It is the one year Anniversary of the reboot of the Dark Mark Show and Mark and Hannah celebrated with quite a wild show featuring legendary scream queen Deborah Dutch, sideshow madman Dangerous D. and sword swallower Cyrus Pynn Deborah talked about how a cheerleading accident led to her not pursuing a life as a ballerina (though she still can do the splits as she demonstrated), having her grandmother's friend Agnes Moorhead of Bewitched fame see her in a high school play, how dating a soft rock star (and smoking weed with a Beatle) led to her relocating to LA, where she got the lead in Bruce Lee Fights Back from the Grave. She did her own stunts and was dubbed badly in that movie and moved on from there to share the screen with Goldie Hawn, be in Miami Vice, and work with Roger Corman and get dubbed an official “Scream Queen” in the 90s. She is now working on her own sword wielding series of films “Hollywood Warrioress” Dangerous D may be married and has a newborn son, but he is by no means any less outrageous. He claims to swing his son from his ears, offered to give Mark a tattoo on the air. He also talked about his journey from Baltimore where he hit LA with $100 to his name, how he got on Ozzfest, what it takes to impress him and land a spot on his “Shock Show” troupe of performers and why he is producing Cyrus' one man show as a one-time only performance. Cyrus is also known as Cydeshow Cy and Cyrus the sword. debuting his show “Down The Hatch” in February in Los Angeles. He started juggling, fire eating, sword swallowing and doing all sorts of sideshow acts in Virginia and came out to audition for Dangerous D during a performance at Ozzfest and ended up moving in with him. He talks about all that can go wrong if you make a mistake and demonstrated swallowing 2 swords and eating a lightbulb. Mary, who had kept a diary for most of her life, found her words used as a sensationalized weapon against her in her quest to regain custody of her 4-year-old child in 1936 after her acrimonious divorce from her doctor husband. The trial made worldwide headlines. Her sexy, salacious diary entries showed the world a more sensual side to our virginal Mary, and, in many ways, helped propel her career into the stratosphere. Welcome to October 23, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate magical mother-in-laws and the official dessert of Massachusetts.   We're getting close to Halloween and if you think celebrating National Mother-In-Law Day is more than a little scary, here's something to lighten your spirits. The most magical, fictional mother-in-law award goes to … Agnes Moorhead as Endora on Bewitched. Not only did she possess witchy powers, she knew just how to wilt her son-in-law, Darren by simply refusing to call him by his real name. Durwood, Darwin, Dum Dum, What's His Name? If you can relate then celebrate this day with caution. On the other hand if you have a gem of a Mother-In-Law you'll probably want to thank your lucky stars. When it comes to dessert, Boston Cream Pie has a confusing name. With its delicious layers of sponge cake, pastry cream and a shiny coat of chocolate, one has to wonder why it is called a pie? At the time the dessert was created, cakes and pies were baked in the same pans. Thus, their names became interchangeable. The dessert was created by a French pastry chef at the Parker House Hotel in Boston in the late 1800s, but a newly available ingredient put this dessert on the map: baking chocolate. The glistening layers of melted chocolate probably influenced the decision to make it the official dessert of Massachusetts in 1996. On National Boston Cream Pie Day, celebrate the irresistible dessert with a confusing name. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In the fall of 1937, Orson Welles was busy readying for a Mercury Theater broadway production of Julius Caesar. The agency Ruthrauff and Ryan approached Welles about the possibility of starring in a weekly radio series. His signing was announced in The New York Times on August 29th, 1937. Welles' contract allowed him to miss rehearsals and readings. He was paid seventy-five dollars per week, or roughly fifteen hundred today, for one-half hour of weekly work. On Sunday September 26th, at 5:30PM the new version of The Shadow debuted. The program's announcer was Ken Roberts. Opposite Welles as Margot Lane was Agnes Moorhead, along with many of the Mercury Theater players. The Shadow was Lamont Cranston, a wealthy man about town. He had the ability to cloak himself with invisibility and to read minds. They were tools of Mesmer, learned through years of study in the orient and India. Walter Gibson's involvement in the radio series was minimal. Clark Andrews directed the first few broadcasts with Martin Gabel becoming the de facto director thereafter.

I'd like to start by saying that within the first year of my acting career I was in five different television shows and one movie. Each and every one of those acting rolls were very different and I enjoyed them all. Therefore, it's rather interesting to go back and share with all of you an early time in my acting career as well as my personal life. Hope you're with me as I'm Absolutely with You. One of my favorites was a role in a Television series known as "GIDGET" starring a fresh newcomer known as SALLY FIELD.So, my friends, Here We Go !! Today's Podcast Episode is: "The War Between Gidget and Me" May I say, I was so excited actually "over the moon would be more like it" when I learned I'd been chosen by a known and respected Director, E. W. Swackhammer, to play Patty Cromwell; a somewhat snippy-snooty girl who thought she was "top of the line" in school. A girl that would get everything she wanted, and of course thought she was God's gift to any boy or guy. Although, before I continue with Gidget, I'd like to tell a short & kind of silly story, actually, to me, a funny story. I want to talk about what in particular, can happen behind the scenes, on sets, and on television. There are times, once in a while, those unusual things occur and I want to share one of them, especially IF they're unusual or Funny! Working with Directors can be lots of fun, sometimes difficult but always interesting. Why is that? Because there are times when the actor goes off script and is so far into the character that he or she is bringing to life more than the written script conveys. Check "Bewitched Episode #4 Agnes Moorhead vs Director". I recall a specific director/No Name & not Gidget, who was in a good mood and seemed as if he was very relaxed and that, my friends, can be a good thing. Right!!Most directors are spot-on serious, but I want to share something off the charts. There was a time, that one specific director was directing me in a scene and everything seemed to be going just peachy keen and fine. When all of a sudden he began to kind of giggle and then, out of nowhere yelled "CUT" in a firm voice in the middle of my scene which made Me nervous that I had done something wrong. Basically, I was so unsure as to Why he stopped everything. The director kept "Eyeing ME" which of course made Me feel as if I'd made a mistake. Or if someone else had done something because IT most assuredly was NOT I. You may not believe that I soon found out that someone, whom I didn't know, possibly a crew member, had Passed Wind and obviously had a gas problem that this director heard. Now, as I mentioned earlier, I had not heard anything, although our director HAD heard something and was very upset. To add insult to injury, he firmly said "whoever did it ... LEAVE NOW". Not a single sole walked out or confessed which irritated him even more and like a dog sniffing for a bone, he got up and looked around although not one person owned up to it. Not one person even Looked Guilty and why for what... I surely didn't know. I thought to myself it must be an inside joke. I mean I didn't know what to do or say and others were also shrugging their shoulders as if to say "I didn't do it" WHATEVER "It" was. Please recognize that unexpectedly and to my knowledge, there wasn't anyone confessing... what the heck are they or anyone supposed to be confessing?? Anyhow finally a person next to me whispered "Somebody farted ... I missed that, somebody what? Sorry, I just didn't hear you, what's happening? I couldn't hear you. I truly couldn't and On top of that, I knew that many were doing their best to hold back laughter and at this point, including me. the whole thing was redick. And another thing, Why was everyone looking around at everyone else??

Welcome to October 24, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate magical mother-in-laws and the first name in lunch meat.  Okay, we're getting close to Halloween and if you think celebrating National Mother-In-Law Day is more than a little scary, here's something to lighten your spirits. The most magical, fictional mother-in-law award goes to … Agnes Moorhead as Endora on Bewitched. Not only did she possess witchy powers, she knew just how to wilt her son in law, Darren by simply refusing to call him by his real name. Durwood, Darwin, Dum Dum, What's his name… Rumor has it that she hung out with Atilla the Hun, so this mother-in-law could be brutal. If you can relate then celebrate this day with caution. Best to avoid being turned into a toad. On the other hand if you have a gem of a Mother-In-Law you'll probably want to thank your lucky stars. Some foods leave behind the identity of the city or place they came from to take on a new role here in America. Bologna is one of these food immigrants. Beginning its life as mortadella, the beloved sausage meat came from the city of Bologna in Italy. Here, the papacy protected the recipe in 1661, to ensure it would be made with the right amount of lean pork, speckled with lumps of lard. In the United States bologna took off as a cheaper food during the Great Depression, with the war era war practice of rationing. But perhaps its greatest break came from a jingle in the 1970s. On National Bologna Day we celebrate the success of this immigrant whose first name has remained unchanged for almost 400 years.  I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. Way before streaming services came along and could easily show "limited series" like “The Queen's Gambit,” “Godless,” or “Mare of Easttown,” broadcast television back in the day excitedly came up with a new special way to present longer programs. Adding another episode of the 1937-38 premiere season of "The Shadow" which starred a 23 year-old Orson Welles... it was the only year he played the character of Lamont Cranston (aka The Shadow). Margo Lane was played by Agnes Moorhead. Incidentally the famous laugh and some of the other lines attributed to The Shadow were recorded by the original Shadow - Frank Readick jr. He did the famous laugh by laughing into an empty water glass beside a microphone. It was a cheap way of making a voice sound very different and was often used as part of the sound effects wizardry. This Shadow episode will be in the "Shadow" Playlist on this podcast.

Hang on to your husbands, girls! We watched Practical Magic (1998) with our friend Allison Levitan and the nudity is entirely optional, as you well remember! This movie has more wicked witchery than Stevie Nicks - and she’s heavily featured on the soundtrack.  Sandy (Bullock) and Nic (Kidman) are serving major lewks as the bewitching Owens sisters and Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are giving us major Agnes Moorhead as Endora vibes as their wacky aunts.  Tonal issues aside, this movie is a ton of fun and we forever Stan Sandy playing a no-nonsense empowered woman and Nic playing a flighty waif in an auburn wig.  Remember, theres a little witch in all of us. This is a snippet from Breaking Walls Episode 99: New Year's 1948 On The Air ____________ Much like Tuesday nights in 1948, NBC also dominated Wednesday’s audience. CBS managed just a single show in the top-ten and NBC’s only competition came from the American Broadcasting Company. At 8PM Eastern Time, live from Hollywood over NBC, The Dennis Day show took to the air. Jack Benny’s famous Irish tenor had been given his own solo show in October of 1946. He was zany… easily confused, and exhibited many of the same characteristics as his character on the Benny show, even if in solo show storyline, the same name and voice was said to be a coincidence. The show’s rating would be a healthy 18.2 in January of 1948. Opposite The Dennis Day show on ABC, Lionel Barrymore took to the air in Mayor of the Town. With the New Year here, it was a good time for the characters to sit in reflection—that is, if the Mayor’s housekeeper, Marilly—voiced by Agnes Moorehead—could just manage to keep quiet. Along with Ms. Moorehead and Mr. Barrymore, Mayor of the Town featured Conrad Binyon, Priscilla Lyon and Gloria McMillion. Despite a rating that peaked at 18.9 in February, Mayor of the Town left ABC’s airwaves at the end of the season. In late May, Noxima’s agency announced the sponsor was cancelling its sponsorship, effective June 30th, after four seasons. It was revived on MBS on January 2nd, 1949 with Mutual Benefit Insurance as the sponsor, but managed no higher than a 5 point rating in any month for the remainder of the season. Mayor of the Town departed the radio airwaves for good on July 3rd, 1949.

Redfield Arts Audio Presents Hollywood! On the Air! Peter Lorre in THE BLACK CAT Don't Forget to SUBSCRIBE! For more great audio visit http://www.RedfieldArtsAudio.com Welcome to “Hollywood! On the Air!”, where we present for your listening pleasure an audio treasure from radio’s Golden Broadcasting era. Great audio drama with some of the great actors of Hollywood and radio’s Golden Age of storytelling. Originally airing as a replacement show for one season in the summer and fall of 1947, the audio drama anthology series “Mystery in the Air” starred Peter Lorre in a drama that would allow him to go insane, or criminally insane, every week. Peter Lorre began is acting career in the stage in Vienna, and he became internationally famous after starring as the serial child murderer in Fritz Lang’s great film “M”, made in 1931. As the Nazi’s rose to power in Germany, Lorre, an Hungarian-born actor of Jewish decent, made his way to America in 1933. A powerhouse, a charismatic and perceptive actor, he quickly became typecast to play the villain in films and radio, but his filmography is much broader than what he is often remembered for. He starred in “The Man Who Knew Too Much” for Hitchcock in 1934, made in Great Britain. Lorre starred in eight “Mr. Moto” films for poverty row studio Monogram in the 1940s, but for the major studios like Warner Bros. Lorre starred in “Casablanca”, “Arsenic and Old Lace” for Columbia, and “20,000 Leagues under the Sea” for Walt Disney. Peter Lorre was the first on-screen Bond villain, playing Le Chiffre in the 1954 American television adaptation of “Casino Royale”. He appeared in several Roger Corman films in the 1960s, and Lorre died at the young age of 59, on March 23rd, 1964. Peter Lorre was popular on television and radio in the 1950s and 1960s. An actor of great intensity and great energy, and of sly wit and humor, as you will hear in this episode from the Golden Age of Radio Drama, 1947’s “The Black Cat”, adapted from the story by Edgar Allan Poe. And that voice! The marvelous, distinctive voice of Peter Lorre…Ah! They had voices then. Supported in these weekly shows by fine actors such as Agnes Moorhead, and announcer Harry Morgan.
