Hello guys! It's been a while, these past two months have been really busy, but I never stopped working on music, and I'm excited to share it with you. On March 14th, I went to Denver to see Eric Prydz on his Pryda 20 tour. As a huge fan of his music since 2010, this was my first time seeing him live. And I have to say, it was incredible. Even after all these years, his music still sounds fresh, and the crowd was absolutely insane. That night left me so inspired that I decided to put together this mix. Today, I've selected 20 tracks, mostly in that authentic progressive house style. In this episode, you'll hear music from Pryda, Cristoph, and Harry Diamond, plus a few gems from labels I follow, like YOMO and Anjuna. There's also plenty of unreleased stuff from my friends Erik Lucas, Connor Martin, and Austin Pettit, as well as my own latest releases, upcoming tracks, and some exclusives. A special shout-out to artists like Luke Tolosan, whose new track Always just dropped on Early Origin, and the super-talented Krobe. Enjoy the mix! 01. Emmanuel Dip - Dannsen [YOMO Records] 02. Hello guys! Winter is in full swing, and I hope you're all embracing the season with open arms. For this episode, I've curated a selection of fresh releases alongside some timeless classics in the realm of progressive house. Let me share a bit about the playlist with you. The mix begins with a track that holds a special place in my heart, even though I've never played it before. Hugo Ibarra – Lost in You was released back in 2014 on the legendary label Balkan Connection, a name I deeply admire. That was a pivotal time in my life when I was falling in love with house music but had yet to start producing my own. This track was my gateway to discovering Balkan Connection, and today, it's a dream come true to release my music on this label. I'm thrilled to announce that my next release is scheduled for next month! Another highlight is Ostrov Shkota, a track that will drop later this month on 3rd Avenue, a label I've long aspired to join. This track, made in collaboration with my good friend Joono, was inspired by a small island located just a 40-minute drive from my hometown. It's a personal and meaningful piece that I'm incredibly excited to share. As a special touch, the closing section of this mix is a mini-mix featuring three very special tracks. Storm is an absolute classic that I first discovered in 2007 on Eric Prydz's Essential Mix. When Strings Cry is one of the earliest tracks by ZEHV, which he graciously gave out early on. The mix concludes with a remix of a track that holds deep meaning for me, Lisa. This incredible reinterpretation was crafted by my good friend Connor Martin, and I'm absolutely in awe of what he's done with it. Throughout this mix, you'll also find plenty of unreleased gems from my talented friends and myself. I hope this blend of new and nostalgic sounds resonates with you. Stay warm, enjoy the music, and I'll see you next month! 01. Hugo Ibara - Lost in You [Balkan Connection] 02. Basil O'Glue & Nomas - Calantha (Fuenka Remix) [Settlement] 03. Floge - Disbatch (Evgenii Rymd Remix) 04. Hully Che - Dynamic Flight [Future Avenue] 05. Ev Rymd & Chernov - Kaleidoscope 06. Erik Lucas - ID 07. Connor Martin - Zlaz 08. Pryda - Hiidden [PRYDA] 09. This episode of Across The Margin: The Podcast features an interview with Director Connor Martin and Executive Producer Tony Kriz, part of the team behind the eye-opening new documentary Sentenced. Each year millions of kids are sentenced to a future they don't deserve because of their inability to read, and Sentenced shines a bright light on this devastating problem. The motivation behind the film is simple — over 43 million Americans can't read well enough to get a job and support a family. The film posits there are actually no illiterate children, just children who haven't learned to read yet. Sentenced exposes this tragic reality and presents a solution for overcoming failing systems and preventing kids from disappearing into society's margins. Filmed from the point of view of ethnically diverse adults and children who have never learned to read, Sentenced is a powerful yet tender tale of how literacy can free children from the cycles of generational poverty. In this episode host Michael Shields, Connor Martin, and Tony Kriz discuss the staggering number of adults in the United States who score low in literacy while considering the small window of time that children are afforded the opportunity to learn how to read. They discuss the role of a parent or adult in learning to read and write, how experiencing trauma early in life affects a child's ability to process information, how illiteracy is passed down through generations in families, and so much more. The Loco - Early Origin Continuous Mix 01 The Loco - Garth Slough 02 The Loco - Otis 03 The Loco - Osx000 04 The Loco - Origin 05 The Loco - Radiance 2022 06 The Loco - Afterglow (The French Mix) 07 The Loco - Universal Solution 08 The Loco - Solution 09 The Loco - Lesson Two 10 The Loco - White Rock I'm thrilled to share my new album, titled "Early Origin" after my record label. This album has 10 songs that were created between 2016 and 2022. 01. Garth Slough (2020). This song was created in 2020 as a last-minute nighttime draft. The concept began with a bass sample, which was then layered with a soft pad and a lead. It just took me 3 hours to complete. The title "Garth Slough" was selected at random. There is a lake in the US is called Garth Slough. 02. Otis (2022). Was the latest track by that moment. Named in honor of my close friend OtIS. In order to make this track sound deeper and more enigmatic, I tried to depart from my usual style. 03. Osx000 (2022). This song was created immediately after "Otis." When OtIS performed Gobber by Cirez D on one of his livestreams, I thought it would be fun to experiment with the same preset to create my own vision. 04. Origin (2022). "Origin" was created at the end of 2022 to harken back to the progressive house of the 2007–2010 period. Being a huge fan of this genre gave me the inspiration to start writing my own music in 2015. 05. Radiance (2018-2022). The original version of this song was published on SkyTop in 2019. This track was one of my best creations at the time, and I really love it. 06. Afterglow (The French Mix) (2020). There are several variations of this song. The original mix was created at the beginning of 2020. The same year, in May, Fehrplay held a remix competition. I made some new friends during the competition who continue to encourage and help me today. One of them is Gøtborg. He offered to add his own spin to the first "Afterglow." This is the outcome. I really like what he did, the arrangement and lead vocals gave "Afterglow" the vibe it needed. 07. Universal Solution (2022). I want to thank my friend Connor Martin. This song came out following Connor Martin's first two releases from "Early Origin." The mood and energy of Connor's releases served as my inspiration for Universal Solution. Sadly, the publicly available mix is a draft in progress. The original project file was lost, but the track still sounds good and playable for live shows. 08. Solution (2016-2022). "Solution" was initially published in 2017. The track was created a few days before the new year of 2017 while working the night shift. It took around two hours to complete the track. Throughout these years, I frequently went back to the project to add fresh touches. Here is the end outcome by 2022. 09. Lesson Two (2019-2020). This song was created in 2019. I attempted to sign it a few times, but record labels never responded. I'm ecstatic to share "Lesson Two" with you at this time because it has been waiting to emerge. 10. White Rock (2019). It was initially written while I was traveling through China. This song was originally intended to be included in the release "Full Control", but its inclusion was later decided. The mountain in Cremona, Kachi Kalyion, inspired the name of the course because of its stunning white color. Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/6V71ALgDJ4q6x012pVZuVS?si=FKB7nYEISD6WoSxqSuRYlA

Host Ben Rice travels to West Sacramento to discuss Sacramento Beer Week 2022 (April 22 through May 1) with the president of the Sacramento Area Brewer's Guild/co-owner of Jackrabbit Brewing Erle Mankin. We discuss the kickoff Sac Mac & Beer Festival taking place on April 23 (go to www.sacramentobeerweek.com for tickets - also, I might have access to some free tickets - follow me @barleyandmepod for details!), Sacramento Beer Week's fraught history, Jackrabbit's recent 9th anniversary celebration, and mathematics. PLUS! Ben runs TOO MANY RAD COMEDY SHOWS ON THE LEAD-UP TO BEER WEEK (seriously, scroll down for info), Erle tells Ben the difference between kolsch and pilsner, and thinly-veiled "hilarous" jabs are taken between host and guest, in this absolute romp/breeze of an episode. Speaking of Breez, did you know original Barley & Me theme song composer Breez recently worked with (hed) p.e. on their latest record? Check out "F*** What You Say" which he does the entirety of the production and backing track for.Anyway, comedy shows leading up to/kicking off Sacramento Beer Week, as brought to you by Barley & Me host Ben Rice, include:Sunday, April 17, 7pm, at SacYard Community Taphouse: New York comedy legend Eddie Pepitone visits Sacramento for the first time he can remember, with pal JT Habersaat, the "punk rock comic" who recently had the #1 comedy album on iTunes, plus locals DNA & Becky Lynn. Tickets are $20 in advance on Eventbrite or $25 at the door. You seriously do not want to miss it.But if you have to miss it, you can almost immediately correct your mistake on Wednesday, April 20 (4/20 blaze it) at Crooked Lane Brewing for their 8pm show starring Anthony K, who is back by popular demand after wrecking shop opening for Kiry Shabazz (Comedy Central) in 2019. Tickets are $10 at www.crookedlanebrewing.com. Also appearing: Taylor Evans and Serena Gamboa, AKA The Spicy Latina. But if you have to miss THAT too, come down to Vacaville the very next day, Thursday, April 21, at 7pm, for the return of Free Live Stand-Up, starring Dennis Gaxiola, who will be working out material for his SECOND Dry Bar Comedy Special, for FREE. Also appearing: me (sorry) and Becky Lynn!Gone to all/none/2 or 3 of these? Well, it's time to get Sacramento Beer Week 2022 going! So Friday, April 22, at 7pm, come out to Fort Rock Brewing in Rancho Cordova for their monthly free comedy show (hosted by yours truly) starring Saul Trujillo (a regular at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, whose debut album Drugstore Debutante is available now), plus Scott Powers and special guests Emily Pedersen, Connor Martin, and Celeste Koegl. That's all too much to process. So here is even more stuff!Find out more about Sacramento Beer Week 2022 at www.sacramentobeerweek.com or follow @sacramentobeerweek on IGCheck out the Sacramento Area Brewer's Guild @sacramentoareabrewersguild (copy and paste this for ease)Or just head down to Jackrabbit Brewing in West Sacramento, visit www.jackrabbitbrewing.com, or follow @jackrabbitbrewing which is not to be confused with @jackrabbit_brewing_co in Essex, England (if you've read this far into the notes, hopefully you've also listened to the episode for this "cool" reference) to get more info on their beers, their events (including Sacramento Beer Week 2022 events like their second Friday concert), and more!Barley & Me can be found across social media @barleyandmepod. Email questions/comments/concerns/guest ideas/brewery ideas to barleyandmepodcast@gmail.com or barleyandmepod@gmail.comBen is also posting #Chugs4Charity videos semi-regularly on Instagram (@barleyandmepod), to help raise funds for various local and national charities with goals of making our world a better place. The COVID-19 pandemic has obviously caused a lot of issues with the world. In the new film SHELTER IN PLACE (2021), it becomes the focal point of why our characters happen to be where they are. The stress of the unknown, the isolation, and even the fear of possibly dying from something that is unseen is definitely one scary thing. When newly married couple Sara (Tatjana Marjanovic) and John (Brendan Hines) head off to their honeymoon in Los Angeles, a COVID outbreak forces them to shelter in place at their hotel. With only a maid and the desk manager working, Sara and John begin to become stir crazy. The days carry on slowly and there is only so much the couple can do for fun. While their patience with each other grows, the couple discovers that there may be a disturbing aspect with their residence that they hadn't seen when they checked in. The film is co-directed and co-written by Chris Beyrooty and Connor Martin. Besides our two leads, the film also stars Ola Kaminska and Kevin Daniels as the hotel help in very pivotal roles. Dark Discussions takes a look at this indy horror film and gives their thoughts.
