It happened! The phrase 'Hurricane Hurricane Buckley' was uttered and we have a guest on the show, Amanda Buckley! We are also gifted with a new theme song from THE Robbie Ellis can this episode be any more special, it turns out, yes... An appearance by Werner Herzog who comes out of hibernation and we (Karl) cross all sorts of lines in this festival of hypotheticals, it's all in the name of the giggles and no one was hurt during the podcast, we checked, we promise. This week on Yes But Why, I talk to Maximilian Hansen, improv performer and teacher from Uppsala, Sweden. Maximilian Hansen is the founder and artistic director of Mind Melt. He has performed and taught improv in, among others: England, Ghana, India, Ireland, Kenya, Slovenia, Germany and the United States. Max is a curious and physical improv performer. As a teacher/coach, he creates a positive atmosphere that encourages the participants to push their limits while having a good time. Max's company, Mind Melt is an improv community based out of Uppsala, Sweden that provides in person and online workshops and ImproJams to participants from Sweden, France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Australia and more! Tasked with assignments from assisting the National Heritage Board to representing improvisational theater at TEDx, Mind Melt has been excited to spread improv to beginners and advanced students alike! Outside of Mind Melt, Max has previously developed course curricula for other improv groups; and he has been involved in starting an international improvisation theater festival. Max is also a member of Ohana, a European project that brings together 50 of Europe's improvisers to exchange experiences and discuss the world of improvisational theater. In our conversation, Max and I get philosophical right away. We discuss the fact that both of us have very bad memories and we muse on how that affects us as storytellers and improvisers. We talk about making the decision to be an artist over and over, redoubling our efforts when opportunities slip away. Max tells me about his trip to Philadelphia in 2014 and how that led him to the discovery of improv festivals and the larger international improv scene. Max tells me about the vibrant artistic community in Uppsala and all the great performers working there right now. We chat about Mind Melt and how their classes add to the current landscape of improv in Uppsala. We discuss Max's efforts to build community during the pandemic. Support Maximilian Hansen by taking online courses with Mind Melt! And by keeping an eye out for any Mind Met online jams! Also, you should definitely invite him to your international improv festivals as soon as they start happening again! **Special thanks to contributors of the new intro: Amanda Buckley, Ivy Meehan, Laxmi Priya, Gael Doorneweerd Perry, Laura Doorneweerd Perry, Ivy Le, Vishok Verma, Jess Napthine-Hodgkinson, and Neil Curran. ** Yes But Why Podcast is a proud member of the HC Universal Network family of podcasts. This week on Yes But Why Podcast, I am delighted to present my conversation with Australian improviser, Amanda Buckley. Amanda Buckley is an actor, improviser, voice over artist and teacher. She has been performing for over 20 years for theatre, corporate and festival audiences both in Australia and overseas. Amanda most recently has appeared in a series of sketches for Channel 10's The Project and will next appear in the upcoming miniseries Fires, for ABC TV. Amanda has trained, performed, and taught in Australia with Impro Australia, Impro Melbourne, Improv Theatre Sydney, The Big Hoo Haa Melbourne, Impromptunes and Spark! Alongside Jamie Burgess, she created the Musical Improvisation Intensive Workshop – The Musical Toolkit, which they have led across Australia and New Zealand. In our conversation, we talk about the ups and downs of being loud and delightful. We chuckle about both being loud, brash, and obsessed with theater. Amanda tells me about the draw of the theater and how she started taking serious acting classes while still in high school. Amanda shares her improv beginnings at Impro Australia. We talk about how she got into teaching improv and the joy it brings. Amanda tells me how she met her husband at an improv festival!! And we talk about how we were both at the Del Close Marathon in NYC in 2010 and how sad we are that we didn't cross paths then! Amanda is a flexible and adaptable performer. We talk about the voiceover and content creation work that has helped fill her time since the covid shutdowns. Amanda also chats about the sketch show that she has been working on that hopefully they'll be able to debut sometime in the new year!! Support Amanda by keeping an eye out for classes at Impro Melbourne, where she currently teaches. As soon as she can, Amanda wants to be teaching in person classes again! Also, check out the sketches she's acting in for Channel 10's The Project! Yes But Why Podcast is a proud member of the HC Universal Network family of podcasts. When 18-year-old Amanda Buckley was brutally murdered it shed light on a broken system that completely failed her. For show notes go to www.theywillkill.com.
Fran E'silva is such a friend of LeaderShip of Fools. It is wonderful to check in with her in 2020. Amanda Buckley the perfect person to do so. Fran showcases that she has been asking questions since 1991. And that curiosity has made such a difference in her life and in her career. Fran makes a special shout out to celebrate and recognise the kind and empathic leaders. She acknowledges that we tend to put too much emphasis on toxic leadership. She shares habits she has discovered from her Mum and other role models. And 2020 has been a significant personal year for Fran. And meet Donatello her puppy. Fran is always making the most of life. thepeoplespot.com/getinvolved
It is the host's turn to share what 2020 has meant. This episode showcases The People Spot's own Amanda Buckley in conversation with Colin Beattie. This conversation makes us smile so much. Please please please take a listen - it is one of our favourites. Oh...and please get involved with thepeoplespot.com/getinvolved

You will also hear more about Wesa political aspirations and what it takes to change the system. Wonderful conversation. thepeoplespot.com

It is a good one. And please find us at thepeoplespot.com
thepeoplespot.com/getinvolved Sharyn Morton and Amanda Buckley examine WFH life in 2020. Life with Boxes gets philosophical very quickly. Yet the truth is - it is a very human take on how 2020 is changing work life, leadership, perspective, empathy and being together alone. Sharyn and Amanda emphasise how critical it is that we find our own voice - but even more importantly - how we help others to find their voice.
Amanda Buckley catches up with Christine Yeung to discuss 2020. Christine shares real insight into what it takes to lead a social cause. The next level of leadership required to represent the voice of many. She also reflects on how she now empathises the leaders she felt frustrated with. This is fascinating and thoughtful conversation. Find Christine at beyondstory.com.au And find our new home at thepeoplespot.com
We celebrate our 300th episode with an audience watching via ZOOM, and of course, without warning, Jason's mic stopped working 5 mins before the show. Amidst the ensuing chaos and inbuilt mic sound quality we made the best of a bad situation and had a great time, with special guest Amanda Buckley too boot. Tune in, celebrate and marvel at just how good 6 years of doing this has made us.
Amanda Buckley and Derek Humphery-Smith check in with 2020. What does it mean for leadership? What is keeping Derek laughing? Amanda and Derek discover a shared passion. This is a lovely conversation. Please subscribe to our new home and get involved thepeoplespot.com/getinvolved
