In episode 5, Tera B. interviews child / adolescent and adult psychiatrist Dr. Robert Root. They discuss how ADHD is a spectrum disorder, and not just the one ADHD stereotype the general population tends to connect it with. Where therapy is helpful and where it's not helpful. What types of “assessments” there are, the importance of a medical professional taking a very thorough clinical history, and hopefully getting that done upfront at a young age to set a child up to thrive as they grow academically and socially. Dr. Root also walks us through medication, that it shouldn't be feared in general, but more importantly that an ADHD diagnosis doesn't mean a child automatically HAS to go on medication. He shares with us his own guiding principle for whether medication is necessary. So, grab a pen and paper or favorite or download this episode so you can have a bountiful reference point for all of the great advice Dr. Root has for us today. In today's episode, I discuss the time in life in which an individual is growing almost more than any other time, having increased needs because of it. During the school-age, individuals are learning healthy mealtime behaviors from their family and peers, they are growing as individuals with their own ideals, so learning how to be healthy and safe when eating is vital for promoting growth and good food relationships. I am a strong advocate for healthy meal environments, so you will hear me rant a few times in this episode concerning my opinions on the environment that children and young adults have now concerning food and health. In the first episode of 2021, host Anurag and guest Havovi Wadia discuss in depth, all things pertinent to child and adolescent rights in India. They discuss the difficulty of being a child during the transition into adolescence and adulthood, as well as the way society dictates the agency afforded to them. Additionally, they dive deep into the prevalence and rampant existence of child abuse in India, as well as avenues for rescue and rehabilitation for survivors. Finally, they also chat about the state of affairs in the development sector today, specifically with regards to children and adolescents. Havovi is an often inefficient, mostly happy, rather verbose person who loves local trains, is addicted to detective fiction (especially of the modern kind), and cannot function without a cup of tea made by her husband first thing in the morning. She is a sporadic writer and in her years in the development sector, has become a better listener than she was. She currently leads Save The Children India and continues to believe that we will have a world where children and women will not be infantilised, and where participation and protection are not seen as conflicting rights. Just when your schedule, money, and energy have been stretched to the ultimate max - you accept another meeting request thinking you can squeeze it in. Then five minutes later, reality sinks in and you're mad at yourself and maybe even the meeting requester all because YOU said yes. Dr. Dawn teaches us (me included!) how to say YES to saying NO. She starts by breaking down our id, ego, and superego and even explains how Beyonce likely got it wrong in her song. Dr. Dawn also provides us with some concrete examples for how to protect our "TMS" - Time, Money, and Sanity, and schools us as to what happens when we don't.

Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Now that we know we're not going to hell and that our salvation is secure, we are in a position where God can begin to mature us so we can manifest more of Heaven on earth.....God wanting us to grow up isn't control, legalism, or religion; it is Kingdom. Now, if you never get wiser, God will not be disappointed or angry with you, and you won't lose your salvation, but you'll continue to have to deal with the consequences of the decisions you make...wisdom is the principal thing! How you respond to wisdom speaks of whether you're still a spiritual child, adolescent, or you're beginning to get mature. This will really help anyone who's been under grace-based teaching for a while but wants to know where to go next. Grace is the foundation that allows us to understand everything else! Enjoy!
