Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced on Tuesday that Derrick Dearman, a 35-year-old convicted of a brutal ax murder that claimed the lives of five people, will be executed by lethal injection next month. Dearman, who committed the gruesome killings in Citronelle, Alabama, in 2016, will be the fifth prisoner to be put to death in the state this year. Dearman was convicted for the horrific slaying of five friends and family members of his then-girlfriend, Laneta Lester, during a methamphetamine-fueled rampage. Among the victims was a pregnant woman, Chelsea Marie Reed, and her unborn child. The massacre took place in the early hours of August 20, 2016, after Dearman broke into a home in a remote area of Mobile County. Earlier this year, Dearman dismissed his legal counsel and halted all appeals against his conviction and death sentence. In a phone interview from death row, Dearman stated, “I've decided to drop my appeals and have my sentence carried out… I was fairly tried and convicted. I agreed with the court's decision. Whether I was in my right mind or not, innocent lives were lost and the crime was committed.” Governor Ivey revealed that Dearman will be executed between midnight on October 17 and 6 a.m. on October 18. He opted for lethal injection over nitrogen hypoxia, a newly introduced and controversial execution method in Alabama. Dearman, who had previously expressed reluctance to face execution, recently voiced frustration in a letter to the Alabama Attorney General's Office, accusing the state of delaying his death sentence. “I have done everything that is required to drop my appeals and have my sentence carried out... can you please respond to this letter to let me know what the hold up is??????” Dearman wrote. He added that the prolonged process was taking a toll on both him and his family. The 2016 killings shocked the local community. Dearman, reportedly under the influence of drugs at the time, used an ax to murder the victims while they slept. After the massacre, he forced Lester and a 3-month-old child, who was unharmed, into a car and drove to his father's house in Mississippi, where he later surrendered to authorities. The victims of the massacre were identified as Joseph Adam Turner, 26; Robert Lee Brown, 26; Chelsea Marie Reed, 22; Justin Kaleb Reed, 23; and Shannon Melissa Randall, 35. Chelsea Reed was pregnant with her first child, and the 3-month-old boy was the first son of Turner and Randall. Dearman was sentenced to death in 2018 and has been on death row since. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey recently signed a bill barring the allocation of state funds towards diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across various public entities such as state agencies and higher education institutions. In a statement, Ivey expressed staunch opposition to the utilization of taxpayer resources to promote what she perceives as a liberal political agenda under the guise of DEI. The move drew swift criticism from civil rights and advocacy organizations, contending that such measures encroach upon freedom of speech. DEI, as defined by practitioners in the field, encompasses efforts to rectify disparities within organizations and provides anti-bias training. NAACP President Derrick Johnson said in a statement, "Today, the Alabama government has failed our children." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's Friday, November 11th, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Muslim terrorists kill 3 in Congo, Africa In the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa, the Muslim Allied Democratic Forces killed three people, including a one-month-old baby, in the early morning of November 9th, reports International Christian Concern. The Islamic terrorists looted and burned a hospital in the city of Kabasha along with several other shops and lit several vehicles on fire. One resident said, “We were woken up in the middle of the night by gunshots in the air and people screaming. We did not hesitate. We left the house and hid in the bushes, hoping they would not find us. The attack lasted almost an hour as the rebels ransacked shops and the health center and set them on fire. They also burnt down vehicles.” According to Open Doors, Congo is the 40th most dangerous country for Christians in the world. 2 Timothy 3:12 says, “All who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” Pro-life, Republican Governors won re-election bids Some key Republican governors doubled down on their pro-life values and saw success at the polls on Tuesday, reports The Washington Stand. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds each championed life from six weeks on by signing a heartbeat bill. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law protections for unborn life after 15 weeks. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signed HB 4327 this year, protecting life from conception. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed off on her state's Human Life Protection Act. New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu and Idaho Governor Brad Little signed into law protections for life after the unborn baby's viability at 24 weeks. Each one of those nine Republican governors, who signed key pro-life bills into law, won handily on Tuesday. Kari Lake, GOP candidate for Arizona Governor, is 100% confident Appearing on the Glenn Beck radio program, Kari Lake, the Republican candidate for Arizona Governor, said the Leftists are trying to control the narrative by counting the votes painfully slowly. LAKE: “I think what we've learned in the past several election cycles is that our election officials can control the narrative. It's real easy, by the amount of votes they release. That's what we have going on here. It's been politicized.” Lake said she was 100% confident that she will win the election when they finally count all the votes. LAKE: “We are going to win. I'm 100% confident in that! I'm looking right now at the latest numbers I got. There are 622,000 votes left to be counted here in Arizona, and they're slow rolling to count more than 24 hours past the election. Yesterday, they only counted just over 60,000 votes.” BECK: “How is that possible?” LAKE: “This is outrageous! They're doing this intentionally, in my opinion. They're not speeding this up as they should. And let me just tell you why we're going to win. “There are 384,414 Election Day mail-in ballot drop-offs. Now, these are the people who don't trust bringing it down and putting it in one of those drop boxes. These are the people who don't necessarily trust even the Postal Service with their mail-in ballot. They walked it into a polling place on Election Day.” BECK: “Wow!” LAKE: “We already know those are going to trend heavily toward us, two to one, maybe even three to one. There's a huge majority left to be counted there. “We also have 17,000 ‘Drawer Three.' Those were the ones who when they showed up at their polling place on Election Day, ‘Oh wow! The machines aren't working. Just put your ballot over here in Draw Number Three.' And we have a provisional ballots -- 16,000. These are ballots, the vast majority that are to be counted, that are going to go heavily to us. BECK: “Right.” LAKE: “And we know we're going to win this. They're trying to delay the inevitable. They wanted to write the obituary of the America First movement on election night.” Proof Democrats cheated in Pennsylvania It would appear, based on undercover footage captured by Project Veritas, that Democratic operatives were illegally electioneering in Pennsylvania, reports The Blaze. James O'Keefe, the founder, said this. O'KEEFE: “Project Veritas Action journalists were told who to vote for just mere feet outside a polling center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania today. This is referred to as electioneering.” The Philadelphia County election board states that no one is allowed to influence the vote within 10 feet to the entrance of a polling room where voting machines are located. O'KEEFE: “Not only are Democratic candidates' campaign materials posted at the door where the voting machines are located, watch as our undercover journalists are handed instructions on exactly how to vote within arm's reach of the door.” UNDERCOVER REPORTER: “So, you're telling me I should vote John Fetterman. I should vote Joshua Shapiro.” DEMOCRATIC OPERATIVE: “If you vote Democrat, all of them are the Democratics.” When the undercover Project Veritas reporter asked why he should vote a straight Democrat Party ticket, this is what the Democratic operative said within feet of the polling door illegally. DEMOCRATIC OPERATIVE: “These are more or less liberals who can help with the poor guy.” And he described Republicans, including Mehmet Oz, this way. DEMOCRATIC OPERATIVE: “I would say these are generally people trying to save their money.” Fetterman emerged with 50.3 percent of the vote, defeating Oz by three percentage points. It's difficult to know how much of this illegal electioneering swayed voters on the fence. Proverbs 11:1 says, “The LORD detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with Him.” Zuckerberg fired 13% of Facebook staff And finally, hours after Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced it was laying off 13% of its staff, CEO Mark Zuckerberg addressed employees virtually on Wednesday around 1:00pm Eastern, reports CNBC. A Meta employee, who was fired, provided this video to NBC News. ZUCKERBERG: “I take full responsibility for this decision. I'm the founder and CEO. I'm responsible for the health of our company, for our direction, and for deciding how we execute that, including things like this. This was ultimately my call. One of the hardest calls that I've had to make in the 18 years of running the company.” Shares of Meta plunged 24.5% on October 27th as investors and analysts digested the company's third-quarter earnings miss and a weak fourth-quarter outlook. Shares closed at $97.94, the lowest price since 2016. By contrast, on September 7, 2021, Meta's stock price hit $382. Trigger warning… This episode touches on upsetting topics for trans people and allies. Today, we address some of America's most comprehensive anti-trans laws ever approved. The entire package of anti-LGBTQ+ laws was signed on April 8th, 2022, by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey and it directly attacks transgender youth, their families, and their medical providers. Amidst the pain and fear these laws are causing, we take a moment to analyze the real reasons politicians are proposing criminalizing parents and professionals for providing necessary gender-affirming care for transgender youth. We debunk the myths and lies that are being spread to promote these anti-trans bills. For example, puberty blockers are a completely safe, proven method to buy some extra time for kids to figure out their gender, with no irreversible effects. And no one is performing surgeries on trans kids or grooming them to be LGBTQ+. These things simply aren't happening. Anti-trans legislation, which goes against all medical advice and peer-reviewed, evidence-based best practices for transgender care, causes great harm. It protects absolutely no one, though its proponents falsely claim that it's “protecting children” because they hope to win over ultra-conservative, right wing voters. These politicians know nothing about trans people's experiences, they're just playing a political game that will cost innocent lives and tear families apart. As the number of anti-trans bills has been rapidly increasing, calls to The Trevor Project suicide hotline have increased by 150%, which is no coincidence. We urge advocates and allies of trans people to speak up, get involved, send emails, and make phone calls. Ultimately, the transgender community only asks for one thing: to be left alone and given the same rights that cisgender people have. In This Episode, You Will Learn:Some details of the harrowing law recently approved (2:37)The alarming increase of calls to suicide hotlines is an immediate effect of the attacks on the transgender community (6:39)The real reasons why politicians stand behind these discriminatory and cruel agendas (14:01)The truth about puberty blockers and gender confirmation surgeries (18:35)The best ways to support and help the transgender community (25:28)How attacking things like abortion rights and trans rights is used to distract the population from the real issues. Kay on Thursday extended the state's mask requirement until April 9, at which point she'll let it lapse and leave the decision up to individuals. The Republican state leader's announcement came two days after the governors of Texas and Mississippi said they would be dispensing with mask mandates and allowing businesses to operate at full capacity. When I recorded this episode, it was the second day that Shades Cahaba and other schools around the state had been shut down due to the state of emergency declared by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. Coronavirus COVID-19 has been quickly spreading around the world and is now in our community. To help slow the spread of the coronavirus we have been asked to actively participate in social distancing. Staying at home, not visiting with other people or being in large crowds. The idea being that if we avoid public spaces and generally limit our movement, the virus will be slowed and our healthcare system will be able to better handle the situation. I was working on another episode when I remembered a conversation that Sheryl Summe and I had when I interviewed her in episode 12. This is not the first time that Homewood, and the rest of the nation, has participated in social distancing. During the hot summer months of the 1930s and 40s, infantile paralysis struck thousands of children each year nationwide. Three different highly contagious polioviruses began with cold or flu-like symptoms and could permanently paralyze or kill infected children. The disease hit its peak in the U.S. in 1952. It was at its worst in Jefferson county during the 1930s and hit epidemic proportions in 1936. As a parent, I can only imagine how terrified parents were that their children would be crippled by the disease or worse, die from it. Parents would do their own version of social distancing. Not letting their children play with others or the lucky ones would be left at rural camps such as Camp Winnataska for the summer. But children are ingenious and have their own priorities. Here is my conversation with Sheryl where we talk about it.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=AHZ7BBDRTVMCW&source=url)
On Wednesday, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey joined Zac Blackerby and Brett Smith to discuss Alabama's economic development.
This week we turn our focus to the serious topic of reparations. Should the African American community receive them or is it too late? Next we discuss the case of Marshae Jones, the Alabama woman who was shot while pregnant during an altercation. Under pressure from abortion rights groups she was charged for the murder of her unborn child. Crazy, right? But, not crazier than the turn we take next about Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. Would she support banning abortion if she was younger and her vagina was not as dry as her face? We round the hour out with discussing which genre of music is more accepting: country or hip hop? We also discuss ways that we maintain our own mental health and our experiences with therapists. And, lastly we wrap up the show with a nostalgic discussion about video games and game consoles. Thanks for listening to another episode and we hope you keep listening for not only the next 20 but the next 200 and beyond! And, follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has signed a bill that would require people convicted of certain sex offenses to undergo “chemical castration” as a condition of parole, a requirement meant to keep them from committing similar crimes. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed into law the strongest pro-life bill in the country, making almost all abortions illegal in the Yellowhammer state. The Alabama Human Life Protection Act (HB 314) bans abortion for any reason other than to “avert (a mother’s) death or to avert serious risk of substantial physical impairment of a major bodily function.” Performing an abortion would become a Class C felony, punishing abortionists with up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000. Unlike legislation introduced in Texas, this bill would not hold the woman criminally culpable or civilly liable for committing the abortion. National Right to Life says, "It goes too far." The "All or nothing" crowd says "It doesn't go far enough." Pat Robertson even says the law is too extreme. While, abortion advocates are going crazy over it. During the legislative debate, Democrat state Rep. John Rogers rose to national prominence for defending abortion on the grounds that “some kids are unwanted, so you kill 'em now or kill 'em later.” WATCH THE OUTRAGEOUS FOOTAGE HERE: https://bit.ly/2WGPP5D Mark interviews, Fr. Terry Gensemer, from CEC for Life who has been instrumental in the passage of this bill. Also, mark deals with the issue of whether women who commit abortions ought to be criminalized and send to prison.
