When we talk about sustainability in the outdoor industry, conversations often revolve around materials, emissions, or packaging—but what about where and how our gear is made?In episode 175 of the Outdoor Minimalist Podcast, we're learning about the importance of domestic manufacturing and why Made in the USA still matters—especially when it comes to building a more ethical, transparent, and sustainable apparel industry.I'm joined by the founder of Youer, a colorful and creative outdoor apparel brand that proudly manufactures 100% of its products in the U.S.—right out of their own factory in Missoula, Montana. We'll explore how Youer got started, what it really takes to keep production local, and why slow fashion and small-batch design are so powerful in pushing back against fast fashion culture—even in the outdoor world. Founded by Mallory Ottariano, Youer is the result of a decade-long journey that started with sewing colorful, one-of-a-kind clothes in her parents' basement and selling them on Etsy. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into a full-time business fueled by road trips, pop-up events, and a deep love of bold design and independent style. After years of challenges working with external factories, Mallory made a bold move to open her own manufacturing space—The Youniverse—in Missoula, Montana, thanks to support from her community. Today, Youer is a thriving brand known for its vibrant prints, ethical values, and commitment to making 100% of its products in the USA, all while reimagining what sustainable and people-centered fashion can look like.INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/outdoor.minimalist.book/WEBSITE:https://www.theoutdoorminimalist.com/YOUTUBE: @theoutdoorminimalistORDER THE BOOK: https://www.theoutdoorminimalist.com/bookLISTENER SURVEY: https://forms.gle/jd8UCN2LL3AQst976--------------------YouerWebsite: https://www.shopyouer.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/shopyouer/

Finding the Real Treasures in the Struggles with Youer Founder, Mallory Ottariano In this episode, Rachel sits down for a fascinating conversation with Mallory Ottariano about her unexpected journey into fashion entrepreneurship and the creation of her brand, Youer.. From dreaming of architecture to finding her true calling in design, Mallory's story is one of creativity, resilience, and innovation. She recounts her beginnings with a simple Etsy shop and the eventual evolution of her previous brand, Kind Apparel, ultimately leading to the creation of Youer. Her journey is filled with passion and the determination to ultimately make it work, no matter what it took. In the early days of the pandemic, Mallory faced overwhelming supply chain disruptions, like many, that threatened the very survival of her business. This episode details her struggle to maintain production, operate from a basement, and even code a crowdfunding page from scratch. Through incredible perseverance, she successfully rebranded her business and pivoted to in-house production, setting the stage for a triumphant product launch that would change the trajectory of her business as she knows it. We also explore the unique marketing strategies that have set Youer apart, including an annual treasure hunt event and various other marketing tactics. Mallory's approach to being the face of her brand, her engaging social media presence, and her carefully-crafted content make her a must-follow and stand-out in the community of apparel. More about Youer: In 2012 I was fresh out of architecture school and looking to keep a creative outlet alive so I bought a $100 serger (a sweet sewing machine) on eBay and started sewing clothes in my parents basement (like, the closet where the Christmas decorations are stored part of the basement) to sell on Etsy. My mom found a great free table on the side of the road and loaded it on to the roof of her '98 Subaru and that was my work station. My materials were thrift store clothes that I would spend hours shopping for and cutting up to sew into really wacky things that were colorful and weird and one of a kind. In this episode, you'll hear: -Mallory's incredible journey that led to her starting her brands. -The tough journey through the pandemic and the one product launch that turned everything around. -Some of the biggest obstacles in manufacturing in the US, particularly from a remote location in Montana. -The marketing advice Mallory did not take that ultimately worked out for the better. Dawn Walton, a human therapist, and Jess Probst, a dog behaviourist sit in Dawn's car and discuss how different industries all have different 'camps' where each group believes they are doing things the only way that is right. There is a residential for dog owners happening and there is a videographer attending to put together a documentary about what happens during the week. Jess was surprised to learn that, just like with dog training, there are different camps with different ways of doing things. Each one is critical of the other's approach. How about we just be curious instead? Open your mind and explore different possibilities. Remember, as Dr. Seuss said " Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You" They also discuss how a dog peeing everywhere is their equivalent of a Social Media post! And of course they meander through the normal range of random topics during the hour. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wereallscrewedup/message
Recently, I have been listening to the audiobook version of Surprised by Joy: The Shape of My Early Life by C.S. Lewis. I like to listen to audio books and podcasts as I do my gardening work. This book is a memoir or autobiography of C.S. Lewis' early life. If you want to get to know someone, explore their early life and come to understand what has shaped them. He writes this. I am a product of long corridors, empty sunlit rooms, upstairs indoor silences, attics explored in solitude, distant noises of gurgling cisterns and pipes, and the noise of wind under the tiles. Also, of endless books. C.S. Lewis. Two sentences. One long and one short takes us to those elements that, when multiplied together, have produced a C.S. Lewis. We could put it this way. Long corridors x empty sunlit rooms x upstairs indoor silences x attics explored in solitude x distant noises of gurgling cisterns and pipes x and the noise of wind under the tiles. x endless books = C.S. Lewis Of course, there are many other influences or factors that have gone into the shaping or the product. In the book, he talks about his parents, being an atheist, life in the trenches of World War One, relationships and many other things. But what is interesting to me is that he sums up himself as a product of the environs he found himself in. These are places where we can go to ourselves. We know what a long corridor looks like. Empty sunlit rooms have a certain feel to them. Attics, those places you go with a torch and have to brush away cobwebs, have a sense of adventure and hiddenness. For some, the thought of ‘endless books' might be overwhelming and even repulsive, but for someone like C.S. Lewis it would have been like sitting down to a banquet. From all these factors being multiplied, we have probably the deepest and most profound theological writing of the 20th century. We have the beauty of Narnia and the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The depth of Mere Christianity and wit of Screwtape Letters. You are the product of If you were to write a paragraph containing 36 words that described the factors that have shaped you, what would you write? The mind has a negative bias. It can so easily drift to the traumas, the hurts, and disappointments. C.S. Lewis had plenty of those. Instead, look to the environments that you inhabited. Where you immersed your time and felt most comfortable in. You may find hints in the environments that your parents embraced or took you to. I am a product of I was rummaging through some old photos the other day and I came across this photo taken of me in my early twenties. I am sitting on a hill, which was above my family home, on our farm just outside of Wellsford. It's a summer's day. I have my guitar, and I am looking out over the countryside and sheep are in the background. I can't remember what I was playing. Probably something from John Denver! – Country roads, take me home … But in this one image, I think I capture many of the environmental factors that shaped me. I am a product of the outdoors, warm summer breezes, musical notes, solitude and silence. Soil, sheep, pastoral care and animal husbandry. The small things inhabiting the large and conversations with earthy depth. Not as eloquent as C.S. Lewis, but you get the idea. Why is this important? We often come to times when we ask the deeper questions. Places of decision where we question our purpose. In these times, it's healthy to reflect on the environments that have shaped the deeper parts of you. Are there patterns and places where you most feel ‘at home' in? What are the environments that have gone into shaping the ‘product' you are? How do these reflections inform the choices you are about to make? Questions? Comments? Email me

Paul tells us two absolute truths in Romans 3.23-24; the first is that all of us have sinned and are guilty of causing the death of Christ. Second, God loves us so much He was willing to offer His Son as our sacrifice. Often we focus on one of the other. We are either so focused on sin that we beat ourselves up and are hyper judgmental of our neighbor. We can also be so swept up in our flesh that we begin to justify sin by claiming we are loved by God so we do not need to correct any bad behavior. Both are applicable. God loves us so He corrects us, He corrects us because He wants us to experience His peace and joy. My sin required the blood of Jesus be shed, but it was God's love that sent Him to suffer and die. Join us as we discuss this today.

Sometimes we don't get very much validation for our work. Or, the validation we do get can make us default to the idea that we aren't ready, good enough, or on the right track. As a human being, I run into this kind of thinking in my own head all the time. This week I have had multiple reminders of how important it is to bring you to the work you do. I was reminded while my coach, MJ Walsh, had a session with me. I was reminded when I gave a little pep talk email to students. And, I was reminded when I sat down to tickle the ebony and ivory keys this week on the piano. As Dr. Suess so wisely stated, “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” Tune in today for some nudges to keep bringing you to your work.
In this Self-Coaching episode, Lauren and I discuss how nature can become our best teacher and healer. So, what can we learn from becoming more observant of nature? For starters, tolerance, acceptance, harmony and a sense of connectedness. Your congested inner life of anticipations, regrets, and incessant rumination begins to recede as you open yourself up to the outer world around you. Nature doesn't discriminate, we do! Humans are always living in a binary world of good-bad, positive-negative, right-wrong, and yet, who's to say unequivocally that vegans are better than vegetarians or democrats are better than republicans? For you to libertate yourself and be free of self-doubt and insecurity, you must manifest your intrinsic worth and beauty--your "nature." How? By being who and what you are, without comparisons, without regret. Minding the words of Dr. Suess, "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.

Why you get so angry can give a clear direction about who you truly are. It’s a matter of the heart. Your anger can indicate what you hold most dear. As they became more whole, the anger started to simmer, then boil, and then it flowed over the containment of their life. It was, in a frightening way, beautiful and needed to happen. Anger can be highly destructive. But flowing out without constraint can damage and burn. We all have this capacity to pour out our emotions of being hurt, mistreated, abused. Some of the deepest hurts come from those we are in the closest relationship to. Those who we would hope and expect to know our hearts are often the ones who will not listen and show love and respect to our tender places. I think of the patterns we set up so young to defend that tender heart. A little bruise, and a little slight, and we begin to build a fortress. ‘No one is ever going to hurt me again like that.’ And if that tender small inner child ever gets a poke or a prod, then out comes the angry army. I get angry. I get hurt. But I don’t want my anger to overflow and burn up the relationships I hold dear. Yes, those close to me may trigger an unbearable feeling, and I want to lash out in response, but I, as an adult, have to take responsibility for myself. My response is my responsibility. What is it under the fury and fire of your anger that is causing you to explode? Perhaps if we look at gender differences, we might find a clue. An angry man The chief fear of a man is that he is weightless, that there is nothing substantial or powerful about him. That he is not going to make much difference in his world, in his relationships, particularly with women, with the children he has, and with his friends. The lies he says to himself are ‘I’m useless,’ ‘I never do anything right,’ ‘Everything I do, I fail in.’ Every angry man I have talked with has a common theme—a loss of respect. They want it from those they care about, but when it is not given, they demand, cajole, and try harder to win approval. They want someone to see and acknowledge their purpose even though they may dismiss it themselves. The question to ask is, ‘How has their purpose been dismissed’? Read more about men here. An angry woman The chief fear of a woman is undesirability. At the core of a women’s being, they ask – ‘Is there anything desirable about me. If a man really saw me, would he want me? Would he find me desirable, not just as a sex partner, but would he find me desirable at all.’ The lies they say to themselves are ‘I am ugly, both externally and internally,’ ‘No one loves me,’ ‘I have no beauty.’ Every angry woman I have talked with has a common theme—a loss of love. They want to have it from those they care about, but when it is not given, they demand, cajole, and try harder to win love. They want someone to see and acknowledge their inner beauty even though they may dismiss it themselves. The question to ask is, ‘How has their beauty been tarnished’? Read more here Men and Women are different. Embracing the heart What is it about the heart, that seat of the emotions, which is crucial to our wellbeing? We sing about it, draw ‘heart-shaped’ images, give flowers, and so desire for it to be touched in delicate meaningful ways. I wonder what your heart is like? What shaped its tenderness or toughness? What is it like for your heart to be known, explored, discovered, and touched? Perhaps the fire of anger could be the signal that something of that little child within wants attention. As you explore yourself, an awareness of injustice is growing and needs to be acknowledged and heard. You begin to see that the heart could have been treated with love and respect, but it wasn’t. The injustice of it all is like kindling to a fire waiting for a spark. What would it be like to have your heart listened to without judgment? With no parent figure dismissing your feelings or telling you to ‘Shut up.’ Then one comes, and a gift of empathy is offered. Wisdom is shared about how we live in an unjust and unfair world, but we have a God of justice, mercy, and grace. Oh, for a friend that will listen and sit with the heart of a hurting man or woman, girl or boy. The mystery of heart change It’s quite a mystery to me about how the heart changes. Mystical in the sense that it seems that there is a disorderly order to this dance. A little bit of this and a little bit of that, and things begin to move. It’s poetry, not formulas and facts. Larry Crabb writes this. In Successful Psychotherapy: A Caring, Loving Relationship, psychologists C.H. Patterson and Hidore admit that psychotherapy is in chaos. Their solution is worth a second look. Profession helping efforts, they suggest, should abandon identifying specific diagnosable disorders and coming up with specific technical treatment plans. They should instead focus on one simple yet profound idea – that the essence of all successful psychotherapy is love. Larry Crabb Becoming a True Spiritual Community: A Profound Vision of What the Church Can Be When we are angry, we need love. A kind of love that has learned to listen for the pain under the fury. Becoming whole through anger I don’t like anger, I especially don’t like people being angry with me, but every emotion has an invite. What pushes your buttons and why? There is something at the core of your being that is wildly good and beautiful. It has a purpose and a power to change our world. Yet, most of us are hardly aware of it. It is like a small seed, a mustard seed, that is waiting to germinate and grow. We get angry when it is threatened, mistreated, overlooked, despised. When love comes to town, it waters that seed and stimulates the growth. I’ve seen it happen in many people. A little encouragement, an affirmation, some praise, and that beautiful heart starts to sing a new song. It’s that tender shoot that a few brutal words can so easily cut down. Growing out of the bruises 1. You become aware of your unique self.As you look at your heart, what do you hold valuable and precious? What is it about you that is delightfully different from others? A clue might be found in where you get triggered. What is significantly and uniquely special about you? There is ‘no one youer than you,’ as Dr. Seuss would say. 2. You draw a line around you. It’s a line of love and respect. Some people call this a boundary, but in a deeper way, it’s a line where you define who you are and who you are not. This is me. I have these values and beliefs. 3. You protect. Some people don’t show any love or respect for your ‘Youer than you’ self. They can be like a bull in a china shop. Wrecking and destroying with every mindless swish of a tail. Not noticing your beauty and purpose. Not caring. So you protect. You don’t let any old person into that precious place of dreams and hopes. You assess their safety. Are they safe to have in your land of beauty and passion? Intimacy (In-to-me-see) is a gift, not a right. The power to protect is your hands. You only let those in that have demonstrated a safe pair of hands. Your anger is the symptom of a violation of the line. So then you wonder ‘where has your heart been violated’? 4. You nurture and heal That angry place, that sore bruise or wound, deserves special loving attention. You are kind to yourself. As a wise and loving parent, you speak words of compassion and love to that small child that is hurt. As someone who knows you better than anyone else, you speak what needs to be said. 5. You learn from the bruises How have the bumper car experiences of life shaped your direction? Perhaps it’s time to take the steering wheel yourself and drive your own life. One of the greatest gifts we can give each other is to gently explore the ‘Youer than You’ nature of each other. When you or your friend gets angry, it’s an invite to help define what is inside the lines of love and respect. Summary Your anger can indicate what you hold most dear. Why you get so angry can give a clear direction about who you truly are. It’s a matter of the heart. Quotes to consider Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You. Dr. Seuss I have learned to use my anger for good. . . . Without it, we would not be motivated to rise to a challenge. It is an energy that compels us to define what is just and unjust. Gandhi Believe it or not, no-one can actually make you angry. You choose your own reaction so quickly it’s hard to believe you did it by yourself. D. Riddell Questions to consider If you were to draw a picture of yourself, what words and sentences would you write inside yourself? When you last got angry, what in your heart got triggered? What would it be like to be known, explored, discovered, and touched? Further reading Barry Pearman Photo by Mehrnegar Dolatmand on Unsplash

What your neighbor needs now is love but they often encounter indifference. We need to find a way to listen to them and tell them they are loved. I wonder at times that under depression and anxiety, there is a deep unmet need for love. That many are love-starved and are unaware of it. There are a lot of lonely people; maybe you’re one of them. I want to tell you that you are loved, but ‘Love’, I believe, is the most dangerous word in the world. When heard, it can be twisted into all sorts of meanings and intentions that were never meant. Romanticized, sexualized, it can take on a life of its own. I love my wife, my family, and my friends. Sounds right and proper, but what about saying ‘You are loved’ to someone who is struggling with depression or anxiety. Someone is psychotic? Would they hear it within the intention that you are seeking to speak from? Everyone needs to know they are loved. You are loved because Why are you loved? That’s quite a profound question, and for many people, they may dispute that they are loved at all. They have tied love into being the result of a performance. When they do these certain activities or behaviors, then they will be loved. If they look a certain way, say the right words, cook the perfect meal, earn a certain amount of money, then they will be loved. If they follow the rules then they will experience love. They put the power of hoped-for love into other’s hands. Always risky and fraught with potential manipulation and servitude. You are loved because you are you. Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You. Dr. Seuss I’m not indifferent to you What would be the perfect behavior of love? How would you know 100% that you are loved? I think it would be that you feel that you have been genuinely listened to. That you are acknowledged and known. That the lover, the one who is listening, has not been indifferent in any way to your heart. The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. Elie Wiesel Indifference kills relationship. It’s those words of ‘whatever’, ‘I don’t care’, ‘tell that to someone who cares’, ‘can’t be bothered’ that will shoot the already wounded. The greatest lover of all time, Jesus, was never indifferent to the needs of those whom others were indifferent to. He stepped into the world of shame and failure and had love feasts with the outcasts. Those on the sideline and not in the game. Those discarded and invalidated by others. As I write this, I keep thinking of a picture by David Hayward and the story it comes from. It comes from the story of Jesus and the woman caught in adultery. John 8:1-11 She was about to be stoned for supposed crimes. Can you imagine the terror and anxiety flooding her? Love reached out and saturated her life. Taping into love For every broken hurting person, I would like them to hear and know that they are loved. I wonder what would happen if when we exchanged words of farewell such as ‘Bye,’ we instead said the words ‘You are loved’. Perhaps it would cause people to think about the vast reservoir of love that is contained around them at all times. This week as I write, it has been one year since the tragic killings in Christchurch. A man stormed into two Christchurch mosques and with a semi automatic rifle slaughtered men, women, and children. Were we indifferent to the pain? No, love flooded and burst out all around this broken community. Love conquered hate. Indifference never got a look in. Around every one of us, and especially around you, is a vast untameable lake of love, and it needs to be taped into. The Bible may tell us so As a child, I learned that I was loved by Jesus because ‘The Bible tells me so’. That’s a left-brained, logic-based, cold fish approach to knowing something. I want to know that love with the depth of experiential awareness. Full emotional awareness like being held and embraced in the depth of a storm. Having a waterfall of powerful flowing love washing and pounding against me. I can’t experience that love without you, and you can’t experience it without me. There has to be a crossing over the divide of rugged independence and self-reliance to the truth of interdependence. Listening for love in all the right places Why does it have to take a funeral before people come and express their gratitude and love for someone? Does it have to be mass murder before the community says we love? I want to know I am loved and have worth beyond my role, my functionality, and strength or beauty. Can you tell me I am loved? Why is it that so much of who you are is wrapped in what you do and how you do it. But what really matters is who you are. Time to strip it down! And it's not the kind of stripping you might be thinking of. It's bringing you back to the basics, the fundamentals of you...Who you are! Maybe you've even tried to write the "elevator speech" that gives a glimpse of who you are. But because life happens, you find yourself saying who you are by the hats you're wearing, all these different layers. The mom of so many children. A wife to an OK husband. The volunteer at church who teaches Sunday School. A member of the music boosters club. The physical fit woman showing her super powers. If you were to strip it down and remove all the hats you wear, standing in the middle of a field, who are you? What are you seeing in the mirror? The tons of layers of make-up and sprays to hide what you wish you could uncover? The aching heart wishing for something more than what you have currently. The pitiful smile that looks more like a frown turn upside down with no sparkle. A lot of the times we find ourselves watching someone else live our life. It's simply because you don't know who you are without the hats. Strip it down. You were created on purpose for a purpose. Before I get into podcast #4 - I have a quote for you. “Today you are YOU, that is TRUER than true. There is NO ONE alive who is YOUER than YOU!” - Dr. Seuss Today's episode covers how I've both benefited from patience and times where I used patience as an excuse to remain stagnant and do busy work, rather than innovate my life. Including examples of my times as a blogger and attending the Disney Social Media Moms conference in Miami 2018. Today we will discuss are you being authentic? Then the fun you can have with your Alexa. A great movie podcast that you can use to impress your friends with little known facts finally a comic book that will make you wonder. This episode is jam packed so let’s get started. ----more---- “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” ― Dr. Seuss Are you being authentic? Do you act or speak in a totally different way when certain people are around you? Now I don’t mean you stop swearing when you are with your 7 year old child is around. I should preface this with the fact I am not perfect at this all of the time. I am human, however I am very mindful about being genuine now than I was 10 years ago. As the saying goes with age comes wisdom. This is only my opinion. If you are already being authentic great, I just wanted to bring awareness to this subject for those of us who need a reminder. What I mean is do you change your personality based on who’s around you? For example I am in B2B sales, I have seen many other sales reps over the years really turn on the charm to the point it can make you nauseas. They over promise and under deliver. I try to do the opposite under promise and over deliver. I try not to promise something I can’t keep, I am sure it costs me some sales, but at least I can say I was honest and I wasn’t being fake. Some other examples of this is a podcast I listen to the host really turns on the radio voice. You know the voice. I later heard him in an interview for another podcast and his radio voice was nowhere to be heard. Why? I mean I know why, but why not be honest with your audience on or off the mic? I could tell when I first listened to his podcast I could immediately tell the radio voice was fake, the other interview just confirmed my suspicion. I know another podcast who never swears on the podcast, but their twitter feed is full of curse words. Why? I’m sure we can agree we don’t like people who are fake. I do my best to give you honesty and not be fake. Based on the two previous examples the voice you hear now in front of the mic is the same you would hear off of the mic. I rarely swear of the mic and you will rarely hear me swear on the mic, that’s just the way I am. Again I try to be honest on and off the mic. The two a fore mentioned guys are successful and creative I wonder if they could take their creativity to the next level if they were consistent. This is just a thought that came to me the other day and wanted to flesh it out. Another example of this is the comic book artist and writer Alan Moore. Comic book artist Alan Moore took on the Rob Liefields Supreme title at Image comics said he would only do it if he had full control. He wanted to be able to write the character as he saw fit, to be the best writer he could be he needed the flexibility to do whatever he wanted with the title. At first it sounds as if he is being over controlling, but he wanted to be able to be himself and not have someone else force him to be something he isn’t. Since he had established himself with Watchmen and other titles, he could ask for more than a new struggling artist. Part of the benefit of being successful, but a good example of someone wanting to be themselves. How about Jaime Hyneman, the co-host of mythbusters. He is well known for being stoic all the time. They did an episode where people had to try to guess the persons emotions by only seeing their eyes. Before they gave the examples the crew Adam Jayme and others had to make a face depending on their emotions. Happy, sad, angry and so forth. With Jayme his facial expressions were all the same. He was being him, when they approached him about doing the show, they needed to add a co-host with more emotion, to appeal to the viewers. Because he said he couldn’t act more emotional. He wanted to be him. Sometimes I see blatant dishonesty, on a podcast about podcasting I heard a guy promoting a podcast hosting service. On the site they said they were the world’s most popular podcast hosting site. The host called him out and he said they need to say something like that to attract customers, even though it was a lie. Wow! Whatever you create be real be authentic, even if it stinks you can stand tall knowing you tried and it’s you not an imitation of someone else. Like last episode just start you can modify and correct later. Like this podcast I will be make changes as we go, but it will always be nerdy stuff, because that's me. You won’t get any fantasy football episodes or NBA final week stuff. People who like that stuff great that’s their thing it’s just not me. People can tell fairly quickly if you are being genuine or faking. Very few can pull off a long term deception. I know this sounds cliché, just be yourself Tech Talk I got an Amazon dot a few weeks ago and we are enjoying all the things it can do, one thing I found was interactive audio stories, just like the choose your own adventure stories. You listen to small snippets of the story then you get to pick an option. It’s like an audio drama you would have heard in the 30’s and 40’s, but instead of being one way you the listener get to decide what happens. There are sound effects and voice actors who play the parts of the characters. There are several to choose from Wayne investigations where you try to find out who killed Bruce Wayne's parents and the magical door which is a mystery fantasy type story. There are more too, but these are the ones we have been using so far. I find it fascinating, even though I am about 2 years behind. If you have an Alexa I encourage you to try these out. It likes like it’s not too difficult to make these types of skills, if you are a creator I would encourage you to make one, give it a shot. Whoever owns the rights to the old choose your own adventure books could easily translate these stores to an audio format. I love things like this. I think it’s more engaging that TV. My kids love it. Podcast shout out time. This time I want to get local, if you like movies you will love Underground Inc. Ben, Anthony and Billy are extremely knowledgeable and funny. The insight they have about the movies they watch is incredible, I am always amazed at the trivial things I learn when listening to them comment while watching a movie. I have met Ben personally and he is a great guy. It’s like an audio version of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Except they watch popular movies instead of B movies. Check them out Underground Inc. Comic Book Commentary I read through Y: The Last Man from Vertigo it explores the idea of what would happen to the planet if all male mammals suddenly died. Written by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra In 2002 The reader finds out quickly there was two males who didn’t die the main character Yorick and his pet monkey. Yorick is a struggling escape artist who spends the entire series trying to get to his girlfriend who is in Australia while he was in Washington DC when the pandemic occurs. We follow his journey and along the way he finds out who and what may have caused the plague. Yorick is accompanied by agent 355 who is his bodyguard along the way on his journey. Being the last male he has to survive to continue the human race. The story gives insight to the chaos the world is suddenly plunged into and the violent factions start to develop like the militant Daughters of the Amazon and other smaller gangs. I thought this was a good read, I like it because it has a defined start and a definite end, 60 issues. The author wasn’t trying to keep going just to keep going. It’s long enough to tell the story. The story moves fast enough to keep you interested and the art was good. It’s Vertigo and has a lot of language, nudity and blood, defiantly not kids friendly IMO. You can find it on Amazon, I will have links in the show notes at covertnerd.net Check it out and let me know what you think. It won a few awards and Brian K Vaughn has written some other works that were very successful like Saga and If you would like to be on the show send in your question or comments either in MP3 format or written to cn@covertnerd.net.
