POPULARITY
The fastest way to time-travel through car culture is to flip through old ads and we do exactly that, one glossy page at a time. We react to vintage magazine car advertisements packed with chrome, bold taglines, and illustrated renderings that feel closer to concept art than photography. Along the way, we ask a simple question with a complicated answer: why did car marketing used to feel so direct, and why does it feel so scattered now? From there, we chase the nostalgia into newsprint. We talk about the era of full-page dealership newspaper ads, the ones that listed rows of cars with prices you could circle, plus weekend service specials like oil changes and tires. It's a practical look at how inventory, consumer laws, and modern buying habits pushed that whole experience online, and what we miss when the entire local market no longer fits on one page. Then we point the car toward Houston with a set of driving destinations built for date night: a tucked-away speakeasy-style cocktail lounge, a neon-soaked quirky spot with pizza, a historic wine bar with haunted reputation, an outdoor beer garden, and a small retro neighborhood bar. We close with a real-world 2026 Subaru Outback review, covering trims, standard AWD, CVT behavior, fuel economy, and why the return of physical buttons matters for everyday driving.

When classic car lovers gather, stories flow as freely as chrome gleams in the Texas sun. From the Lone Star Street Rod Association's 50th Anniversary celebration in Granbury, we discover the human connections behind these metal masterpieces.Meet Danon Hollinger, who grew up with hot rod magazine fold-outs on her bedroom headboard instead of pop stars. Her gorgeous white 1978 Pontiac Trans Am represents a lifelong dream fulfilled. After years of waiting, she found this beauty through a car club connection – a vehicle with its own poignant history, having been restored for a son who suffered an accident and could no longer drive it. Originally purchased on eBay while searching for something completely different, Larry explains how station wagons have transformed from demolition derby fodder to highly sought-after collectibles. His ingenious restoration touches include chromed freeze plugs repurposed as decorative "gun sights" on the fenders, demonstrating the creativity that defines true car enthusiasts.Beyond the vehicles themselves, we explore what makes Granbury worth the drive – from the historic Acton State Historical Site where Davy Crockett's wife Elizabeth is buried to the nostalgic Brazos Drive-In Theater operating since 1952. Authorities in Lebanon are warning of a humanitarian crisis - as more people were killed by Israeli airstrikes into the country. Lebanon's caretaker prime minister has appealed for a diplomatic solution to the crisis, but Israel is signaling that it will continue to hit militant group Hezbollah -- hard. Also: In Europe, another far-right party has claimed victory in an election - Austria's Freedom Party has won the highest percentage of votes. But they don't have a majority - and will need support from other parties to form a coalition. Plus: Several classic car enthusiasts have been left with an empty space in their garages. They bought their dream vintage cars fair and square, but then the police showed up to repossess them, saying the seller had stolen them.
The prized collection including Model T Fords, Cadillacs, and Buicks was owned by a late wood buyer and gore resident Robin Dickson and is being sold on behalf of his widow. Some of the cars date back to the 1910's and were collected over a life time and tucked away in the shed, where Robin tinkered away on them. Dickson family friend, Paul Herron has been helping organise the auction at Waimumu and spoke to Lisa Owen.
Retiring from the family insurance business in 2017 after 30 years, Mike Tedford decided to pursue a second career in photography; a hobby he enjoyed during his high school years. His photography business was a side-hustle that he was able to grow and develop after retiring from his full time job. To set himself apart in the photography space, he purchased a vintage car to use as a prop; this move turned out to grow as a unique offering in his business. It wasn't until he retired from the insurance industry, that he decided to deepen his knowledge of photography and vintage car maintenance and enrolled in the photography program at Oklahoma State University, earning a degree in photography in 2019. Throughout his education, he gained expertise in various genres of photography, including portrait, landscape, and event photography. His vintage car driving service includes classic automobiles from the 1930's to 1960's, and provides transportation for weddings, as well as serving as props in photo shoots. During this visit, Mike shares more about his background, how his second career is going as well as offering some tips to consider when taking headshots.
