Welcome back to the Alt Goes Mainstream podcast.Today, we travel to London to talk with someone who has seen the evolution of the European tech ecosystem up close. We discuss the rise of Europe with Isomer Capital's Co-Founder and Managing Partner Joe Schorge. Isomer is a pan-European fund-of-funds, co-investment, and secondaries platform that is on its way to €1B AUM. They've invested in 70 VC funds, including the likes of Seedcamp, Hoxton Ventures, Atlantic Labs, and leading European companies like Sorare, Refurbed, Zenjob, and more.Joe has a fascinating perspective on European's tech ecosystem on a number of dimensions. He's an American who moved to Europe in the late 1990s to work in tech before moving to the allocator and investor side. He worked as an investment consultant at Cambridge Associates, where he advised institutional investors in Europe and MENA on strategy, planning, and implementation that amounted to over $2B of capital across 75 transactions in private markets. He was then a Managing Director at Pomona Capital in Europe, where he focused on secondaries, fund investing, and co-investments, which paved the way for him to found Isomer as one of the early institutional pan-European fund-of-funds based in Europe.Joe and I had a rich conversation about the past, present, and future of the European tech ecosystem. We discussed: Why Europe is a great place to invest right now. Perspectives on how to build a tech ecosystem, given Joe's deep experience and history in Europe. How they uncovered two local funds which invested in one of Europe's biggest tech successes, UiPath. The biggest opportunities in the ecosystem. Why availability of capital is not the issue for the European ecosystem. Why local funds will still win in their respective regions at pre-seed and seed. Why there are different skillsets that both investors and founders need to have to succeed in Europe. What the current market environment means for European venture. Why more institutional investors should be allocating to European venture. Thanks Joe for coming on the Alt Goes Mainstream podcast to share your wisdom and experiences about European venture and thanks to the EUVC team, Andreas Munk Holm and David Cruz e Silva, for the intro to Joe, where they together have a fantastic partnership between Isomer and EUVC.

Over the past few months, news organizations continue to uncover lies and embellishments about Representative George Santos' past, resume, and campaign finances. The Republican Representative of New York's 3rd Congressional District, which covers parts of Long Island and Queens, is now facing several investigations into those lies. The Freshman lawmaker was only sworn in a month ago, and is also facing calls from some lawmakers in his own party to step down. Many of his constituents are calling for his resignation. A recent Newsday/Siena College poll found that 78% of those surveyed in his district want Santos to resign. And on Tuesday, a busload of Santos's constituents rode down to D.C., protested on Capitol Hill, and handed his staff members a petition for his resignation. We look at what repercussions Santos could face in Congress and what rules are in place to prevent other lawmakers from lying to constituents with David Cruz, WNYC's People & Power politics editor.

With consistent cash flow and relatively higher real estate returns, it's no wonder why industrial real estate has earned the attention of many investors. Whether it's a warehouse, factory, or logistics management area, the minimal maintenance that this asset class requires makes it an ideal option for those who want to diversify their portfolio. In today's episode, David Cruz-Palmer, founder and operator of Longyards Storage, relates how he successfully focused on syndicating investments and industrial properties that generate passive income and tax-advantaged returns for equity partners. Key Points From This Episode: How did he become involved in industrial real estate investing? What propelled him to take such a leap after more than a decade in the corporate world? What did he learn from his experience working in a call center? Why is industrial real estate profitable? What are the advantages of industrial property investing? How does he give back to the community?Tweetables: “When I was just starting out, I was what I call the world's worst mortgage broker. I did absolutely zero deals for probably three to four months.”“There's a real shortage of demand for what's called flex-warehouse, or a shortage of supply for these 30-foot tall ceilings because the concept of building it to that size is relatively new.”“You ask about why industrial? It's just because there isn't very much of it.”“Industrial [real estate] seems really strong. There are a lot of macroeconomic forces [and] factors that also point to the fact that industrial might remain strong for years to come.”“More manufacturing is coming back to the US, so there's more storage for products. And that just means that there's going to be more need for industrial space.”“It's a matter of just trying to relate to people and understand their perspective. I feel like that's my best way of trying to make a friend.”“The things that are good from an investor's perspective aren't necessarily good from a bank's perspective.”“But for industrial or for any commercial, there are leases, and they're years long. And the credit of the tenant has a big impact on the quality of the deal.”“If you can get 10 or 20% seller care and only put 10 or 15% down, then that does a lot for your equity multiple, whether you have low rates, or seven, 6.5% rates, which is what I'm seeing today.” Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Corridor Capital PartnersLinkedInDavid Cruz-Palmer's email About David Cruz-Palmer David Cruz-Palmer is a principal at Corridor Capital Partners Storage.

This was an interesting conversation with myself, Niish, Masaki Miyagawa, and David Cruz. We discuss race relations in today's society. We also cover the history which has led to where we are as a country and where we may be headed. We then dive deep into the collective mind of humanity and discuss ways we can unite to defeat the hidden hand that has played both sides for years. This is a thought-provoking conversation that may provide an understanding of your fellow man and woman. This is a chat for the ages!!!
