Happy New Year, from the "Days of Roar" podcast! In the first episode of 2025, Evan and Mark break down the Detroit Tigers signing Gleyber Torres to a one-year, $15 million contract, including his on-field performance, his $500,000 assignment bonus, and his goal of getting more than $100 million in free agency next offseason. After signing Torres, the Tigers still need another right-handed hitter to balance the lineup. Where do things stand with Alex Bregman? The Tigers have strong interest in signing Bregman to play third base, and Bregman has interest in the Tigers, but there remains a gap in value with 41 days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training. After the break, Pete Caldera, the Yankees beat writer for The Bergen Record, joins the show to share everything there is to know about Torres, who spent his entire seven-year MLB career with the Yankees. After that, Evan and Mark discuss Colt Keith's move from second base to first base, as well as what that means for first baseman Spencer Torkelson. Follow Evan on X/Twitter here. In this episode of the Impostor Syndrome Files, we talk about the power of storytelling to create greater connection and inclusion. But sharing our stories can be challenging, especially if we belong to marginalized groups. How do we stay true to what's important to us when society tells us we're not good enough? My guest this week, Mark Travis Rivera, is a Latinx, queer, disabled, gender non-conforming professional storyteller. Here he shares his own personal journey of using the power of stories to connect and fulfill his calling. We also talk about how we can all use vulnerability to empower ourselves and those around us. Two murders, weeks apart. Teen cheerleader Amie Hoffman vanished after leaving her part-time job. Two days later, her body is found floating in a retention tank at a local reservoir. Hoffman has been sex assaulted and stabbed repeatedly. Twelve days later 25-year-old Deirdre O'Brien, 25, bangs on a truck driver's door at a desolate rest stop pleading for help. She also has been stabbed. Before O'Brien dies, she describes her attacker as tall and slender with bushy hair and some facial hair. No arrest is immediately made, but the next year, 1983, a break in the case surfaces. James Koedatich calls police, describing his escape from an attacker, who stabbed him. As emergency responders take Koedatich out on a stretcher, a responding officer sees a car that matches descriptions of a vehicle spotted at the mall the night of Hoffman's disappearance and at the rest stop where O'Brien is attacked. The next day, Koedatich is named a suspect in the cases.
