John 5:1-9 NIVSome time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. The day on which this took place was a Sabbath.
We will remember the person who introduced us to Jesus for the rest of our lives. Their faith helps lead us into His presence, where our own is watered, nurtured, and strengthened until it becomes something we can truly call our own. It's a beautiful process to behold. If we aren't intentional though we can remain in a season that was only meant to be temporary. In this message, we explore the Father's heart for our spiritual maturity and what it looks like to seek Him personally and develop a faith that is truly our own.

We're more immersed than we think. Sports. Politics. Our careers. Relationships. But beneath all of it, the Bible reveals we're all born immersed into something deeper that has influenced each of our directions and desires—darkness. But here's the good news: God didn't send His Son to condemn you. He sent Him to rescue you.
Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother's womb to be born!”
There is one question that has echoed through history, and it's still being asked today. “Who do you say I am?” This Easter at Victory, we're stepping into one of the most personal and powerful moments in Scripture.
Most people picture Jesus holding a lamb, wearing a peaceful smile. But in John 2, He walks into the Temple, makes a whip, and starts flipping tables. Same Jesus. Different moment. In this sermon, we unpack the side of Jesus we rarely talk about—righteous anger. He wasn't angry without reason.
John 1:1-5 NIVIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
“What's amazing about the book of John is that it's shallow enough for children to play but deep enough for elephants to swim.”-Dr. Gary Burge
1 John 1:1 NIVThat which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.
Community is hardwired into our DNA because our God is, at His very core, relational. In fact, God cares so deeply about community that after creating the heavens, the earth, and everything in them—and calling it all good—He pauses and declares, for the first time, that something is not good: being alone. But if we're honest, being in community isn't always easy. So why does the bible continue to point us to doing life with others at church and home?
1 Peter 2:9-10 NIVBut you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

When sin entered the Garden of Eden, we lost the perfect peace and security that we can find only in God's presence. Unholiness cannot dwell with holiness. So, because of the curse, we lost unity with God. Our connection was severed, and we could no longer see Him face-to-face.
How and why did human's develop self-awareness of what we know and don't know? How does it develop in relation to how we evaluate what other people know? What are the risks of cognitive bias tainting our ability to learn and self correct? In this episode, we have the interesting question of our own self-awareness, or Meta-cognition, to understand. For centuries philosophers have called on us to “know thyself”, but only now with the tools of modern neuroscience have we been able to scientifically quantify the way we consciously track our behaviour, performance, thoughts and knowledge. So today we'll be getting into why this is important for learning and error correction; we're going to talk about meta-cognition's use for “mind reading” I.e. tracking our confidence in others in their own knowledge, both friends and foes, fundamental for the evolution of our collaborative groups; the implications of cognitive bias blind spots in metacognition for updating our collective beliefs over time; also whether metacognition is proportionally correlated to intelligence; and how technology and AI has and will influence the future of our self-awareness, and whether it's convenient to try programming AI to be metacognitive too, or if that would invite disaster. For these matters there can be no better guest than University College London Cognitive neuroscience Professor, Stephen Fleming. He's the author of the 2021 book “Know Thyself, the science of self awareness”, and founder of the Meta Cognition Group at UCL, and the group leader of the Max Plank, UCL Centre for Computational Neuroscience.
