Police officers who 'brought shame on their uniforms' and let Emma Caldwell's killer Iain Packer walk free for 19 years should be jailed if it is found they 'engaged in criminality', her family's lawyer says. Packer, 51, was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 36 years at the High Court in Glasgow this month after being found guilty of murdering the 27-year-old in 2005, as well as 11 rapes and 21 other charges, including sexual assaults, against other women. Yet 'one of the UK's worst sex offenders' was left to roam the streets for nearly two decades despite officers being repeatedly told Packer 'is the man' and the warped killed taking officers in 2007 to the spot where Emma's body was dumped.
AP Washington correspondent Sagar Meghani reports the military is seeing stark reversals as it deals with sex crimes across the force.
“Roman crucifixions sought to degrade and dehumanise their victims in ways that destroyed their dignity and stigmatised their memory. Paul speaks of the cross as a ‘scandal' or ‘stumbling block', but the significance of this language has never been explored in terms of sexual violence. The Crucifixion of Jesus examines crucifixion as a form of torture, state terror, and sexual abuse. It reads recent accounts of torture alongside the presentation of crucifixion in the Passion narratives and other Greek and Roman sources. Outlining compelling reasons for viewing Jesus as a victim of sexual abuse, it examines why this unsettling aspect of the narrative has remained ‘hidden in plain sight' for so long, and what place it might have in discussions of rape culture past and present. It also asks whether other acts of sexual violence and rape might have happened during the mockery in the praetorium, or even on the cross itself. It argues that although the acknowledgement of this ‘unspeakable violence' is deeply disturbing, breaking the silence can nonetheless have constructive consequences. In addition to offering a more historical understanding of crucifixion, this book illuminates positive new aspects of resurrection, making it a probing read for scholars of biblical studies and for those interested in the interplay of religion and violence.” -https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/oa-mono/10.4324/9780429289750/crucifixion-jesus-david-tombs. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support

Developments in the Bryan Kohberger murder trial have been moving through an Idaho court room. The dense motion calling for the Grand Jury indictment against the accused killer was denied by a judge. Cameras will be allowed inside the courtroom, and FBI Agents have entered the King Road home again, hoping to gain more information as the prosecution prepares for trial. A 3D model of the home is being built. Experts say this will help explain to the jury where evidence was found and why the placement of that evidence is important. Latah County District Judge John Judge has also ordered the prosecution to provide more DNA information that has been requested by Kohberger's defense team, setting a December 1st deadline. Harford County Sheriff Jeffery Gahler tells Nancy Grace that not only was DNA pulled from the Morin crime scene, but that DNA linked to an assault across the country. Show Notes: Women don't scream or fight back during sexual assaults and rapes due to protective brain responses and cultural conditioning. In this podcast, listen to the recent story of how World Cup soccer player Jenni Hermoso was forcibly kissed by soccer federation president Luis Rubiales and how this experience mirrors so many other times when girls and women have had their boundaries crossed. Learn the sobering statistics of how few rape cases are reported, prosecuted, and convicted and why this is so. Understand how the brain changes how it is encoding memories during sexual assaults which creates gaps in women's memories of the assault. Learn how quickly stress hormones are released by the brain during assaults and how these impair the prefrontal cortex and its ability to reason. Learn the brain and evolutionary reasons why women respond to terror and assaults by primitive brain responses such as freezing, tonic immobility, and dissociation. if the fear circuitry perceives escape as impossible and resistance as futile, then not fight or flight, but extreme survival reflexes (which scientists call “animal defense responses”) will take over to try to protect women. Women's body's are literally paralyzed by fear, thus making them unable to move, run, speak, or cry out. Women don't cry out because Broca's area of the brain, our speech center, shuts down as a way to not draw attention to them; thus, women are literally scared speechless. Dr. Jordan shares ways we need to approach girls and women who have been sexually assaulted or raped to make them feel safe, heard, understood, and supported. This will require education police officers, any first responders, ER staff, doctors and nurses, teachers, and parents. Two murders, weeks apart. Teen cheerleader Amie Hoffman vanished after leaving her part-time job. Two days later, her body is found floating in a retention tank at a local reservoir. Hoffman has been sex assaulted and stabbed repeatedly. Twelve days later 25-year-old Deirdre O'Brien, 25, bangs on a truck driver's door at a desolate rest stop pleading for help. She also has been stabbed. Before O'Brien dies, she describes her attacker as tall and slender with bushy hair and some facial hair. No arrest is immediately made, but the next year, 1983, a break in the case surfaces. James Koedatich calls police, describing his escape from an attacker, who stabbed him. As emergency responders take Koedatich out on a stretcher, a responding officer sees a car that matches descriptions of a vehicle spotted at the mall the night of Hoffman's disappearance and at the rest stop where O'Brien is attacked. The next day, Koedatich is named a suspect in the cases. LSU student Madison Brooks is killed after being hit by a car. Brooks was standing in the road at the time, but why? Police say Brooks left a Tigerland bar with four men. Two of the men, then allegedly rape the very inebriated 19-year-old. When Brooks cannot give the men her address, she is dropped off around 3 a.m. in a random neighborhood. That is when Brooks is hit by the car. That driver showed no signs or evidence of being impaired. The four men who left with Brooks have been arrested. They claim the sex was consensual, but hospital staff says Brooks' blood alcohol level was nearly 4 times the legal limit. Kaivon Washington, 18, and an unidentified 17-year-old minor are charged with third-degree rape. Everette Lee, 28, and Casen Carver, 18, were charged with principal to third-degree rape, which means they were there when the incident occurred but did not take part in it. Missing 10 Hours VR is an interactive immersive narrative designed to counter the bystander effect by recreating different social dynamics and peer pressure as your virtual friend attempts to spike a woman's drink with a date rape drug GHB and then isolate her by the end of the night. Here's a description of the piece: In this interactive VR piece, the viewer is led on a night out by Greg, a big-headed guy with bad intentions. He spikes 22-year-old Mara's drink with the drug GHB, and she gradually loses control of her actions. A walk through the night ends in a backstreet, where Greg maneuvers Mara into a dark corner. The choices the viewer makes during the evening—go along with Greg, watch passively or intervene—determine the outcome: a safe ending, or arrest and questioning at the police station. -- Missing 10 Hours VR Synopsis
