Kate Markland - The Markland Clinic, Founder, The Markland Method, Cotswold Leisure Centre, Cirencester, UKI have been a successful hands-on Physiotherapist for many years and have always believed Contemporary Healthcare should be delivered in an inspiring, energetic, caring and professional way, for both the clients and the team alike. During a period of personal reflection and change, I realized I was a liability to my own business and that the safest option was to trust and support my team with a system they could understand and connect with. My goal was to enable my team to confidently run AND grow the business profitably without me physically being present all the time. After much research, I was unable to find a course or program that was suited to what I needed because much of what already existed simply lacked the basic fundamentals of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome.Disappointed in what I found, I decided to create a system teaching clinicians the anatomy and physiology of business so they can apply their clinical reasoning skills to their business and create healthy sustainable profitable clinics.  There is relative decrease in social funding for non-emergency healthcare and increase in privatization of healthcare delivery.  Small clinic businesses lack business education in language they can relate too.I named the program The Markland Method – a biological model for running a profitable business in a language that healthcare businesses already understand. The Markland Method value proposition is teaching clinicians the fundamentals of how to run a business and how to apply their knowledge of structure and function, and the principles of business assessment, diagnosis, treatment, outcome.”You can learn more about The Markland Method by clicking here: https://marklandmethod.com

There is no tourism right now in Chile, the restaurants and beaches are closed. Natalia states some tourists still try to come despite warnings, to the frustration of residents. Social outbursts are happening in Chile due to high prices of products such as facial masks and basic foods. There have already been social outbursts in Chile before the pandemic. People want to take to the streets and protest paying for education, inequality, public healthcare, and the treatment of elderly health, her country has been fighting for these issues since last October. She believes the government is not handling the crisis well and confusing people with what to do during quarantine. In Santiago, people must print passes to leave their homes, however due to poor Internet, people leave their homes without one.  Her country is expecting to have to be quarantined until the end of May. I am 22 years old I have suffered with a learning disability that makes it hard for me to understand things and communicate with other people.  This challenge has given me severe anxiety and depression for the greater portion of my life. I was bullied a lot through school.  Kids knocked me down and would tell me I was fat, ugly, retarded, never going anywhere with my life, and so much more.More than once, I wanted to end my life.I was homeschooled for most of high school and I spent most of my time with my Grandmother.  Those who know me know my Grandmother was my whole life. She passed away my senior year and it took a tremendous toll on me. Somehow, some way, I found the strength and decided to go back to school. I got into college and my first semester was great!  The second semester rolled around and three more family members had passed away.  My depression began to get worse again and I decided to take some time off of school to figure out what I wanted to do. I am so happy I did.Today I am a cosmetologist with a great job supported by my amazing coworkers. I have a beautiful group of friends who all go above and beyond to make each other laugh and feel good about themselves. I have my mom and my sister who have never left my side. They are always my biggest fans and always help pick me up when I'm down. I am sharing my story because I've been seeing many beautiful souls take their lives because of people who are mean – even brutal. These bullies do not (or will not) open their minds and realize that words hurt! My mission in life is to help people feel beautiful inside and out.  I want to help anyone who is having a hard time understand that one-day it WILL BE okay and you will find your way! You will love life and you will understand why you are important to the world.  Everyone is important! You are Worth it! You are Strong. You are Powerful.

I'm the adoptive mother of two strong willed, amazing children and the Director of Education for The Lands at Hillside Farms. My hobbies include tripping over toys, drinking coffee like it is my sole life force, and guessing what the stains on my clothing are from. As the Director of Education at The Lands at Hillside Farms, I have the pleasure of using fun phrases like, “Just put that box of skulls in the trunk so you can sit in the car” and “Hold on a second, the goat has her head stuck again”. Most of my coworkers have feathers, fur, or four legs. Teaching vulnerable youth actually helped me begin diving into the world of foster care after seeing the need in our community. My family was built through foster care and we have been unbelievably fortunate throughout our process. My husband and I began the process in January of 2017, and received the call for our son two days after being approved. The next day, he was in our arms. We brought our daughter home from the NICU five months later. Raising two infants/toddlers 16 months apart in age has been quite the experience.  (Hence the coffee.) Navigating the world of foster care and adoption has been an eye opening experience for me. I learned things about myself I didn't know were possible. Not only did we become a family through our experience, but we've added so many “extended family members” to our tribe. Although it was a bumpy ride, our kids made every moment worthwhile. Websites of interest:  http://adoptpakids.orghttp://hillsidefarms.org

I was perceived to have it all.  From the outside looking in, I had a happy marriage, three loving, happy children, a happy life.  I worked when I wanted, spent what I needed and had few true responsibilities.  A privileged existence filled with fun and games, parties, and exotic vacations.  Silly, shallow and totally carefree. That season came to a screeching halt the day my sweet son, my middle child, lost control of his car and slammed into a stone wall.  My world turned from color into black and white.   In that one moment all of our lives were altered, and our paths changed forever.  After intensive surgeries my son was just an unmoving, minimally conscious body, kept alive only with the help of machines, monitors, wires, and loud, piercing bells. What was left according to medical charts and the doctors in their own insensitive words, was a vegetable, was no hope, was a severe case of traumatic brain injury.  What was left was not the boy I knew and loved and mothered for 17 years.  I still had a warm body, but on that day I lost Damon. My professional background was certified public accounting.  I had no real medical knowledge whatsoever.  Yet, I had to make the choice at the very start to either give up hope and listen to the professionals or wrap myself in a cloak of utter denial and begin the fight for my son's return to life. I had to push away the scared, frivolous girl and find a strength in a woman I never knew I was.  I had to stand tall and fight like hell for Damon while also, within the very next few years, fight through a nasty divorce, fight to keep  strong relationships with my daughters, and learn how to stand alone after my dad unexpectedly died, followed almost immediately by my mom's death a year later.  Somehow, in my darkest moments, I chose hope.  I chose the motto, “There is no option.”  I chose to believe that Damon would heal.  I chose to believe that love does indeed conquer all. My story is not clinical.  Rather, it is one of faith, a mother's healing love, common sense, gut instinct, blind hope, and miracles.  It is the story of an amazing boy who just refused to give up; it is the story of the rippling effects traumatic brain injury has on family and friends. And it is the story of choosing post-traumatic growth over post-traumatic stress. Please read more of my story on www.kpyros.com or follow me on my facebook page: Karen Pyros.

I was born and raised in South Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and attended Wilkes-Barre Area School District.  After graduation from Meyers High School, I attended Kings College, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Business.  I earned my MBA at Wilkes College.  In 1976 I took a job in Quality Control at CertainTeed Corporation, located in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania. Through determination and hard work, I became the first woman throughout the corporation to earn the rank of supervisor. Unfortunately, I began to have health challenges and was ultimately diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This led me to an early retirement.  I knew I needed something to motivate me to keep moving despite having MS coupled with my deep desire to serve the “underdog,” literally. My “A ha” moment came when I realized that owning a horse farm provided a tremendous opportunity, as well as land, to launch a no-kill animal shelter. From there, Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge was born.  Blue Chip is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that provides long-term and permanent care to displaced and discarded animals.  We do not euthanize. Most creatures end up with us because of circumstances beyond their control. Abuse, abandonment, illness, and aging bring many paws to our doorstep, where we happily take them in and care for them until they find a forever home, or for as long as they need us to.I believe people often create problems with animals, mainly dogs.https://www.bcfanimalrefuge.orgPhoto Credit The Times Leader / Dallas Post.
