This week, I am joined by Jake Fogelnest, who at the age of 14 hosted MTV's Squirt TV, and later collaborated with Will Ferrell, Sarah Silverman & Billy Eichner. We take a look at the Bee Gees/Peter Frampton mess-a-thon theatrical feature SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND.We also discuss how Jake turned his childhood cable access show (shot in his bedroom!) into a full-fledged MTV show, getting his hair cut on TV by Kim Gordon, the day Cypress Hill showed up to his bedroom, the difficulties of the MTV show getting cancelled and his struggle with addiction, how the Beatles were less protective of their legacy than we thought, the military aspects of Sgt. Pepper's, how we never noticed the military aspects of Sgt. Pepper's, the legacy of Robert Stigwood's powerhouse career, Grease, Robin Gibb's grandiose delusion that this film's music was going to replace the legacy of The Beatles' original, how this was Steve Martin's film debut, how it felt watching the film as kids, the movie Car Wash, the PG-13 version of Saturday Night Fever, the cult musical film The Apple, the fight scene between Peter Frampton & Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, the incredible Alice Cooper cult leader scene, Sandy Farina as Strawberry Fields, speculating if anyone ever cried watching the film, Xanadu, Billy Preston saving the day, our alternate endings of Sgt. Pepper's, who are all the artists that appeared in the film's big finale, finding peace of mind from just hanging out in a video store and more!So let's run from that wicked Mean Mr. Mustard and his two latex-clad gimb-bots on this week's episode of Revolutions Per Movie! Eigentlich würden wir am 22. Dezember Doppelgeburtstag feiern.

OK, it isn't rock music, but the Soundtrack to "Saturday Night Fever" was a tremendously successful album both commercially and critically, and it had a major impact in popular culture of the later 70's. The theatrical release of the movie actually went back to December of 1977, but it was the winner of the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in February 1979, one of only three soundtrack albums to do so. Composed by the Bee Gees and prominently featuring that band, this soundtrack is the second-best selling of all time behind "The Bodyguard." The Bee Gees actually didn't get involved with the film until it was in post-production. John Travolta was dancing to Stevie Wonder and Boz Scaggs when the scenes were filmed. Columbia Records refused legal clearance for Scaggs material because they were pursuing another disco movie at the time, and the Bee Gees were commissioned to write the songs for the film. The brothers Gibb wrote the songs primarily in a single weekend. The resulting success would change the trajectory of both the Bee Gees and actor John Travolta. The Bee Gees would become a group often compared to the Beatles in the late 70's. Travolta, already well known for his role in the television series "Welcome Back, Kotter," would become an A-list celebrity and a household name.In 2013 the album was added to the National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress for preservation.Lynch is responsible for this travesty, as the other participants do so under protest. Support your local rock band, folks! Night FeverThis song was originally called "Saturday Night," but Robin Gibb was concerned about that name because of the number of songs already bearing the name. "Night Fever" was inspired by Percy Faith's "Theme from 'A Summer Place'", and it spent 8 weeks at the top of the Billboard charts. How Deep Is Your LoveThis pop ballad was released in September of 1977, ahead of the movie. It had hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 by Christmas Day of 1977, remained there for 3 weeks, and spent 17 total weeks in the top 10. Barry Gibb has commented that this is his favorite Bee Gees song. It won Best Pop Performance by a Group at the February 1978 Grammy awards. You Should Be DancingPrior to their involvement with the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack, the Bee Gees first released this track on their album "Children of the World" in 1976. This is the song playing when Travolta takes over the disco dance floor. Jive Talkin'Here is another song that had been previously issued before the soundtrack was released. The lead single from the album "Main Course" was released in May 1975, long before "Saturday Night Fever." The song was originally called "Drive Talking," and the rhythm was inspired by the sound the band's car made crossing the Julia Tuttle Causeway as they traveled to the studio in Miami. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Dancing Queen by ABBAA mockumentary called "ABBA: The Movie" was in the theatres at this time in the U.S. STAFF PICKS:Is She Really Going Out with Him by Joe JacksonWayne gets the staff picks going with a song that asks why good looking women date horrible men. Joe Jackson is often confused with Elvis Costello, another artist releasing albums at the time. This is Jackson's debut single from his debut album, "Look Sharp."The Gambler by Kenny RogersBruce brings us Kenny Roger's signature song. Songwriter Don Schlitz wrote this song in 1976 and it was recorded by several musicians including Johnny Cash before Rogers took it to number 1 on the country charts and number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. The gambler looks through life through the lens of poker, knowing "every hand's a winner, and every hand's a loser," and of course "you've got to know then to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em."Stumblin' In by Chris Norman and Suzi QuatroRob's staff pick is the sole top 40 hit by female rock pioneer Suzi Quatro, and Norman's only hit outside of his previous band, Smokie. This duet made it to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Both singers have a smoky vocal sound.Do You Think I'm Sexy? by Rod StewartLynch notes Stewart's ability to surf the waves of popularity with this staff pick. While Rod Stewart honed his craft in the rock genre, he achieved both popularity and notoriety with his polarizing choice of embracing disco music in the late 70's. Today this song remains one of his most popular tunes. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Pegasus by The Allman Brothers BandThe Allman Brothers were decidedly NOT a disco band in this instrumental jam. In May 1980, Jimmy Ruffin released his seventh and final studio album, 'Sunrise'. This often-overlooked album consisted of compositions by Robin Gibb and Blue Weaver (with contributions from Barry, Maurice and Andy), with the pair also producing the album. 'Sunrise' is a fascinating combination of the distinct Robin Gibb lyrics, Weaver's trademark arrangements and Ruffin's motown style. When Marcy Levy's vocals and 1970s soul sounds are added in, the result is a charming and totally unique album in the Gibb catalogue. Stuart and Cristiano delve into 'Sunrise', as well as some surrounding material from Robin.Hold On To My Love - Gulymix: JIMMY RUFFIN feat. On Episode 227, we are joined by the acclaimed music writer Bob Stanley, the man behind one of Niall's favourite books Yeah Yeah Yeah: The Story of Modern Pop and a member of indie-pop group St. Etienne. To celebrate 10 years of Faber Books are reissuing Yeah Yeah Yeah (with a new chapter taking it up to present day) , along with its prequel Let's Do It: The Birth of Pop (the definitive story of the birth of Pop, from 1900 to the mid-fifties), both on paperback.Along with the books, Bob Stanley also put together a compilation for Ace Records called Latin Freestyle - New York/Miami 1983 - 1992, in his words a crashing electro-funk sub genre of dance music. It was the aural equivalent of a can of thirst-quenching Quatro or a Spanish Harlem dance-off, and it became the electronically constructed bridge between disco and house.Latin Freestyle grew out of electro, and was a more female-fronted classic pop version with frequently Latina vocals, bleepy synth riffs, proto-house piano lines, drum machine hits and lyrics that harked back to '60s girl groups teenage concerns of heartbreak, boys and dancing. We talk to Bob about the books and this subgenre of electro music that developed in New York and Miami in the early 80s and included Madonna, Debbie Deb, Shannon, Alisha, Company B, Lisa Lisa, Exposé, Taylor Dane and went on to influence music from the Bee Gees' Robin Gibb, Pet Shop Boys, Freeez and more.A playlist of Latin Freestyle accompanies this episode on Patron. Seth and Marc get funky with the Bee Gee's stalker anthem Nights On Broadway. Not their biggest hit, but definitely up there with the creepiest. One part waiting in the dark and one part voices-in-his-head, the Brothers Gibb go in deep with the first single to highlight their famous falsetto.

Rising UK singer-songwriter The Gleeman gets ready for the festive season with wistful new single ‘I Love Christmastime', releasing it one month before the big day.Having hit the scene with his debut EP ‘The Gunslinger' earlier this year, The Gleeman is set to round off his 2022 with ‘I Love Christmastime', a song sure to stir up memories of childhood glee every 25th December. In the spirit of singers such as Don McLean, Robin Gibb and Billy Joel, The Gleeman's voice takes you back to an era gone by, and with mentions of reindeer, Santa and the North Pole all name-checked to ring in the season, the festive excitement is almost palpable.‘There is nothing as heart-warming as witnessing the wonder on a child's face at Christmas – we all connect with that feeling. Leaving out mince pies & carrots, struggling to sleep through excitement, listening for the faintest sound of sleigh bells. “I Love Christmastime” takes us all back to that childhood innocence and reminds us of the joys of Christmas, no matter our age.' – The GleemanThe Gleeman grew up in the small West Cornish town of Helston, a short drive west of Falmouth, where his early passion for music saw him move through the ranks from the recorder to guitar to the school choir, and cornet in the local brass band. He was influenced by his love of piano men such as Billy Joel and Elton John, but was more a child of ‘80s pop, from Adam & the Ants to Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and via Queen on to the ‘90s bastions of Britpop. The Gleeman is set to release his debut album ‘Something to Say' in 2023. The album follows on from its debut EP ‘The Gunslinger', released in 2022, and a string of singles such as ‘Armistice Day' and ‘Hanging Around (The Ballad of Aaron & Amy Pt 3)'. Produced by Will Hicks (who has worked with likes of Ed Sheeran, One Direction and James Blunt), the album touches on themes of mental health, life milestones and loss balanced with uplifting and quirky storytelling. There will be a run of live performances from The Gleeman preceding ‘Something to Say', be sure to keep an eye on this significant new performer. Hosted on Acast. You reach a point in your life where you finally realize, who you are is more important than what you think you're supposed to be in the world. That's when you take the stand to say, "Sorry, not sorry," and then write an amazing song about that exact subject. Drawing upon her own talent and DNA as daughter of Maurice Gibb - one third of BeeGees fame - Samantha Gibb, shares how she has come to a space where showing her true colors as a musical talent, and as an authentic person is the only way to put Good Lovin, out in the world. About Samantha Samantha was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida and now lives in Nashville, TN. Sam's father, legendary Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, vastly influenced her life and her music. She has said, “Growing up watching my father and my uncles really set the bar for what kind of musician and songwriter I wanted to be”. In 2004, after her father passed away, Sam partnered with Lazaro Rodriguez, creating M.E.G. Records/M.E.G. Productions (M.E.G. being the acronym for her father's initials, Maurice Ernest Gibb). “It was a way for me to keep my dad's personal studio alive and making sure the instruments would always be played.” Samantha has said. In 2007, along with her band and studio, Sam relocated to Nashville, TN. Upon arriving, Sam began to work on a music documentary called “A Nashville State of Mind”. The film was inspired by the musicians she met and the evolving music scene she encountered while living in East Nashville at that time. “A Nashville State of Mind” was accepted into over 15 film festivals and won the best international music doc in 2008 at the LA/NY International film and music festival. In 2010, her band, Samantha Gibb and The Cartel, crossed the pond for her first U.K. tour to promote her album “Wrong Side”. Later that year, they followed up with an acoustic tour of the East Coast. In February 2012, Sam performed at the Hard Rock Live in Ft. Lauderdale with her Uncle, Barry Gibb. With great success from the show, she continued to tour with her uncle on his Mythology Tour where she performed in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland and North America until 2014. In the beginning of 2015, Sam sang with again with her uncle at the Miami Beach Centennial show in Miami Beach, FL. In 2016, Sam began to work on a tribute album for her father and her uncles (Robin Gibb, Barry Gibb, and Andy Gibb), titled “The Gibb Collective”. The song titled “Please Don't Turn Out the Lights” brought together her family, including the eldest children of Barry, Maurice, Robin, and Andy. The album included covers of their music with a different style and new flavor. The album was released in 2017 for Father's Day. In 2021, she collaborated with award winning country singer-songwriter Kyle Jacobs on her single, “Spiraling" and later that year she released “Christmas in a Small Town” which she wrote with Kyle Jacobs and another award winning songwriter, Tony Wood. In July of this year she released her newest singles “Good Lovin'” and followed up with “Sorry, Not Sorry” at the end of September. Samantha's writing is unique and has a versatile musical sound that blends perfectly with her sultry vocals. The Bee Gees had a string of hits in the 60s and 70s. Maurice Gibb was one of the members of the brother group, the Bee Gees, one of the most successful pop groups of all-time. Maurice's career started at the age of six in a skiffle rock and roll group named the “Rattlesnakes,” which later became the Bee Gees. His early musical influences included the Beatles, Everly Brothers, the Mills Brothers and Paul Anka. Maurice was the fraternal twin of Robin Gibb. On Dec. 28 1957, the brothers were invited to perform at a local movie theater. They planned to sing along to a 78 rpm record, but they dropped and broke the record so they had to sing live. They sang “Wake Up Little Susie” by the Everly Brothers. The audience thought they were great and they were on their way to stardom.

Nelson Montana Music Industry Insights from Composer, Arranger, Artist, Musician, Nelson Montana. A Conversation and music from Concert Halls to Studio to Broadway If you are a singer/songwriter or just an artist who dabbles with music, there's so much to learn from my guest, Nelson Montana. His eclectic interest in various genres is inspiring and noteworthy. Join us in this fascinating conversation on the Long Island Sound. Arranger / Composer /Bassist / Multi-Instrumentalist / Vocalist / Producer / Engineer Nelson Montana is a New York-based musician who is also a producer, composer, and arranger. Though primarily a bassist he plays a total of eleven instruments. https://soundcloud.com/nelson-montanaNelson's career goes back to when he played with the critically acclaimed band “Popular Science” as a drummer and songwriter before he switched to bass as his main instrument years later. Since then, he's been a full-time bassist working in various venues and all styles of music, from concert halls to studio work to Broadway plays. Consequently, he's the only person to have been featured in both Modern Drummer magazine as well as Bass Player magazine. And his guitar work on his album “Don't Fear the Reverb” has also received high praise. Nelson has played with members of the bands Steely Dan, Daft Punk, Jimmy Buffet, and Stevie Winwood. He's also featured in the new book “From The Record” along with music industry legends, Robin Gibb, Neil Sedaka, and Kelly Rowland. Nelson currently works mostly as a producer and recording engineer, but still manages to record much of his own music. He has over 300 videos on Youtube where he plays all the instruments and the styles range from Rock to Jazz, to Funk to Country. Being so eclectic is difficult to market because people expect an artist to do one thing, but as Nelson puts it, “I enjoy all types of music and want to express myself in a variety of ways. If others enjoy it, I've succeeded in what I'm trying to do.” That is why he currently makes all of his recordings available free of charge to his fans. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with the Cousins Gibb, Family of the BeeGees, Singers/SongwritersAbout Harvey's guest:Today's guests are music stars and cousins, with a legendary pedigree. Nick Endacott-Gibb was adopted at an early age, but in 2019, following a 10-year search to find his biological parents, Nick traced his birth mother, and discovered that his father is Maurice Gibb of The Bee Gees – and this has been confirmed with DNA. Music has always been Nick's passion, and over the years he has written his own songs, and produced, recorded and performed with many top British artists, and with his band, "The Speak". His cousin is Debora McLane, whose mother, Leslie, is the sister of Bee Gees Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb. Blessed with an expressive and versatile voice, she has spent many years as a vocalist and performer. After Nick and Debora connected, they formed a music duo, “Cousins Gibb”. Their first single - a tribute to their legendary family roots – is a new reimagined version of the Bee Gees hit song “Tragedy”. Their second single, which was released last Christmas, is a beautiful original song entitled, “Coming Home”. They're working on a full-length album of original material, scheduled for release later this year. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/https://www.facebook.com/CousinsGibbOfficial/https://open.spotify.com/artist/6VjqYxzxUSpFqG0MQQvMithttps://music.amazon.com/artists/B0991YCDDB/cousins-gibb#CousinsGibb #NickEndicottGibb #DeboraMcLane #harveybrownstoneinterviews
Stuart and Cristiano discuss the follow-up to ‘Robin's Reign' that never was. Compiled from material composed and recorded in 1970, ‘Sing Slowly Sisters' is filled with Robin's signature story lyrics, earworm melodies and haunting arrangements - but would it have made a worthy second album, or even have been combined with Maurice and Barry's abandoned solo works of the time? Song: Hold On To My LoveSong by: Jimmy Ruffin Hello! I'm Gail Nobles & you're listening to Sound Flave. You know it's hard to live without someone you've been close to. Robin Gibb wrote a song that explained those feelings, and it was performed by soul singer Jimmy Ruffin. The song was titled, “Hold On To My Love”. It was a song released in 1980. It reached #10 in the US. I never heard that song again for a long time after 1980. But I never forgot the chorus.(Chorus)I need to add that both Robin Gibb & Blue Weaver we're songwriters for the song & they were the producers. The song was released on Jimmy Ruffin's album , “Sunrise”.Oh, what a great song. I'm sure there are many great memories with it. It's a song that always stayed with me. I'm sure it's a song that always stayed with some of you. Jimmy Ruffin is a legend and the song lives on. Robin Gibb is no longer with us and Blue Weaver is still with us. Thanks to the two of them we have a great song to remember. And thanks to soul singer Jimmy Ruffin. The title of the song is “Hold On To My Love”.
It was an honor to have a conversation with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band star Diane Steinberg Lewis. As "Lucy" in the film, Diane worked closely with Peter Frampton, the Bee Gees, Paul Nicholas and Donald Pleasence as she shined on the screen as the leader of Lucy and the Diamonds. Her rendition of the Beatles classic "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" with Stargard is a classic in its own right, and her scene stealing performances throughout the film prove to be supremely enjoyable. We discuss what it was like to work with Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb, as well as being a love interest to Peter Frampton's "Billy Shears." She tells stories of the wild times on set, as well as other memories from that infamous movie musical.
We watched the Bee Gees documentary, How Do You Mend a Broken Heart, and have some definite opinions and facts to share. BTW, did you know that Robin Gibb was a childhood pyromaniac? And there's a "missing" Gibb family member? Also featured on this episode: Susie's giving away 12 Days of tarot readings and Angie was New Year's partying to one of her favorite local bands.

Robin Gibb was a musician who did much to define the pop music of the 70s and 80s. With his brothers Maurice and Barry he formed the Bee Gees. They wrote the soundtrack for the disco era, perhaps captured best in their music for the movie Saturday Night Fever. In December 2010, Robin Gibb joined Stephen Sackur in the Hardtalk studio to talk about his music, his family and the pressures of a pop business which drove him into a private hell of drink, drugs and depression. In more recent years, Robin Gibb found a new sense of purpose, both in his music and in his work for a host of charities. To the end he remained committed to song-writing and was an advocate for talent in an industry increasingly dominated by marketing rather than the music itself. So today, a look back at Hardtalk with the late Robin Gibb.
