Mahmoud Ait Elketab is a young Moroccan man that was forced into entrepreneurship as a result of The Shutdown in the early days of this pandemic (yes, as of the posting of this video, we are still in a pandemic). He lost his job and when he began to look for a new job, he saw an opportunity. He provided a service whereby he built an online dashboard where recruiters could meet the appropriate job applicants. It was wildly successful, and he could have built a business around that alone. But that wasn't interesting to Mahmoud. He loved the community building aspect of what he built. He saw that underneath all of the uncertainty in that venture, what people really wanted was to connect. He saw how much human beings are social animals And that caught my attention. His spirit, heart, vision, and empathy are infectious. In a classic artistic pivot, he and his brother have created a new fragrance line called "Areej". Their motivation was based upon building good feelings and community like he experienced with his first venture, by evoking wonderful emotions through smell. After talking here with Mahmoud and his brother, I have no doubts that they will succeed Take a listen... I think you will too! His website

Barbara Legere's story of addiction and mental health is a cautionary tale for all parents. As she journeyed alongside her son, Keven through his struggles with substance abuse and depression-which ultimately led to suicide - Barbara learned so much about love in its purest form: caring enough to ask questions; listening without judgment or giving advice when it wasn't wanted The risk we take by loving someone who needs more care than they can get from themselves brings us full circle back once again...to where we started. Except this time, with a new understanding: that love - in all its forms - is always worth the risk. Her story is one of love, hope, and ultimately tragedy. As a mother, she did everything she could to help her son, but in the end, she was forced to accept that there was nothing more she could do. In the process, she shines a light on the hidden anguish of countless parents who are taking care of children that society tells them to abandon. For those parents who have borne witness to overdose, arrests, addiction, treatment, incarceration, and even death, "Keven's Choice" is a raw and intimate memoir of a mother's grief that shows it's possible and necessary to go on, even amidst the unimaginable. Available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Apple Books, or through your favorite bookstore. IN THIS EPISODE: 3:48 Meet Keven. 6:01 How she found out about his addiction 10:27 She got a crash-course about drugs - from addicts 11:20 7 of her son's friends are now gone... and she knows of over 300 other people dead from overdose, in South Orange County 14:31 Her eye opening experience visiting her son in prison 24:11 You need more than love 25:35 Was this what started the problem for Keven? 29:30 The effects begin to take their toll & Barbara takes a controversial approach 36:01 Her body, her choice 38:35 Keven's older half sister... 43:35 The two messages of her book

Anthony Martin is a man on a mission. 22 years ago he started the Urban Youth Racing School (UYRS) in Philadelphia, thereby giving predominately young, African American children their first glimpse into a sport/world/industry that they knew nothing about. NASCAR, IHRA, and the like and the cars, speed, look, design, fun of the racing world captured the kids attention & their imagination. UYRS teaches them the sport, the mechanics, the mathematics, the science, the technology, the engineering, the artistry, etc., and the darndest thing happened along the way... The kids started seeing and understanding the relationship between the racing world and what they're being taught in school. Consequently their grades started to improve, the graduation rate from high school improved, college attendance and graduation improved, and these formerly neglected, overlooked, underserved, disenfranchised kids started to bloom...into scientists, pilots, mathematicians, engineers, and the like. Who would have thought any of that was possible? Anthony did. His story is inspiring. Enjoy this episode! I'm not really sure how to describe Joseph Rodrigues... On one hand, he's like any other man his age; however, as soon as you begin to speak with him it's apparent that he's unlike anyone you've ever met. He started out in the Information Technology (IT) field, but his whole life changed drastically after he took an online course. We met through a mutual contemporary, and as soon as I spoke with him...I knew I wanted to share his mind with all of you. Here's what Joe had to say about this Episode: "In this particular conversation, we got piercingly deep into the evolution of the mind from a perspective via the Robert Dilts - Logical Levels of Change Model. This unique combination unintentionally infused the mystical "mind stuff" into a transformative experience to share... or as Dar referred to it "Psychological LSD." I trust you'll enjoy this lighthearted odyssey into the mind as you relate the insights revealed, to YOUR goals, dreams, and aspirations, all facilitated masterfully via the Art of Being Dar - with Dar Dixon." Joseph has dedicated his life to improving himself in all areas of his life. Fair Warning: You just might find yourself reaching out to see if you can work with him. You Wouldn't Be The First Person To Do That... And You Won't Be The Last. Because like this podcast's tagline: Art is Life & Life is Art - Joe embodies this in full...and in many ways, his Life is the most elegant form of Performance Art. Here's the story of my friend Stan... We've known each other since we were 16-17 years old. We played high school football together, hung out during our college years, and then our lives took their turns...as is wont to happen in every life. He went into the Air Force and ended up at Ramstein AF Base, in Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany. He played football for the base team, until he turned his focus towards boxing. He became the heavyweight champion. When he returned to the USA he settled in Las Vegas, and worked as a bartender (in 2 different establishments), as well as a security guard. As you'll hear in this episode, a near death experience with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (yes...it was a racial profiling against him) led him to focus solely upon bartending... He became a part owner of a bar called Money Plays. Money Plays was a local neighborhood bar & video gambling establishment, situated just down the street from The Palms Casino...literally. Stan called it "...like Cheers on acid" - lol Within a couple of years, Stan became the sole owner of Money Plays. An experiment into the world of Live Music became a lifeline to the area's hip hop artists, and it bore a magical event... The Black Book Sessions. It was incredible, and it threatened his bar...because... well, you're just gonna have to listen to find out. IN THIS EPISODE: 6:02 Yeah, when I went vegan, man, 7:24 Yeah, Stan's tripping now. 9:47 You want me to kiss you on the mouth too? 10:47 You were always a voice for reason - Stan talking about Dar - lol 13:08 Ah, local bar called Money Plays 16:13 It's like "Cheers" on acid 20:25 A really interesting story that just has to be heard and it has to be told 21:22 We were... longest running "Open Mic" in Las Vegas, Nevada. 21:38 The Secret to Money Plays' Success 26:19 Stan, Dar and The Video Poker Story 30:08 The Secret to Winning in Vegas 33:06 The Black Book Sessions 33:52 Questlove & Black Thought of The Roots 38:08 We had The Apollo 'West'/Gong Show thing going on. 43:32 Enjoy the music and the art...find the commonality with your fellow man. 48:03 Saggy Pants and it's origin... How does a guy that was a sales manager for a dating site get involved with a startup Personal Growth company, that uses neuroscience to help meditate more deeply than a Buddhist monk, at the touch of a button?! (hint: it has a little to do with studying comparative religions) In this episode I talk with Marc Gilson. He's the Director of Client Services and Product Development at Centerpointe Research Institute (CRI). Centerpointe is the sponsor of this podcast. No... this isn't going to be an 'advertisement' for Centerpointe. But it is a company that I hold in high regard, that has a proprietary product called Holosync. And Holosync is a way to meditate, and get all the benefits of meditation, 8 x's faster than with traditional meditation. Holosync has changed my life for the better in so many ways, that it's hard to explain. I have never really talked about Holosync or my use of it and I want to share my experiences with you, in hopes of possibly inspiring you too, to enjoy its benefits. I feel lucky to have them onboard with me during this journey. Bill Harris was the Founder of Centerpointe, and the creator of Holosync. Bill died suddenly and unexpectedly in May of 2018. Marc worked with Bill from almost the very beginning of the company's formation. Marc has seen the incredible growth, peoples results, he understands how Holosync works: The creation of “whole-brain thinking,” along with all the improvements in mental clarity, creativity, and focus. If you're interested in experiencing more peace, love, success, and happiness? You owe it to yourself to try Holosync. Hey, welcome to The Art of Being Dar, with your host, me Dar Dixon. This is from an interview that I did with a YouTube channel called Film Courage. Film Courage is on YouTube. Not only are they cool people, but it's an amazing channel with amazing content. If you have any desires to be in Hollywood and learn more about acting, directing, producing, storytelling, script breakdown, the writing process, even music, you name it. That's the channel I'd go to. You'd be well served to go there. Go over there and check them out. Subscribe to their channel. They're great people. I love them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is from a clip that I did with them last year in 2019. I went in there and I thought I was gonna talk about acting, my Hollywood experience, my career, art, the process of character development, you know, all that kind of typical stuff. And the first question out of the gate turned this entire interview into something that I was not expecting at all. And actually, I loved. It was a really “Life is Art & Art is Life” moment, and I'll explain more about that in a subsequent clip. But in this one here, this is what I found with my own research and my own study, to be the most common trait found in all successful people. Whether they're artists, businesspeople, you name it. And I'm pretty sure it's not what you think it is. Let's give it a listen. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE. How does a talented, veteran actor end up breaking all sales records on ITV's “Ideal World”? Rob and I talk about acting, the acting game, the realities of pursuing an acting career in Hollywood, & how he has become a legend on “Ideal World”. You gotta love Rob Locke. In fact, to know him is to love him. We met on the set of an industrial “commercial” for a defense contractor, almost 8 years ago. The first thing I noticed was that he was a cut above the other actors. And…he didn't take himself too seriously. He took the work seriously…but not himself. To me, that's everything. The guy's not full of himself, like most actors are. I love acting. I love it. But the one thing that I don't like about it is dealing with lame, boring, superficial, self-absorbed, insecure, neurotic, actors. He's very intelligent, quick witted, and has a natural charm…as you'll hear in his episodes. He has an impressive repertoire of characters, voices, and impersonations…much like me. He's a kindred spirit. As we got to know one another better, we noticed that we had many similarities. One of the most striking was our knowledge of neurolinguistics, influence, persuasion, and sales…and of course, acting, comedy and showmanship. I've never met another actor that shared those interests with me. He's never used them for bad purposes, either. You see, once you learn those topics and then master them, it's very easy to use them to manipulate people and situations to do… bad things… and to be unscrupulous. I've seen it happen many, many times. Rob is not “that guy”. He has integrity. He's hilarious. He's a good guy. I think those are the reasons he's having such a resurgence in his career. Sometimes your ‘break' comes from the least likely place… sometimes it's from something you gave up on years ago.
