This week, we continue to run from the CIA in the second installment of the Bourne trilogy, The Bourne Supremacy. Matt Damon is still hot in this movie, but now he must contend with Karl Urban, aka Master of the Riddermark and leader of the Rohirrim (aka hot with short black hair and long blond hair). But that's beside the point, sadly, we return to the world of espionage in the distant land of Europe to find who killed Neski in Berlin! Answer, Jason Bourne in the bedroom with the revolver! But it's never that simple. We've got dumb intelligence officers, spooky snipers, douchey consulate brats, and Celeborn the other Kiwi assassin. Yay? Shout out to Joan Allen for being the boss, the chameleon, the tour de force to make this movie work!

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, our hosts take a moment to honor Middle-Earth's most often forgotten partner: Celeborn. Whether it's Gandalf, Elrond, or even Sauron/Halbrand...Galadriel hangs out with everyone BUT her poor husband. Join us as we remember poor lost Celeborn this Valentine's Day (because no one else will)!
Join The Man of the West as he answers a mailbag question about a legendary Norwegian bowman and his possible inspiration of one of Tolkien's most tragic characters. Plus, Alan almost certainly mispronounces the same name many, many times.
Wychodzimy z kopalni Morii i docieramy do przedziwnego lasu Lothlorien. Co spotka nas w tej krainie? Czy Galadriela i Celeborn powitają Drużynę Pierścienia z radością, czy będą jej niechętni?
Galadriel makes a big deal of Celeborn's wisdom in The Lord of the Rings, but we actually get almost no examples of it and are left wondering what makes him so impressive. Could it be Galadriel's real reason for thinking him wise is highly personal? Tolkien introduce Galadriel late in the writing process. Yet, he quickly became fascinated with her character. Over the years, her story evolved and changed. In today's episode, our hosts discuss her origins, her evolution as a character, her relationship with Celeborn, and even a surprise note about another suitor who experienced unrequited love for her.
In this episode, we finally confirm that Treebeard is in fact, the oldest living thing on Middle Earth! We also discuss Arwen's gift, and talk about Galadriel and Celeborn's marital issues. This episode covers Chapters 6 and 7 of Book 6 of The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King.
Dnes nás čeká seznámení s jednou nezajímavějších a neslavnějších postav Středozemě vůbec.

Wandering in the summer in the woods... Beren came upon Lúthien... at a time of evening under moonrise, as she danced upon the unfading grass in the glades... or was that Celeborn who came upon Galadriel? It's just so hard to keep track of these things, thank god we have Amazon Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to set things straight. Who was secretly in love with Galadriel? Why did the showrunners write out Celeborn? What shenanigans are Galadriel and Halbrand going to get up to during their romantic alone time? All this and more! Our old friend, Celeborn, makes an appearance, even if it's on a Second Age milk carton; Durin IV finds himself un-princed, and we hear some lovely Quenya from a tall Stranger in the Grove. James, Sara, and Alan discuss the seventh episode of The Rings of Power, but disagree on the nature of romantic meet-cutes. Isildur casts himself into the fire, Theo gets an actual sword (not just a hilt this time!), and Elrond makes an offer that Durin III can't refuse - except that he does. Also, Balrogs are light sleepers.
Amazon finally did it—they turned me into a hater of the show. Up until now it was bad writing and lore changes that I could sort of live with, but now they've broken with the legendarium in a way that was completely unnecessary except to serve some poor story-telling choice of their own, and I've had it.

Disclaimer: If you are confused as to why Chapter 20 is out before 19, please note that we lost part of Chapter 19! Explanation coming soon! So we couldn't release it unfortunately so we just have to skip it if we want to finish this book! In chapter 20 we discuss how Celeborn plays second fiddle to Galadriel, the Fellowships indecisiveness, how Gimli is no regular dwarf, Galadriel and her magic pedalo, her gifts to the lads, elven magic, warebears and amazing river names. On this night walk, amidst the music of crickets and frogs and the prowling of foxes and other creatures best left unnamed, we talk about the long histories of Galadriel and Celeborn, and the meaning of the name of Mary. Plus, what do “the fairest daughter of the Eldar” and “the fairest of our race” have in common? (Less than some scholars would have you believe, but more than meets the eye!) Opening music: “Ave maris stella,” composed by Josquin des Prez, sung by the St. Bartholomew's Schola, dir. Shannon Gallier, Atlanta, GA, 2014. Many Partings -- After many days, when the festivities are over, the Company sets out for Rivendell. Aragorn tells Frodo that he knows the hobbit wishes for nothing more than to return home. Frodo answers that he wishes first to stop off at Rivendell to visit Bilbo one last time, as the older hobbit will likely die soon. On the way, they stop at Rohan and bid farewell to Éomer, honoring the memory of Théoden. After a brief stay in Rohan, they set off again. Arriving in Isengard, they meet Treebeard, the Ent leader who orchestrated the march on Saruman in The Two Towers. The Ents had promised to guard Saruman's old stronghold of Orthanc, ensuring that the corrupt wizard would never escape. Treebeard tells them of the flight of many Orcs and the doom the Orcs met in the forest. He relates that he reported news regularly to Saruman, who would come to the window of Orthanc to listen. But then the wizard withered away. Treebeard, to Gandalf's dismay, has released Saruman, for he did not wish to keep such a miserable creature caged. Gandalf warns Treebeard that Saruman still has the power of his voice—a power he has used to his advantage in the past. Proceeding onward, the group comes upon an old, ragged man leaning on a staff. They recognize him as Saruman. Another beggar in his company is Wormtongue, his former servant. The deposed Saruman is bitter but powerless. Galadriel and Gandalf offer Saruman mercy and reprieve. Their kindness irritates Saruman, who claims that with his demise, theirs will soon follow. After a few more days of slow and pleasant travel, Galadriel and Celeborn turn eastward and return home. The remaining travelers reach Rivendell and the House of Elrond, and they find Bilbo. The old hobbit sits quietly in a small room, surrounded by bits of paper and pencils. The next day, all of Rivendell celebrates Bilbo's 129th birthday. After a fortnight, Frodo realizes that he must return to the Shire. Bilbo chooses to remain in Rivendell, for he is far too old for any more travel. Bilbo gives Frodo three books of collected lore entitled Translations from the Elvish, asking Frodo to finish editing them. Before Frodo leaves, Elrond takes the hobbit quietly aside, assuring him that in time he himself will visit the Shire, and he will bring Bilbo with him.
The Steward and the King -- The narrative jumps back to the time before the quest is finished, now focusing on the perspective of those in Minas Tirith. While Aragorn and the forces of Gondor are away, the city remains shrouded in fear. Faramir meets Lady Éowyn in the Houses of Healing. Éowyn longs for Aragorn and the chance to fight with the Riders against Mordor. Her sadness, mixed with pride and beauty, leads Faramir to fall in love with her. For days, they stare to the east, waiting for word of Gondor's success, until they eventually see the Darkness break. As sunlight breaks through the sky, the citizens of Minas Tirith break out in song. Messengers soon arrive telling of Aragorn's victory. The conflict resolved, Éowyn's longing for war fades, and she and Faramir agree to wed. When Aragorn returns, Faramir rides out of the gate of Minas Tirith and offers him the keys of the city and an ancient crown. To everyone's amazement, Aragorn calls for the Ring-bearer and Gandalf. Frodo hands the crown to Gandalf, who places it upon -Aragorn's brow. The city of Minas Tirith begins to revive. Its walls are restored, and the city is filled with trees, fountains, and laughter. Ambassadors from many lands arrive in Gondor, and Aragorn shows mercy by rewarding both the faithful and the enemies of the West. Gandalf explains that the Third Age of Middle-earth has passed: the war against Sauron is over, and Aragorn's reign in the age of Men has begun. The group climbs up an ancient, snowy path, at the end of which, amidst a pile of debris, Aragorn finds a sapling of the great White Tree—the symbol of ancient Elendil, Gondor's kingdom. Aragorn takes the sapling back to the Citadel. The old, dead tree is removed and laid to rest, and the new one planted in its place. The day before Midsummer, a group of Elves approaches Minas Tirith. Celeborn and Galadriel, Elrohir and Elladan, and all the Elf princes arrive in the city. Behind them, mightiest of all, is Elrond with his daughter, Arwen. On the day of Midsummer, Aragorn (now called King Elessar) and Arwen are wed. Queen Arwen, seeking to repay Frodo for his immeasurable service and suffering, offers him a gift. When the time comes, he may sail in her stead across the Great Sea to the unknown West, where the Elves dwell in eternal youth and joy.
Galadriel (und Celeborn) sind mit Sicherheit zwei der interessantes Charaktere Tolkiens. Hintergründe, Geschichte und Trivia in dieser Folge. Viel Spaß beim Hören!
Special guest Nishant joins us to discuss the influence of the Lord of the Rings on his life. We also discuss the etiquette of gift-giving and how Celeborn should have been left on the cutting room floor. This episode covers Book 2, Chapters 8 & 9 of The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring.
In this episode we discuss The History of Galadriel and Celeborn from Unfinished Tales. There's some talk of Pink Prancing Ponies, a tentative date to celebrate Annatar Lord of Gifts, and more than a couple "Well, actually"s.
Tell me, where is episode nine? For I much desire to listen to it! The latest episode evaluates Celeborn, Lórien's own Lord of the West! Then, the cast discuss their ranking of the game's heroic actions. Farewell to Lothlórien - As night falls, they arrive at Caras Galadhon, the city of the Galadhrim—the Elves who live in Lothlórien. Entering the great gates of the city, they come presently to a large tree and climb a ladder to a large platform, "like the deck of a great ship," on which a great house stands. In a chamber of the house, Galadriel and her husband Celeborn, the Lord and Lady of Lothlórien, greet them each by name. Celeborn and Galadriel ask why Gandalf is not with them and the Company shares the bad news of Gandalf's fall. The Lord and Lady say they will help Frodoin his quest, of which they are aware. The Fellowship remains in Lothlórien for many days but eventually realizes they must leave and continue the quest. Both Frodo and Sam feel strongly that they must be on their way. As the two hobbits discuss this, Galadriel approaches and leads them to a spring next to which sits a silver basin on a pedestal. Filling the basin with water, she invites them to look into "the Mirror of Galadriel," which shows "things that were, and things that are, and things that yet may be." Sam sees "Frodo with a pale face lying fast asleep under a great dark cliff ... [and] himself going along a dim passage, and climbing an endless winding stair." Then he sees trouble happening in the Shire. Frodo sees a "figure ... clothed not in grey but in white ... and in its hand there was a white staff." Then he sees Bilbo, back in Rivendell, and then flashes of scenes from the Ring's history—the "great history in which he had become involved." Finally, he sees a great Eye—the Eye of Sauron, which he knows is searching for him. Galadriel reveals to Frodo she is the bearer of one of the Elven rings, and so the destruction of the One Ring will mean the destruction of all the good she has done with her ring's power. She tells Frodo, "if you fail, then we are laid bare to the Enemy. Yet if you succeed, then our power is diminished, and Lothlórien will fade, and the tides of Time will sweep it away." Frodo offers her the One Ring, but she resists the temptation to take it.

Bilbo is ushered onto the boat to Valinor. GUESTS: Joey Rose Rysen and Caitlin Lukin Follow us on Facebook and Twitter Email us: contact@lordoftheringsminute.com And be sure to join our listener group: Fellowship of the Mic!
Galadriel says farewell with a few extra-special gifts for the extra-special members of the Fellowship while the others sit back and grumble about their belts and stuff. Gimli — unfazed by Celeborn’s presence — sweet-talks the Lady into giving him something incredibly personal, and Frodo and Sam receive gifts that seem nice, but aren’t something they’ll be using every day. We remember our painful teenage years with some weepy ‘80s love songs, whack the Fëanor piñata again (because why not), and interview James Tauber of the Digital Tolkien Project.
Now outfitted with boats, travel gear, and road snacks, the Fellowship leave Lothlórien. They make it just a little way down the river before they’re attacked by a gargantuan swan (which is just a big boat! Whew. And obviously we all totally knew that... who’s freaked out? We’re not freaked out) and invited to finally have a meal with the Lord and Lady of the Galadhrim. After an epic picnic on the grass, Celeborn — typical dad — gives directions, and Galadriel gives the Company “personalized” gifts that prove exactly who her favorites are.
Galadriel and Celeborn test the Fellowship once again by kindly inviting them to leave Lothlórien and not let the light plaited screen hit them on the way out. The Company are all ready to move on, but not sure where to go — fortunately, a few boats delay the need to make a decision for at least another week. Pippin gets confused looks for saying the M-word around Elves; Sam might have warned him if he wasn’t so busy geeking out on ropes. And your hosts get word-nerdy on lembas and the ladies who make it (warning: this podcast may contain gluten).
The Fellowship pass “some days” in Lórien as guests of Galadriel and Celeborn (though not the kind of guests who actually get to see or speak to their hosts), and get plenty of recovery, escape, and consolation from their travels and their grief. With nothing to do but eat, drink, rest, and walk, they are content — but life in a time bubble can’t last forever, and even Sam knows they’ll have to be leaving soon. Frodo remembers Gandalf in song, Pippin gets awfully protective about his blankets, and your hosts graciously accept corrections offered by actual experts in their fields.
The Fellowship comes to Caras Galadhon — the city of Lothlórien — where lights twinkle like stars in trees as tall as skyscrapers. After climbing to a high a and enormous flet they are greeted by Middle-earth’s #1 power couple: Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel. Celeborn’s welcome is warm at first, but cools when he learns the Company awoke something very warm (and wingless) in Moria. But when the Lady comes to their defense, even Gimli starts to feel all gooey inside. All this, and a sidebar illustrates the dangers of research in the murky waters of Tolkien’s unfinished material.

I've finally come to terms with the fact that I can't maintain accents consistently. Hopefully the voices are still distinct enough that you know who's who. :) This wraps up our Tolkien miniseries, which I thoroughly enjoyed. At some point I would love to revisit this series and perhaps poke a nose into another book, just to see how thins compare. Let me know in the comments below if you have a book or series in mind for me! Until next week, stay awesome, my Inklings. We'll be on the lookout for books that feel like Spring now that the weather is changing around us, and it's time to start thinking about the changing of the seasons and the times. I'll see you again - same time, same place. I have developed a theory! I think (and I could be wrong) that Tolkien describes places in ways that reflect the people that interact with it, rather than in terms of the place itself. I haven't been able to thoroughly test this theory, but I feel good about it. Maybe the appeal of forming a theory isn't in whether or not I'm right, but just in the act itself. :) Anyway, enjoy this episode, 4 of 5 in our Tolkien miniseries. We'll be back next week for a look at the introduction to Celeborn and Galadriel, where I'll probably spend more time than I should contrasting their depictions in the movie and in the book. And by "more than I should" I mean "any at all." Woop woop. Here we go. As usual, background music was provided by the wonderful AShamaluevMusic, with a special appearance by EmilyFantasy for the reading portions. Welcome to Part 2 in our series on the introductions and beginnings in The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. I can easily foresee 3 or 4 more episodes, concerning Frodo and his friends, Gandalf, and Aragorn at the very least. I'd also like to do an episode concerning the Council of Elrond and the scenes around it, where Frodo is meeting many new characters, and if you guys don't mind, a final episode splitting up the introductions of the Balrog in Moria and Celeborn and Galadriel in Lothlorien. While it would be interesting to look at how the Black Riders are introduced, they are much more in the way of Cthulhu in that they don't have a single definitive introduction, but are rather kept mysterious for the first half of the book, information being shared in bits and pieces rather than all at once. Then again... it would be worthwhile to look at that anyway, even if only from a technical point of view. Well, in any case, buckle up my friends. This is going to be a pretty wild ride. Jared, Oriana and Ned discuss Oriana’s choice of topic: Galadriel. Even if she’s not actually Cate Blanchett in platform heels, she’s tall and blonde, and she seems to have a total drip of a husband in Celeborn. If he’s wise, she’s definitely wiser, and once introduced into the legendarium, Tolkien himself didn’t seem to know exactly what to do with her backstory, quite literally changing details just a month before he died. Among our discussions: what did Galadriel and Celeborn do all that time when they were hanging out at the Elf havens in Gondor? Is Galadriel in fact really talking to Sauron in the famed sequence viewing her mirror? Why didn’t Galadriel return to Valinor sooner when it seemed she had numerous opportunities to do so? And of course: what is it about her hair? Bonus appearance by a thunderstorm!
As you’ve probably heard by now, the upcoming LOTR TV show will focus heavily on the story of Númenor and the Second Age of Middle-earth. Of the three Ages of Middle-earth, this is the one that we know the least about. For that reason, we thought it would be good to revisit the Second Age and really get our hands dirty in the details. Over the next several episodes, we’ll be embarking on a quest to make you as knowledgeable about Middle-earth’s Second Age as possible. On this week’s episode, we’ll be examining the timeline of this Age as found in Appendix B of The Lord of the Rings.
