In This Episode: In the heart of innovation, Silicon Valley faces an unprecedented challenge – a Trash Crisis escalating at an alarming rate. Overflowing landfills are nearing their brim, with over 20 million tons of waste generated annually, pushing facilities to over 85% of their capacity. As the fight against waste continues, the region grapples with a single-use plastic epidemic, producing a staggering 1.5 million tons of these environmental hazards each year. But hope is not lost. Together, we can turn the tide. With a current recycling rate of just 40%, there's immense room for improvement and innovation. It's time for change, Silicon Valley. Let's rethink, reduce, and recycle for a sustainable future. Waste Management Problem of Silicon Valley: Overflowing Landfills: Landfills in the region are at over 85% capacity. Over 20 million tons of waste is generated every year Single-Use Plastic Crisis: Silicon Valley produces approximately 1.5 million tons of single-use plastics yearly Inefficient Recycling Rates: The recycling rate in Silicon Valley is a mere 40% "I serve the environment; that is who we serve." Justin Imamura About Justin Imamura: From performing at Coachella to launching “The Trash Punx,” Justin Imamura, this punk rock Eagle Scout has wildlife. Believe it or not, he started his working career as a costumed character in a local theme park. You'll have to ask him personally what characters he performed as! Drumming is also one of his passions, and he continues performing across the Country when he's not running The Trash Punx. He serves as a Cubmaster for a local Cub Scout Pack during his time off. In 2017, he started his non-profit, “The Trash Punx,” which goes around the Bay Area to educate kids and adults on how to recycle correctly, hosts trash cleanup events, and has expanded to Kenya as of 2023 to clean a community impacted by trash. Imamura is an open book that loves connecting, learning, listening, and empowering others to do great things for the community and environment! "I am super passionate about the work that I do because I love our environment." Justin Imamura Show Notes: Delve into the inspiring story of Trash Punx, an organization with a mission to clean up our environment, one piece of trash at a time Connecting with Like-Minded Organizations: The journey of Trash Punx started with research and collaboration with organizations such as South Bay and Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful A Weekend Cleanup Project: Trash Punx' humble beginnings involved organizing monthly weekend cleanup events in under-resourced communities in San Jose Growth Over Six Years: What began as a small idea for a weekend cleanup has significantly expanded in just six years, making a substantial impact on environmental conservation Global Expansion: Trash Punx recently expanded its reach to Iwasanero, Kenya, marking the launch of their global program Local Solutions for Local Problems: In Kenya, they realized that the community needed education on properly using the trash cans. This led to the creation of a new trash can stencil with clear instructions Educating the Community: Trash Punx's mission extends to educating the community about proper recycling and waste management practices. They want to empower people to take action Involving Young Conservationists: Nima, a young volunteer from San Jose, made a significant impact by raising funds for Trash Punx by selling duck eggs. His contribution made a substantial difference in Kenya Multiple Programs for Environmental Conservation: Trash Punx runs several programs, including trash cleanup events, electronic waste recycling drives, and educational presentations to promote proper recycling Volunteers Are the Heart of Trash Punx: Volunteers are the backbone of Trash Punx. Everyone involved, including board members, is a volunteer. Overcoming Language Barriers: During their Kenya expansion, Trash Punx encountered a unique challenge related to language barriers Trash Punx: Not a Band, But a Movement: Despite the name “Trash Punx,” Trash Punx is not a musical band. The name reflects the organization's energetic, DIY, and unconventional approach to solving environmental issues “I felt called to be that voice to Mother Earth.” Justin Imamura Links Mentioned: Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful Sabore's Well Connect with 'The Trash Punx': If you're interested in taking action for a cleaner world and being part of the change, contact ‘Justin Imamura': Connect on Facebook Connect on Instagram Connect on LinkedIn Connect on Youtube Email: info@thetrashpunx.org Call/Text: +1-408-800-1054 bsite: The Trash Punx Donate to The Trash Punx

Ryan Raddatz, or perhaps more fondly known by his Philmont friends as "Raddish,” joins the show today to discuss Rayado, Philmont music, inclusive scouting, and more.Ryan praises the musicianship and skill of todays staff, recalling how campfire dynamics of the 90s were more spontaneous and on the fly - a collaboration of new and refired musicians learning from one another. Ryan comments on how the grind of putting on a show every night, and being fueled by an audiences reaction - prepared him for his career in music and as an actor. We chat about his career as a TV Writer, and how being in the writers room - for Ryan - is the closest thing to a backcountry camp vibe. It's a bunch of talented people, with a common goal, working together. For him success is measured by "Making something you're proud of with people you like.” So many gems in this interview - from Ryan's experience playing live with the Indigo Girls to the TV drama he wrote highlighting the true story of The Lost Legend of the Girl Rangers and lastly - his efforts to help start an all inclusive Cub Scout Pack in North Hollywood.Today Ryan is an accomplished TV Writer, known for his work with PBS show WordGirl, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Network pilots for ABC, FOX, CBS, NBC, Disney XD, and Nickelodeon. For the weeks we did not post a new podcast, check out our blog focused on multi-family investing at www.creipartners.com/blog. You will find our podcast page and information on my company, CREI Partners. For some background on me, I was born and raised out of Austin, TX. In 2003, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed with 1st Tank Battalion in 29 Palms, California and then transferred to the 1st Marine Air Wing in Okinawa, Japan. I was fortunate to earn my Undergraduate and majority of my master’s degree while in the Marine Corps. I didn’t have much of a life after work! My passion for real estate began in High School, and I was very eager to transition to a Commercial Real Estate company. I participated in a military recruiting event where private companies were hiring former military. I went to this particular recruiting event due to CBRE being an employer. I remember going into the interview and telling the Managing Director she can stop all other interviews as I was her guy. I received an offer to start with CBRE in June 2007. I have been part of the CBRE team for the past 13 years managing commercial real estate properties. I am currently an Associate Director in Austin overseeing approximately 2 million square feet of office and retail space. I am fortunate to enjoy what I do with CBRE and my clients taking care of their real estate assets, while pursuing my side passion of owning and growing investor wealth through multi-family investments. I control the investment life cycle and investor relations as the Lead Sponsor and General Partner. I have three kids ages 8, 7, and 5. I have been married to my amazing wife, Jennifer, for nearly 11 years. I am a Cubmaster for a Cub Scout Pack in Spicewood, TX and stay active in the Rotary Club of Austin. I started this podcast to help others but also to learn alongside each of you. Real Estate is my passion and we will have a lot of great discussions and aha moments. Look forward to having you join us on our next episode of the Untold Stories of Real Estate Investing. Hope everyone stays safe and well!

A Den Chief is a youth position in a Troop that is helping the Den Leader in a Cub Scout Pack. Often this position is dismissed as unimportant and trivial. However, it’s one of the most important in the life of a Scout Troop and a Cub Scout Den. ScouterStan explores this little know youth position and how important it is. The new Den Chief training is outlined in 3 modules; 1. The Den Chief’s role and understanding Cub Scouts 2. The Den Meeting 3. How to lead activities The Den Leader and the Den Chief Scout should attend this training together. Techanaly the Den Chief can be of any rank, but only First Class Scout or higher can count their service for rank advancement. Scoutmasters should only select responsible scouts for this position. As the Den Leader doesn’t need an older Cub Scout… They need a real youth leader. Scoutmasters should also consider the many commitments on this youth leader. Troop meetings ever week, Den meeting 3 times a month and Pack meeting or Pack activity once a month. Pluss Troop camping and OA commitments and more… A Den Chief is a natural recruiter for your Troop. Encourage the Den Chief to work in the older Den’s and have them cross over into the Troop. Then the former Den Chief can become a Troop Guide to the first year patrol.
