"Urgestein" ist eine überstrapazierte Zuschreibung, die schneller gezückt wird als das Lichtschwert, sobald Darth Maul den Raum betritt. Im Fall von Jan Wagner aber trifft diese Zuschreibung zu, denn er ist seit Mitte der 1990er Teil der Spielebranche. Sein Lebenslauf strotz voller bekannter Namen: Vivendi, JoWood, Ulisses, aber auch SpellForce, Jagged Alliance, Empire Earth - und Addy. Ausgerechnet Addy, die Lernsoftware, die Anfang der 2000er unzählige Kinder in Geiselhaft nahm und zum Bruchrechnen zwang, um sie anschließend mit einem zwölfsekündigen Rendervideo zu belohnen. Auch Gastgeber Dom Schott war eines dieser Kinder und holte Jan Wagner vor das Mikrofon, um eigentlich ausschließlich über Addy zu sprechen. Als er aber in der Vorbereitung feststellte, WIE umfangreich die Biographie seine Gastes ist, wurde aus dem Gespräch eine Zeitreise in eine andere Welt, als noch der Kurier die Spiele brachte und "Internet" ein Fremdwort war.

Yannick Süß verdient seinen Lebensunterhalt mit Musik, allerdings nicht irgendwelcher, sondern mit Soundtracks für Videospiele. Das Portfolio, das er sich seit über zehn Jahren in der Branche aufgebaut hat, ist beeindruckend: SpellForce, Die Gilde, Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings. Seine musikalische Leidenschaft gilt dabei vor allem Spielen mit historischen Schauplätzen. Kurz vor dem Treffen mit Dom Schott hat Yannick Süß noch ganz frisch ein Großprojekt abgeschlossen: Die Komposition des Soundtracks für den neusten "Crusader Kings 3"-DLC namens "Roads to Power", für den er byzantinisch-mittelalterliche Chorgesänge erst recherchieren und dann von einem Professor einsingen ließ. In dieser Folge erzählt Yannick von dieser spannenden Arbeit, seinem unverhofft-überraschenden Weg in die Spielebranche und wie gut man als Komponist von Aufträgen eigentlich leben kann.

Wie so oft haben wir vor der Aufnahme ziemlich herumgetrödelt, da konnten wir gleich noch das THQ Showcase am Freitag mitnehmen, das war nicht verkehrt: Gameplay zu Outcast - A New Beginning, Trine 5, Wreckreation mit Baumodus, das beinahe-aber-gerade-doch-nicht C&C Tempest Rising, das knuffig-schleimige Survival-Aufbauspiel Space for Sale, ein Render-Trailer-Lebenszeichen von Gothic 1 Remake, die Ankündigung von Titan Quest 2 von den Spellforce 3-Entwickler... war alles in allem eine ordentliche, kompakte Show. Wir haben es diesmal auch nicht übertrieben und konnten zusätzlich noch über den neuen Bluetooth-Receiver für Playstation 1 und 2 (jepp) von 8BitDo sprechen. Zoom ändert nach vehementem Backlash seine Nutzungsbedingungen und will nun doch nicht alle möglichen Inhalte wie Videos, Audio etc. von Nutzern für AI-Training nutzen. Google hingegen ist der Ansicht, AI-Systeme sollen wild alles im Netz abgrasen und verwerten dürfen, sofern niemand aktiv per Opt-Out widerspricht. Larian veröffentlichen eine ganze Menge Statistiken zum Release-Wochenende von Baldur's Gate 3 (368 Leute haben es direkt schon durchgespielt). Mike hat endlich in Jagged Alliance 3 gespielt und mag es bisher. Atlas Fallen hingegen ist enttäuschend. Legends of Ellaria bietet eine interessante Mischung aus Rollenspiel und Echtzeit-Strategie an dem man teilweise an Skyrim, Civilization und Spellforce denken muss. Angefangen mit einem typischen Charakter Editor und einem Prolog als Tutorial, in dem uns die ganze Mechanik im Spiel Schritt für Schritt beigebracht wird, ist es unsere Aufgabe als Lord um die Ressource namens Riftstone zu kämpfen. Während wir auf der Weltkarte ähnlich wie in Civilization Gebäude bauen, Truppen erstellen oder handeln können, können wir via Tastendruck innerhalb der Gebiete zwischen der First Person, Third Person oder RTS Modus umschalten. Was eine tolle Sache! Nur leider schadet dem Spiel die altbackene Grafik und die dazugehörigen, teilweise auftretenden Framedrops. Auch besteht jede Zone, ob Wechsel auf die Weltkarte oder das Betreten eines Hauses, Dungeons oder hexadiagonale Zone aus langen Ladezeiten, sodass man hier mehr damit beschäftigt ist als mit den eigentlichen Gebieten. Da sich das Spiel aktuell noch im Early Access befindet, hoffe ich, dass Larkon Studio sich den bestehenden Problemen noch annimmt und anschließend etwas an der Grafik schraubt, denn die Genre Mischung ist super interessant und birgt Potenzial!
