Giovanne Cruz! Such a wonderful guest! Who would have thought that she and I had so much in common? But that's not what the interview is about.  Her role in the latest Lovecraftian movie, “Suitable Flesh” alongside Barbara Crampton, Heather Graham, Bruce Davidson and Judah Lewis. This movie certainly touched all points in the H.P. Lovecraft universe: from the low-cosmic colors to body jumping, and the gratuitous sex scenes, this movie is made for the Lovecraft genre. Giovanne posited the theory that Barbara Crampton's character and Heather Graham's character are actually biological sisters due to the fact that the “ancient one” (that's what I am calling this so-called demon/person who is causing all of this trouble) can only jump to bodies of those who are within the same bloodline. After mentioning that, I am going to have to rewatch the movie and see if that theory holds – but I am most certain it does. Overall, a great guest that I would love to have back on my shows in the future. In the meantime, follow Giovanne on Instagram for updates. Additionally, continue to follow me as I continue to add more guests to my shows. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/southjerseyhorror/message

The industrialisation of agriculture has created large paddocks of monoculture crops and increased the chemical burden on farmers and their environments. Global herbicide use has continued to increase as farmers have shifted to no till practices and adopted herbicide-tolerant crop cultivars over the last 30 years. One result of this is that the list of herbicide resistant #weeds is growing. Some farmers spend huge amounts of money on herbicide and scarce time removing weeds; Meanwhile, exactly how much damage is being done to native plant species and soils is not yet fully known. Either way, the current model is not sustainable In this episode we are exploring a paradigm shift to an ecological systems approach to weeds with Soils for Life agroecologist Sarah Fea. We visit four farmers to understand their changing relationship to plants. Including a grazier, seed producer, a farmer who has enlisted the help of goats and another who has developed no kill cropping. We take a fresh look at weeds and how we can benefit from seeing them through a different lens. We hear how specific weeds germinate to heal damaged soils, showing us what the soil needs and how we can help them heal it. James Diack from Soils for Life visits grazier Martin Royds at his farm Jillamatong in Braidwood. They sit down to have a yarn over Martin's fascinating story of change and repair. James also talks to farmer and soil microbiologist Bruce Davidson, who has a great story about how he approaches Blackberries and African Lovegrass. And Agroecologist Sarah Fea talks to seed producer Russel Young who talks about the challenges he's facing as someone who is earlier on in his journey of transition to a more biological approach to farming. She also visits Bruce Maynard to hear more about his approach to weeds. Bruce is a farmer and educator who has developed methods such as No Kill Cropping and Self-Herding. On this episode of What Makes You Click, Kelvin welcomes Maren Levinson, Founder and Artist Representative at Redeye Representatives. Redeye is a creative agency representing contemporary photographers, illustrators and set designers to ad agencies, design firms, magazines and businesses of any size. Maren talks about the nitty gritty of what it's like to find representation as a photographer and to be represented by a creative agency. “A lot of photographers think that they need to impress an agent, but the best place to be to get an agent is to have agents trying to impress you. You should make yourself into the kind of artist that agents are clamoring to represent.”        - Maren Levinson Maren also shares the story of her photography journey, from finding inspiration in words, pictures, and architecture as a child to exploring editorial photography and founding Redeye Representatives. She speaks on how her vision of having a gallery morphed into the creation of Redeye and what it's like to work in and build a creative agency's team. Then, Maren talks about what she looks for in artists, the importance of being clear on your distinct style and voice, and what it costs financially to be represented, noting the commission agencies receive from their artists' revenues. She speaks on the effects of systemic racism on the photography industry and why Redeye strives to be of service to humanity by, for example, offering free BIPOC portfolio review.Tune in to hear powerful advice on pursuing your creative dreams and to learn which photography trends have been appearing prior to and during the pandemic.“Photograph towards your dream.”        - Maren LevinsonAbout the Guest:Maren Levinson is the Founder and Artist Representative at Redeye Representatives. Connect with Maren Levinson and Redeye:Visit their website: www.redeyereps.com Follow Redeye: www.instagram.com/redeyerepsConnect with Maren on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/maren-levinson-61b7242 Connect with What Makes You Click:Visit our website: www.whatmakesyouclick.com Follow us on Instagram: www.instagram.com/whatmakesyouclickpodcast Connect with us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/whatmakesyouclick People + Resources Mentioned:Mother Jones: www.motherjones.com Dwell: www.dwell.com Elena Dorfman: www.elenadorfman.comPeggy Sirota: www.instagram.com/peggysirotaEast 100th Street by Bruce Davidson: www.goodreads.com/book/show/899951.East_100th_StreetWilliam Eggleston Art Foundation: www.egglestonartfoundation.org Martin Parr: www.martinparr.com Olivier Laude: www.olivierlaude.comPDN: www.pdnonline.comDiversify Photo: www.diversify.photoVideo of Maren Discussing Photography Trends: https://youtu.be/tkEttiJxJr4John Keatley: www.johnkeatley.com

In 1968 he started a three-year course at the London College of Printing (LCP), and during his first year, went to New York, where he was impressed by the work of photographers - Henri Cartier-Bresson, Bruce Davidson, Lee Friedlander, Robert Frank, Burk Uzzle and Garry Winogrand — that he saw at the Museum of Modern Art. Whilst considering a new photographic project at college, Sykes came across a story on the Britannia Coconut Dancers in an issue of In Britain magazine. This led him to research other local festivals in Britain at the archives of Cecil Sharp House, London. Sykes' photography of these festivals was inspired by that of Sir Benjamin Stone, but he approached them with a modern sensibility and a small-format camera, after absorbing advice from photographer David Hurn, then a part-time lecturer at LCP, as well as other photographers that he met through Hurn, including editor and writer Bill Jay. Sykes moved on to photographing news stories for the Weekend Telegraph, Observer, Sunday Times, Newsweek, Now, Time, and New Society. He worked with various agencies including from 1989 to 2005 with the influential Network Photographers. Sykes also photographed the British landscape for various books but always found time for his own projects including Hunting with Hounds, and On the Road Again, photographs of four North American road trips taken over three decades. Sykes has taught on the Master's course in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication and in 2014, the Maison de la photographie Robert Doisneau, Paris, held a major exhibition of Sykes' work from the 1970s. He photographed the glam rock, punk, new wave and other music/fashion scenes of Britain and his work has been consistently published as a series of short narratives by Cafe Royal Books and as a major monograph My British Archive: The Way We Were 1968-1983 by Dewis Lewis in 2018. Homer continues to document the British way of life today and lives in South-West London. www.homersykes.com Grant Scott is the founder/curator of United Nations of Photography, a Senior Lecturer and Subject Co-ordinator: Photography at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, a working photographer, and the author of Professional Photography: The New Global Landscape Explained (Focal Press 2014) and The Essential Student Guide to Professional Photography (Focal Press 2015). His next book New Ways of Seeing: The Democratic Language of Photography will be published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2019. © Grant Scott 2019
