of me in my home office. But...I've never learned how to play. As I approached my 68th rotation around the sun, I figured, "It's now or never!" I choose NOW. Since then I've had numerous conversations, some of them with you guys, who are approaching retirement and dreaming (or planning) to resurrect old hobbies, or embrace new ones. Like I am with the guitar. Hot Springs Village is a great place to do both. The pace of life, the natural beauty, and most of all, the low cost of living provide many of us with the opportunity to pursue things we love. Time and money, thanks to Hot Springs Village, can be on our side to learn new things, fall back in love with old things, and spend our days doing what we most love. • Join Our Free Email Newsletter • Subscribe To Our YouTube Channel (click that bell icon, too) • Join Our Facebook Group • Support Our Sponsors (Click on the images below to visit their websites.) __________________________________________ __________________________________________

Kenya has surpassed Nigeria to become Africa's biggest second-hand clothes importer. The industry employs millions of people but critics say it has crippled the local textile industry. It's not just about clothes, it's about livelihoods, local industry, and the long-term cost of dependency on used apparel.
We love our families, but let's be real - some of us are fighting battles that didn't start with us. In this episode, the sisters get vulnerable about the weight of childhood wounds, the pressure of hustle culture, and the emotional toll of being the ‘strong Black woman.' But sis, we're not meant to just survive - we're meant to thrive. It's time to heal, rewrite your family's story, and build a future free from cycles that no longer serve you.

Welcome to Financially Ever After Widowhood. As we're in the heart of the holiday season, we know this time of year can bring both cherished memories and difficult emotions, especially for widows navigating loss. Today, we're bringing back one of our most impactful episodes from last year, featuring Cognitive Behavioral and Grief Coach Jordan Schwartz Hendin. We hope this special replay offers comfort, guidance, and a reminder that you're not alone. Thank you for tuning in, and we wish you peace and support this holiday season. Let's revisit this incredible episode. Jordan draws from her personal experiences with grief, having lost her own mother at a young age and supporting her widowed grandmother through multiple losses. Now a professional coach, she works with women struggling with grief and major life transitions. In this week's show, Jordan and Stacy explore handling loss and loneliness, honoring traditions, and staying financially sound. The holidays can bring up complex emotions such as sadness, anger, and loneliness. This is normal after a major loss. Avoid unhealthy coping strategies like becoming an "isolator" or "doer." Don't overcommit to events or hide away alone. Reflect on your core values. Focus on traditions that align with what matters most, like family time. Make new memories and experiences, especially with children. Gift experiences rather than material items. Have open conversations with family about your grief. Don't pretend to be okay if you're not. Manage your finances by focusing on your values, not material possessions. Stick to a budget for holiday gifts and activities. You don't have to navigate the holidays alone. Seek support from family or a grief counselor during this difficult time. Hi everyone! Welcome back to another episode of The Chai on Life Podcast. I'm Alex Segal, and today, we are talking all about friendship.I've wanted to do a podcast on friendship for awhile now and this conversation was sooo cathartic and therapeutic. A lot of what we discussed are topics that I think are on a lot of our minds yet hard to speak about openly.Laura Marder was the perfect person to have this conversation with. She is a trained clinical social worker and the Director of the Circles Facilitators at CORE, an organization aimed at fostering meaningful relationships between Jewish women through authentic conversation and connection. As a note, reference Shasta Nelson's Ted Talk on friendship, coined as "Frientimacy," in the episode, so if you're looking to watch that entire video, you can click on the link in the show notes.Whether you're trying to make new friends, working to nurture or deepen existing friendships, wanting more time for friendship in your life, or anything else in that realm, this episode is for you and I am so excited for you to hear it.If you want to get in touch with Laura, you can email her at LMarder@coretorah.org.

Lasting, revolutionary, disruptive change increasingly requires getting SUPER creative about financial strategy, business and legal structures, and values alignment in this day and age, where as a society we face massive challenges to individual's rights, opportunities, and freedoms. Social entrepreneurs with big visions like our guest in this episode, So Good Pupusas and Pupusas for Education Founder Cecilia Polanco, don't allow themselves to be put in a box. Instead of being restricted by the limitations of existing paths and models for social change, they create NEW ONES. They leverage what's available to create structures that allow for innovation and transformational change. In this episode, listen to Cecilia's story of how she has followed her life experiences and purpose to create self-sustaining educational scholarships and jobs for her community, leveraging BOTH for-profit business and non-profit organizational models. Learn more about Cecilia's work: So Good Pupusas - http://www.sogoodpupusas.com Pupusas 4 Education: https://www.pupusas4education.com Cecilia S. Polanco is a local Durham community organizer and proud graduate of Durham Public Schools who believes #TheRevolutionWillBeWellFed. She is a daughter of the Salvadoran diaspora and indigenous peoples of El Salvador, a long time Durham resident, and local small business owner of So Good Pupusas social justice food truck, and founder of Pupusas for Education non profit community organization. She works in the fields of mental health advocacy, food and environmental justice, economic community development, youth development and organizing, and more just philanthropic and nonprofit systems. She values racial equity and anti-racism, intersectionality, the path from DEI to liberatory systems, building bridges of solidarity, freedom dreaming around decolonized strategies and systems, radical joy and celebration, and a visionary for a healing path forward together. As a facilitator she believes in co-creating brave spaces to grapple with both having experiences and being agents of harm, channeling our inner child in our work, and slowing down to prioritize connection, relationship, and heart centered work.
For the visionaries with big dreams to change the world: Here's one of the top questions social entrepreneurs in the making have been asking me! Here's the thing. It doesn't have to be either/or. You can have a business with a positive social mission that changes lives. You can have a non-profit that is financially strong and profitable. You can have BOTH a LLC & non-profit that compliment each other to support your vision. Lasting, revolutionary, disruptive change increasingly requires getting SUPER creative about financial, business, and legal structure strategy. Especially in this day and age when we face massive challenges to individual's rights, opportunities, and freedoms. That's why social entrepreneurs with BIG visions DON'T allow themselves to be put in a box. Instead of being restricted by the limitations of existing paths and models for change, social entrepreneurs create NEW ONES. Life is a tapestry of dreams and aspirations, yet sometimes, despite our best efforts, we fail to see our dreams come to life. In these moments, we might feel engulfed by a sense of loss and disappointment. But we can find solace in a promise from God; when one dream fades, a new one is waiting on the horizon, ready to infuse our lives with renewed hope and purpose. Bryce Kenny is a professional Monster Jam driver who is known as the Great Clips Mohawk Warrior. Bryce always dreamt of being a professional racer, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who was a professional drag racer. Before reaching his dreams, and eventually setting a World Record in 2021 for the fastest speed in a monster truck, Bryce encountered many roadblocks, and felt he was seeing his dream die before it could even begin—but he would eventually realize that God was working to bring a new dream alive, all in His perfect timing. I don't know where I'm going to land here, but I do know, God placed a calling on my life and the circumstances of my life do not change the calling of my life.'” - Bryce Kenny “I want people to begin to understand that your purpose, that God-given dream that you've had, every God-given dream goes through three stages: a birth, a death and a resurrection.” - Bryce Kenny “God wants to watch us in the skill sets that He gave us. He gave us passions for a reason and it's not just to use us, it's to be in relationship with Him.” - Bryce Kenny “There's no better joy in the world for me than to know that the Heavenly Father is using me somehow to put those smiles on people's faces. I'll never get used to that. And I've never had more fun watching God move His hand over an environment that I couldn't have impacted if it was just myself trying to make it happen.” - Bryce Kenny “No matter how bad it is, I know that God is going to take my situation, even the dire situations, and bring something amazing out of it, whether I get to see it now or twenty years from now. And when you operate with that level of faith, you cannot help but act on that belief, and that is what faith truly is.” - Bryce Kenny “God is the one that is in control and He still has the creative power that He brought all of this into existence with the spoken word—He still has that same creative power to create the life that you have always believed that God has called you to.” - Bryce Kenny “God really had His hand on my life.” - Charlene Tilton “If you are in depression or anxious or in grief or feeling sorry for yourself, what do you do? You go help somebody else. Because that's the best thing.” - Charlene Tilton “It's just a blessing to be able to start every day in the Word of God and in prayer.” - Charlene Tilton ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel!
