As another Wrestlemania approaches Cole, Justin and Josh relive the glorious history of pro wrestling video games. From moonsaults on the NES to Rock Bottoms on the N64 to RKO’s on today’s consoles, our favorite slobberknockers will live on. The Cursed Checkpoint is a topical video game podcast focused on discussions and interviews about a single video game, genre, news headline, or industry story. It features a rotating cast of up to 3 members of the Horrible Night writing staff and/or video game industry professionals. Episode Background While some of us swore off of pro wrestling (and some haven’t), we can’t fight the yearly itch of witnessing Wrestlemania (which is right around the corner on April 1, 2012). All of the building wrestling talk eventually naturally turns to pro wrestling video games around Horrible Night. Cole put together this episode in order to give us and fans like us an outlet to relive our favorite wrestling games of each generation of video games. While the main wrestling games don’t have the draw for us like they used to, the recent WWE All-Stars gives us hope for the genre’s return to glory. This episode is for anyone who has ever been a pro wrestling fan, enjoyed retro pro wrestling games or still have hope that the current games can get better. Show Notes Cast: Cole, Justin, Josh Runtime: 37:32 Games: Pro Wrestling, WWF Wrestlefest, WCW vs The World, WCW vs NWO: World Tour, WWF War Zone, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, WWF Smackdown, WWE Smackdown vs Raw, WWE All Stars Subscribe to The Cursed Checkpoint – Multiple episodes a month. We have returned and are about to go a bit retro. Justin, Cole, Ethan, and Justin are in search of a list of fair competitive video games across all of the eras to create new game tournaments for our listeners and for upcoming Horrible Night Outs. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow We will not be dettered by failed recordings. The Horrible Show is back because before we talk about video games, we know you wanted to hear all about Cole’s reality TV adventures and wherever else the Threesomes of the Week takes us. Actually, we hope you survived the Threesomes enough to make it to our favorite multiplayer memories and our On the Spot question. Where we bring to light the age old question of why would you play Madden when you can play NFL Blitz? This is all of course just to set the mood as we have a real mission this week: to come up with some compelling classic competitive games for game tournanments for our listeners and potentially for upcoming Horrible Night Outs. It’s a veritable free-for-all as we look at games we grew up and onto some current favorites. Which Smash Bros is the best choice? Is Geometry Wars 2 better without shooting? Maybe puzzle games are better than we think they are. Is StarCraft II even an option for new players? I’m sure we don’t have the answers, but we did get a great list out of our discussion. Let us know what games we missed so we can continue build some compelling contests in the near future. Then, we can’t help but announce the next Horrible Night Out on July 8th as we return to Net Heads where we hope to game with our Indy listeners and their friends. On our way off the air, an epiphany strikes Cole and Justin G as they finally discover a use for handheld gaming devices.

We’ve been playing a few games the past month, culminating in a great time at Net Heads. Justin, Cole, Ethan, and Gifford recap the whats and whys of their recent game library to relive Portal, WWE All-Stars, Crysis 2, Monday Night Combat, and others. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Enough of this editorializing and headline coverage, we’re here to talk about our games. Not until we get off topic with our Threesomes of the Week where the relationship of the Justins may be changed forever. It’s no secret this week, that our crew had a blast at Net Heads and Cole wants to know how our lives would have been different if Net Heads had been around in our hometowns while we grew up in this week’s On the Spot question. Afterwards, Justins and Cole leave Ethan behind in our monthly gaming discussion covering 4 playthroughs of Mass Effect 2, confusion over Crysis 2‘s appeal, and an uncomfortable amount of baseball conversation. At least it’s about a baseball video game though. Will Ethan return in time for the game industry shout-outs? Stay tuned or skip forward to find out on the exciting conclusion to this week’s The Horrible Show brought to you by stun guns. News fight! Justin, Cole, Ethan, and Gifford find more than a few headlines worth discussing from last month, but do any of them matter? 3DS, Resident Evil, THQ, PAX East, cannibals, and others get the attention they rightfully deserve. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow So what exactly happened in the video game industry in March and was any of it important? We’ll tell you, that is once we get through our Threesomes of the Week and learn about Wrestlemania and cannibalism. Our On the Spot question uses a very dirty that make Justin’s skin crawl – Will there or has there been a successful “transmedia” partnership? All signs point to BioWare, but have these ideas already peaked? Our monthly headlines discussion strikes a few nerves when it comes to the Nintendo 3DS and Metacritic affecting THQ stocks, and Ethan is more than ready for a new Resident Evil game. Event details are now up for our Horrible Night Out at Net Heads on April 15th, you can RSVP on our Facebook event page. Justin brings it all back around to wrestling to wrap up the show and actually compliments Call of Duty: Black Ops for the first time in his recorded life. Welcome to March, let’s look back at February. Justin, Cole, Ethan, and Gifford scan the headlines and defend girl gamers in their own way, look forward to Gears 3, love on Telltale, read wonderful stories from the ESRB, and learn about hedonism. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow February has officially taken care of business, but did any of it matter? We take our monthly look back at the headlines to see what may stick, but not before our Threesomes of the Week attack. Cole starts the month off right with a wrestling reference right out of the gate, we may have to give him a monthly limit. Our On the Spot question asks the fair question of what the hell is actually going on in the We Dare trailer (link below). The headlines discussion starts off a bit heavy with the ugly side of online gaming and censorship, but Batman and Telltale come in to lighten the mood. We announce the first Horrible All Nighter Xbox Live gaming night for Thursday March 10th at 8pm EST starring Gears of War, too. More details on the site soon. After a few Sony venting sessions, the cast settles in for Gifford’s reading of Duke Nukem Forever’s ESRB details. Where for art thou, fellatio? Jason Fanelli hosts a dual-purpose VS Node Replay show this month, in which he, Eddie Inzauto, and Dan Crabtree not only discuss the games they've been playing at home, but also recount their experiences from E3 2010. Alpha Protocol, Sin & Punishment, Red Dead Redemption, Singularity, Transformers, Portal 2, XCOM, Dead Space 2, Homefront, WWE All Stars, Journey, Fable III, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Spec Ops, Epic Mickey, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and others find their way into the discussion this time around, and what a lively one it is.
