A Missionary to Our Politicians A special Family Life Interview Steve Amerson and his wife traveled to Washington D.C. as weekly worship services returned to the halls of Congress. Since 2014, he has gone to Capitol Hill twice a month to meet with Senators, Representatives and Congressional staffers. Each time, he brings 200 handwritten notes with Scriptural encouragement and words of hope -- that adds up to 37,000 handwritten notes across ten years. His "The Word on the Hill" Ministries offers signs of spiritual renewal among all who work on Capitol Hill. Democrats, Republicans and Independents all get visits, prayers, and caring attention for the realities of their lives -- amid the loneliness and stress of their government work, and the everyday crises and problems of their personal lives. While the ministry to elected Members of Congress has great value, this interview also includes the story of a young woman who works in a Capitol Hill Bob Price asked Amerson to talk about his evangelistic and pastoral work, and the spiritual state of our Seat of Government. Quincy Amerson, a client of the Wrongful Convictions Clinic at Duke Law, was released from prison on March 13 this year, after spending more than 20 years behind bars. He was convicted of first-degree murder in 2001 and had been sentenced to life without parole. After taking up Amerson's case, the clinic presented exculpatory evidence that led to the state dismissing the case. A Superior Court judge found that Amerson was denied a fair trial due and exonerated him of the crime.

"We experience discontentment. It's the grind of life that is there because we live in a fallen world and that has even affected us from the inside out." Listen as Church at the Mill's Asheton Amerson discusses mental health, its effects within the church, and how the church can provide support.
Our guest today is Steve Amerson, and he walks the halls of Congress and Senate sharing Christ and offering prayers for those in need. And, believe me, in our current times, there is a lot of need! But Steve's heart carries a melody of God's Word, and he shares with our listeners the PURPOSE God has given him in America. And...he will sing us out with a song!
Steve Amerson is known as the vocalist behind some of the most powerful music in movies like "Star Wars: Rogue One," "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Patriot," among many others. But he's also a voice of hope for Democrats and Republicans in Congress — a quiet source of peace and prayer and a minister to leaders on both sides of the aisle. Amerson, author of the new book, "Tales Of A Troubadour," is a faithful Christian who run an intriguing ministry to some of the most powerful men and women in America — and the world. Here is Amerson's incredible story.

LexLab, the legal innovation hub at UC Hastings Law School, recently wrapped up the fourth cohort of its legal tech accelerator program with a demo day at which the seven startup participants got to pitch their products to potential investors. But this demo day, in fact this entire cohort, was noticeably different than prior ones, in that it was the first to take place 100% virtually, without the benefit of having the startups come and work on site in LexLab’s offices on the Hastings campus in San Francisco. In this episode of LawNext, we speak with LexLab’s director, Drew Amerson, and Tiyani Majoko, cofounder of Anü, one of the startups that participated in the program, about the accelerator program and about the good and bad of the experience of conducting it virtually. Dr. Phil Amerson president emeritus of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary joins Dr. Brad Miller and Indiana Bishop Julius Trimble on Episode 34 of The United Methodist People Podcast. Dr. Amerson has spent his career writing, teaching and speaking about racism, institutional leadership, urban community development and the role of congregations in addressing poverty and discrimination. Dr. Amerson speaks about his early faith development as a “cradle” United Methodist attending many revivals growing up. He talks about the definition transformative experience he had in ministering in Harlem and Panama had on his views on justice and poverty. He tells a fascinating story getting to know members of the Ku Klux Klan personally and helping lead them bring a most unique offering into a worship experience. Dr Amerson and Bishop Trimble engaged in an in depth discussion about Black Lives Matter and social justice issues in our country and in the United Methodist Church. A major focus of the conversation was around taking time to listen to others before taking action. Indeed, Dr Amerson cited his research which showed that the worst way to address racial bigotry is to preach a sermon about it. The emphasis is how we don’t know each other. We have to listen to understand the depth of the problem and then act. Dr. Amerson and Bishop Trimble pointed to signs of hope in the United Methodist Church in the call and the involvement of young clergy and leaders who are speaking a prophetic word to the church and looking to creation out of chaos. Dr. Terrie Young, Amanda Amerson, and Margaret Higginbotham discuss IEP's and the IEP process with me on Teaching Learning Leading K12. Recently, I had a request from a listener to spend some time on this topic, so I want to say thank you for reaching out and here is a general discussion about IEPs and the IEP process. Dr. Terrie Young is the Director of East Central Georgia Learning Resources System where she provides technical assistance and training on special education related topics to administrators, teachers, and support staff for the ten school districts in the Heart of Georgia RESA Region. Amanda Amerson is a Program Specialist with East Central GLRS, where she provides professional learning on special education related topics to administrators, teachers and support staff for the ten school districts in the Heart of Georgia RESA Region. Margaret Higginbotham is a fourth-year special education teacher at Montgomery County Elementary School. She has been teaching the Preschool Intervention Program since July 2015. She was awarded the 2016 Special Education Teacher of the Year during her first year at Montgomery County Elementary School by her peers and the 2020 Montgomery County Elementary School Teacher of the Year as well as the 2020 Montgomery County District Teacher of the Year. Margaret credits her success in the classroom from her knowledge of raising multiple children with significant disabilities as well as her leadership roles both locally and statewide. As the mother and educator of multiple children with disabilities, Margaret’s expectations are high for all of her students. It was a pleasure talking with Terrie, Amanda, and Margaret. As we discussed IEPs it became evident that we would need to come back together for a future second part to this talk. So look for that to happen sometime in the near future. By the way, have an idea for a show? Let me know, I will be happy to see what I can do to cover the topics you want to hear. You can email me at stevenmiletto@gmail.com Thanks for listening. Join us on Thursday at the Medtech Conference in Minneapolis to hear from Congressman Erik Paulsen. A longtime proponent of the Medtech industry, Rep. Paulsen most recently co-authored a letter asking the Trump administration to remove medical technology products from a list of Chinese imports subject to protective tariffs. The five-term Congressman also has fought against the Medical Device Tax. The Medtech Conference co-chairs and advisory board also are pleased to honor Dave Amerson, CEO of NeoTract, as the recipient of this year’s Dealmaker of the Year Award. The award recognizes Amerson's leadership of the urology start-up as it established its UroLift System as a critical treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia. Sales of UroLift were surging when Teleflex agreed to acquire the company, paying $725 million up front with the promise of another $375 million in milestone payments over the next two years. In an interview, Justin Klein, general partner of NEA, and Amerson will discuss: The steps Neotract took to adopt a winning culture? What strategies helped the company secure support from payers, providers? How the deal with Teleflex came to be? What's next for Teleflex in Urology? Join us on May 31st to explore this singular successful story and to better understand our entire Medtech sector.
SEASON 2 EPISODE 2 The Studs discuss the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe from Iron Man to Infinity War. With special guests Raven Amerson and Casey Dinan! Ba-ding! Terrance the intern here! Did you like "ba-ding?" It's my new thing. Still kinda workshopping it. Let me know what you think! Anywho, this episode was awesome. Especially funny. The guests were a delight. I'm just an intern so I didn't get to meet them. But my friend Michaela and I DID find a mouse in the studio while they were recording. You can hear us showing off the mouse at some point during what I believe to be (given the generally melancholy vibe from the room) the Phase 2 discussion. Other than that, pretty cool that Trey is alive again right? His scars are super sexy and they (much like the popular rapper who is mysteriously missing in recent years Rich Home Quan) got me feeling some type of way. Ba-ding! Terrance out.

The Kansas City Chiefs sign CB David Amerson, giving the team another boost at the cornerback position. However, this shortly led to some rumors that Marcus Peters could be traded. Farzin gives his thoughts on the addition of Amerson. Is there any truth to the Peters rumor? What are other insiders saying? Farzin also talks about one Chiefs player who could be another positive story for the NFL, if the league makes an effort to promote it. Also, after a certain post on the Facebook page, Farzin says we should squash the negativity in the already heavily negative world we are living in today.

At Devcon 2013 I've met with Greg Amerson, main Author/Team Lead for the Eclipse-based tooling (Liferay IDE & DevStudio) and David Truong, one of the very early employees of Liferay, Product Manager for Platform an Tooling. The topics we covered were all around Developer Tooling. There's a bit of background noise as we were recording this session in the break area of the conference. We had to limit ourselves to the time when some sessions were on, in order to find the quietest possible environment. For the annual Liferay Retreat, I was in L.A. again and took the opportunity to record several new episodes - this one as a nice fireside chat - the first one with a live audience, though they have not been interacting too much - just been in the same room :) In this session I talked with Greg Amerson, the author of Liferay's development tooling. This is one of the first recordings on new gear, unfortunately levelling was not ideal, so it had to significantly be amplified and denoised - bringing some drawbacks in audio quality, mainly noise despite the denoising, but you'll be able to stand it - promised. Also, I hoped to get this out before the holiday season, unfortunately this didn't work out that well for various reasons - Sorry for that, you'll get your late christmas wishes in this episode. Among other topics we talked about: * Greg got his exposure to Eclipse Tooling from being one of the first people to work on the MyEclipse product * The distincion between Liferay IDE (for Liferay CE) and Liferay Developer Studio (for Liferay EE) * The impressive size of the team to have worked on Liferay Tooling until now and from now on. * Greg's current location: Working from the China Office and how he got from Texas to China and the future plans. * The story how Greg found Liferay (you have to hear this - you might even learn your first words in Mandarin) * The difference the IDE support made in Developer Training - and what ideas he and the team have in addition of the current features (please provide feedback on what you expect from developer tooling) * Some of the ideas: Maven, personal templates, Marketplace, remote deployment and debugging * A vision for the stability of Liferay's plugin environment You'll find this episode - and make sure that you don't miss any of the future episodes - by subscribing to http://feeds.feedburner.com/RadioLiferay with your favourite podcatcher. You can also subscribe on itunes.: Just search for "Radio Liferay" or just "Liferay" in the podcast directory. Find Greg as @greg_amerson, me as @olafk or my Alter Ego for just this program as @RadioLiferay on twitter. Something else... Radio Liferay now has its own landing page at www.liferay.com/radio. So if you want to recommend this podcast to somebody, this is where you should point them to. Also, I'd like to get more of your feedback: Do you feel this is valuable? Whereever you get the podcast - if there's an opportunity to rate it please do so - e.g. itunes currently does not have enough votes to display an average . Also, please provide feedback to the episodes so that I can balance the next topics and adjust them a bit more to your interest. You can do that on my blog or on twitter. I do have a long list of community contributors that I'll contact in the next weeks to prepare some more recordings and mix them with the Liferay Employees as this whole program is not purely about the company people. Feel free to suggest more interviewees and topics though. Thank you!
