Meet Rowan Jetté Knox, the award-winning Canadian writer and human rights advocate who embodies the power of embracing change and living authentically. Rowan courageously shares his family's journey towards acceptance of both his middle child and wife's transgender identity in his bestselling memoir "Love Lives Here". This journey, marked by vulnerability and unconditional love, has normalized the existence of LGBTQ2S+ families and sparked international change. Rowan's advocacy extends beyond his personal narrative, confronting the stigma of mental illness and championing the rights of transgender youth. His work has earned him recognition such as the Order of Ottawa. Rowan's story is a testament to the transformative power of embracing truth and living authentically. He first started questioning his own gender while in therapy for deep trauma. Despite the challenges, Rowan has learned valuable lessons about self-worth, the importance of community, and the intentional risks necessary for growth. He reminds us that you don't have to transition to be Trans and encourages those questioning their gender to seek out Trans voices. Rowan's journey, including his own transition and non-monogamous relationships, is a powerful example of what it means to live a life true to oneself. EPISODE TAKEAWAYS Rowan's Journey: In 2014 Rowan would have described his family as a Mom, Dad and three sons. Shortly thereafter their middle child came out as a Transgender girl (later, non-binary), and then less than two years after Rowan's spouse came out as a Transgender woman. Consciousness of Truth: “We are more subconsciously aware of our truths than we think we are.” When Rowan's middle child came out he was, at the time, a well-known “mommy blogger” and the post sharing the coming out story of his child went completely viral. There was a little hate but also a massive out pouring of love. Expanding Love: Rowan's family adopted their middle child's best friend at the age of 15 and beautifully extended their circle of love. It was much easier for Rowan to give love and support to his Trans family members than it was to give it to himself. Self-Worth: When the world constantly teaches you that you are NOT worthy of love, it's nearly impossible to find yourself worthy. Rowan and his wife Zoè are in a Polycule relationship that began in 2022 and now they all live together, very happily, in Toronto. Important Reminders: Rowan wants to remind everyone that you do NOT have to transition to be Trans. If you're questioning your gender start following some trans folks on social media listen to what they have to say and learn from the source. Learn more about your ad choices. This week's episode is the first re-run of the program's history. This one was originally published back in October of 2022 and is one of the most popular of the 40 or so editions now out in the feed. Elle will be back next week with a fresh one. . Should I transition? This is a question a lot of trans people ask themselves at one time or another. The answer might seem obvious -- and it is for some people -- but it often is a little more complex. Elle talks about the process she went through to make sense of this choice. She reflects on support she received (like Dara Hoffman Fox's book on Gender Identity exploration) along the way, as well as the spirituality of the transgender experience. Other resources important during this time included: Love Lives Here by Amanda Jette Knox and Dazzling Darkness by Rachel Mann. . Elle discusses her relationship to marriage, and her relationship to her wife of nearly 20 years. In this episode, she explores what it was like before, during, and after transition, including the challenging process of coming out to her partner. I welcomed my first guest Amanda Jetté Knox onto the show three years ago to discuss their book Love Lives Here. Today they join me to discuss the alarming rise in transphobic hate and why 2022 was the first year they feared for their life doing their job as an advocate for the 2SLGBTQI+ community. Lindsay Sealey, author of Made for More is back to discuss Gen Z women and girls and this week we take a look at the relentless pursuit of MORE. More money, more cars, more clothes but is that really making us happy? Of course we all know the answer to that so how then can we help our girls find the more that really matters, more love, more fulfillment, more peace. As always Anne Brodie is in with entertainment and this week we take a look at Shantaram on Apple TV+ starring Charlie Hunnam who takes us on an extreme adventure in Bombay, Plan A on TVOD which is based on the true story of a cell of Jewish underground resistance members, Welcome to Wrexham on FX Disney + starring Canada's favourite son, Ryan Reynolds, and Big Bad Budget Battle with the Pioneer Woman. Mushrooms are enjoying a moment in the sun as we learn more and more about their health benefits. As part of our ongoing partnership with New Roots Herbal we take a closer look today with Dr. Colleen Hartwick who breaks down their benefits on everything from brain health to immune support. Despite increased international attention the number of people falling victim to human trafficking around the world continues to grow and Canada is no exception. Alexandra Stevenson knows this all too well as a victim of sex trafficking. She joins me to share what we need to know to prevent this from happening to more young women and girls. Finally, homelessness is on the rise across Canda due to a variety of factors but the bottom line is that too many people will be cold, unsheltered, and hungry this winter. Our response needs to be swift. Dr. Karen Shin from St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto joins me to discuss. If you've been dreaming about quitting your 9 to 5 to start you own fashion brand but feeling hopelessly frustrated that your dream may never become a reality - then listen up. I'm thrilled to be chatting with a good friend of mine, Amanda Ergen-Jennings, Designer CEO of Love Lives Here Bridal.Amanda and I met over a decade ago when we were both grinding our way up the corporate ladder at The Bon-Ton Store Group. We were learning the ropes in product development and finding our footing but quickly bonded over our mutual dreams of entrepreneurship. But as I put my dream on the back burner until “later” and spent my evenings and weekends hanging out with my friends and generally avoiding too much responsibility (as 22 year olds do), Amanda was moving forward with making her dream come true. She started her first brand 15 years ago as side hustle and worked day and night to quit her corporate design job and make it a full time reality. Today, Amanda Ergen-Jennings is the Designer & Owner of Love Lives Here, a bridal gown design and production studio based in Milwaukee, WI.She has combined her life-long passion for creating garments from scratch and 15 years of corporate product development and technical design experience with her genuine love for her hometown to build a bridal brand focused on bringing a high-quality, artisan-focused approach to local manufacturing. Join Amanda and I as we discuss her journey - from design school to quitting her corporate design role to now owner of her very own bridal gown brand. You'll also hear tons of entrepreneurial advice, her take on balancing work life and family life, and a few words of wisdom and motivation specifically for new Designer CEOs.

For thousands of years, many different traditions have used a forty-day period as a time that allows for transformation, healing, renewal, regeneration, and rebirth. Through purging the old, we are able to receive a new set of instructions and preparation for a new phase in life. Imagine giving yourself 40 days to experience the healing and regenerative force of love in your daily life. A time to consciously focus on your relationships with yourself, others, Earth, and the Sacred in all Life. Love Lives Here: 40 Days of Reconnection is an invitation to come together as a growing community to restore our connection with the heart of what matters and serve the greater whole.
