Today we've switching things up. Tommo, Aldas & Haydon pick a bunch of Talking Points from this weekend's United States Grand Prix. From Logan Sargeant being announced at Williams, to F1's apparent obsession with Brad Pitt. Hope you enjoy!
1 - What have you been getting up to? What were your earliest motorsport/F1 memories growing and how did you successful YouTube journey begin? | 2 - This week the Twitter timeline was in a frenzy because in light of the new cost cap financial regulations that were brought in to create a fairer playing field amongst the teams when it comes to spending, two teams have allegedly broke the budget and subsequently have NOT been given a certificate to demonstrate they complied with the regulations. A) What have you made about Toto Wolf's response in relation the sacrifices Mercedes and similar teams have made, in comparison to Christian Horner who's been defensive about the alleged breach. B) How damaging is it for the FIA's reputation that's already been sunk into quicksand, with its failure here to govern and police its own policies. C) If RB are found to be guilty, what should be the penalty for the breach and do you believe this could have leave a further undesired mark on the sport commercially from Liberty Media's perspective |3 - You've made some amazing content on YouTube amassing literally over 32million views in less than 4 years. Some really incredible videos go by the titles: 1. Greatest Rookie Season in F1 History, 2. Is the Ferrari F2012 the Worst Car Ever to Challenge 3. The Downfall of McLaren and so much more. What video are you the most proud of and what video did you find the hardest to research or creatively to put together? | 4 - Taxi, Dinner and Avoid |5 - Direct a Netflix documentary about a Rivalary in F1 |6 - Pick a Hotlap Circuit and Driver |7 - Another spicy piece of news that's arisen ironically from a not so typical Fabrizo Romano is what appears to be confirmation of deal being struck for Pierre Gasly to move from Alpha Tauri to Alpine. A - Is there any truth in rumours that Ocon and Gasly don't get along? B - What effect do you think this will have on a team like Alpine that have made improvements at the front of the midfield? C - In your estimations, where does this now level Daniel Ricciardo and Mick Schumacher? | 8 - Who is the most underrated driver in F1 History and Who would you say is the worst driver in F1 History? | 9 - Max Verstappen could be crowned World Champion in Suzuka at their pseudo engine manufacture Hondas back garden. People have already been quick to try and liken Max's number of race wins to the dominance of Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. But in terms of this years challenge, where do you rate this championship year for Max? Do the allegations of him a) not having a consistently competitive teammate, b) having an inconsistent challenge from his championship rivals, c) the allegations of the illegal flexi floor and d) now the breach of cost cap regulations taint the impact of max winning this championship. | 10 - If you could go back to any year of your choice and be an exclusive content creator with a team and driver in their championship winning year… E.g. Michael Schumacher 2004 at Ferrari. Which championship year and team/ would you pick? | SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND JOIN THE CONVERSATION BY FOLLOWING US ON TWITTER AT @StripTheDip @Aldas001
The excellent Aldas described the Singapore GP as "boringly dramatic" and it sort of hit the nail on the head. The race had mad peaks and stagnant troughs. Good and bad. Madness.Lots of impressiveness and lots of the opposite from drivers up and down the grid. Here is Nigel and Freddie's reaction to F1's return to Singapore. Longevity annuities can be a useful tool in retirement planning. In line with this, the 2019 federal budget allowed for the purchase of advanced life deferred annuities (ALDAs). A recently completed CIA research paper takes a closer look at longevity annuities and how they fit in with Canada’s tax rules and retirement system. In this episode, we speak to Rui Zhou, ACIA, one of the paper’s authors to learn more about their research findings. Read the paper: https://www.cia-ica.ca/publications/publication-details/rp220135

Today, we get into a masterclass on retirement planning with a true expert in the field whose perspectives are distinctly evidence-based, Fred Vettese. Fred is a Partner and former Actuary at Morneau Shepell and author of three retirement books including Retirement Income For Life. We hear Fred’s thoughts on what people should be spending in retirement, why there is not a retirement crisis in Canada, and how Canadians can live on far less than they have been told. Fred talks about how to prepare for a bad investment outcome, as well as the problem of underspending early on and ending up with too many assets. He is a big proponent of people deferring their CPP until after 70 and buying an annuity with a portion of their money in most cases. Our guest weighs in on annuities, talking about how to buy them, which types to buy, and why ALDAs exacerbate the problem of early underspending. We query Fred about when people should start their CPP and OAS government benefits, and then move to hear his thoughts about different bear markets, how to invest during them, and what the current massive government interventions mean for the future of taxpayers. Fred gets into the risk of getting a retirement age date wrong, why he doesn’t endorse the 4% spending rule, and how retirement planning is affected by owning versus renting a home next. He also makes a case for when reverse mortgages are a good option, why long-term care insurance makes no sense, and why interest rates are so low right now. Wrapping up, we hear Fred’s thoughts on what this all means for early retirees, people still in the workforce, and those just entering it. Tune in for Fred’s brilliant perspectives on all this and a lot more in what should be an evergreen resource for any Canadian looking for solid retirement instructions.
