Kerri, won the prestigious title Ms. Veteran America 2015, advocating for her Sisters-in-Arms that had fallen on hard times. After her own journey of self-discovery and embracing her entrepreneurial spirit, Kerri launched Freedom Sisters Media to create content, connection, and community for women who defend freedom. Kerri and her team of writeHERs share women-directed stories and embodied experiences in and out of the uniform with the community through audio, digital media, film, publications social media, events and in real life. For more information on Freedom Sisters Media - https://freedomsisters.com/
Theresa grew up in a military environment. She knew from a very young age that her future was in the Navy. But what she didn't foresee was that she would be a finalist in Ms. Veteran America! Theresa and I chat about her experiences in the Navy, including her dream of being stationed at the former NAS Miramar. We talk about what is was like serving in 1980, and how she believed (what was then) the recent women's rights movement made changes to the treatment of women but in the military, it had little impact. We discuss how that affected Theresa's military experience. She tells me about her transition out and how she made it go smoothly. Theresa had a long successful career working with real estate mortgages. Now, she is helping interested veterans with transitioning into this career in order to improve their quality of life. In addition to volunteering her services with not for profit veterans groups she tells me all about her experiences with M.s Veteran America and I get all the details on the behind the scenes! Back in September, I spoke with veteran and entrepreneur Charlynda Scales. Charlynda is CEO of Mutt's Sauce. I am so inspired by her resiliency. During this episode, we talk about her struggles after a divorce and while embarking on the journey of entrepreneurship. She has such a never-give-up attitude that is infectious. When I finished our conversation, I immediately went to work trying to find a program that would help take Leaders Lead to the next level. The next level for us was asking for help. She inspired me! Charlynda Scales is a TEDx speaker, brand ambassador, Air Force Veteran, social media influencer, and the founder and CEO of Mutt's Sauce, LLC, a company that makes “the sauce for every meal.” Mutt's Sauce was the Grand Prize Winner of Bob Evan's Farms' 2017 Heroes to CEOs Contest. She is a Clemson University graduate, with a degree in Aerospace Science and Business Management. She also holds an MBA in Strategic Leadership. She started the company Mutt's Sauce, LLC while she was still serving on active duty in the military. Charlynda has been featured in Forbes.com, MadameNoire.com, CBS News, Black Enterprise Magazine, Military.com, Army.mil, and Air Force Association Magazine. In 2016, she was crowned 2nd runner-up, Ms. Veteran America. Charlynda was also selected for the March 2018 cover of Military Spouse magazine. #VETERAN #TEDX #VETERAN #LEADERSHIP #FORBES

Final Salute Inc., and Veteran Heather Dugas (Ms. Veteran America Semifinalist) are stepping up and fighting for our homeless woman Veterans. Did you know that the federal government estimates that there are approximately 55,000 homeless woman Veterans in the U.S. and that approximately 70% of them are mothers? This is very problematic considering that more than 60% of surveyed Grant Per Diem (DPD) programs that serve homeless woman Veterans do not house children.Upon examining the housing the VA inspector found bedrooms and bathrooms without locks, poorly lit hallways and women house in facilities approved for men only. Taking all of the aforementioned information and much more into consideration, Heather Dugas has partnered with Final Salute Inc. to help bring awareness and raise money to support these women and children. Final Salute Inc., is a non-profit who's mission is to provide homeless Veterans and their children with safe suitable housing.

SERVED LIKE A GIRL, Lysa Heslov's debut feature-documentary, which profiles a group of brave women, all military veterans, who compete for the title of Ms. Veteran America. The competition's proceeds all go to benefit homeless women veterans, whose numbers, currently at 55,000, are growing in this country. The film follows seven women, in particular – Andrea, Denyse, Hope, Jas, Marissa, Nichole and Rachel - each of whom has her own story to tell as they transition from soldier to civilian.
