We start off today talking about the time after you have your baby and are still consuming a lot of calories. Rosie started noticing after a couple of weeks that her legs seemed a bit swelled up and after talking to a specialist and looking over the healthy portion of her diet, they realized she had too many healthy fats, but not enough protein, which was making her more hungry. We talk about the diet Rosie went on and how much she had to cut down in order to get rid of her baby weight. Then we give some stories and tips on how to get your kids to cooperate in eating and Adam tells his story of his day of disgust and when he realized his own weight problem. Rosie tells about her image and how she can fool herself because her weight generally distributes very evenly throughout her body, and then how this affects how she feels physically. We discuss what point you have to reach before people are going to be able to help you or you're willing to change. What I did while I was working and I was pregnant 8:45What got me excited about my diet 10:04A tip for getting your kids to eat food they don't want to 12:27Adam's day of disgust 13:22“My body shape hides weight very evenly. So I can fool myself because I can have weight on, but to the outside world I might look the same weight if that makes sense because my body shape doesn't change that much. But I could feel myself going backwards after the birth and I realized that after another while, it would be more obvious.” -Rosie “It wasn't the visual side. It was just you weren't feeling good.” -Adam 16:12https://www.facebook.com/theirishmummy/ https://www.instagram.com/the_irish_mummy/https://www.theirishmummy.comhttps://www.theirishmummy.com/ebook
What You’ll Learn From This Episode: Getting quality leads without spending ton of money How to professionally set-up your LinkedIn profile Strategic way to sell on LinkedIn Related Links and Resources: Get your giveaway copy of John’s entire book "LinkedIn Riches." The audio book, the E-book, the PDF, the kindle, whatever version you want. Just visit www.Linkedinriches.com. Summary: John Nemo is a bestselling LinkedIn Author & Trainer who has been featured by LinkedIn's official marketing blog, Social Media Examiner, Entrepreneur on Fire, Inc. Magazine, Huffington Post, Business Insider and many others. John has personally rewritten the LinkedIn profiles of Chris Brogan, John Lee Dumas, Mari Smith, Dan Miller, Ray Edwards, Tom Ziglar (son of Zig Ziglar), Jairek Robbins (son of Tony Robbins) and many other A-List business names and entrepreneurs. Here are the highlights of this episode: 1:48 John’s ideal Client: It's definitely business coaches, consultants, solopreneurs, small business owners and anyone who is in-charge of their own business, company or their own brand. 2:06Problem John helps solve: Lead generation. Getting people quality leads without spending a ton of money on advertising or playing professional footsie at network events, and all those other things we hate to do. Definitely the problem I solve is getting quality leads quickly with minimal expense. 2:46Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to John: I think people come to me feeling frustrated, feeling like they've been pass-by. I used to do cold calls, I used to do ads, I used to do networking events and it's not working. I've been living of referrals and those went away, I'm obsolete, how do I get in the game here. And also, those inquisitive and curious wondering there's something going on with LinkedIn, I'm not quite sure how to capitalize on this. But I feel like there's an opportunity here, you seem someone who can help me. That's definitely the state people come to me in. 3:45What are some of the common mistakes that folks make before finding John and his solution: The biggest mistake that people make in approaching LinkedIn is treating it like it's still their resume, and not making a profile in what I called "client face-in", and not being about the problems that you solve or the audience that you serve. That's the number one mistake that people make. The other big mistake that people make on LinkedIn is to try to marry everyone in the first day; they immediately connect and try to sell you something. And you need to practice a little professional courtship and build some rapport. You wouldn't do that in real life, you wouldn't sit down across from me face-to-face meeting for the first time in a coffee shop and ask for a discovery session. You wouldn't do that. Those are the two big mistakes; profile set up wrong and trying to sell. 4:59John’s Valuable Free Action (VFA): With you LinkedIn profile, the most important thing is your headline, right under your name and your photo. Change your headline from CEO (company name), your title, but, no one cares about themselves. Change it to the audience you serve and the service you provide. (example) It will be Business coaching for (blank) audience or SCO for (blank) audience, or lead generation for (blank) audience. Service + audience, that's one quick win you can write. 5:45John’s Valuable Free Resource (VFR): I'm going to giveaway copy of my entire book "LinkedIn Riches." The audio book, the E-book, the PDF, the kindle, whatever version you want. Go to www.Linkedinriches.com. You can download the entire book for free, and that's my whole playbook, scripts, for free, it's all those goodies. 6:27How do you actually sell on LinkedIn? One is client-facing profile and I talk all about that in the book, how to make it all about the audiences you serve. Two is build a rapport, treat it like a one-on-one coffee meeting, break the ice,

Sinéad explains that she loved Biology in school but unlike many others did not have a long term ambition to become a nurse. It was when she began studying the anatomy of the face on a Make Artistry course when she first left school that she decided to apply for nursing. 4:05 - 6:30The Joys and Challenges of a Nursing DegreeSinéad discusses her early fears on nursing placements and how talking with classmates really helped. Imposter syndrome is discussed and the importance of working on the balance between comfort and trying new things6:30 - 11:45What is the final year internship all about?Sinéad describes the process of the internship, the responsibilities and how previous placements prepare you for the challenge. Although with a greater role, interns still have the support of their nurse in charge and the wider team. The biggest change is that you are an employee, have a contract and are paid! Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team is very interesting and it is important to have good communication and respect for all of your co-workers.11.45- 17:30Health is not just absence of illnessSinéad explains the power of a multi-disciplinary team to maximise patients' health and their ability to thrive at home. There has not been time yet to reflect fully on working during this time as she is too busy and focussed on the job in hand. It will take time.26:15 - 37:30Sinéad's personal story of contracting Covid 19Sinéad explains her initial symptoms, going to the test centre and sharing the news with her family. The family had to work closely together to ensure that she was looked after but also prevent anyone else getting it. No other member of her family contracted the virus. To explain how easy for this virus to spread she suggested to think of it like glitter and how that gets everywhere!37:30 - 41:15What is the future of nursing?Sinéad explains that respect for the profession has grown and that she hopes this will continue. Today on "State of Wonder," we talk finalists for the Oregon Book Awards in fiction, poetry, graphic literature, and more."Strange the Dreamer" with Laini Taylor — 1:42Laini Taylor possesses an epic imagination. In her best-selling “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” series, she dreamed up a world where a girl who has a monster as a foster parent gets caught up in an epic war with not-so-benevolent angels. And now she is starting a new series with “Strange the Dreamer,” the story of a day-dreaming librarian who journeys to a fabled land living in the shadow of a war it has yet to recover from. The book received Michael L. Printz Honors for Young Adult lit and is a finalist for the YA Oregon Book Award."American War" with Omar El Akkad — 11:46Journalist Omar El Akkad has spent his career covering the Arab Spring in Egypt, military trials at Guantanamo Bay, refugee camps in Afghanistan and the Black Lives Matter movement in Ferguson, MO. Now he’s poured all of his experiences into his new novel “American War,” a story about a second American civil war over fought over fossil fuels and set in a Louisiana that is underwater from rising sea levels."Field Theories" with Samiya Bashir — 19:36In her newest book, Samiya Bashir has named her poems after scientific principles like “Plancks Constant” and “Synchronous Rotation.” Their verse plumbs the space where theory collides with real life: from the back seat of a taxi cab to jazz clubs, early morning cigarettes, gun violence, and tall tales. Bashir is a creative writing professor at Reed College and a consummate artist who can’t be contained by the page. "Field Theories” is a finalist for the Stafford/Hall Award for Poetry."Fetch" With Nicole Georges — 30:45What do we owe the pets in our lives when they don’t make our lives easy? And what can we gain from taking care of these animal companions despite their foibles? These are some of the questions illustrator and comic book artist Nicole Georges asked when writing her graphic memoir “Fetch: How a Bad Dog Brought Me Home.” The book focuses on Georges’ symbiotic relationship with a spirited, neurotic and sometimes fearfully aggressive dog named Beija, and it's a contender for the Oregon Book Award for Graphic Literature. “In the Pocket of Small Gods” with Anis Mojgani — 38:34The poet Anis Mojgani isn’t up for one of Literary Arts' Oregon Book Awards — at least not this year — but he is a Literary Arts favorite. He regularly emcees Verselandia, the annual high school poetry slam organized by Literary Arts, and he is himself a two-time National Poetry Slam Champion who tours the country reading and performing.Mojgani’s work is known for its optimism and joy, but his newest book,“In the Pockets of Small Gods,” is all about vulnerability, particularly as it relates to grief.
In honor of Mothers everywhere, we have several stories about new projects being brought into the world this week: a film project that's all about learning from the past, the Eugene Symphony's three ambitious new compositions, and a play that takes us across the boarder. Plus, Charles Bradley sings tribute to his own mom.Into the Beautiful NorthAn adaptation of Luis Alberto Urrea’s bestselling novel “Into the Beautiful North” premieres at Milagro Theatre this week. The story follows three women from a small town in Mexico—a town with a total male population of zero. Immigration to the US has lured their community's men away, but our heroines, spurred on by the classic western flick “The Magnificent Seven,” are determined to bring back at least half a dozen of the good ones.Rough Waters for Arts Central - 4:50For twenty years, the Bend-based nonprofit Arts Central has brought arts education to central Oregon under the leadership of executive director Cate O’Hagan. Last month, though, O’Hagan quit after coming into conflict with the organization’s board over her role and the nonprofit's office space. We look at what this could mean for the region.Changes, from Charles Bradley - 8:47NPR called Charles Bradley’s “the most unlikely soul career of the millennium,” and the singer’s new album, “Changes,” reflects this and more. Bradley talks with NPR's David Greene about the album's unlikely starting place in a Black Sabbath cover, before opening up about how deeply the album is influenced by the loss of his mother. Bradley plays the Crystal Ballroom on May 19.The Portland Queer Documentary Film Festival Is One of a Kind - 16:33Every year, the Portland Queer Documentary Film Festival, or QDoc for short, brings films (and often their makers) from around the world to Portland, about subjects ranging from gay athletes to New Zealand's favorite yodeling lesbian twins. It's the only such festival in the world, and this year it celebrates its 10th year May 19–22 at the Hollywood Theater. The co-founder David Weissman, a filmmaker best known for his docs "The Cockettes" and "We Were Here," stops by to talk about the festival and his newest project, "Conversations with Gay Elders."Eugene Symphony's Big 5-0 - 23:30The Eugene Symphony has a reputation for programming challenging works, but the symphony is pushing itself to a new level for its 50th anniversary with three new commissions by world class composers. Hear Oregon composer Robert Kyr's “Dawning of the World (Piano Concerto No. 1)” during the season finale on May 12.Return to Neverland with Peter and the Starcatcher - 30:45What does it take to recapture the wonder of being a kid? Turns out, the Tony-winning musical "Peter and the Starcatcher," which bills itself as a grown-ups' prequel to Peter Pan. We ask Broadway veteran Rodney Hicks to see the Portland Playhouse's local premiere for the next stop in our “What Are You Looking At?” series, and are rewarded with a night of uproarious laughs and unbridled imagination, playing through May 29.Mohsin Hamed - 38:58Pakistani and British author Mohsin Hamed reliably produces books with painfully clever titles and wisely-portioned doses of experimentation. His novels “The Reluctant Fundamentalist" and "How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia,” were short listed for the Man Booker Prize and made the New York Times Best Seller list, respectively. “Discontent and Its Civilizations,” a collection of essays, came out last year and his newest novel, “Exit West,” is slated for release in 2017. Hamed visited Portland recently and found time to sit down with Think Out Loud’s Dave Miller. It's always good to go out with a bang, so listen in for that conversation at the end of the show.
