Health/lifestyle consultant, carnivore since 2015 and drummer Phil Escott got chronically ill as a vegetarian, and his body revolted with psoriatic arthritis and other autoimmune conditions in 2010, leaving him unable to move without severe pain, let alone drum or exercise, and he had to throw out all his existing “expertise” and start from scratch. After Vinay's brother had a heart attack, he was propelled into taking action on getting back control of his health, especially as his doctor was pushing him to take statins for his cholesterol. Arti, on the other hand, always thought she was healthy given her vegan diet. Whilst she joined initially to support Vinay, she quickly realised how much she had to gain from a proper nutrition strategy and a lifestyle change. Nuts, seeds, beans, and lentils are great protein sources for vegans, and yogurt and eggs are great sources for vegetarians. Plant proteins generally have less protein overall than animal proteins, so it's important to prioritize them. Be prepared with protein sources when you go out to eat or are going to an event where food will be served. Pack a greek yogurt cup in a small cooler, or bring a shelf stable protein source like pumpkin seeds or trail mix.     Hi! There are so many terms floating around in the world of food nowadays - paleo, vegan, vegetarian, plant-based - what the heck do they all mean? In this episode, we try to provide some clarity on several terms inside the food and diet community. As a teacher, I often get education companies emailing me about their products and one that caught my eye was a vocabulary company. They asked what appeared like a simple multiple choice question, but had replaced some of the words in the question and answer section with new made-up words. It did a great job of highlighting the importance of fundamental vocabulary knowledge before comprehension. When trying to improve our health, we can get trapped in the confusing world of diet and exercise vocabulary. Without an understanding of what the words mean and what the options are, how can one make an informed decision? We are not here as nutritionists or trying to push one method of eating over another. Today, we come to you as informed consumers trying to help make more informed consumers. The goal of this show, and most lessons in life, is not to provide absolute answers, but to give clear information and allow you to decide how to best use that for yourself.
